MLB LIVE🔴 Texas Rangers vs St. Louis Cardinals – May 30, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. Inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers. First pitch coming your way next. Texas Ranger just about set to go. And towing the slab in this one, Nathan Evaldi. Base runners are tough to come by with him out there, Chris. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his quab. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. 0 and2 now and that’s in the dirt. Very high with that one. Two balls, two strikes. Now this is in the air down the line. Ozuna sizes this one up. Squeezes it. One away. Now we take a check of the St. Louis Cardinals lineup. This is a good offense, Chris. You’re going to get quality at bats and balls put in play consistently with this group. And it doesn’t really matter who they’re facing on the mound. they have the ability to go out and compete and win ball games. Um, if it’s an All-Star or Sai Young award winner to just a rookie up in the big leagues. So, when you have that, you have a chance to win every night. If I was a pitcher on this team, I’d feel pretty good about taking the mound for him. Mason Win in the box with one away as he takes ball one. [Music] That one pushed foul. Well, he got challenged with a good fast ball right there. Just couldn’t catch up. That one off the mark now. Two balls in a strike. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. One out. Base is empty. Fast ball for a strike. I mean, that’s perfect location right on the black. I mean, over and over again, this guy demonstrates the ability to hit those spots that are so tough to do anything with as a hitter. Struck him out swinging. blew the express right by his bat for strike three. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. And that clips the inside corner. Herrera will handle the catching duties in this one. 24 years old and he was born in Panama. Two out. Space is empty. And that one fouled off and that’s in the dirt now. One and two. And that one missing low. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and it’s a three up, three down inning. One, two, three go to Cardinals. And now the Rangers will get their shot in a scoreless ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back in Arlington. And now here’s the starter for St. Louis, Steven Matz. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. We go to the bottom of the first and the batter will be the shortstop. Josh Smith missed inside with the curb. Swing and a ground ball out to short. One gone. Bottom half of the first. And now we take a look at the Rangers lineup. And with their ace on the mound today, they’re just looking to provide him a little bit of run support and they’ll see what they can do for him. Boo, you have to be really careful when you’ve got a guy like this on the mound for you to not become a spectator. You know that he doesn’t give up a whole lot, but sometimes guys get a little too comfortable and don’t have an urgency to score runs. You have to make sure you put him in a situation where he can get the W, but also you guys can cruise to the finish line and not have to worry about a comeback in the end. Next offering misses down and away and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. You know, this is a good time to step out of the box, take a deep breath, reset. Couple of change ups. Probably won’t see another one here. One down. Base is empty. Almost got him. Two strikes. Caught him looking for the K. Oh, that’s almost just not fair with that pitch. I mean, until the very last second looked like it was going to be well in off the plate, but the armside run brought it right back to catch the inside corner. Tell you what, frustrating as a hitter, you give up on the pitch. I honestly don’t know what you’re supposed to do with that as a hitter other than just tip your calf as you walk back to the dugout. Josh Young stands in with two away as he takes a ball. and foul ball. The 1-1 ball two. Two balls, one strike. That’s a little bit low. [Music] [Music] Got him looking. Rangers go down in order. Nothing doing for the Rangers. We played an inning, no score. Back at Globe Life Field. And now here’s the veteran DH Wilson Contreras. Ivaldi back to work. Splits the plate and that’s strike one. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Swings and misses. No balls, two strikes. It looked like that curveball backed up on him. And although it’s a mistake, it works out really good for the pitcher. The hitter has timed it up. expects it to be to a certain spot and it just doesn’t get there. That misses the zone. Now one and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. [Music] just off the inside corner and the count is even. Two and two. And there’s the ball. Three and two. Foul ball and it remains a full cow and he walked him and that’s their first base runner of the game. Oh, a breaking ball in that 3-2 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now. just couldn’t find the strike zone. Now at the plate, Alec Burlson close but called a ball and it’s one and0. Contrarus gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Next pitch is downstairs. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. There’s the strike. Next offering is fouled back. Rudder at first with no outs here. Next offering misses and now three and two. These first two hitters really making him work out there. Already 14 pitches this inning. And ball four to a board. That is it. First and second, no outs. Here’s Nolan Aronado. This to third and he can’t come up with it. Still slings it to second. High throw to first and he can’t reach it. And this ball’s going to wind up out of play. So a big time costly mistake there. Here’s Nolan Gorman taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Swing and a foul out of play. One out, a runner at second here in the top of the second, makes the sliding stop over to first. And that’s a great play for the out. As an infielder, you have to be ready for anything. In that spot, it required going to the ground, getting a little dirty, and making a strong throw for the out. Great play, Jordan Walker. Next up for the Cardinals, swinging a ground ball up the middle, slings to first. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. One run on no base hits. An error and one man left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Cardinals one and the Rangers nothing. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the second. And now it’s Jake Burgerer to hit. Swinging a foul straight back. And now it’s even up. That’s down and in. He got two balls, one strike. That one misses and now three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Swing and a ball popped in the air. And that’ll fall for a base hit. So a runner aboard to start the inning. That is the left fieldielder. So next to hit for Texas, Alejandro Ozuna. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. Well, this guy’s definitely a plus runner. But what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. It’s guys like that, even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base pads. That’s inside. And that’s ball one. Mike Filillmore, our played umpire, very consistent with his zone. Chris, gets a lot of praise for that. He does, Boog. And I think that with any umpire, you really just want them to be consistent. Filmore’s a guy that does a good job back there in that way. So, people around the league really appreciate his consistency. Swings and misses at the pitch off the plate. Two strike. Big time jam right there. I hate it as a hitter, but standing in center field, you can’t help but chuckle a little bit. The one, two, swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field and it falls. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Two consecutive base hits for this team. Pitch was in and off the plate. So hard to do anything with a pitch in that location, but somehow he got the barrel to it and hit it well. Pretty amazing. Next up for Texas, Adoleis Garcia. And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. [Applause] Tying run and scoring position. Bottom half of inning number two. Swing in a miss. There’s that change up. One ball, two strikes. [Music] and just misses with that one. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets off. Three balls, two strikes. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Goes down looking. Now here’s the Rangers. DH Jonah, a switch hitter batting right. That one is absolutely belted way back there. Caught just shy of the wall. Runner tags at second and he moves up a base. So two away with runners at the corners. Here is Marcus Simeon. Keep an eye on this at bat because even though it’s early, it could change the outcome of this game. Look for your pitch and attack it. And the first offering is not close. That one missed. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. And another ball. Kyle Higashioa in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. And they’re all loaded up. This came apart right there. four pitch walk and guy at the play was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of his own. Kyle Higashioa stepping in for the Rangers. Bounding ball here. Rolls foul. in for a strike. And now just one pitch away from surviving the inning. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Base hit. One run is in. Two runs are in. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team [Music] win. Josh Smith stepping in for the Rangers. grounded out his first time off on the ground to third and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over but two runs for him and they jump ahead. We play two full. It’s the Rangers two and the Cardinals won. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now, Victor Scott, we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it, but pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris. It’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Foul ball there. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. just really impressive because there’s certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Next offering is in for a strike and a foul ball. He stays alive. [Music] One, two. Now in the air out towards right center. Langford sizing this one up. Pulls it in and there’s one away. Back to the leadoff spot in the St. Louis lineup. Now the left fielder, Lars Nbar. He’s 0 for one. And that one just missed off the outside edge. Next pitch is outside. line drives to short and caught. That’ll drive you crazy as a hitter if you let it. I mean, he could have hit that ball more on the screws than he did and yet he’s got nothing to show for it. Hang with him. I know the feeling. And up next for St. Louis, Mason Win. His first at bat was a strikeout. That’s in for a strike. That big curve inside, a pitch that can buckle you a little bit. Looks like a fast ball out of the hand and then just drops over that inside part of the plate. Two down. Doan fights it off. He’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Got it. It could work there as he gets a one, two, three. Nothing doing for the offense that time. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Rangers two and the Cardinals one. Back in Arlington at the plate, Wyatt Langford. [Music] The pitch hit on the ground to the right side and he takes it himself for the out. Good sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for. Ball on the ground. Nice ground out. Here’s Josh Young. Struck out looking his first time. [Music] Hit in the air left field. Newbar makes the grab for the second half. The first baseman number 21, Jake Burgerer stepping in for the Rangers. Singled scored his first time. Ball one low. [Music] That’s inside. Inside ball two in the dirt. And that’s ball three. [Music] That’s ball four. tried another sinker but couldn’t find a zone. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Ozuna in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. That one the other way and foul ball. One ball, two in the dirt. Blocked and down on strikes he goes. He’s notched four strikeouts now. One left for Texas as they’re unable to add to their 2-1 lead. Back at Globe Life Field, start of the fourth. And now the catcher comes up to him. Ivon Herrera. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. Has been incredibly efficient in this one. first pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. You know, these cards done a great job, Boog, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there, and that might be the best news yet for this offense. outside low. And now two balls and two strikes. And there’s the ball. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Got him. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. I love to see guys compete. And I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch. You see it so well, but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity, man. It is hard to catch up to. Here comes Wilson Contrarus. He walked and came around to score his first time up. And there’s the strike. 0 and1 Contrarus in his ninth season, 32 years old, and he’s usually a first baseman, but today he’s the designated hitter. One down, base is empty. And that one fouled [Music] off. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Here’s the O2 fans. Another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. So, two down now. And here is Alec Burlson. Worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. Ball one on no strikes. The Cardinals hitless so far in the game. Swing and a miss. Looked off balance that time. One ball, two strikes. Swing and a highf fly ball to left. Ozuna puts it away and that is that and we’re back. Now it’s the right fielder Adoleis Garcia. [Music] That’s in there. That’s strike one. He’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. Next offering is down low. Well, these Rangers showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. And the lefty kicks, delivers. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that’s what leads to the strikeout. He makes the catch and there’s two down. He put a really good swing on that pitch and hit the ball hard. You know, line drives won’t always find a hole, but the more you can hit the ball like that with good exit VLOO, the better off you’re going to be in the long run. Simeon the next to hit takes ball one. Action in the pen down there. Sunny Gray getting ready to go. Palante getting loose as well. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Ouch. That one drilled him. On the run, throw to first. Safe at first and an infield single keeps the inning going. And now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. So, two down. Kyle Hagioa stepping in for the Rangers in there at the knees. That’s strike one. Two outs. And there’s a foul ball. [Music] spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. Simeon off of first with two away. Step off, throw to first. Simeon back in. Foul ball still 0 and two. [Music] And that one hammered way back there. Fair ball coming around third is Simeon. He’ll score and they take a two-run lead. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Here comes a manager out of the Cardinals dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Steven Matz departs and a decent effort considering he’s normally a reliever. Back with the new pitcher in a minute. Sunny Gray gets the call from the pen and that’s a big potential run out there at second as he comes in trying to keep the deficit where it is. For the infielders, they got to be thinking about keeping the ball from getting by them into the outfield any way they can. So, the Rangers batting order turns over. Josh Smith stepping in for the Rangers. He’s grounded out a couple of times. That one almost got him. Two outs and one in scoring position. That one clips the outside corner and the count even at one in the air fairly deep to right field. That is the inning. Rangers get one on the RBI double and this is now a 31 ball game. And welcome back to the ballpark. New inning getting started now. Here is Nolan Aronado. Ivaldi back to work. Late swing fouled off. You know, these Cardinals, they’re not going to be happy with the at bats they’ve been having so far. Still no hits on the board for them. And of course, a lot of credit goes to the man on the mound for that. But we’ve definitely seen some lifeless trips to the plate as well. Sometimes all it takes is one hit. So, we’ll see if they can break through and get something going. Slow roller to third and they get Aronado for the out. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. And a ground ball to first and it stays fair around first. Digging for two. Throws to second, but he’s in there easily. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. I know that was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know, they used to say charge it crazy. One out, runner at second. And now the right fielder Jordan Walker 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. Outside low ball one. Counts one and over. So man into scoring position. And now the tying run comes to the plate. And we’re at the top of the fifth. And another ball. Two and0. And a foul ball. Makes the count. Two and one. Man at second. And that one is inside. You got it. Line drive. Base hit. Gorman headed for the plate now. A long throw home. Save. In comes the run from second. It’s 32. Picks himself up an RBI. Just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field. There’s a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate. Doesn’t come naturally for most hitters. And now Victor Scott fly to center his first time. He’s 0 for one and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. One man at first, one away. swings through that one out in front that time. The two strikes may see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. And now one and two. [Music] Outside corner. Got him looking. Well, he throws him with a great fast ball right on the corner. It’s kind of like bowling when you think the ball’s going to get into the gutter and somehow just hangs onto that edge and knocks down a pin. Well, he got the outside corner of the plate and got that called third strike. Next to hit, Lars Nbar for two in this one. And ball one. the one outside. No strike. Walker off of first with two away. Just missed. Well, I would expect in this three-0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. Mason Win in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Music] Next offer is in for a strike. 32 two out run on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. So now two on and two outs. Pitch count’s getting up there now. And not saying that’s the reason for this walk, but this is the point in the game when every sign of wavering starts to get everyone’s attention. Win in the box, lays off for ball one. First and second, two down. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. [Music] That crosses the plate and now they’re just one strike away from getting out of this mess. lined into right and that’s down. A base hit to the plate. It’s 33. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Go ahead run on base. And here’s the catcher, Ivon Herrera, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Two on, two outs. This one in the air. Burger drifts towards it and that’s the third out. They get two and draw even again. Home half of the fifth coming up. All tied up at three apiece. Back in Arlington. And now the center fielder Wyatt Langford. Come on. Just missed. Ball one. No strikes. The other way and that’s a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. That can be a really tough pitch to handle, a front door breaking ball, but he did a great job staying in there, keeping that front shoulder closed. He didn’t spin off the ball and hook it foul, which happened so many times. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. So up next, Josh Young. Sunny Gray checks on the runner. Langford back on a dive. Pitch misses there and that is ball one and a strike on the outside edge. Came a little frustrated with the strike zone. popped up first base side. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s one down. The first base number 21. Now it’s going to be Jake Burgerer. [Applause] outside low and that’s ball one. Craig checks on first and he dives back in safely. That’s the third bear ball. Lenford rounds third headed for the plate. Relay throw. He will score. The Rangers take the lead. It’s four to three. Man, he just absolutely turned on that one. Ripped it down the line. Nice job of staying in his mechanics. One down. Alejandro Ozuna will hit next. One for two and that is in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. One out and a runner at second. Last half of inning number five. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Now it’s the right fielder, Adoleis Garcia. The rightiel Adis Garcia. And a foul ball. Man on second, two down. Slides, but he can’t come up with it. Doesn’t stop. Heads for home. The throw is at line and he’s in to score. It’s 53. Well done. Drives in the run. I really like that swing, man. He didn’t just push it the other way through the infield. He drove it that way and it kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box. Got a pitch he liked and he got it done. So now the DH spot Jonah and first offering is fouled off. Garcia the runner at first with two gone out of the ground to third. They take the force out. That’s the inning. They get two runs on three hits. No errors and one left. We’re through five. It’s the Rangers five and the Cardinals three. Back at Globe Life Field, all set for the start of the inning. Here’s Contrarus now. So, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shut down inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Swings through the fast ball up in the zone. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Caleb Bosley appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut when warming up as well. Just off the inside edge. That one found hard the other way. Now a screamer into the outfield. That’s a fair ball and it’s getting into the corner. Throws to second and that’s a leadoff double. Nice line drive to the pole side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. That’ll be it for Nathan Evaldi and he leaves with the lead after giving them some decent innings. We’ll be back with a new pitcher in a moment. Jack Lighter taking over on the mound. Pretty big spot he’s coming into trying to strand that runner at second base. So, he’s going to need to make some quality pitches. He does have first open if he needs to use it. Runner in scoring position, no outs. And now Alec Burlson. And that is out of play. with the tying run at the plate. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And a curve ball is just outside. [Music] Two-1 in the dirt. 2-2 now and a swing and a miss. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strike out and there’s one away. Well, when you commit to throwing an inside fast ball to your glove side across the strike zone, especially with two strikes, if you’re going to miss, you want to miss off the plate in. You do not want to leave it out over the heart of the plate. So, that was excellent execution on that pitch. Really tied him up and he couldn’t get a piece at all. So, now it’s Dolan Aronado tap foul at the plate. off the plate inside and the count is one and one. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Contras headed home. Here’s the throw to the plate. It’s offline. The run comes in and it’s now 54. Well, back within one as he brings home the run. Just one of those seen high base hits through the infield. He just kind of rolled over on it a little bit, but sometimes those can find a hole and get you a knock. One gone runner at first. Nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals. fouled off. He was [Music] late. One-run game, one out, one on. And that’s off the outside edge. One and one. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike, 02 Cal. Instead, it’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. That one misses and that’s ball two. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Right back to the mound. Could be an easy two. Run at second over to first. That’s two. Nicely done. 163. And that will end the inning. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s down to one at 54. And we’re back. Bottom of the six. Now it’s the second baseman, Marcus Simeon. For Marcus Simeon, probably the biggest adjustment and improvement he’s made has been on defense. Simeon made 35 errors as a short stop in 2015 with the Athletics. And by the time 2021 came around, he won a gold glove at the Blue Jays. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Kyle Ley preparing to come on if needed. on the ground. Aronado zips it across. Leadoff man retired in the six. Here’s the catcher, Kyle Hagashi. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the six. That one missing inside. Looks like he was trying to get to the front door with that curve ball. It’s definitely a finesse pitch, but it backed up a little bit on him and stayed inside. One down, base is empty. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Swings and miss has struck him out. And now Josh Smith 0 for three in this one. right through there for a strike. Well, at bat can be a little bit of a dance. Strike one here, but few more pitches. We’ll see how it turns out. Rips that one to right. Walker makes the catch and that’ll do it. Three up, three down for him. There we’re through six full. It’s the Rangers five and the Cardinals four. New pitcher on now, Caleb Bosley. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different, so we’ll see what he’s got here. Well, one-run game. And now here is Jordan Walker. and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. And I know you want to be patient as a hitter, but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight. And he got one right there, but left the bat on his shoulder on the ground out to short. Sneaks through base head. off to a good start with a leadoff nod. Well, that was an important at bat in this game. So, a great job there stepping up to the challenge. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. No outs. Runner at first. Victor Scott now at the plate. There’s the strike. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. [Music] ripped to third and caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Here’s the left fielder, Lars Nukebar. They hope he’s the guy to spark a comeback. He tends to play better when his team is behind. So why not him? That’s hard hit on the line. He’s got it. Two away. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. Now up for St. Louis, Mason Win. [Music] Bosley, 31 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. The shorts stop takes the ball. Next offering upstairs. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. There’s the strike. with the tying run on at first here in the top half of inning number seven. Swing at a high-fly ball. Well struck. That one back. That’s down. One hops off the wall. Here comes Walker and he scores and this game is tied in the seven. huge at bat to bring home the tying run at this point in the game. Great hands on that swing to take the inside pitch and drive it into the gap for the double. It’s easy to spin off a pitch like that Boo and can pull that thing foul, but that was perfect. A chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run. So runner at second, two down and now the Cardinals catcher Ivon Herrera. That one misses one and0. [Music] Swinging a ground ball, rolls across the diamond. They limit the damage here. Cards on the board with this double. All even at five a piece. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Phil M. And he’s got a big time breaking ball to contend with. Hitters going to have to pick it up early if they’re going to have any chance. So digging in, Wyatt Langford, one for three. [Music] [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone and misses inside. That one is upstairs. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. There’s the strike and the count is three and [Music] one down the line. And that lands in no man’s land. A foul ball. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Clearly looking out over the plate on that outer third and that pitch finished right down the middle. Just a little bit in and he couldn’t pull the trigger. Up next for the Rangers, Josh Young. And that misses and it’s one and0. You can expect this hitter to be looking for something on a T. He can get up in the air and untie this ball game. Slapped foul. [Music] Hit pretty well in the air. Out to center. Scott under it. pulls it in and there’s two away. Now, first base. And now the first baseman, Jake Burgerer. In there at the knees. Ball one there. On its way to the corner. Nobody can get there and it’s a foul ball. Come on, let’s go. That one not close and it’s two and two. That’s inside. Alejandro Ozuna in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the seventh. And the swing and a miss and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Rangers go down quickly there. This ball game still tied five all. We’re in the top of the eighth. Wilson Contrus now up to the plate. Bosley back to work. close but called a ball. Ball one. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike [Music] zone line and a base hit into right. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. Go ahead run on base. And here’s the first baseman, Alec Burlson. The bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. One’s the count. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. line drive. There’s one. He’s out. Back to first. And that is a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Here’s Nolan Aronado. First pitch misses. Two down. Do and a foul ball. Next pitch misses and it’s two and one. That one missed. Nolan Gorman would be next. Big bat with a potentially huge opportunity. Two outs. Swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. Ozuna right there to make the grab. And that is that pitching. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Kyle Ley. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers, so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. Ozulli in the box now. Takes strike one. Little bit low. Two balls, one strike and fouled off. Still two and two after the foul ball. that one 95 to finish him off. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Adoleis Garcia stepping in for the Rangers. A little bit high. All one. [Music] All tied up here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. And another ball activity in the bullpen. Andre Palante, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. And a foul ball makes the count. Two and [Music] one. Swinging a foul out of play. [Music] Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Very strong coming out of the pin so far as he punches out the first two batters he’s faced in this one. Getting straight to work. Man, it’s talked about a lot, but relievers are just so electric these days. He’s having fun at bats if you’re a hitter. And I’m so glad I’m retired. So next to hit for Texas, Jonah to third. Aronado slings it across. Three up, three down. Inning over. Nothing doing for the Rangers and this remains a five ball game. [Music] Welcome back. And here comes the closer Luke Jackson. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tried to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. So digging in, Nolan Gorman. the second base. No lane. He was late there. Strike one. Well, a come and give me fast ball right there. He didn’t look ready for the velocity. I think it’d be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here. That one well upstairs and it’s one and two. That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. Breaking ball inside and the count’s full. Jordan Walker in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt up with it to first. Got him. Went away on the strike out. That’s a pretty nasty pitch right there. I call it a power curveball in the 80s. It’s got so much spin on it and you really don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it’s going to do before you have to commit. It was a good one for the swinging strikeout. Pinch hitter coming on Brendan Donovan. Well, they’re going with the lefty bat here. Boo. Trying to improve that matchup for a very important at bat in this game. That misses the zone and that’s ball one. And downstairs, bullpen action for the Rangers. Shawn Armstrong up and throwing. Quinn also throwing. Base is empty. One away here at the top of the ninth. And that drops in for a strike. Out to short. Jump throw and he gets him. Nicely [Applause] done. Here’s the center fielder, Victor Scott. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. There’s the strike back door him with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. In the dirt and it’s one and one. in there at the knees for a strike. Nothing but curve balls so far in the at kind of makes it difficult as a hitter to know what to look for because you start wondering if they keep coming with it or if they’ll try to speed you up. The count is full on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So they make short work of him there. 891 to up in the bottom of inning number nine. We’re all tied up 55. back for the bottom of the ninth and they’ll go with a pinch hitter to get it started. Ezekiel Duran, he represents the winning run. first offering and it just misses. Swing and a tapper then rolls fouled. Late swing, fouled. All and now two and two. Wow, that’s a tough pitch to lay off. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, we see it a lot more these days than we ever did when I played, but a slider in the 90s still catches your attention even if you’re sitting on the pitch. Good luck recognizing that tight spin and adjusting to the late break. Now the catcher for the Rangers, Kyle Hagashio. And that one fouled [Music] off. And that is out of play. [Music] And it skips in there. [Applause] Uh-oh, that got him. And the potential winning run is aboard. So up next, Josh Smith. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One. Misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. And another ball. Wyatt Langford in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. One down. Winning run onto first. Ball four. He walked in. And that’ll keep the line moving. He’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound, but you know, his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this, but he’s going to have to buckle down right here. Langford in the box now. Takes strike one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Swings and misses. The count is 0 and two. Winning run stands at second. Swing and a miss. Struck him out of the slider and there’s two gone. Well, when you throw the same pitch back to back, that’s how you want to do it. Set him up in the strike zone, then extend a little bit from there and see if you can get him to chase. Nicely done with the slider right there. Next up for Texas, Josh Young clips the corner. Strike one. winning run and scoring position with two away. Right through there for a strike. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Trying to send this to extra innings. lays out. Oh, it’s off his glove. Now he gets it to the pitcher covering the bag and they come away with an out after a tricky start to the play. Rangers leave a pair. Our score holds at five apiece. Now into the game, Sam Hagerty, he’ll play second. Now playing second base. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. And here’s the St. Louis leadoff man, Lars Nbar, and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Oh, and one. Here’s the pitch. Runner on the move. There’s the ball. Throw to third. Save. And the go-ahead run is now only 90 ft away. I’d say an aggressive roll to the dice there to steal third in this spot, but they felt good about it and it worked out. Now the game plan changes a little bit at the play to get that go ahead run home. The defense might pull the infield in. And that one upstairs in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. Next pitch is outside. swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Makes the grab. Runner tags for home. Play of the play safe and they take the lead. In that situation, you’re looking to get something up in the zone that you can put in the air. Worst case scenario, a sacrifice fly to drive in that runner from third. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Mason Win. Foul ball. One down. Base is empty. Just off the outside edge. And one and one. Movement in the bullpen. Shawn Armstrong getting loose out there. Milner a left-hander also throwing. [Music] Next offer is in for a strike. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Got him. Outside pitch. Nothing better of him that time. [Applause] Two down. Base is empty. And up next for St. Louis, Ivon Herrera. That’s down and in. Two down. Base is empty, but one run across here in extra innings. Right through there for a strike. One and one. And it’s fouled away. [Music] Two down. Nobody on. That’s way outside and the count’s even at two. And that one missing low. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of the 10. And that’s ball four. Perfect. Exactly what they needed him to deliver there. A quality at bat. Now the pressure’s on to find a way to get him home. Bet at first and up to hit is Wilson Contrarus. He swings and fouls one off. Here leads off first with two down to the inning. Swing and a base hit. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Luke Jackson done for the night and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. So, out of the bullpen for the Rangers, Shawn Armstrong. He’s been so good against lefties. Now up for St. Louis, Alec Burlson. Down and away for ball one. Ball one, no strikes. First and second, two down. And here in extra innings, there’s the strike. One ball, one strike. And there’s a foul ball. Highfly ball out into left center field. Ozuna makes the catch and that is that one run in the inning, but they leave two. Last chance to even things up. We head to the bottom of inning number 10. It’s the Cardinals six and the Rangers five. Back now and on the mound the closer Brian Hley. Well, he’s been a bit of a wild card out there in terms of throwing strikes. He’s definitely struggled with free passes this year. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Burger getting ready to hit. Well, comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. I when you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their keep. So, the tying run at second. Little chopper rolls foul. And he pumps it. A strike. Outside corner. Got him looking. He can’t believe it. Well, the first batter, it’s always a big one for the closer. I mean, you get that punch out, you get settled in, you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that, you know, you’re going to wrap this thing up. Fought off foul with the tying run at second. winning run at the plate and the home team trying to pull it out. And a curve is down and in. I got a ball. One strike. [Applause] And that one almost got him. trying to close out a one-run lead and we’re in the last half of the 10th. [Applause] Just missed. That’s good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, get a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. [Applause] That one the other way. Aronado to first in time. And now one out remaining for Texas. Right fielder. And now the right fielder Adoleis Garcia trying to deliver as the hero. This one in the dirt and no movement on the bases. It’s ball one. Squirts away a little bit and the runner holds. Two and0 to Cal. Here it comes. It’s a little bit low. Not really attacking on the mound in this at bat. All breaking balls. So that makes me think they’re not really wanting to challenge him here. Jonah in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And there’s the automatic runner at second. Two down. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. This could end it. [Music] got him. And that’s the ball game. Well, this is a big win on the road and going extras into 10. Uh, so hard to pull those out, but I think this team did a great job of keeping the crowd out of the ball game late. When you can do that, it kind of calms everything down, keeps the adrenaline of the opposing team down a bit, and you can steal a win and get out of here happy. 65 the final here today. A oneun extra inning win for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shi saying so long. Stop it.
