Dallas Cowboys OTAs Winners And Losers Ft. George Pickens, Jack Sanborn, Tyler Guyton & Dak Prescott
As promised, we are back on the Cowboys report taking a look at some OTAA winners and losers. At least so far. There’s another public media session on Tuesday based on all the different reporting from the two open practices so far. Let’s begin with the first winner, Brian Shottimer. And we’ll go more in depth on this on a future video. Not sure when we’ll post it, but I’ve got the gist of it build. You know, this kind of just comes down to like everyone’s impressed by Shotti. Uh he’s been very big on the culture. I think there are some valid points to make like okay, but like everyone said it was a good coach under McCarthy. Now it’s suddenly like good actually. It seems a bit repetitive, but the players clearly buy in and that’s what matters this at this time. There is really not that much we can actually judge Brian Shottenheimimer on right now. But the interaction with the players, how he handles himself in the media, the coaching staffs, coaching staff he’s hired so far, all of that is part of it. And so far, it’s been good. The stuff that’ll really deter if he’s a good coach or not, we don’t know yet. But I’ll give him stock pointing upward so far. So, what is your confidence level in Brian Shotimer? I want you to be honest here. If the answer’s if the answer’s low, I get it. If it’s was this, now it’s higher, I get that, too. 1 to 10 is your scale. Let’s put Dak Prescott on here, too. Mostly because he’s been a pretty much a full participant. Now, it is the two open media sessions. The conspiracy theory person, Michael, he hasn’t done anything on the outside of ones, just the ones he’s been at because he’s not healthy, but he’s done the full a lotment of reps with the the in seven on seven, 12 on 12 with the ones, etc. as we’re in the OTAA period. The only thing he’s not cleared for yet is contact, which there isn’t contact right now. So, that will happen in time whenever there is contact, which I guess technically really isn’t until like August because they’re not going to do a lot of it in July anyway. But, by all accounts, it looks healthy to have the second kid should be coming here any day if it’s not already. Uh, they surprised media by doing so much at the first OTAA. kind of always thought that was going to be the plan, but either way, it’s a win. Let’s go to Tyler Gayton, the offensive tackle. And again, Brian shot, as we mentioned yesterday, going out of his way to offer some praise for Gayton with what he’s done so far. He said, “I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Tyler Gayton. He’s having a terrific off season. He’s working his ass off. He looks great. I think some of the things that Clayton Adams currently have really have broadly fit him from a technique standpoint. He has not missed a day. He was one of the first guys back in the building. He knows how important this year is for him. Looks great playing at a high level. If you don’t want to buy the Genon hype, look, I get it. I I kind of want to see it when things actually happen because he kind of started off pretty good at camp last year and then kind of faded as the year went along. But a true Tyler Gayton breakout, even if he’s not an instant top 15 left tackle, but if he’s just a serviceable starter or top 15 tackle overall, maybe if he can just be a good starter and the arrows pointing upward the entire year, even though there will still be some mistakes, he’s a tackle. It happens. A true Tyler Gayton breakout would be one of like the best possible breakouts of any Cowboys player. Like maybe we’ll do a full video on like here’s the guy you most want to break out. Isn’t Gayton like in that top three at minimum? Like Dak returning to form from 2023. Obviously, I think Gayton being a dude at left tackle would have one of the biggest possible impacts for this Cowboys team. This is not the first time Shotti’s mentioned praise for Gayton. He mentioned at the combine, too. He did it again uh on Thursday. Are you buying the buzz? It is optimism season after all. But why for yes, N for no? We’re going to add a new feature here on the Cowboys report. We’re gonna add at the quote unquote I’d be remiss tracker, which is when Shottenheimimer, it’s kind of his phrase of going out of his way to mention a player. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Tyler Gayton. I’d be remiss, he said, for not talking about Hunter Lipkkey. He’s playing some running back force. He’s playing some fullback. He’s playing some tight end. All he does is do everything well. Man’s making the team. I I I’m very curious what his role actually looks like on offense. I I kind of wanted him to get more involved in the passing game last year because he was actually pretty good when the tight end room was not having a pretty good type of season. I I think that when a coach goes out of his way to praise you, it’s probably something that should be paid attention to. Some more OTAA winners. Ca Elum at cornerback. This is not the first time this has happened, but he had another day of a past breakup on Thursday. This is just looking to stack days, stack positive reports. And every day we hear Elum pass breakup, elim pass breakup, multiple PBUs, you know, no downfield catches, work with the ones. That was all from, you know, the first day of training camp. It was pretty similar or from OTAAS. Pretty similar on on day two. He’s had strong showings. He’s looked good. Both of expectations. If they’re going to keep putting Don Bland in there at the nickel, you have to start Elum day one and maybe all year long. Former first round pick, maybe he did need a change of of scenery. We’ll see. But again, the the upward arc kind of is what we’re aiming for and that’s what we’re getting on that front. So, name a Cowboys organized team activity winner so far. Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Let’s talk younger tight ends. You know, Jake Ferguson obviously is going to be the number one. I heard Skoomaker had kind of a not so great drop on Thursday. Two different days, two different guys getting some praise. Brevin Span Ford had a really nice uh nice showing on the first open day of OTAAS. He’s in line to be tight end three. Princeton Fant keeps on fighting. This is kind of like there’s been a couple of these like former UDFAS. Jaylen Craropper is one. These guys just like fight and they always find a way to make some impact. He left day one of OTAAS, came back on day two, had a nice catch from Joe Milton as well. How about the Pickkins Lamb duo? And you know, I I am excited about them long term. I don’t think we’re going to get that much in terms of like how good they’re going to be together at OTAAS. I am getting some early like BFF vibes, like the way they’re kind of always doing things together. I think that that that is a good thing. And I give Lamb a lot of credit here. kind of sounds like he’s kind of taking Pickkins under his wing and like helping to support him and and being the guy in his corner, which I think you’ll want that at wide receiver, especially when there could be at some point maybe, who knows, you know, issues over who’s getting enough passes thrown their way. I, you know, there was the the note from Todd Archer that like, you know, Lamb dropped a good deep pass from Dak and did some push-ups and then Pickkins joined him. Okay, I think that that stuff probably like does matter for for locker room vibes, too. You want to have a good good locker room. has been a big deal from Shottnheimimer. I think as if those two are getting along well, that actually probably leads to a lot of good things for your offense. Kenneth Murray can can be a a mention on this list, too. But I’m going to go with Jack Samborn to wrap things up on the winner side. He’s been getting first team reps at linebacker over Maurice Leafoul along with Kenneth Murray and some of those two down packages, two down linebacker packages, excuse me. Um, that matters to me. I I am I don’t know how the linebacker room is going to sort out. I don’t think anyone really knows how it’s all going to sort out. But if Sambourne’s involved, that’s probably a good thing. I think he’s an underrated player. I likes him. You need a linebacker, if not two, to really emerge and kind of break out before Oversh. Maybe Sanborn can be one of them. Now, we will have more Cowboys OTAA and mini camp videos. That’s not too far away either. So, don’t miss out. Hit that sub button right now. I’ll go light on the loser side. There’s really not that much to complain about, but Micah hasn’t always been here. And the contract is a big issue. And Micah will instantly become an offseason winner once he gets paid. I think that happens. I have very few doubts it happens. It’s just annoying. It hasn’t yet. And we’re going to have to have a mini storyline of does Micah show up? Okay, he showed up. Does he participate? Is it a hold ini situation? That again becomes a major national media story and they’re going to do trade nonsense around it. And I kind of don’t want to. I’d like to just have it done and taken care of. Even the ners who have been in the same boat the Cowboys have been for years learned, oh, let’s just pay and KD and Fred Warner. You do it, Dallas. Come on. So, name a Cowboys OTAA loser so far. Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Next up, some of your hurt guys. This is probably not an all-encompassing list, but guys that are still working their way back from injury. So, Sam Williams sounds like he’s pretty close. I think of all the guys on this list, has the best chance outside of probably Donovan Wilson, who I think just had like some offseason cleanup stuff. Um, not too worried about Wilson there. I think he’s got the best chance to be clear day one of training camp. I think that’s the goal for Williams. That’s been almost a full year, so kind of makes some sense. Revel I think is on a pretty good path but again got to wait and see. Josh Butler is still uh recovering. Demarian Overshon is I’m hoping for Thanksgiving. That that’s his goal I think is to play the Thanksgiving game. Uh maybe you know come back a little bit sooner. We’ll see. Doubt he’s ready for week one. Diggs is not uh doing any rehab group work. He’s rehabbing on his own but he’s also banged up too. So yeah, low hanging fruit but you’re not involved. It kind of stings a little bit. Final loser is the cadence apparently. Uh, sounds like they’re going to change it. Don’t know what yet it’ll be. Um, but you know, John Mashota mentioning it sounds like Shotti’s going to he’s better to press conference too. They might change the cadence. So, no more here we go. Which matters more for you than me. I got the headset on when I’m calling the games. I don’t hear it actually very much because and then when I rewatch it, I’m doing it on the 22, so I’m not hearing it either. Uh, but new cadence and we’ll see how that plays out. I think that’s you probably want to have some semblance of change in the cadence overall. Just keeps things fresh. uh confuses defenses a little bit. Um and Shotty made, I think, a good point about like making it so the backups sound like Dak, too, so it doesn’t confuse the offensive line. But kind of sounds like that’s the end of the here we go cadence from Dak.

Are you buying the Tyler Guyton buzz? Type ‘Y’ for Yes, ‘N’ for No
Hey bro be careful with that low hanging fruit reference pertaining to a black players
Oline play,,,
ESPECIALLY at the LT position, is absolutely VITAL for D4K Prescott returning to form
And equally
DLine play is vital for the Back-7 to stay clean and fill gaps/LBs, and generate PBUs and turnovers/DBs
As a fan if we can't bring a DEFENSE with this schedule by Thanksgiving because it gets cold ❄️🥶
Was 5 now it feels like a 9 so I can live with him being a 7. Kinda like the women I find lol
8 so far
N
I rate a 5 on the coach and the quarterback.
Pickens gone resign
Honestly we need a veteran left tackle give him more time that's not a easy position to learn in 2years
7
He said the same shit for Guyton and Luepky but you doubt one and not the other? Put yourself in Guyton’s shoes. I’d be looking for you if I were him
7 or 8 for confidence for schotty
Y

6.5
-1 ,but he wasn't on everyone else's radar for a reason!!!!!!
N
Just make him a TE and get on with it!!!!!
Said this before, everyone looks good in shorts but when the pads come on,they all disappear.😳😬😲😡🤬😠
5
7 on Brian
I'd like to see Luepke become the next MOOSE
Ceedee saying I'm not trying to compete with you I'm trying to eat with you team work brother
Guyton undoubtedly would be #1 breakout player
I like most of Tom's narratives but the Guyton narratives are without perspective. Guyton had on 9 games at tackle in college and at right tackle at that. Place in in a situation with an antiquated line coach that didn't develop him. Guyton will be very good this year.
