MLB LIVE🔴 Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals – May 30, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Welcome inside Kaufman Stadium. MLB The Show has action out of the AL Central. It’s the Detroit Tigers going up against the Kansas City Royals. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. So almost ready to get underway and on the mound in this one, Daniel Lynch. Chris, what are you looking for from him? Well, that whip is just below the league average. And that’s a good thing in this case, not allowing too many base runners. So on most days, he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win. And I expect to see that from him in this one today. This one chopped on the ground but fouled. [Applause] That one just missing inside. And the count is one and two. Ball. Two and two. Swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Here’s Clayr Torres a little bit high and that’s ball one. Grounds one to short. Zips it to first. Two quick outs in the top of the first here tonight. Let’s take a check of the Tigers lines. A really frustrating showing for them in their last game. Lots of traffic on the bases, but they left a ton of runners on base. Couldn’t cash in their chances. Chris, they had plenty of chances. There’s nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively. They just did a poor job converting in those situations. You have to figure out what’s your plan going to be. Maybe watch some tape from the last game. Make the adjustments. So, if you get those opportunities in this one, you got a much better chance of scoring some runs. Colt Heat at the plate and takes high there. There’s the [Applause] strike. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Ray makes the grab on the run. We’re midway in inning number one. No score. back here in Kansas City. And starting in this one, Jack Flareity. Chris, he’s got the ability to take control of a game when he’s out there. Well, incredible mound presence and he’s going to attack hitters. You look at that strikeout per nine ratio over 10 coming into this start. So, he’s a pitcher that wants the ball. He’s aggressive. He knows that he can get the swing and miss, especially when he needs it most. We’ll see how this one swung out and hit well way back there. And that one is out of here. That should put a jolt into this home crowd. It’s one- nothing. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. Well, good. Clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now. I mean, that ball was so close to going foul. Would have been a long strike, but instead batter gets rewarded. Did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence. Now, here’s Bobby Whit Jr. Right through there for a strike. You know, Boo, this is a player with some serious speed. In 2023, he became the first player in 20 years to record two infield hits and an inside the park home run in the same game. [Applause] And that one fouled off. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. way outside. One and two to count and that’s in the dirt. [Applause] Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And that skips into the dirt. [Applause] And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. Batting third. And next up for the Royals, Benny Pasquantino. Pasquantino. And a foul ball. [Applause] line drive base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single right there. Does a great job of staying in the big part of the field. Man, there are a lot of hits there. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. Runner on the move. This one pops straight up near the plate. Pauls it in and there’s two away. Matt number. And here now the lineup for the Royals. And so far this year, this has not been a very good offense. Well, in this day and age, if you can’t slug and get on base, that OPS has to be at a certain level if you’re going to produce runs. Give your pitchers an opportunity as they’re facing tough offenses as well. Here’s the third baseman, Mike El Garcia. He’s going to finish with a new careerhigh in stolen bases, Chris. And a good fast ball to start him off at strike one. Pasquantino leads off first with two down to the inning. [Applause] Pop foul out of play off to the right. [Applause] Swings and miss has struck him out. The Royals get a run in the inning on this solo homer. It’s an early one- nothing lead. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Top of the second now. The left fielder Riley Green. Riley Green. Come on. Lynch back to work. Liner. And this could be trouble around first heading for two. And he starts off the second with a double. Really stayed true on that swing. It wasn’t an easy pitch. Lefty on lefty. Pitch was a little down, a little bit away, but he committed to it and his shoulder stayed square to the plate. Didn’t try to pull off that ball at all and that’s why it jumped off the bat. Spencer Torqulson up now for the Tigers in there with the knees. That’s strike one. [Music] [Applause] Come on, Daniel. And a swing and a miss. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double, a strike out. And there’s one away. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. And here is Wel Perez. [Music] line drive caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. Dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers. This lineup’s going to have to find a way to make him work a little harder out there on the mound. I mean, he is just mowing him down. He’s settling in. You got to make him uncomfortable. Maybe step out of the box, call timeout, do whatever it takes. [Music] Finish [Music] him. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against a swing and a miss. That retires the side and that’ll do it. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the Royals one and the Tigers nothing. Bottom of the inning. Up now for Kansas City. Waters. Drew Waters goes 6’1, 185 lbs, and he was a second round pick back in 2017 and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. And that one upstairs, ball one. Freddy Ferguson behind the dish calling the balls in strikes. One-1 now in the air left field down the line. Green flashes the leather on the run and catch. B and seven. The right fielder John Ray. Here’s the rookie right fielder John Ray trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. Fly ball to right. Carpenter carous it and there’s two down batting it. The second baseman Michael. Two outs. Base is empty. Now it’s the second baseman Michael Massie. And the first offering is not close. And that clips the inside corner. Two outs. Base is empty. Right side. And that chance handled. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. KC down in order. They lead it one- nothing. And we’re back. The batter will be the shortstop Trey Sweeney. Sweeney. First pitch misses. 10 on the corner for a strike. Swinging a miss. Now he’s in a one-two hole. Started in and ended up on the outside edge. just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. The lefty fires [Applause] that one missed missed with a change up and it’s three and two counts. and a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Just a great slider right there. And I think the key for pitchers and what hitters don’t want to see is if a pitcher misses with that pitch that he misses off the edge of the strike zone rather than in the middle of the strike zone. And right there, excellent execution and it finished up in a perfect spot. Here’s Bayz and a curve is down and in. If they did a poll of top tattoos in Major League Baseball, Jav Bayz, I think, would have to be in the top five. Right on the back of his neck is the Major League Baseball logo. So, it’s effectively right under the MLB logo that’s on his cap. Just missed. Two and0. And another ball. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. And a strike. Full count. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Cracks his bat and pops him up. Pasquantino snags it for the second out. The right fielder number 30, Terry Carpenter. Back to the top of the Detroit order. And now the right fielder Carrie Carpenter struck out swinging his first time. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left and a pop off right side. Foul territory. [Applause] Pasquantino makes the play and it’s out number three. No runs, no hits, no errors. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Royals one and the Tigers nothing. Set for the bottom of the third play for Kansas City. Kyle Isel is in there at the knees. Inside and the count is one and one [Music] and he pumps in a strike. Pinch misses. The countdown two and two. That one just misses. [Applause] Swinging a miss. and he struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. The batter number two. So the Royals batting order turns over. Jonathan Indie at the plate. He’s already homered in this game. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. One out. Base is [Music] empty. Swings and misses. And the count is 0 and2. Another 02 count right here. Pitcher just in the driver’s seat. He can go anywhere he wants to go right here. And that one is lifted in the air. Carpenter gets under it. He makes the catch and there’s two down. The batter number seven, shortstop, Bobby Witz Jr. Two down, base is empty. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Bobby Whit Jr. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Out in front with the swing. And that is strike one. 0 and one. Check swing tried to hold up. Now an appeal to first and no swing, says Joe McDonald. That’s a ball. Next pitch is outside. [Applause] And that’s too high. And it’s ball four. You can stomach a two out walk to certain players, but with his speed, this guy out there on the base pass, it could turn into two or three bases. Man at first, Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals. One for one with a single so far. Rudder takes off. Pitch in for a strike. Throw save. That’s a stolen base. man at second. Here’s a high-f fly ball out to center. Perez in position and that ends the inning. So, one left for Kansas City, but they hold a one- nothing lead. Back here at Koffman Stadium as we go to the top of the fourth. Glabber Torres up to hit. Good take by Torres. Well, these Tigers just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. There’s the strike. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand. And it remains two and two. [Music] swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Now that Here’s the second base. Colt Keith flyed to right his first time. swing and a base hit. Just kind of sliced that one into center. Up next for the Tigers, the left fieldielder. Here’s Riley Green. Doubled his first time up. Now he breaks his bat. And there’s two away. Now batt the first base Spencer Torlson. And now the first baseman Spencer Torqulson. He’s 0 for one [Applause] and the slider just misses. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So that’s a good take by him outside and it’s 2 and 0. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So I think the confidence level is raised right here. Late swing fouled off. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball and a foul ball. just off the outside edge. Full count three and two. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire and out there on the mound. Maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. Two outs. fouled off again and it remains three and two. Got him looking and that’s six Ks for him in this one. One left for Detroit and it remains one- nothing. [Applause] And welcome back to the ballpark. And here’s the catcher, Salvador Perez. [Music] [Applause] And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Oh, he’s looking great so far. It helps with over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. Turned on but foul wide of third. He’s been pitching well, but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order. We’ll know if he’s got really good stuff in this one or not. And a swing and a miss. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough if you’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. So, up next, Mikel Garcia. First pitch swinging. 01. Swing in a liner. Base hit out into right center field around first. Digging for two. The throw into second and he’ll make it safely. That’s a double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Drew Waters stands in fly to left his first time and takes low from ball one. [Applause] and that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Garcia leads off second with one gone in the inning. Fast ball the inside corner for a strike. That one fouled off. Ball full count. fouls that off to the left and we’ll do it again. [Music] And ball four to a board. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. Now, it’s the right fielder John Rae. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat, getting that first hit at the big league level. And that drops in for a strike. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. Liner caught at second. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact. And that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Now it’s the second base. Michael Massie over one so far. Michael Matthew. That one misses and that’s ball one. And now a little barking back towards the umpire. Clearly thought he got that outside corner on what was a pretty big pitch. Sometimes that only makes it worse for you moving forward, but it can also open up that location in the future if the umpire thinks there’s a chance that he missed it. Got it started a little too early. Strike one. One strike. flying drive and that’s a base hit into center field. The throw in, but it’s offline. It’s two nothing. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. First and second, two outs. And now it’s Kyle Isbel. And that’s downstairs. One and0 [Applause] just tough spot right here. Couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. [Applause] Misses with the 200 and he’s fired three straight outside the strike zone [Applause] and they’re all loaded up. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire bat. So the batting order turns over and now the DH Jonathan India. He’s already homered here in this one. Just off the inside edge. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Jackson Joe getting loose for AJ Hinch. Rebia also getting ready. on the ground to first. Torqulson steps on the bag that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. But they pick up one run on the RBI single and it’s two zip. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back here in Kansas City, top five, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Wel Perez. Lynch back to work. There’s a line drive to left field. Hauls it in. Three out. Number 14, Dylan. Here’s the catcher, Dylan Dingler. He was a strikeout victim his first time. The offense needs to start showing some fight against this starter. He’s doing his thing out there. They’re going to have to push back at some point and make him work a little bit harder. One down. Base is empty. Outside low and it’s a ball and a strike outside with a breaking ball. Base is empty. One away and we’re in the top of the fifth. Swings and misses or the count is even. Two and two. And those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that. He’s got to get a better pitch to hit. Got him looking. That’s a strike down. I don’t know about you, Chris, but that looked like a weird bat right there. Didn’t give much to hit until the final pitch and he still got the backwards K. Yeah, not a single pitch was actually inside the strike zone, but he was being very aggressive in the box and fell behind in the count. Then they finally do challenge him and he couldn’t get the bat off his shoulder. Kind of a strange strike out for sure, Bo. And now Trey Sweeney. That one the other way. Nice grab. He continues to roll on the mound as five shutout innings are in the books. It’s the Royals two and the Tigers nothing. And we’re back ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now it’s the shortstop. Bobby Whit Jr. Junior. Whit Jr. is one of only two players in ALNL history to have 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in each of his first two seasons. Boo. The other player, Julio Rodriguez. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Swing and a miss. Jack Flareity picks up the strike out. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically, he likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time a little anxious. Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals. One for two. had a breaking ball. Misses outside. Gets the outside corner with that one. Next offering is in for a strike. That slider breaking in can be a tricky pitch. If you don’t finish it and have that bite at the end and it stays out over the plate, it can get hit a long way. But that was a good one right there. Two two swing and a ball lifted in the air. Paris sizes this one up. Two away now. The paddic catcher Salvador Salvi steps into the box now for two in this one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Swing and a miss. Oh, with two now. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just got to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. And that just misses. That’s the ball. Two and two. got him looking and he didn’t like the call. Royals go down one, two, three as they’re unable to add to their two nothing lead back here at Kaufman Stadium. Now it’s Javier Bayzav singing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. that misses the zone. Ball one. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. [Music] The one-1 is fouled off. out to short tosses to first. Bayz gone on the play. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Pitch misses. One ball, one strike. The Tigers trailing by two. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Pitch misses there and a count. Two and one. [Music] [Applause] [Applause] hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Smash that one through the infield with a knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. Man at first with one gone. Here’s Glabber Torres. Fouled off down the right side. Now, these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Here comes the one. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Though play situation here, he’s been working up in the zone. Typically, you look for guys to get that ground ball. See if he adjusts on this next pitch. And that one is inside ball one. Man at first, one away. ball. Two and two. 3-2. Now he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going and ball four to a board. Well, this could be the start of something. They haven’t found a way to score yet, but now is their chance to change that. Here’s the second baseman, Colt Heath. His splits between April and May there. Come on. Fast for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Lined and that’s a base hit headed for the plate. One runs in and the throw’s offline safe at third and he’ll make it up to second as he advances on the throwing error. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Solid swing from start to end on time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension and he made it out front for the line drive. And a pretty good chance we can see a lead change here. At least a tie ball game with both of those runs in scoring position. Two on, one out. Riley Green up now for the Tigers. No. Slider misses outside. Just missed. Two balls, no strikes. One down. Runners at second and third. Next offering way upstairs feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Taylor Clark getting ready to go. Shrivever getting loose as well. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. And that’ll load the bases. Four pitches. That’s an easy walk, man. He could have walked me right there. Boo. The last one wasn’t even close. And the Royals manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Daniel Lynch will depart. Nice job from the reliever making a start today, but he does exit with the bases loaded. New arm on the mound in a minute. New pitcher in the game for the Royals, Michael Lorenz. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers. So, he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. And here’s the first baseman, Spencer Torqulson. Golden opportunity right here [Applause] in there for strike one. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. All loaded up. Dangerous hitter at the plate. That one’s in there. 0 and two. But he’s got ahead with two pitches down in the zone. He has plenty of options right here. He can go up. He can go away. He can add velocity. He can subtract. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. One runs in. Here comes the throw. Not in time. He’s safe at the plate. It’s 32. That’s a good jump right there. Got two strikes on. You just got to battle. First and second, one out. Wel Perez digs in now. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Music] fought off foul instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended. Tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Two on, one out. And that one fouled off. He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam. Knocks that one away and will do it again. Next one misses. Ball two. Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] Count is full in the dirt. Runners hold tight, but it’s a full count now. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Ground ball right side could be two. Massie to second. Throw to first, but he beat it. Number 13, Dylan Dingler. And next up for the Tigers, Dylan Dingler, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Right through there for a strike. Late swing fouled off. Finish him. [Applause] And that one is downstairs. And the count one and two. Runners on first and third. Two away. [Applause] bows it off. Still one and two towards first and that goes foul. That one off the mark. Two balls, two strikes. Two two. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Do next. Five foul balls in this at bat so far. And these two are going headto head. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. Two on, two outs. Ground ball right side. He steps on the bag. They limit the damage here. Three runs for him here and they move ahead. We go to the bottom half of inning number six and the 567 slots do up. It’s the Tigers three and the Royals two. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the six. Now the third baseman, Mikel Garcia. Just missed. Activity in the bullpen. Bo Briski, the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening. Vest the hardthrowing right-hander up as well. [Music] Swung on. Belted. The one hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. Safe at second with nobody out. And he represents the tying run. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So, no surprise he put a great swing on it. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. AJ Hinch makes another pitching change. Jack Flity won’t go any further tonight and he had to battle. Nothing came easy in this start, but he leaves with a lead. New arm when we get back now. Pitching for. So a lefty out of the pen. Tyler Hol. Well, he struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit perenning pitch so far this season. The batter now, Drew Waters. And that’s in for a strike and one. with the tying run at second here in the bottom of the six. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike [Applause] and ball one down. [Applause] out to short. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw and he reaches safely. First and second, no out. And next up for the Royals, John Ray. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. What you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate. Try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. [Applause] Pitch is in there. Strike one. He’s looking for a strikeout or a ball on the ground for a double play to sort of calm this situation down. Lined into right. makes the grab. The batter number 19, second baseman, Michael Massie. Michael Massie steps in for the Royals. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Poo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. And that’s a little bit high. And it’s one and0. Garcia at second. Waters over at first. So one away. That one outside. And now two and0. [Applause] [Music] Pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss. Third foul ball of a year. The two- two on the way. Fights it off. He’ll see another [Applause] [Music] spoils that one and it remains two and two. Well, having such a tough time putting him away. Six foul balls in a row. Man, what a battle. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. 2-2 on the way. went with the sweeper, but it misses. Kyle Isel in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact [Applause] here. The kick, the 3-2, maybe a two ball. Five, four, three. It’s a double play and that’ll do it for the inning. Poetry in motion there as the second baseman turns the double play. Nice throw to first and that’s the way to end the inning. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mucus and he’s been fantastic this year. Really stingy in terms of allowing base runners. He’s just got great stuff. It’s tough to square up. Well, one-run game. Trey Sweeney up now for the Tigers. That one in triple digits. Well, these Tigers digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. We’ve already seen eight line drives from them, and it’s always a good sign when the ball is jumping off your bat. And that’s what this offense has been doing so far today. Missed with a change up and it’s one and two. [Music] And that’s down and away. Full count. Wow. Triple digits on the gun. I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. Swing at a ball popped up. Whit balls it in and there’s one away. Now batting third base. So here’s Bayz now. V. That misses the zone. Ball one. Base is empty. One away. You’re in the top half of inning number seven. Swing and a miss. And a count one and one. Yeah, there’s two. Yeah, the 2-1 hammered but foul. Good job to fight that one off. Battling here as he fouls it away. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, hauls it in for the owl. got the pitch that he wanted just a little bit quick. Front shoulder open, backside collapsed a little bit, and the launch angle not where he needed it to be. Carrie Carpenter now at the plate, one for three. That immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Finish him. Foul ball. [Applause] Come on. down to the dirt swing and a miss. Up with it, fires to first. Got him in and over on the strikeout. Nothing doing here this half. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Tigers three and the Royals two. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Bo Briski. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Isbel punting and it’s right in front of the plate and that’s foul. [Applause] That one finds the zone. No balls, two strikes [Music] inside. Almost got him. [Applause] cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. A big first out here in the seventh via the punch. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this when you got the leadoff hitter. So critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So a strikeout really puts them on their heels. Next to hit, Jonathan India and fouled off. [Applause] [Music] [Music] looking to get the tying run on base and that is downstairs. Now one and two and he grounds one to the right side. Torqulson takes it himself and that quickly number seven. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team with in the box now. No balls in a strike on the ground out to short. Throw on to Torlson. Three up, three down. Inning over. Royals bats are quiet there. They trail it 3-2. Now pitching for the welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the Taylor Clark. They know that he can get a rightander out, but he’s in position to face a couple of lefties this inning. Well, one game. Here comes Glaver Torres. Torres. And that’s through there for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. 0 and one. [Music] Fast for a strike. to the right side and that one handled. Takes it himself. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. Now battle second base Colt Keith. And up next for Detroit, Colt Keith. And first offering is fouled off. That one missing inside. Action in the pen down there. Anel Serpa the southpaw is throwing and getting that sinker dialed in. Shriber also throwing. [Music] breaking ball inside and it’s two and one and that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. [Music] Next pitch misses outside. Three and two now. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. swing and a high-fly ball left field. Whit calls it in. Two away. That’s a tough play for the infielder ranging back into the outfield. There’s part of him that’s saying, “Hey, where you at, outfielder? Call me off.” But he stayed focused and made a nice catch right there. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Riley Green. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] lifted in the air down the left side. That one gets down for a hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. Kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that. You have to bury it otherwise it’s not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that time. Here comes Torque to the plate. Swaying in a miss. There’s the slider. Throw and one. It’s 0 and one. slapped hard the other way but fouled. Green off of first with two away. That’s a laser base hit. lead runner gets the stop sign at third. It’s a two out double. Second and third now. Back to back base hits. Pretty much just a textbook double into the gap. And when you can drop one in there between the outfielders, you know you’re making the turn at first. Just an excellent swing. So two on with two away. Wel Perez up now for the Tigers. 0 for three in this one. That catches the zone for a strike. It’s 0 and one. No balls. One strike. [Applause] In the dirt, but kept close by, but no advance from the runners. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Grabs it on the run and that’s the third out. A couple of hits in the inning, but they can’t get him home. Last half of the eighth coming up. It’s the Tigers three and the Royals two. And we’re back. Ready for the bottom of the eighth. And now the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. Frisky back to work. Fast for a strike. One. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Tommy Canley, the closer getting cranked up for a possible save opportunity. Tap foul at the [Music] plate. Chopper right side. And that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. Now it’ll be the cleanup hitter for the Royals. Salvador Perez. Swing and a ground ball out to short. Tosses across to first and they get Perez for the out. You want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw. Mike El Garcia the next to hit. right through there for a strike. Well, we call that keyholding. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Headed towards the corner and it stays fair. Makes the turn and heads for second. And now the tying run is into scoring position. Three hits in this one. All of them for extra bases. What a game. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. And now a crucial opportunity to tie up this game with another base hit. And here comes the Tigers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Boiski departs and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. So, the closer summon from the bullpen, Tommy Canley, left-handed batter at the plate, and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. Tommy Keaneley. Digging in is the switch in outfielder, Drew Waters. rolled softly but that goes foul [Music] the change up missing and that is one strike with the go ahead run at the plate here the bottom half of the eighth inning in the Well done behind the dish. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. That ends the frame. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, John Shrivever. And he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one an inning, so he’ll be tough to get to. Well, one-run game. Dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. First pitch misses. Movement in the bullpen. Anel Serpa, the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose. [Applause] That’s down and in. And the sweeper catches the [Applause] plate. Fouls one off. Two and two. [Applause] swing and a miss. Stuck him out and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Third time he struck out in this one and definitely an individual performance you want to flush. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable up there. Just one of those days, but when you’re still winning the ball game, at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that W. Sweeney batting with one down. Takes the strike in the air to left down the line. Waters makes the grab and there’s two down. Now batting the third baseman, Javier Bayz. The batter now Javier Bayz. Not looking like they’ll be adding any insurance runs heading into the bottom of the ninth. So it’s going to be on the bullpen to hold this lead. out to short. Whips it across. Bayz gone in the play and the inning is over. So they go quietly there. Bottom part of the order. 789 two up in inning number nine. It’s the Tigers three and the Royals two. Back here in Kansas City and now the right fielder John Ray. What are you looking to do in these spots? you’re down a run, you’re leading off the inning. He’s not a power hitter, a guy that’s looking to tie it up with one swing. So, he’s going to take and get into this at bat and try to get deep into the bat. Ultimately, however he can get to first base, [Music] [Applause] swings and misses. That’s strike two. No balls. Two strikes. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another [Applause] one-run game. Bottom nine. That one [Applause] missed. Got him. Swinging for the K. Pulled the string on the change up. Now it’s the second base, Michael. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. [Applause] First pitch and he just misses. Yeah, that’s fouled off. trying to close out a one-run lead. And the home team trying to pull it out. [Applause] That one way outside. Two and two. [Applause] on the ground to short. Throw on to Torlson now. Only one out remaining. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. So up now for Kansas City, Kyle Isel. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. That’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. [Music] Just missed. I missed. That’s a ball. One and one. They’re down to their final strike. A onun lead. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. [Music] Canley is just one strike away. And that one upstairs. on the ground right side on first ball game and the Tigers hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. After four wins in a row, you start to think a little bit that you’re on a roll and that’s the momentum that just takes on a life of its own. Players start hitting up and down the lineup. You never know who’s going to come up with the big hit, who’s going to come out of the bullpen and get the big outs, but it’s a good feeling and you want to extend it. What the move?
