just about ready to roll. And on the hill, the lefty Chris Bubich having a pretty ridiculous season so far. Singy. Yeah, you see there with the sub two erra. Very dependable guy and he’s been pretty much lights out so far this season. So, you know, when a guy like this takes the mound boo, I’m expecting to watch him get into a rhythm quickly and just move through a ball game. Sometimes you can see some big strikeouts. Other times it’s hard to even know he’s there because the innings go so quickly. TJ Freel, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Just missed. right side hard hit. Sends it to first and a quick out number one. Here’s the lineup for the Reds. And it’s clear the most important job they have today is getting to the starting pitcher early and often. No doubt about that. That’s the best way to disrupt a game. But can they do it? Certainly something for us to pay attention to in this one, partner. And now Santiago Espol. Foul ball. One out. Base is empty. bounced up the middle with quick start here this evening. Two out top of the first. Batting third, the shortstop, Ellie Dea Cruz. And now Ellie de la Cruz singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. First pitch swinging. This guy’s usually not one to chase pitches off the plate, but he did there. We’ll see if he can tighten up his zone a little bit. Swing in a mix and it’s 0 and two. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. And they’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. The short stop takes the ball. Cut out and miss. Struck him out. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Nobody left for Cincinnati. And now the Royals will get their first shot in a scoreless ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here at Kaufman Stadium and pitching in this game, Nick Lollo Singy. He’s kind of a road warrior. Yeah, I definitely say so. You know, some guys shrink a little bit on the road. They’re so used to just, you know, having the comforts of being at home and having the fans behind them. But this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment. So when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes, you definitely like your chances away from your home ballpark. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Looks sizes this one up. One up, one down. And here now the lineup for the Royals. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now, Vinnie Pasquantino. And Boo, he’s their team leader in home runs. So, you know, the pitchers on that other side, man, they took a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting. You know, he’s got a lot of pop and it’s real pop. It’s not fluky at all. He can absolutely change the outlook of a game very quickly. So, watch out when he steps in. Bobby Whit Jr. stands in now. Looks at that one inside. Next offering is down low. Two and one. And that one fouled off. And the lefty kicks, delivers, just misses the mark outside the zone. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Hit on the ground to short. Dela Cruz to first and Whit is out. Batting third, the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. Two out, space is empty. Vinnie Pasquantino the next to hit. And first offering is fouled off. Two out. Space is empty. Swings through that one for strike two. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. Starting to go after it. Now we’ll look down to third. Nope. He held back. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and it’s two and two. That one called just inside, I think, and on the mound. He’s trying to get a little bit of an explanation. Doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it, though. But he clearly thought it clipped the corner. And that skips in the dirt. Fly ball to right. Benson corrals it and that is the third out of the inning. Scoreless after one back here in Kansas City. Second inning set to go. And now the DH Austin Hayes. Bubich back to work right through there for a strike out in front. Rip foul. Next pitch is outside. His understanding of the strike zone. Very impressive. That was a very close O2 fastball. I just don’t know how you take that. This one in the air. Pasquantino settles under it. makes the catch for the owl. That is it. The left fielder number two, Gavin Lux. And now it’s Gavin Lux. Royals. And first off is fouled off. And a swing and a miss there. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge. Just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. [Music] Sets him down on strikes. Called strike three. And a fast ball up in the zone. That exists. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Jose Trovinho. Trovinho. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Drilled out towards left center field. He makes the grab and that is that. So they go quietly there. We go to the bottom of inning number two. We’re tied nothing. No nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We head into the bottom of the second and now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. Perez. Yeah, that’s fouled off. For whatever reasons, this is a hitter that performs better in night games. We’ll see what he brings in this one. There’s a strike and ball one. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. Ripped to short, zips it to first and they get Perez for the out. Batting pick the right fielder Mark. Here’s Mark. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. There’s a swing and a miss. One and one. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Everything came together for him. I really like that swing, man. He didn’t just push it the other way through the infield. He drove it that way and it kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box. Got a pitch he liked and he got it done. Drew Waters stands in fought off foul. Cana at first one gone. Tap foul at the [Music] plate. Let’s go. 0 and two now to first. Maybe a two ball to Elliot. Second for one. Return throw to first. Got him. Double play. And that’ll do it. One hit in the inning but no one left. We play two full, no score. And we’re back. New inning getting started. And now the right fielder, Will Benson. Pubic in his fifth season. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a change up, a sinker, and occasionally uses a cutter. That’s off the mark. And the countdown now two and nothing. Late on that fast ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. and downstairs. Next offering in there for a strike and now three and two backto-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Got him swinging. Just a great slider right there. And I think the key for pitchers and what hitters don’t want to see is if a pitcher misses with that pitch that he misses off the edge of the strike zone rather than in the middle of the strike zone. And right there, excellent execution and it finished up in a perfect spot. Connor Joe the next to hit for the Reds. That one finds the zone. Strike one. strike. That’s excellent location on the fast ball right there early in this game. If he can do that all game, should be a good outing for him. Breaking ball inside now one and two. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That one missed. Swung on. Popped up on the infield. drops into the glove. Two up, two down. Bad enough. The second base, Matt Mlan. Now it’s the second baseman, Matt Mlan. That catches the corner. [Applause] That one is upstairs. This one high in the air to left center. And that is that. [Applause] Home half of the third coming up. No score. Back here at Koffman Stadium. Now it’s going to be Nick Loftton. Loftton. First pitch just misses. Ball one. No strike. [Music] fouled off. He was late. [Music] That one misses. And that’s ball two. Ball three. on its way to the corner and that will drop foul and a foul ball. He stays alive. [Music] That one misses. So a lead off walking the second baseman Michael Michael Massie steps in for the Royals. First pitch misses. Nobody out. Runner of [Applause] first. Swinging a foul out of play. There’s a one-1 line to left and it’s just fouled. That was close. The two strikes may see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Swing and a miss. That’s a strike out. Had him way out front of the slur. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that’s what leads to the strikeout. Next is the Royals catcher Freddy Fine. There’s the strike. Here we go. Popped in the air left field. Snags it on the run and there’s two away. Good pitch. He just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and able to stay close. Third base Mikel Garcia. So the lineup flips over and next up for the Royals, Mel Garcia fly to left his first time. just missed. [Applause] Ground ball to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, one left for Kansas City and we are still scoreless. Back here in Kansas City, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, TJ Fredel. Cincinnati and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Well, these Reds just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone. And those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. And there’s one down. Maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit. couldn’t quite barrel it up enough to really drive it. Down to third base, Santiago Espol. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And another ball. Let’s go. One down. Base is empty. That’s down and in. And that’s outside. It is ball four. And he’s on base. And that’s their first base runner of the game. Now batting the short Ellie Derew the next to hit for the Reds. He struck out swinging at his first at. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond. And this guy is at the top of the list. that’s in there. Yeah, we go beyond just uh, you know, fielding percentage and, you know, what it looks like, but the ability to have range and, you know, close holes that, you know, are normally there against an average defender. But this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness. That one down the line and foul ball. One thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics. But the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. The shorts stop takes the ball. The Reds yet to pick up a hit here. Next pitch is downstairs. [Music] And ball four, two aboard. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast ball. And now it’s Austin Hayes. He’s over for one. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Just missed. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. [Applause] Two on, one out. two strike. Foul ball. Another two-2 upcoming. Runners at first and second with one gone. Top half of inning number four. Struck him out looking. No, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in scoring position in two strikes. Just put the ball in place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. Here’s the left fielder, Gavin Lux. Struck out looking his first time. That one catches the zone. That’s strike one. Espol the lead runner at second. Dela Cruz on first with two down. [Applause] Man, I’m pretty impressed out there on the mound right now. I mean, these are tough spots where pitchers really got to bear down. Those last two pitches were well executed. That pitch just misses the inside corner. It’s a ball in two [Music] strikes in the air left field down the line. Brings it in and that’s the third out. Red strand a couple still no score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now here’s Bobby Jun. Bobby Witz Jr. on the ground to short. Dela Cruz slings it across and one gone in the fourth as they get the leadoff man. Oh, we talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. And here’s the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. And that one popped in the air left field. Lux gets under it, pulls it down, and he makes the catch. And a couple of quick outs. Now batting the designated hitter, Salvador. Salvador Perez will hit next. Grounded out his first time up. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Two down to here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Fredo under it. He’s got it. And that is out number three. Nothing doing for the offense that time. Onto the top of the fifth we go. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. And we’re back. Here’s the catcher. Jose Trovinho. Jose Trovinho. Come on. Bubich back to work. fouled off down the right side. Well, these Reds just haven’t produced as many competitive at bats as I’d like to see in this one. They really haven’t worked many deep counts or long at bats. And that’s fine if you’re having a lot of success, but at this point, I think it’s time to make an adjustment. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Reaching for it and brings it in. That’s a really nice playing back into the outfield for that catch. We all know those can be a little tricky, especially if the wind’s swirling around out there. Now it’s the right fielder Will Benson 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Ball one, no strikes. He’s controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. All tied up and we’re at the top of the fifth. And a swinging miss. I got one ball, one strike. [Applause] Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. [Music] [Applause] swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. [Music] Two outs. That’s inside. One ball, one strike. [Music] Nope. Outside. Come on, Royals. Let’s do this. Yeah, there’s the ball. Oh, they have had a hard time scoring in this one. The pitcher out there on the mound wants to keep attacking, make sure that they don’t get any confidence. That’s ball four. Tried another sinker but couldn’t find a zone. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Mlan stands in now and watches strike one. Joe the runner at first with two gone. Come on. Yeah. Big swing and a miss. That’s off the mark. going to count one and two [Music] outside with a breaking ball. [Music] Spoils that one and it remains two and two. fights it off. He’ll see another. Still two and two after the foul ball. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches and a pop off right side. Foul territory. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. Reds leave one and we’re still knotted at zero. Back here at Kaufman Stadium, we head to the bottom of the fifth and now the right fielder, Mark Kenna. Kenna, that breaking ball drops in for a strike. Well, these Royals just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. You really can’t pin it on one player because we’ve seen soft contact up and down this lineup. It’s time to make some adjustments because this approach is just off. The one-1 is fouled off. The cause for these struggles is a little different for each hitter. For some, it’s timing and for others it’s mechanics. Whatever it is, they need to start hitting the ball harder. That’s the third. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Well, it’s been a struggle on offense for them in this one. So, maybe that wakes them up a little bit. You know, an error can certainly give the opposing lineup something to get excited about. You got somebody on base. So, we’ll see if they can make something of it. Drew Waters getting ready to hit. 0 for one so far. And a sack bun here. Joe goes to second for one. And that’s all they’ll get. Now batting the left fielder, Nick Loftton. Nick Loftton steps in for the Royals. Worked a walk at his first trip to the plate. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. [Applause] swings and he breaks his bat on the run. Sends it over to first. Got him. What a play. That actually works out for the hitter. If it’s not a broken bat, it’s hit hard enough on a double play. But with the slower roller, defense does a nice job at least getting one out of it. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Here’s the second baseman, Michael Massie. Went down on strikes his first time through. That one’s in there. Strike one. Oh, one’s the count. check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike and two foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Good eye in that spot, man. Oh, man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Gets a piece and stays alive. Runner at second. Two down. Last half of inning number five. And now two and two. [Applause] And a sling a miss. And that will end the inning. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Back here in Kansas City. And now the center fielder TJ Fredel. Check swing. Now it appeal to third. and Joe McDonald as he went [Applause] around in the air on the infield. Garcia one down. The third base number four, Santiago Esp. So digging in, Santiago Espol. He’s 0 for one. Espol measures 5′ 10 in 30 years old now and he was born in the Dominican Republic. Top of the zone for a strike and it’s 0 and one activity in the bullpen. Taylor Clark up and loosening in the pen. Laorenzan warming up as [Music] well. Dives and he can’t hang on. The throw comes in too late and they come away without an out. No more having to worry about keeping the no hitter alive now. Kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that. You have to bury it otherwise it’s not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that time and ready to hit now for Cincinnati Ellie Dea Cruz. He is struck out and he is walked and a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point with a go ahead run at first and we’re the top half of the six. [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. [Applause] in the dirt and the runner stays where he is. The shorts stop takes the ball on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo man at first, one away. Chopped to the left side. Garcia throws to second for one over to first. Safe. Now back to Austin. Austin Hayes now at the plate. 0 for two in this one. This might be a steel situation, but that’s not your average catcher behind the dish. You have to be careful here. And a foul ball. Dela Cruz off of first with two away. And that one fouled off. Finish him. Next offering is down low. [Music] this one in the air center field. Waters makes the play and that is that. So, another inning in the books and the no hitter is no longer part of the story and we still have no score. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the catcher comes up to Freddy Fine. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. [Applause] That’s out to center field. Fredo calls it in and there’s one away. Now batting third baseman Mike. So the Royals batting order turns over. Digging in Mel Garcia. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the sixth. Pulls that one foul. [Music] swing and a miss and he got him to chase. Well, he went inside a couple of times and now outside. Hitter’s not exactly sure where to look for this next pitch. [Music] One down. Base is empty. Goes down looking. Bobby Whit Jr. steps in for the Royals. Has grounded out a couple of times. Junior, a short stop. takes the ball. The 1-1 and it’s fouled [Music] away. The wine, the kick, and the one two knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. [Music] And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Now pitching new pitcher in the game for the Royals, Taylor Clark. He’s pitching on two days rest. Gavin Lux in the left fieldielder number two, Gavin Lux. Fouled off to the right. You’re one. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there if you’re smart to look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. and it finds its way through for a hit. So, the go-ahehead run is on base with a knock. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Go ahead run on base. And here’s the catcher, Jose Trevinho. [Applause] There’s the strike. 95 of that one. 01’s the count. Here comes the pitch. There goes the runner from first. Garcia. No chance of the double play with the runner in motion. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. The job was to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score the go ahead run. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. [Applause] Benson in the box now. Takes strike one. One out. The go-ahead run is at second. [Applause] And that’s a little bit high. And one and one. [Applause] [Applause] just misses there. That’s a really good take. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. The hattick and there’s two away. Nice work there to get the strike out. And that’s a big second out. I’ll tell you this home crowd will be fired up. They can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position. This is a big moment in this game. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Next for Cincinnati, Connor Joe. Right through there for a strike. Oh, and one. [Applause] Two down. Go ahead run in scoring position. Next offering is downstairs. Man on second, two down. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Wow. No fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Fern down to first with it. Throw sails on him and it takes off down the line. He beats the throw and a run scores. That’s one way to get your first run of the ball game across. You’ll take that every day if you’re on offense and maybe that gets them going a little bit. Matt Mlan will hit next. [Applause] Slice the other way and [Applause] foul. Two outs. Swing at a high-fly ball right field. Kenna puts it away. And that is that. One run, one hit, one error, and one left. Midway in inning number seven, and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Reds one and the Royals nothing. And we’re back. Bottom of the seventh now. Here is Vinnie Pasquantino. These fans definitely want to get involved in the game. All it’s going to take is to get the leadoff man or even a base runner on. Ground ball left side. He gets there on a slide and they get the out. Big play there to get the lead off. Man, as an infielder, you have to be ready for anything. In that spot, it required going to the ground, getting a little dirty, and making a strong throw for the out. Great play. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Salvador Perez. And that drops in for a strike. I really like how he’s been attacking hitters early in at bats. He’s thrown strikes on the first pitch to over 70% of the guys he’s faced in this one. Looking to get the tying run on base out to short. Dela Cruz in plenty of time to first. And that quickly two away. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. So, two down now and here is Mark Cana. There’s a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Brent Sudter up and throwing for Terry Francona. Rogers also throwing and the one and a breaking ball misses outside [Music] and a foul ball. [Music] Two down, nobody on. That missed by a lot. Now two and two. Now a highf fly ball out to left center. Fredel on the move. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that ends the inning. Still in total command on the mound with seven shutout innings. It’s the Reds one and the Royals nothing. Now pitching for the So the Royals bring on a new arm. Michael Lorenz pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of them right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Back to the top of the order now. TJ Fidel getting ready to hit. 0 for three in this one. Foul ball there. [Applause] [Music] And he’ll one ball one. sliced hard but fouled down the left side [Music] and a fast ball misses outside for a ball and the count’s even at two. That one almost got him. tapped back up the middle, fires over to first. First out in the top of the eighth. The third baseman number four, Santiago Espino. Here’s the third baseman, Santiago Espol. Pitch misses outside. One and0 bullpen action for the Royals. Lucas Ersk appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Serpa the power lefty up as well. On the ground right side whips it to first. Two up, two down here in the top of the eighth. Two outs. Space is empty. In now for the Reds. Ellie Dea Cruz. That one misses in the dirt. Fouls one off out of play. Back to our left. Two outs. Swing at a highf fly ball. Well struck. That’s back. And that one’s gone. His second home run of the series. And they add to their lead. It’s two nothing. That was blasted. Absolutely. No doubt off the bat. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage, even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. Two outs, nobody on. Austin Hayes, the next to hit for the Reds. Swing and a miss. Ugly swing right there. One. Two down. Base is empty, but one run across and we’re in the top of the [Applause] eighth. That’s a base hit. The left fielder number two, Gavin Lux. Two outs, runner at first. Gavin Lux now at the plate. One for three. He was late there. Strike one. 01’s the count. Hayes off of first with two away. Way out front for strike two. Two strike. Swinging a miss. Struck him out. Pulled the string on the change up. The Reds rolling after this solo shot. And it’s two zip. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Brent Sudter. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season. So these batters better be ready to swing the bats. Now it’s the switch in the outfield Drew Waters. The center fielder Drew Waters. First pitch and he just misses. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Emilio Pagan up and throwing for Terry Francona. The lefty the one. That one fouled off. [Music] Highf fly ball shallow right field. Benson makes the grab. One away. Now batting the left fielder Nick Nick Loftton digs in now. Late swing fouled off. Fouled off left side. [Music] One down, base is empty. Ball one there. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. And that one is lifted in the air. Benson makes the play. Two down. Now batting the second baseman, Mike. Now it’s the second baseman, Michael Massie, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And that’s downstairs and it’s one and0. One, no. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. That one outside. Ball two. Struggled a little bit in this one. couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitters count at 2 and 0. Swing and a miss. Two and two now. Well, in this one, the offense has sputtered. Somebody’s got to find a way to get on, keep the line moving, and manufacture at least one run. Then maybe you get two or three. swing and a miss and he struck him out and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Royals bats are quiet there. They’re still down. It’s two zip. Now pitching for the We’re back. And on the mound is the closer Carlos Estz. He last pitched four days ago, so he should feel pretty fresh. Here’s the Red’s catcher, Jose Trovinho. [Applause] Travin right through there for a strike. Estz in his ninth season, 32 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. There’s the strike. Cold night like tonight, last thing you want to do as a hitter is get jammed or even off the end. Trying to find that sweet spot on the bat. Tell you what, you’re going to be trying to catch things out front. So, off speed pitches may be a good compliment to that fast ball. And down on strikes he goes and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Gosh, here it is. Hit it. Three pitch strike out. All fast balls. Man, he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now. Now it’s the right fielder, Will Benson. Three strikeouts already. He’s 0 for three. There’s the strike. [Applause] And it’s even up. [Music] [Applause] Swing and a miss. There’s the change up. It’s been a tough day at the plate. Three strikeouts already. It’s hard not to think negative, but you got to find a way to somehow center up the baseball and put it in play. That one misses the countdown. Two and two. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves, knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Joe stands in with two away as he takes a ball. [Applause] Swanging a ball drilled center field. Waters sizing this one up and he makes the catch and that is that. Nothing across here this half and 92 scheduled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Reds two and the Royals nothing. [Applause] Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Emlio Pagan. Save opportunity for him right here. And he’s their guy. Time to lock this one down and get out of here with the W. So up now for Kansas City. Freddy for me. Look at this. You got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base, turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off. That catches the top part of the zone. That’s strike one. swing and a high-fly ball down the right field line. Calls it in and there’s one away. Now batting third base Mike. He’s two outs away now to third baseman Mikel Garcia. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. That one clips the outside corner and one. Pagan a very difficult guy to get hits off of. It’s really rare for teams to string stuff together against him. He wins every pitch and for a hitter. Sometimes a victory is just fouling off one of his pitches. Base is empty, one away. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. [Applause] down hammered but pulled fouled. Unless he beats himself somehow can’t find it, doesn’t have the control command that day, you can pretty much forget about it. Foul ball still a one and two count. As a hitter, there’s even more pressure to take advantage of any mistake, right? Yeah. And you’re hoping that, you know, somehow someway, whether it’s a hit by pitch, a walk, something bad happens because outside of that, stuff is just too good to fail. two strike. The Reds trying to close out a two-run lead here in the last half of inning number nine. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Had a foul ball just off the outside edge. And he’s got deception in his delivery. And it’s not that he’s trying to deceive the hitters. He just has this natural flow that makes it hard for hitters to pick the ball up. It gets on him a little bit quicker than they anticipate, even though they know what the velocity numbers are. I guarantee he’s going to check the tape on that last pitch when he gets a chance because he thought it was ball four and he wasn’t wrong. I mean, it was a close pitch. Definitely not an easy call, but especially after a long at bat, that’ll drive you crazy getting rung up like that. Last chance for the Royals. Bobby Wit Jr. steps in for the Royals. Ground ball to short. This ought to do it. Throw to first. Ball game and the Reds claim the win here behind some great pitching and defense. Great pitchers duel in this one. You get to a certain point where each pitcher is trying to outdo the other. Go a little bit deeper into the ball game. And for these pitchers, it really came down to a few key at bats. This was a fun one to watch. Two nothing your final here in this one for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB. show. I’m John Shami saying so long
