Texas Rangers’ horrifically stupid loss to Rays should signal time to punt on 2025 season

Texas Rangers got swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in three winnable games lost by inexplicably stupid defensive lapses. Chris Young should see the writing on the wall and pull the plug on a 2025 Rangers team incapable of winning anything.

  1. This is the last straw that broke the camel's back. We've seen too many instances of poor fielding, decision-making, misplays, walk-offs, etc. We need to consider moving on from this season, promoting fresh faces, and finding a better balance between small ball and long ball hitting philosophy. For vets who refuse or can't change, offer them a fresh start with another team.

  2. This loss doesn’t fall on a single person. Everything kind of just fell apart for no reason. I’m not even that mad at this loss. It was a culmination of a bunch of bad decisions from a lot of people. To me the real problem is having guys on second with no outs and not being able to get them to third, much less scoring them. We need to be at a point where if we have someone on second with no outs we need to bunt him over, no exceptions.

  3. It’s hard to say this is the stupidest loss because there have been so many:

April 8 – lost to Cubs 10-6 in the 9th inning when Taveras misplayed a flyball at the wall and Jung misplayed a double-play grounder and the Cubs score 4 runs to win.

April 24 – lost to Athletics 4-3. Rangers led 3-2 into the 9th when Taveras misplayed a single to CF allowing the tying run to score from first.

April 27 – lost to Giants 3-2 in the 9th on the Little League home run.

May 7/May 8 – Consecutive losses to Boston in which the Rangers go 0-for-17 with RISP.

May 18 – lost to Houston 4-3 when Leiter had a no-hitter into the 7th. Heim got thrown at third in the 7th on a ground ball to the left side and the Astros score 3 in the 9th to win.

May 24 – lost to White Sox 10-5 after the 6th inning spiraled out of control. Wyatt Langford and Sam Haggerty collided at the wall on what should’ve been the first out resulting in a triple. Josh Jung misplayed a routine grounder and Marcus Semien missed a tag before making a late throw to first— three missed outs in the same inning.

May 28 – lost to Toronto 2-0 when the Rangers struck out 13 times against 5 Toronto relievers.

June 4 – lost to Tampa Bay 5-4 when the eventual tying and winning runs scored when Rocker failed to cover first base.

June 5 – lost to Tampa Bay 4-3 due to mental errors by Jung and Smith.

  4. There comes a time when you have to face the music. The Rangers have given us 162 games last year, and 63 games this year of bad baseball – particularly on offense. But this year, the defense has given us some doozies also. This month on paper looks like the Rangers should climb the rankings, but I'm sure they will stay idle or drop.

  5. Not sure what everyone is expecting here. This is par for the course on the season so far. You can still be a Rangers fan, but it’s time to move on from this season. It’s ok to admit they are done. That doesn’t make us less of a Ranger fan.

  6. Name from the past that randomly popped in my head. Scott Fletcher. I completely forgot about that guy and he was pretty darn good as Ranger. Ok im back to the present.

  7. Occasionally isn't the right word to describe how often the Texas Rangers have made it to the World Series.
The Rangers have been there only once. And it keeps looking like 2023 was a fluke.
Go Rangers. Keep it down! 👎

  8. no it should not, ownership should be disappointed, but we CANNOT waste this staff, this year. Full Send until we are out of contention, mid late july?
