St. Louis Cardinals Promote Rising OF Prospect! McGreevy Up To STL In June?
The Cardinals just issued a big promotion for one of their minor league outfield prospects. And could it be sooner rather than later that we see the return of Michael McGrevy to St. Louis? I’ll explain coming up on Bshape [Music] Daily. What’s going on everyone and welcome in to this edition of Bshave Daily. Brendan Schaefer with you. It is Thursday evening, May 29th, 2025. Cardinals have the off day today at the big league level. They’ll get set for their series beginning in Arlington, Texas against the Rangers on Friday night. Matthew Liberator taking the mound for the Red Birds. But we have sort of a down on the farm themed episode of Bshave Daily for you today because a couple of happenings going on at the minor league level that I think are worth discussing. and the Cardinals promoting outfield prospect Joshua Bayaz from HA Peoria up to double A Springfield. We’ll explain his path to this point and maybe contextualize Joshua Bayaz in the grand scheme of things when it comes to other Cardinal outfield prospects who are trying to make their way toward the big league sooner rather than later. And speaking of things that could happen soon, Michael McGrevy could be making his way back to the big league roster for the Cardinals in short order based on the schedule for the month of June. I’ll explain why I think the Cardinals may consider going back to a six-man rotation and why this time if they did, it would be Michael McGrevy rather than Steven Matz that would be slotted into that additional role for the starting staff. Those are the topics coming up tonight on the Everyday St. Louis Cardinals podcast, Bshave Daily. Make sure you hit that subscribe button or follow Bshave Daily on Spotify or Apple Podcast. Anywhere you get your podcast, you can find Bshave Daily. And we’re talking Cardinals every day of the season. If daily St. Louis Cardinals content for your ears is your business, then uh so is Bshave Daily, I reckon. I’m going to go ahead and do it because last night we did a live stream where we didn’t end up playing the Down on the Farm drop at all. I still have to work out the technology on how to do that during our live episodes, which you can make sure to hit the bell on YouTube for notifications so you never miss it when we go live for a stream, but I want to play the Down on the Farm drop right out of the gates tonight because we’re pretty much only talking about things going on at the minor league level. So, we might as well get into it by going down on the farm. It’s time to go down on the farm. Brought to you by Hastings Layers Premium Eggs. You’ll be happier in a jackass eating thistle. Huh? So, let’s talk about it. Earlier this week, the St. Louis Cardinals organization issued a promotion to an outfield prospect that will be making his way from HA Poria up to DoubleA Springfield. And we’re talking about Joshua Bayz, the former second round draft pick back in the 2021 MLB amateur draft, who has been kicking around down in the lower levels of the miners for a number of years now and sort of hit a wall at the Aball level in 2023 where he was down there in Palm Beach. Had pretty good numbers as a uh 19-year-old in 2022 there with a 957 OPS, but that was in a pretty limited sample. So when he returned to Palm Beach in 2023, the numbers over a full season uh were you were left a little bit wanting. The strikeout numbers out of control back in 2023 for Joshua Bayz. 122 strikeouts in just 358 plate appearances. But there were raw abilities there that you definitely recognized with him. Drew 45 walks in that season as well. So, a 341 on base percentage looked a lot shinier than the 218 batting mark that he put together in a ball back in 2023. And he was still a little bit younger than the level he was playing at. I love the tool on baseball reference that shows you the average age differential for a player when they’re playing at a various uh minor league stop relative to the rest of that league. If you have a minus next to your name, that’s preferable, right? because you want to be playing as generally if you’re talking about prospect pedigree as a a younger player at a level where you’re playing against older players and if you’re continuing to thrive in those circumstances think Mason Win Jordan Walker guys like that that were young kept working their way up to the higher levels of the minors as pretty young players relative to the rest of the players in those leagues and to continue to succeed shows aptitude and the potential to continue moving forward right so that’s always what you want and that was still the case for Joshua Bayz back in 2023, even though he was still at low A, um he was uh in his age 20 season. Now, granted, he’s about as early of a qualifier for the age 20 season back in 2023 because right now he’s technically in his age 2022 season, or pardon me, his age 22 season here in 2025, but he’s not yet turned 22. He’ll turn 22 on June the 28th, and I believe the cutoff is July 1st. So, if I were a Major League Baseball prospect at any point in time, which of course was never going to happen, but I would have barely missed that cut off to where I would be classified as a year younger, even though with a July 1st birthday, I’d be playing half of that season basically at the older age, but I believe that’s the cutoff. And so, this is considered his age 22 season right now in 2025, even though he does not turn 22 for another month or so, right before that July 1 cut off. But still, generally speaking, Bayaz was a lot younger uh or at least an average of 1.2 years younger than the level he was playing at in 2023. And the reason that feels actually kind of relevant is that he makes that cut off to be considered a little bit older than he is when you’re looking at that age differential on baseball reference. So for half of that season in 2023, he was actually playing a ball at 19 years old. So, a little bit maybe uh tricky to understand what I’m getting at there, but it’s a way to say that Joshua Abias don’t give up on him yet, right? With a year like that in 2023 where he came up with a 723 OPS, had a very low batting mark of 218, tons of strikeouts, but still an on base skill that was noticeable. And so, you work with that and you move into 2024 where he continues to play a little bit there at the low A level of Palm Beach and was putting up much better numbers on base near 500. The slug was at 500 in 61 played appearances very quickly with a a 10 out of 10 stolen base mark as well. They move up Joshua Bayz in 2024 up to Poria which is in the Midwest League there. High A is what that is considered. And then kind of a similar story for Bayz after that move up. Had some time where he took to adjust to that next level and still was striking out a ton. 97 strikeouts and 259 played appearances. And look, sometimes that is just the nature of a player. You take the good with the bad. He’s been a stolen base threat at the minor league level, which is great to see. A lot of guys though are stolen base threats at the lower levels of the minors when pitchers at those levels are just trying to focus on learning how to pitch at the professional level and not maybe as focused on holding runners on. So, we’ll see if that is a skill set that uh maintains for Bayz. But he ended up with 29 stolen bases in 34 attempts for 2024. But the numbers once again 225 average after he was promoted to Aball or pardon me high Aball in 2024. The on base was improved but only 306 had a little bit of slug a 694 OPS. I I don’t know whether in the MLB pipeline prospect rankings for the Cardinals. I’d have to go back and see a a previous version of those rankings from a prior year which maybe I can do here on MLB pipeline. Yeah, I can scroll back to the basically the preseason rankings. I think it would have been or even maybe the mid-season update for 2024 and I’ll find that Joshua Bayz was then ranked as the 30th prospect in the Cardinals organization. They only do 30 on MLB pipeline and he was number 30 barely making the list and was behind names like Drew Rahm and Andre Geneo who is still a a pitcher in Triple A behind guys like Ian Bedell, Cesar Prito, Adam Cloffenstein who’s now out of the organization. So like the and granted Quinn Matthews in 2024 after he was just just drafted was only the 22nd ranked prospect and uh quickly moved his way up that list right in 2025 it’s a different story but Ryan Fernandez was on the list for example. So like players that you have an idea of Bayz was ranked below a lot of those guys and was just barely on the list barely hanging on there. And then the beginning of this season as a result of kind of not maybe accelerating through high a ball last year with very impressive numbers. He actually has dropped off the list. This is a guy that we’re talking about who is not among the top 30 prospects according to MLB pipeline within the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Now, I personally, if I were to do my own prospect rankings, and it’s not to say that I’m overly qualified to do so, but I have a pretty good idea of a lot of these guys, not all of them. Certainly, there are names on this list where I would have to look them up, but I, you know, guys who it tells you their ETA is 2029 to the big leagues. Never heard of that guy in my life, right? There’s a couple of those. A lot of the names I’m aware of. I would make the case that Joshua Bayz is ahead of a number of these guys on this list. Like as an example, I’m looking at the 2025 MLB pipeline prospects list as we speak. Sam Robertson is 14th on the list. I, you know, I I’m not so sure. And granted, this was probably taken before his Tommy John surgery. Uh, but the numbers didn’t look great from Sem. Like, I would be I would call it an upset at this point if Sem is ever appearing in a game for the big league St. Louis Cardinal. I could be wrong about that. Um, just recently had Tommy John surgery. We’ll see what the Cardinals end up doing with him in terms of a 40man roster spot. I mean, because that’s kind of a really tricky element of this when the Cardinals end up needing a spot. And certainly in the offseason, you have to clear everybody off of the 60-day IIL. And so, um, spots are even more difficult to come by unless you have free agents that depart, which this team will, but nevertheless, like Sam Robertson just had Tommy John surgery. He wasn’t really performing anyway. And now maybe that was due to the injury. You know, I I can remember back to spring training. he was not looking like himself necessarily. And so the decision on that would come, you know, maybe at the the end of the season if the Cardinals believe holding him through the offseason and through this Tommy John rehab on the 40man is something they want to do. But my point is like I I think you could probably find some names I would place Joshua Bayz higher than in this top 30. just to like contextualize coming into the year there was probably a lot of doubt about Joshua Bayz and whether or not you know he was going to be somebody that continued to progress or if he was somebody that might stall out at the lower levels of the minors but he was coming into this season with an opportunity there at Hay Peoria and we saw the similar leap that he made going from 2023 to 2024 at Palm Beach. Uh we saw that same thing from Peoria and so far this year. Bay is putting together a really nice start to the campaign. 20 for 22 on stolen base attempts. I mentioned that like he’s a guy that’s running at the lower levels of the miners and we’ll see if that continues um as he makes his way up. But four home runs, 24 runs driven in, 20 stolen bases in 38 games. So certainly making his mark. And you know, maybe the one of the more notable aspects of everything that we’re looking at with his profile here, 36 strikeouts in 168 played appearances, which is still not maybe an otherworldly uh rate, but it’s a lot improved from what he had been doing in previous seasons at the similar level of the Miners. I could go back to 2024 where he struck out 97 times in 259 played appearances. So, let’s just do that quick math. 97 divided by 259. 37.4% of his played appearances that season at the Peoria level in 2024 ended via strikeout. 37.4% of played appearances. I mean, that’s a significant mark. This year, 36 divided by 168 down to 21.4% of played appearances ending in a strikeout. So, marketked improvement in that regard. batting average went up by nearly 100 points from 225 to 317 at the same level. On base percentage did something similar going from 306 to 404. And the slugging same story 388 up to 483 in those four home runs, eight doubles and a couple of triples. I mean a very nice solid statline for Joshua Bayas again playing in his age 22 season but has not yet actually turned 22. Will do so before that July 1 cut off. 8.86 86 the OPS for Joshua Bayz in 38 games at Peoria this year. And now getting the call up to double A. And look, I I think if I were a a betting man, I would bet on Joshua Bayas probably having a a somewhat similar time period where he is needing to adjust to the new level and that maybe his Springfield numbers this year might not jump off the page. And I and I think that would be reasonable considering that has been sort of the story with him at every level so far. And you know what? That sounds a lot like a guy that is currently on the Cardinals raking with a 795 OPS and Mason win. That was kind of his story, right? We talked about it just taking some time for him to adjust and once he would every step of the way along his minor league progression, he would end up in a really nice spot and uh would sort of master that level. Now, fast forward to tonight where Joshua Bias makes his debut with the Springfield Cardinals in double A. And we’ll get into the the the more normal sounding portion of Down on the Farm when we do the segment. Two for four tonight for Joshua Bayz. Stole a base and scored a run in his first appearance at DoubleA. So that’s pretty good to see. In fact, he actually stole two bases and was not caught stealing. So two for two. Keep running, young man. I mean, that is something that you’d love to see be able to stick and be an element of his game when he gets to the higher levels. He’s a right field candidate there at DoubleA. Still Chase Davis starting in center and Nathan Church in left. Suddenly this Springfield roster is looking really interesting. Teaming with prospects that you’re hopeful about for their collective futures in Major League Baseball. But Bayz goes two for four. Couple of stolen bases, scored a run. He did strike out in the two plate appearances in which he did not get a hit tonight. But you’ll take the good with the bad. And it will be interesting to see what he does at Springfield. I’m not declaring anything about Joshua Bay just yet, but um certainly if he can maybe hold down even like a 700 ops for the rest of the season in Springfield and remember he’s turned 22 this year. Does he is he then a guy that comes into spring training next year with a new lease on life and a new lease on his career and is maybe flying back up prospect rankings into perhaps the organizational top 20, top 15, perhaps even higher than that depending on how the rest of the year at Springfield goes. And remember, he’ll be doing so in February as a 22-y old player with a number of minor league seasons behind him, but he was drafted uh you know, high school age for Joshua Bayaz coming out. So, in 2021, he was an 18-year-old just getting his feet wet at rookie ball. So, I I just think he’s an interesting player and and somebody to keep an eye on and you really feel good about the progression he has made. Pretty simply, I’m watching the strikeout stuff. I’m watching the on base and look if he can provide a little bit of power at the double level as as well that would be notable and we’ll see as time goes along what that looks like for Joshua Bayas. But pretty cool that he um is is maybe ascending back into the conversation of the prospect ranks for the St. Louis Cardinals organization. And uh so far so good batting number five in the order tonight for Springfield. They won six to nothing over the uh Northwest Arkansas Naturals. And the DA Cardinals got contributions in their lineup from JJ Weatherholt who went one for two with a couple of walks. So he was on base three times. Has an 833 OPS at double A. Leo Bernal goes one for four and drives in a couple of runs. 837 for his OPS. Was a quieter night for Nathan Church and Chase Davis combining to go 0 for9 with a couple of combined Ks. But Church is sitting at that 931 OPS. Chase Davis, who hopefully is still with a bright future for the Cardinals, 783 on his OPS. Add Bayz into the mix and you’ve got five plus guys down at the DA level that we’re really interested and seeing what’ll be going on with them. So, look forward to seeing from those position players moving forward in our down on the farm segment here on Bshave Daily. And let’s talk pitching while we’re at it at DoubleA cuz Taka Roby could be somebody that very soon could be in conversation for a promotion. Five and a third zeros across the run lines for Takakota Robby tonight. Four hits allowed, one walk, eight strikeouts. He’s now got a 2.68 erra at double A. He could be knocking on that door. And when you think about the Memphis Redbirds, they’re not getting a ton in the way of productivity from their rotation. Now, obviously getting um maybe Tink Hence and Quinn Matthews back before too long would be helpful to that team. I don’t remember where they assigned Tink originally. If it was double A or AAA, he’ll be to AAA before long. you would have to imagine, but it’s really more about the health factor for him. And a lot of people obviously talking about Tink Kent in the context of wondering what does his future look like? Is it as a starter? Is it as a reliever? He has never pitched yet in Triple A, but last year when healthy, which was not the whole season, only made 20 starts. Um was a 2.71 erra, 109 strikeouts in 79 innings. So Tinks, like his stuff is beyond reproach. We know that he is a very very talented arm for this Cardinals team. It’s just about keeping him healthy. Quinn Matthews though, you’re just talking about guys that could be making their way back to the Memphis rotation. And man, two three weeks from now, that thing could have a very different look to it compared to what we have been saying about it in recent weeks. But for the moment, it’s uh it’s still kind of hurting. 11 to8 the Red Birds lose on Thursday night. Cornwell gave up seven runs, 11 hits, and his erra is over nine. So that’s kind of what I’m talking about there. Chris Royoft though out of the bullpen getting some work and some opportunities to work on some things. Uh not great mixed results for him. A couple of hits and a walk allowed, an unearned run allowed, but two innings of work. Did have a strikeout and no earned runs allowed for Roy Croft. Offensively though, when you put up eight runs, there was a lot to like. And by the way, this was a seven ining game. So, is this a case of rain shortened or did the the Red Birds play a double header today? Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, trying to see if there’s another game. No, I I think that was the lone game for them and it was just shortened uh due due to rain or whatever the circumstances are. I know they they’re bunching a lot of games in a short period of time with the various rain delays and postponements that they have had at that level. Uh but we’ll talk about Michael Cian, man. He’s been really hitting the ball well down there. He was one for two today with a run scored a couple of RBI’s. He’s up to an 806 OPS down there at the DA level. So, good to see from him and uh don’t be surprised if he ends up making his way back to the Cardinals because I think the best version of a Cardinals roster that is uh looking to go into October. Ciani would be on that team for me because he would be the hands team that would come in in the later innings if you if you have a lead in a playoff type of environment. Um he’d be much more valuable to the roster in that regard than Barrerero would. And we’ll see if you get to the postseason if they’re really needing the three catchers. I’ve talked a lot about why the three catcher thing does not bother me, but I also think if we’re talking playoffs, you might be prioritizing those roster spots a little bit differently. Thomas JC two times on base in the game today, going one for three, scoring a run and also reaching via walk. And a good night for Jimmy Crooks, three for four with a couple of RBI’s. Luke and Baker still struggling. Matt Caperniaak generally still struggling but had a home run tonight, his fourth of the season as a DH tonight in that lineup for Memphis. And uh Brian Torres, another name to keep an eye on as we’re talking about those double A outfielders that are pushing for opportunities. He’s a guy at the AAA level batting 306 OPS of 848. Mike Antto a little bit on the older side as prospects are concerned. He’s another guy with a 326 batting average, 821 on the OPS. Antico was great tonight, three for three with a couple of RBI’s and a run scored, but Torres was over for just reaching via walk. So that’s what’s going on there in in regards to down on the farm. But I wanted to talk about before we get out of here the other topic that we teased which is Michael McGrevy. I think you could see Michael McGrevy on the St. Louis Cardinals roster and not only there but in the rotation sooner rather than later and I’m not necessarily thinking there’s going to need to be an injury to set that situation up. Today’s an off day for the Cardinals. We’re going Friday, Saturday, Sunday. They’re playing the Texas Rangers and then you get another off day on Monday. The rotation should be well and rested for that home stand where you go Kansas City, um, Los Angeles, and then Toronto. It’s a it’s a lengthy stay at home for the Cardinals over the week and a half following the Texas Rangers series beginning on Friday. I think at some point in that home stand, you may consider opting back into a brief spell of a six-man rotation. You get into the this isn’t really the dog days, but you start to get into the the summertime where the weather’s going to turn up and the Cardinals have been so careful about the way they have handled their starting pitching staff this year, not necessarily pushing them too deep into games back in April, giving them that extra day of rest at times when Steven Mats has subbed in when the off days were not as plentiful as they have been over the month of May with four consecutive Thursdays off. I wonder if they would maybe approach it a little bit differently this time though and considering the role that Steven Matz has carved for himself out in the St. Louis bullpen. Do you bring McGrevy up who has been shoving has uh his most recent outing being a six inning one-run performance in which he struck out nine hitters. Is that enough for the Cardinals to take a look and say, you know, we could maybe be killing two birds with one stone, getting the additional rest for the rotation to keep them healthy. The Cardinals have had maybe the healthiest big league rotation in baseball because they’re one of the few teams that hasn’t lost anybody at any point in the season, even going back to the spring in terms of injury or IIL stints. And that could be credited to the way that they have managed very conservatively, right? Some would say, oh, you got to push these guys. No, the Cardinals would disagree with that. They would say that the way that you keep these guys healthy and strong throughout the six-month summer is by managing it the way that they have. Well, in the month of May though, there is not much not to like about Michael McGrevy at the AAA level and uh we’ve seen him at the big league level as well. Was a a big part of things as the Cardinals got that uh kind of winning streak, winning uh ways rolling in early May. That was uh what kicked off the month of May for McGrevy. A five and two third inning performance u out of relief for the Cardinals in that game against the Mets. and he ended up going the distance in that he came in as a reliever and finished the game even though it was a very close contest. Uh they they let him go the whole way because that was part of a double header. And he was fantastic that day. And since then he’s proceeded to go five innings, one earned, five innings, no earned. Um nine strikeouts and five strikeouts respectively. Six innings, two earned, sixks. Six inning, one earned, nineks. That’s been the month of May for Michael McGrevy. He is absolutely ready. We have seen what we need to see. A 1.30 RA for the month and uh man, what more could you want to see from this guy? Right. So, as a result of that, don’t mess with Stephen Mats right now. There was a time where I advocated that he should get a longer look for the rotation and and and maybe have that come at the expense of Eric Fetty if he wasn’t performing. But at the end of the day, I look at Stephen Matz right now, 1.9 RA. He has been utilized in just about every way that Oliver Marmal could conceive of and it’s really working out to the benefit of the Cardinals. He can come in in a short stint if they need a a at bat against a tough lefty. He can come in for multiple innings. He can come in for an inning and a half. I mean, he can do just about everything for the Cardinals. And that’s been very valuable, especially during the period where Jojo and John King weren’t performing as well. Uh those guys have turned the corner and they’re looking a little bit better out there, more reliable. Uh but that’s great. I mean, you you need three left-handers in my opinion because one day you’re going to use Matts and the other day you might have to use the other two guys and kind of oscillate them back and forth. So Matts has been very useful in that role. I I would prefer him to remain in it and then allow Michael McGrevy to be rewarded for the month of May that he has had and say, “Hey, the schedule’s about to dictate it.” And it doesn’t mean he’s going to be permanently into the rotation, but could you see a realm in which a a very rested starter group comes into that home stand against Kansas City and Los Angeles and then maybe over the weekend? And it’ll kind of depend too on how McGrevy lines up. I think he uh last pitched on May 28th. So that’s yesterday as I’m recording this, but that will mean probably Tuesday he would line up to pitch, give or take, or at least he could on on relatively regular rest. And then, you know, by depending on how the Cardinals want to line up their rotation, you could move some things around with the off day on Monday if you wanted to shift guys by a day, but find the guys that may need the additional day and slap McGrevy in somewhere in that probably in that weekend against the Dodgers, which I understand maybe not ideal to say, “Hey, we’re going to bring you up and we’re going to bring you up against Choi Otani in company, but maybe find a way.” And look, maybe that’s not the way that they do it. Maybe they say, “We’re going to let the five go through the rotation the first time through and then get you through that Dodger series and then maybe the break comes where three of the five guys in the rotation get it because you bring McGrevy up for that Monday or Tuesday against Toronto and then that allows you to just plug and play for that one start. You get the off day on Monday, June 16th. And then there’s one spot in the following uh stretch of games from the 17th through the 2nd of July where there is no off day that he maybe starts one or two times in there. Um as long as it doesn’t screw with his schedule too much, I think that could be something the Cardinals look to do. Um that way it’s more of a modified six-man rotation. And frankly, I don’t worry this time about, well, you’re going to have to lose a bullpen guy if you call McGrevy up because Matt Sponsson has really not been used with much regularity. And and that’s sort of the spot in the bullpen that, you know, everybody else has kind of carved out a niche, has carved out a role. And it sort of feels like for Oliver Marmal, that eighth guy in the bullpen has just kind of been there break glass in case of emergency. I’m not really commenting on that being right or wrong. it it’s just the case that you know there hasn’t been a ton of trust necessarily established. Um we have seen Swanson come into uh a game on the 26th of May when uh the Cardinals lost that one 5-2. He pitched in uh came into the sixth inning and pitched into the seventh in that one and that’s the last time we saw him and before that we didn’t see him for about a week and a half now. I can’t remember for sure. Was he on the roster the entire time? I think not right because Roy Croft was there and so then he came back up. Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem like if you did lose Fonson, it’s not to say that it’s just easy to go through with only seven relievers, but for a a quick spell, I think that would be something the Cardinals could manage with the way that the other seven relievers in the bullpen are starting to get things together. Those are my takes on maybe the Cardinals consider it. Six-man rotation kind of modified again and throwing a few big league starts in there for Michael McGrevy. two or three. It wouldn’t be any more than that in the month of June and it would just simply be out of necessity and hopefully to keep the rest of the starters healthy as long as you can have that. I think that would be to the benefit of the Cardinals. So, let me know what you think about that idea and what your thoughts are Cardinal fans on Joshua Bayz getting the call up to double Springfield and performing pretty well in his first opportunity there. That though is going to do it for this edition of Bshave Daily. Make sure you are locked in on the YouTube channel Brendan Schaefer St. Louis Cardinal Writer. locked in on SportsHubstl for all of their YouTube content and for the articles that I post to sportshubstl.com. The St. Louis Cardinals promoted rising outfield prospect Joshua Baez from High-A Peoria to Double-AA Springfield this week after the 21-year-old former 2nd round draft pick (2021) showed everything the organization needed to see from him at A-ball.
We discuss Baez’s promotion in the context of the crop of other outfield prospects that the Cards have working their way through the system.
Plus, is there a case to be made that Michael McGreevy will be up with the big-league team sooner rather than later? A look at the June schedule may be all it takes to compel the Cardinals to give him a call.

Lets go
I was in Springfield tonight and watched Baez hit his first single! I was actually sitting in the bottom row right next to wear the batters coming up warm up. I leaned over to my dad when Baez walked up and said “this guy looks like he built like Juan Soto”. I could be completely off but he seemed very confident and like he was very comfortable behind the plate
What would you like to see the Cardinals do at the trade deadline? And do you think Mo will hold on to veterans like Arenado and Helsley if he has a chance to make the playoffs so that he'll look better in his last year?
Nice job
I am enjoying the progress of our young players and hope that Walker has found steady footing. However, Goreman is never going to do it here, he is a classic need of change player. While Mikolas has had a good stretch, I don't trust him and every one of his starts I hold my breath. McGreevy needs to get a run in the majors as he is part of the future, or the Cardinals have a big problem. Mikolas is gone anyway and at the first sign of him getting shellaced he would be in the bullpen, or out the door.
Before you made the comparison and were just reading the numbers at the different levels, I thought Diaz sounded very much like what Winn did. Hopefully he continues.
McGreevy definitely deserves to be with the big club. If they don't deploy a six man rotation he would still be good for a spot start every week or so or a replacement if Mikolas implodes.
Based on last year and this year I think that had Matz been in this current role he probably would have been healthier and more valuable during his entire time with the Cardinals, but I understand that they paid him starter money. Hindsight is 20/20, I suppose.
I'm just happy that we have some options these days unlike the past.
Good show.
The Mooo gets me every time😂 love it
mcgreevy is my favorite player and i think this idea is brilliant
I wonder how much of this improvement is because of the changes done to the coaches and hit philosophy
Is a 6 man rotation really necessary right now? Honestly Pallante has been sub-par so far. He's only had 2 really shitty games, but he's only had 2 really good ones, too. If you look at his numbers most of the time he's just meh. I'd be good with doing a hot swap with him and McGreevy. Give Pallante a list of stuff to work on and send him to Memphis. Find out what McGreevy has on a longer term basis, not just a spot start here and there. Figure out what HE needs to work on. This is a "retool" year according to the FO. Ok, let's find out what tools we have and make them sharper. Fedde, Mikolas and Matz are all gone next year. They are going to need BOTH McGreevy and Pallante in the 2026 rotation. I want both of them to be as sharp as possible. And hopefully there's another arm or two that'll be ready for at least bullpen duty next year.
I've been a member since the beginning 😂😂😂 just that my payment never went through as had a new debit card. Appreciate the shout out though as always ❤❤❤
They need to trade Walker for a quality pitcher and call up Saggese
McGreevy needs to take Mikolas spot
Something worth noting: the cardinals shut Baez down last summer, and placed him on the developmental list for maybe a month(?). Took him completely out of games and put him on the backfields with some of the instructors, working on his swing and swing decisions. So the seeds of this change – not just improvement, but a drastic change in the kind of hitter he looks to be – seems to have begun at that point. Or at least accelerated. Big win for the developmental staff.
McGreevy has been great this year in Memphis. 10 starts, 6-1 record, and in 50.2 innings he has 54 Ks.
A separate Down on the Farm vid. Nice. Enjoyed it
Walker is the latest in a series of prospects who had high batting stats at AAA and MLB to have their swing f'd with by the MLB coach who wanted more power only to trigger troubles for them. That demonstrates a disconnect between the farm system and the big league team goals for a player.
