  3. Ehlers, Vilardi, Samberg top priority must signs. Triage after that for what positions you lack the most depth. I would like to see him take a big stab at a FA since cap is going up but that doesnt usually work out for us. Plus have to preserve some space to pay KFC whatever he wants.

    Ehlers: I’m frankly concerned that if the contract is 8x9m that the Jets should let him go or do a sign and trade. He has a non-negligible injury history and speed is a huge component of his game so if he loses even a quarter step his effectiveness could be hampered.

    Vilardi: I’ve said for a while Vilardi is a very very good complimentary player but not a guy who is a cornerstone. Yes, extend him, but you shouldn’t be paying him like a top-line forward even if that’s where he plays. He should frankly be playing with Nino and Lowry and not with Connor and Scheifele, then continue to be using him on PP1. Injuries are also a concern here. He’s missed significant time every year and you can’t pay someone big bucks who only plays 75% of the games and isn’t a lock to be healthy in the playoffs.

    Samberg: if that’s the contract ask, give him 8 years lol. I would give him 12 years if the cba would allow it. He’s a cornerstone player whose game will age extremely well into his 30s and I’m not scared of making a big commitment to him in any way, shape or form.

    Barron: I think I want to keep him, he’s the type of utility player every contender needs and would cost more to replace than to extend.

    Fleury: only if we can move out Schenn and Stanley.

    Appleton/Tanev – let them walk.

    Overall, after signing free agents, this is what I hope the depth chart looks like:
