What went wrong for the Dallas Stars?

tip of the cap to them. That’s a tough part of being a pro. Johnny coming to you right away on this. Pete Dbor really candid, really direct. Your reaction. I always appreciate honesty and so we were going to applaud him for doing that, acknowledging that he thought the Oilers were a better team. But I think the takeaway was really his response about Jay Goter and the decision to pull him. He cited the numbers of struggling as Edmonton the last couple years. Jake Goter is going to be there for the next decade. He just signed a massive extension and so he’s going to be the goalie that takes him in the future and to it be so many coaches would just publicly support the goalender and suggest you we weren’t ready. It was about getting the team going not about the goalender which he did say that was part of it but then went on to say that you know Jake sample size is not small. he doesn’t win against Edmonton in the playoffs. And that’s pretty damning criticism of your franchise goalender from the coach. Again, he feels it and the numbers would suggest is true is just very surprising to hear. And if you’re Jakeer with another six, seven, eight more years to play in Dallas, Pete Debor, your coach, you’re already upset you lost. You’re not happy about how you played. To hear that from the coach publicly, even if it’s true, would not make Jayer feel very good. Yeah, I think Pete Dbor would like to dial that back maybe. I I mean, I look at those two goals. First is a power play. Cory Perry, nobody’s stopping that. Second one, that’s a partial breakaway. It goes five hole on them and it’s the end mark, but I mean goals. It’s a breakaway. You know, two goals and two shots. Yeah, but they’re prime scoring opportunities. Listen, Pete Dbor is I’ll never come close to what he’s ever been as a coach. Uh, but to call a timeout and then to pull your goalie at the same time. Typically, you do one or the other. You you pull if you you let in two bad goals, you pull your goalie. You don’t need a timeout. You pull your goalie. That gives you a time. That sends a message to the team. But now, you’re calling a timeout to send a message to the team. And then as your goalie tries to get back to the net, you yank him. Um, I’m not too sure what happened there. But, uh, it’s not going to sit well, I don’t think, with Jake Hoter. just speaks to the frustration was just oozing out of like of course he’s frustrated but most people get to the even the players they they kind of compose themselves and and they they calm their emotions but it was still very raw but I think the other surprising part you talk about you talk about how good Edmonton was that’s all part of it we celebrated Dallas as having maybe the deepest forward group in the NHL they had so many good players they had five five on five goals in the series in five games yeah wow five. Yeah. Wow. So, I mean, you want to talk about the issue is the issue is you can’t score. As much as it is about Jay Goter not beating Edmonton or letting up goals early, whatever it is, the offense is what hurt you in the end, which is so surprising because it was the offense that was going to drive Dallas to the Stanley Cup final and over this hump that they’ve been at the last couple years and that came up dry. That’s that’s the bigger issue for Dallas. That’s what they’ll want to think about. What happened to all that depth, to all that offense? It disappeared at the worst possible time. Jason Robertson was their leading goal scorer in the regular season. He gets hurt in game 82. Sometimes there’s just bad luck, too, that’ll hit you. Lot to think about for the Dallas Stars this off seasonason.

It was another disappointing end to the season for the Dallas Stars. NHL Tonight discusses where things went wrong for Dallas in Game 5 and in the series.

  1. The question is…WAS THIS HIS TIKKONOV MOMENT (Pulling Tretiak after the bad rebound goal in 1980 vs Team USA? Or was it a review of his entire series vs. Edmonton, and he was not great vs the Jets. Both Tretiak and Oetteinger were over played during their seasons (Tretiak National and Club Team) Now on the National Team Myshkin was very capable of winning a medal, bur De Smith was not capable of winning one playoff game.

  2. It's really pretty rough to say Oatinger doesn't win against Edmonton. There are a few goalies that are called "elite" until they play Edmonton.

How about your team scoring 1.2 goals per game for the last 4 games? Why the hate on the goalie? Just to deflect the attention from the coach, maybe?

  3. Ottenger is a great goalie and it's not his fault for a lot of the goals. He's way better than most goalies. Not like desmith is going to be great for you with barely playing any minutes at all. Dumb move. It's almost like he's blaming it all on him. They wouldn't have gotten this far without Jake. He killed that relationship. Get rid of Pete.

  4. We never recovered from that 7 game losing streak at the end of the season. I’ll give it to the oilers, they played defense really well. I think the biggest problem this series was puck control. Pucks not being able to be controlled and turned over frequently killed so many chances. Our opportunities were squandered. That’s why Edmonton’s overall shooting percentage was higher.

  5. Oettinger should've been pulled a game or two earlier, he couldn't stop an inanimate rock by this game. But, that was definitely exacerbated by the fact that his entire team was leaving coiler after coiler completely alone in front of the net again and again. You could see that with Perry's two goals as he was completely on his own RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE NET with no one around. Same thing with the goal after Perry, there was literally NO ONE AROUND! They hung him out to dry and yet it's Oettinger that's taking the blame. That's not even mentioning that the top guns for the Stars were nowhere to be found all series!

  6. Dallas are not as great as they appeared. Oettinger struggled at times against the Avs, but did enough in the games that counted. Jets were weaker than advertised. Oilers hitting top gear at the right time.

  7. the stars just didnt have enough offense ! they are a very good team just like carolina but they wont win a cup until each adds 2 or more legit goal scorers !

  8. kinda sucks for ottinger that a day after he proclaimed himself to be one of the best goalies in the world he got pulled in the first period of the most important game this season for the stars !
