MLB Network | New York Mets are paying for the shuffle – Mark DeRosa breaks down Juan Soto disaster
I know. It’s It’s shocking to me, too. All right. Give us a prescription for what ails Juan Sto. Everyone relax. Okay. This is a classic case of not knowing to how to act with $765 million. Who does? Okay. I kind of have written a few things down that I’d like to First thing I would do, I mean, we’re black carding a jet. I’m buying GFream 650. Okay. And all the boys are getting on. We’re going somewhere. No. Yeah. I think he needs a swag back at the end of the day. Let let’s get into it because I’ve asked a lot of people, played a lot of golf with a lot of Hall of Famers, and when they talk about who the best hitter in the game is, I always say it’s Aaron Judge, right? And I’ve had a lot of guys say, “Game on the line, give me Juan Sodto in the box. 26 years old, absolutely dominant.” And pause this. The thing I want to say about Juan, when you go on his baseball reference page, this dude posts, it’s north of 150 starts every time and the numbers are ridiculous. I almost think at times his control of the strike zone works against him. I remember Chipper Jones always used to say to me, when you’re struggling, you want to turn your 0 for fours into 0 for threes with a walk. But I almost think it’s counterproductive for Juan at times. I’d almost like to see him get a little bit more aggressive. He’s almost too passive kind of searching for what’s working for him. Bring up the numbers to make everyone at City Field feel okay. And I know you can dive in on the analytics and you can find something to pull out the positive. I really do. But his actual versus expected metrics, he’s hitting .224. He’s over for his last 16. that Yankee series got in his dome. He should be hitting 294 according to the numbers. His slug 393, his expected 569. I mean, look at the the ranks. First, third, second. So, his expected numbers would tell you he’s not playing as bad. I would disagree though cuz he’s lost the edge or he doesn’t want to give us that edge yet until he feels sexy. Fernando Tatis talks about this. He doesn’t give you that coming around third on the home runs every time until he’s feeling it. But let’s get back into the tape right here because as myself and Jacob, he is in his dome about going over to City Field. We watched this with Francisco Lindor. He tried to be something he wasn’t and then he finally got comfortable in his own skin. Said, “You know what? I’m just going to be me.” Look at the balance point when he’s behind the baseball. So, pause this. bring up the next board. The whole idea that oh, he doesn’t have Judge hitting behind him anymore. He’s seeing more pitches in the zone this year than he did last year. Okay. So, that narrative needs to go away. I know psychologically looking on deck and seeing Aaron Judge instead of Pete Alonzo, what maybe a smidge difference. I got it. But what I’m saying is you would think last year he was just getting attacked. That should be 56.5 to 49.1. That is not the case. So, he’s getting balls in the zone. His zone swing percentage is a career low. He’s just second lowest in the game. Nate’s just got in my ear. Second lowest zone swing percentage in Major League Baseball right now. So, he’s indecisive at the dish. He’s searching, right? Hot. Change me to the next one. Look at his splits. Look at him with bases empty, relaxed numbers on base plus slug is a 929 OPS. Everyone would sign up for that. Yeah, N is telling me in my ear those are his numbers. All right, that’s what he does. Look at him with runners on and runners in scoring position. Just screaming. He’s putting so much pressure on himself to win. You know, he doesn’t have to live up to anything. He’s 26 years old. He’s one of the best hitters in the game. Stevie Cohen backed up the truck. And you know what? There’s about eight other teams that wanted to back up the truck for him. Wait, he doesn’t have to live up to anything? I don’t think he feels that. Do you? I wouldn’t. I Well, yeah, you’re showing up as a franchise player. It I just think when I watch him, I I watch a guy who’s trying to kind of act what he thinks the world wants him to be instead of just go. You got paid because you’re a great hitter. I don’t think anyone’s expecting go glove defense, stealing bags. I am expecting some hustle, but I think that’ll come when he starts swinging the back. Good. Let’s get back into the tape. Here he is. Big spot roll over. That’s not That’s not what he’s about in that situation. So, with runners in scoring position, he’s putting a ton of pressure on himself. Not letting the ball get deep. I know his pull numbers were up in Yankee Stadium, but what I would like to see is him get back to up the middle the other way. But what I want to see and the fans want to see, can I have this? I don’t care if you’re struggling. Start to believe again. Give me the sodto shuffle. The people are waiting. And I’ll take you back to last postseason. You want to talk about dominance? Look at him looking at Hunter Gad. He knows he’s going deep and he takes some bad swings where he gets rotational right here. Look at that. He gets around that baseball. That’s not a great swing. But you know what? He’s feeling himself right here. He knows he’s locked. He’s late and fouling that off. He goes, “All right, make one mistake.” Rolled over another one. That could have been easily a ground ball of Josh Naylor out of the inning. And now he goes into battle mode. He gets a high heater and he destroys it. So I would say to Juan, the fans want the shuffle. They’re paying for the shuffle. You got to give it to them. You almost got to fake it till you make it right now. Start to believe in yourself. Your teammates need you. So I I really think this is a classic case of a guy that is dealing with dealing with a lot. He went over to Yankee Stadium. He didn’t know how he was going to be received there. He gets a ton of ton of booze, but there was a ton of Mets fans there. It’s part of it. He’s an entertainer. I know I didn’t think that way when I played. certainly didn’t have to live up to Wan Sodto, but he needs to just let it go, man. Prescription swag. Yeah, prescription swag. He’s definitely He’s definitely paying out of network. He’s not worrying about the copay. Great stuff, Dior. Really eye popping numbers there. Yeah, excuse me. Wan would like to be on this list. Time now for the hitter power rankings presented by Arman Hammer and OxyClean. Aaron Judge at the top. Sure. Cho Choi Otani and his teammate Freddy Freeman. You betcha. Uh Jose Ramirez, Rafie Desing out the top five. Kyle Schwarber, one of our favorites. Uh Seya Suzuki rounding out the top 10. And don’t forget, you got the big dumper. Cal Raleigh at lucky number seven. Hey, Major League Baseball making history. [Music] [Music] [Music] Who wants some Draven? [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Sorry. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Overload. [Music] [Music] Well, that was satisfying. Time to introduce myself. No power in this world can stop me. [Music] My need is ready. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music]

He hates being a met
He’s not 26
I don’t know why people think this guy is good??? His career average is 281. At this time the greatest had over 310 average.
Baseball teams will learn from this. They are not the NFL, they don't need to pay the next man up. They can just use Shohei as the measuring stick. Soto was only half as good as Shohei, so the Mets should had offered only half of Shohei's salary. That was his market value. They way over paid and screwed themselves.
Soto is the smartest (and richest) man in baseball and it is a reflection of what baseball has come to. He know that he was hired to do one thing…hit the ball hard (preferably out of the park). He's not going to do anything on defense nor on the base paths (i.e., go 100% and risk injury) to endanger that one thing he was hired to do.
He's not the first guy to have his best year by far in his contract year and then get paid off it at the top of the market. Mets getting Padres Soto. Not Yankee Soto
The best deal the Yankees never made.
Mets fans in 14 years
"we paid him for 15 years, he still has a year left to prove himself guys, relax…" 😂😂😂
People are really overreacting to < half of one season. 😂
I'm sorry. Unbiased opinion but– as great as Soto was throughout his career he never and I mean NEVER had the type of aura he had last year with the Yankees. As great as he had been it's something about when he put on those pinstripes took his game to ANOTHER level.
He will probably be fine and have a great career as a Met eventually but– that Yankees Soto aka PEAK Soto ain't NEVER coming back….. ✌🏾✌🏾
Derosa always says Freddie is the guy he’d want up with then game on the line.
Soto is doing intentionally to see real faces of people and real friends
Lied about his age or stopped the PED's. Thoùght he could get by without juicing. Bat speed doesn't just drop like his in your prime. I would think with the mounting pressure he would be swinging even harder. Negate the contract
Hes on the mets though.
Lindor and beltran struggled first year with mets.
Juan Soto is too damn passive at the plate he's always looking to get walked. He gets pitches in the zone and doesn't swing 😤
Love the way all of these MLB analysts keep making excuses for Soto. This is why I don’t like the MLB network. Way too PC.
It's crazy when Ohtani signed his contract with the dodgers and everyone saying that he's overpayed. Meanwhile soto signed a higher contract and everyone's backing him up with those stats.
Juan Soto is by far the most overrated player in MLB history. This guy is a lifetime.280 hitter who has been put on a pedestal because he has a good eye. I give his agent max credit for how he was able to get almost a billion dollar contract for a player of this caliber. The guy is worth maybe 20 million a year for 5 years max.
Got the Bag 💰 now he's just lazy
Soto isn't mentally tough. The Mets should have done more due diligence.
he's the most shot out 26 year old ever….
Overrated over paid self centered greedy DH clown
他真是美國職棒最大的笑話
He's waiting for his steroid test.
I don't think people are even that focused on his numbers. I think people are more at odds because of his attitude and he seems to be alouf out there. I saw just about every game with the Yankees, and he never seemed out of it like he does with the Mets. He seemed to be having a blast out there and having a ton of fun in the field and in the dugout. Then we have these stories about how he would have rather resigned with the Yanks, but his family liked Cohen and his wife more so he signed there. That's some of the craziest shit I've heard in my life for someone who is signing the rest of his career away to one team. I know some people are dismissing that story but Michael Kay swears by his source and it kind of makes sense when you see how he treated the Subway Series this year. Being out in right I think made him remember how fun it was out there with the bleacher creatures and I think that really affected him which is why he's been in his head a bit and also why he cancelled his mic'd up night and left without answering media questions after. Either way he WILL get over it because he's a Met for life so he has no choice but to.
The problem is, for a one year rental, Yanks gave up Michael King and four other good prospects! Check out King’s last year’s stats. Elite starting pitcher at below value.
Doesn’t have to live up to anything? Yeah ok
These guys need to stop saying he is one of the best hitters in the game, just stop it seriously
This analysis is a croc of shit. Lol
