Cardinals vs. Rangers Game Highlights (5/31/25) | MLB Highlights

Corbin on the year so far. He’s three and three with a 375 erra in his nine starts, 38ks to 16 walks and a 257 batting average against. When we look at Patrick Corbin’s Arsenal on the year, we see the fast ball, slider, cutter, and then occasionally mixes in the change and the curve ball. Well, here’s Nar to start the game. Left-handed batter hitting .252, eight homers, 28 driven in. And he hits this weakly left side of the infield coming out of the shadows. Young and he’ll throw over the first. Now Brendan Donovan third in the National League in hitting at 333. Left-handed batter with four homers and 24 runs batted in. A little tapper back near the mound. Corbin fields it throws to first and that completes a one two three first inning. Sunny Gray on a sunny day in Texas for the Cardinals. 11 starts, six of them quality, 5-1 record and facing Texas coming off a solid game last time out against Arizona. Cardinals are nine and two in sunny starts. So that’s a good number. Didn’t waste any time either. And he hits this one sharply on the ground shortstop and he’ll have himself an infield hit. Aronado nearly got that one, but the fact that he slowed it down gave Win enough time to get to it, but there was just no recovering. Now Langford, the right-handed hitter. Sander cut and Sunny Gray has his first strike out. Now for Sunny Gray, he really has to have command of that fast ball to finish. And usually it’s a sweeper, but this is the two seamer that’s right on the edge. Two outs are runner at first and no score for Josh Young. Next delivery to Young is a swing and a miss. It must be Vanderbilt day as Sunny Gray gets Josh Young. Second strike out of the inning. No score into the second. So nothing and won the count here to Contras batting 240 now. And inside ball four Contrus, your first Cardinals base runner. And the leadoff runner on for the Cardinals. And Ivon Herrera will bat. That’s in the dirt. Good secondary jump by Contraras. Good base running. So he’s in scoring position on a ball in the dirt. First chance for the Cardinals to hit with runners in scoring position. And a chopper to the left side. Nobody covers third. So the Cardinals get a break there. Herrera advances the runner with one out. One out here in the second. And that brings up Nolan Aronado. swing and a high fly ball to center. Langford drifts back. That should be plenty deep enough. He’ll make the catch, tagging and scoring is Contras and the Cardinals play ABC and strike first. It’s one to nothing. And listen, all the Cardinals fans here. Rangers have to come from behind here. Trailing one to nothing and it’s the 22year-old Alejandro Osuna. And he’ll take in. That’s ball four and he’s content to just take those walks. Excellent job. lead man aboard in the second inning. And that brings up Sam Hagerty. Snap throw to second is going to be caught and in time. What a play. Osuna thrown out trying to steal second. What a rocket from Pahes. He has done a great job handling the running game. This is on a breaking ball, a curve ball. And you see where he throws that ball. It’s the second base side allowing Mason Win to apply the tag. Next pitch is swung on and missed. And he strikes out to lead this game off. That’s three strikeouts for Sunny Gray. 8 N and one do up for St. Louis. And Corbin starts off Pedro Pahes with a pitch that’s outside for ball one. There’s a swing in a miss and Pahz strikes out. One away. Corbin trying to make it a quick inning and he strikes out Newbart. It’s a one, two, three. Top half of the third for Patrick Corbin. And strike three catches the outside corner. Sunny strikes out the side with the lead. The Cardinals take a one- nothing lead into the fourth. Mason Win first up against the lefty Corbin. That’s shot down the left field line. That’s headed for the corner. Ozuna will play that on a hop off the fence. And Mason Win with a leadoff double. His ninth two base hit of the year. That was scalded. And Donovan does his job. He gets the runner to third on a ground ball to first. What an unselfish player Donovan has been all year. Let’s see if the Cardinals can cash in run number two. So the infield is in now with one out for Contrarus who walked his first time. And it’s hammered down the left field line again. Did he keep that fair? He did. That’ll score Mason Win. That’s going to be a double for Contrarus. And the Cardinals have a two nothing lead. Hits it off the end of the bat. So it doesn’t have that power element, but he keeps it fair right inside that foul line. Here comes the fifth inning. Here comes Alec Burles against Corbin. Lefty against lefty. Two runs, two hits for St. Louis. No runs, one hit for Texas. There’s a blast down to third. Young smothers it and takes care of Berles. Hello, hot corner. Any chance Josh Young then looks into the Cardinals dugout and looks at one of the greatest defensive third basemans of all time and points his finger at him. Says, “That one’s for you, Nolan.” Going to the bottom of the fifth, the Rangers are trailing the Cardinals two to nothing. So, one out and Jake Burgerer will bet. Didn’t really identify a Cardinal to be honest with you. Bouncer back at third base. Long throw and Burger beats it. So Burgerer is aboard now. Simeon who struck out his first time and he hits that one out toward left field that gets down. Base hit. Hagerty stops at second. The Rangers have a couple of base runners. They’ve got tying runs on for Kyle Higashi. Runner at first. Semime takes off. Pitch hit high in the air toward left center. Not deep enough. Victor’s got it. Glasses gleaming and Sunny Gray strands a pair of Rangers. St. Louis right-hander Sunny Gray working on a three hit shut out through five as the Rangers bat in the last half of the six. It’s two nothing Cardinals and a check swing and a miss. Sunny Gray has another strike out. Seven strikeouts for Sunny Gray. He’s been fantastic today. So two down in the inning and that brings up Wyatt Langford. He struck him out. Sunny Gray has punched out eight Texas Rangers. We go to the bottom of the seventh. Cardinal lead two nothing. Sunny Gray back to the mound. The hitter is Josh Young. He’s making his way to the plate. Has given up three hits, two of them on the infield. And there’s strikeout number nine. One away in the seventh inning. Gray struck out three of the last four Texas hitters. And Osuna flares that out over shortstop and into center field. A base hit. So Osuna with the single. So he’s been on board twice as we mentioned. He reached base safely in all six games. Burger reached on an infield single. He also flew to right field and a swing and a miss. There’s number 10 for Sunny Gray and a big milestone. Strikeout number 1,800. Well, tip of the cap to Sunny Gray and what an outstanding career he has had already. But racking up the strikeout numbers and getting the punch out, 10 of them in all today. On the ground right to first and Sunny Gray through seven innings. A 10 strikeout four hit masterpiece for the Cardinal right-hander. 32-year-old Phil Mon on the pitch in the bottom of the eighth. St. Lewis on top by a two to nothing score. And there is ball four. So in a two nothing game, the Rangers get that lead man on in the eighth inning for free. And here comes Higashi. He has struck out and flight out. There’s the ground ball to third. Aronado’s got it. One there. Donnie the turn. There’s a first for everything. Two for the price of one. He’s doubled up. Two outs in the inning. Two nothing Cardinals as Ryan Dalton Helsley comes on to pitch the bottom of the ninth. Seager, Langford, and Young here in the bottom of the ninth. Hey, got him. Swinging a miss. Disappearing slider. And Seager is out number one. 11 Rangers have struck out so far today. And a shot up the middle. Diving stopped Donovan. What a play and stretch. Contras holds the bag for out number two. If you’re Texas, why not? You might as well challenge. Of course, it needs to be challenged. Contraras believes he was on the bag. Not to review. Ball on the field is confirmed. The runner is out. Texas loses their challenge. Outstanding by Wilson Gutterus on the backside. Watch the footwork. That right foot extends and just stays on the bag long enough for the big second out. And with two outs and the Cards leading two nothing, Josh Young is not batting as the tying run. He’s got to get on so Osuna can bat as the tying run. Hey, got him. What a way to end it. Cardinals shut out the Rangers and even the series. Two nothing. Your final score. A pitching clinic put on by St. Louis in game two.

  1. WOW !!!! Friends, UNDISPUTED Manager of the Year Oliver Jose Marmol and his St. Louis Cardinals (the GREATEST team in the league) are like Taylor Swift by SHAKING OFF that fluke loss from yesterday. It's TRUE the squad goes 137-25, TAKES the NL Central, MAKES the postseason once again and in five/six months (depending on when the games are in October/November), HOISTS an unprecedented TWELFTH World Series trophy!

In the top of the second inning, OBVIOUS Most Valuable Player of the League Nolan James Arenado, the 34-year-old from Newport Beach, California, gets the offense rolling with the GOOD OL' sacrifice fly to center field, driving in a teammate.

A teammate hits an RBI double to left field, bringing in Masyn Blaze Winn in the top of the fourth inning.

UH HUH ! In the bottom of the eighth inning, a FILTHY #SCTOP10 DOUBLE PLAY as third baseman Nolan James rendo FIRED to second baseman Brendan Michael Donovan who then HURLED to a teammate at first base. That SHOWS the STL is not only the best offensively, but defensively, too!

Folks, let's give a STANDING OVATION to CLEAR-CUT Cy Young Award winner Sonny Douglas Gray. The 35-year-old from Smyrna, Tennessee, was absolutely NAILS this afternoon; a PERFECT TEN strikeouts!! CAP TIPS go to Phillip Louis Maton and Ryan Dalton Helsley, both part of the best bullpen in the league, for the FEROCIOUS defense!

    TIME TO FLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #12in25 #STLFLY
