Series Win in St. Lou | Royals Split Doubleheader and Take Home the Dub

What a way to start our double header. The Cardinals with a walk off winner in extra innings now can sweep the double header. Both teams know what it feels like to come from behind and win a game in the series and both teams know what it feels like to let one slip away. Matthew Liberator, the Cardinals left hander gets the start at so far this season. He is undefeated in 2025. He’s doing a really nice job you’re going to face predominantly right handed lineups of getting in on the right handers and really taking advantage of that part of the plate. Jonathan India steps to the plate to lead off the ballgame. He began today game one of the double header with a leadoff homer. What does he do in game two in the full powder blues? That one hit softly to left and Libby’s off to a good start. He retires. Bobby was one for three. Also drew a couple of walks, one of them intentional fastball rip through the hole between third and short a laser into left field. A base hit off the bat at 114.5 miles an hour. He’s on at first with one out for Michael Garcia fastball lifted on the right field line. Tailing toward the corner, Belas over it’s gone off the pole home run opposite field, Michael Garcia puts the Royals up two nothing. Now, the Royals have hit a home run in the first inning in all three games. That’s your three hole hitter going for his sixth home run of the year now past Quintino and that one up the middle Mason to his left, what a look at where fielded that ball and where he finished his throw base range for the second out and about the work of Mason Scott brought back. He comes in, makes the play and Perez is out number three but a two run opposite field home run by Michael garcia, the Royals have two and the Cardinals are coming to bat at Busch Stadium, Cole Raan is back from the injured list for game two. That’s a no doubt about it. That groin injury, let’s hope that’s all cleaned up. He faced the Cardinals here on May 16th. Hopefully he’s 100% and he can execute his pitches. That’s how you do it with a leadoff walk something he did a lot of in the month of May and a good start for the Cardinals who try to answer here in the first. Here’s Mason Nguyen. Nguyen drives it into right field. That’s a base hit Cardinals got something going against the tough lefty in two on nobody out. And Brendan Donovan coming up, got him there and that is out. Number one, get your hands full when you’re facing Reagans and you lefty or right sometimes, you know, it’s a lot harder to hit that ball moving away. You can see how he bailed out. Here’s wilson Contreras who delivered the game winner in the 10th inning is going to be Contreras 1st and 2nd with two outs. And Nolan Arenado coming up, Reagans delivers and Arenado floats it right center field. Cag Leone into the gap with Garcia and Garcia is there to make the catch coming from center arena is out and that ends the inning. He will stand in the lead off the third inning against Liberto swing and a ball well hit down the left line and that ball is long gone long gone from freddie for me, a home run and the Royals lead it 3 to 1. He got a that one for his second homer on the year that was screaming, hit me on the way to the plate. So the second strikeout for Bobby is down on strikes and that will bring Michael garcia to the plate homer for the sixth time this year. He’s got a runner at first one out. Pretty good pitch. Poo thought that was strike three. James Jean thought it was down, it wasn’t swing and a liner down the left field line that’s down for it, it’s gonna roll all the way to the fence. Jonathan India will be held at third. It’s a ringing double to left off the bat of garcia who jumps in the air and clicks his heels. India at third Garcia at second. Vinny pass. Quintino will bat with the infield back with 2nd and 3rd and 1 down. Then he brings in one on a ground out. He drives in his 36th run of the year. You need outs and you need Libby to stay in the game too. Garcia is now at third with two down and here’s Salvy swing and a line in the left field of base hit new there to pick it up. Here comes garcia to score another Royals run. It’s five to one just making more mistakes. I think that’s the simplest way to say it. And now why he’s making mistakes. That’s a complex question, Jack Cag Leone chance for serious damage instead breaks his bat first and the stretch is going to be that the Cardinals answer with a two strike hit of their own. Donovan’s second hit of the series puts him at the corners with nobody out. Does not look the same, not pitching with conviction. Probably some rust involved. Contreras has had a nice day and it can get nicer with two on and nobody out in the bottom of the third inning left field corner that’s down for a hit. Donovan on his way to third they’re going to win here. He comes. Contreras with a two run double and the Cardinals come roaring right back. Reagan’s just not putting it where he wants to with herrera at the plate and swing and a solider in the outfield grass. Another Superman play by Bobby Junior and he was in the air a long time to catch that and he did it without a cape Contreras who’s still at second base for Nolan Arenado. 53 Royals were in the bottom of the third and he does not seem right right now. That could change though. Ties it up Nolan Arena with his second the year, a two run shot. Well, he looked pretty comfortable on that swing you shall receive. That was the fourth consecutive fastball that Reagan to Arenado that was thigh high over the middle of the plate. They have a brand new ball game with six innings to go. It’s 55 mark can doubles his third double on the year. He’s on at second base to begin this fourth inning. Can takes the lead. Nick Lofton will bat and he does , he hits it to the right side and up the right field line and the Royals answer immediately. Can scores. And the Royals lead six five garcia leads off. He’s homered, he’s doubled. He’s knocked in two and scored two tonight, fouled off the left leg of Michael Garcia and he’s down in a heap. He rolls over in pain out in front of the home plate area and Chris is out of the third base dugout to come, take a look at my and garcia is still on his hands and knees over home plate and he is gesture back to his left foot. Garcia staying in and a walk to Garcia to lead off the fifth inning. Now to the Cardinals see something with Matthew Liberto. Here there was a fastball in that at bat. That was 89 miles an hour from Libby. And I think that’s what’s going on here. And we do have the pitching change, an injury, pitching change. Matthew Liberto leaves after walking the leadoff man, Michael garcia and 70 pitches. So john King will have as much time as he needs. Salvador Perez comes to the plate with a runner on third and only one out and the Cardinals bring their infield in Royals up 6 to 5. Top of the fifth, ripped through the hole between third and short and the left of base hit Salvador Perez continues his double header dominance. It’s 7 to 5 Royals in the fifth Nolan Arenado back to seventh home run of the year. The last time up check swing and a pitch Lowe appeal to first arena went around strike three and he is not happy. He is barking up the first base line and first base umpire Todd Tit of the ci now Arenado peels off back to the first base dugout. Here’s the pitch swung on and missed strike three high heat from an Serpa 96 out of the left hand three K’s for Serpa in a scoreless fit. An Zerpa and Cruz have shut down the ST Louis offense, Zerpa coming in with some dominant stuff and the hard throwing Cruz letting it eat at 9798 sharply hit to third diving stop Garcia long and save beats the infield hit and the Cardinals are in business in the 83 strikeouts in a scoreless eighth for Stephen Cruz. Four strikeouts and two scoreless for Cruz out of the Royals bullpen. The Royals relief Cora struck out eight Cardinals since the start of the fourth inning but carlos Est-vez is back on the mound for the bottom of the ninth. He took the loss in game one and gave up the Contreras walk off hit. So the Cardinals have the top of the order coming up. Swing on him is strike three slider darting down and in and New Bar is down on strikes one away. Sea rave is there and keeps the tying run on deck two down in the ninth inning. The Cardinals are down to their last out. Donovan has one hit and a run scored one for four and on the ground to the right side. Salmi backhands Est-vez covers underhand toss in time. Est-vez is there ball game over Royals win 7 to 5. The final score in ST Louis. Carlos Est-vez gets the final three outs and earns his 1/100 career save.

The bats came to play tonight with two big homers from Maikel Garcia and Freddy Fermin, and the bullpen shut it down with 6 scoreless innings to secure the series win.

  1. I love how they brought Jac up, and the entire lineup over the series was like "well we can't get shown up by a 22 year old," and popped off for 21 runs. (Not including Jac's RBI double)

  2. This may sound obvious, but when the most consistent part of your team is your entire pitching staff and your defense, all you need is the bats to get hot at the right time to be dangerous in the playoffs.

  3. 4:59 5:38 look how shortened Ragans arm slot is from 2024. He's throwing at about a 10° lower angle – that is a recipe for disaster. Why would our coaches try to fix a pitcher that was as good as he was last year? Why change ANYTHING? What we had with Ragans last year was more than I could have ever hoped for from a lefty starter in 2024, and they seem to have broken him. I really hope he can get back to form, but this is concerning.
