Interesting that Westbrook is even picking up the phone. I wonder what the offer is from Hapoel Tel Aviv. You would think that with the great showing this year with the Nuggets, they would want him back or even some other NBA team would give him more than the minimum.

  16. Eurocup is the 2nd level league in Europe. Very low level. European Champions League is the main one. Fenerbahce won it 10 days ago and their budget was around $30-35M. Pana, Olympiakos, Real Madrid, Milano, Barcelona, Monaco had slightly higher budgets, up to $50M.

  33. Doubt he does this. Russ hasn’t blown his money, he’s worth over $300m with most of it invested, he’s mostly playing to chaelse a ring.

    A “never before seen in Euros” contract starts around $5m per year (Kendrick Nunn is current highest at $4.5). The NBA vet minimum is over $3m, and considering Russ was the 6th man for a contender this year, he’s absolutely worth that. At most he’s making an extra couple million to live overseas, and probably losing more than that in endorsements.

And this player just happens to have a player option for next season? And the team’s best player just happens to be Serbian?

    If this post is any indication, it’s about to be a long summer for Russ, because they are about to try and bully him into declining that option.

  38. I doubt Westbrook will leave to play basketball anywhere else. He’s set with money, he has a hall of fame career, he’s widely liked by fans, and at this point he’s really only in it for the love of the game.

    That being said, the international market is starting to become lucrative enough where they’re trying to woo NBA talent to their leagues.
