Phoenix Suns Would Be CHANGED FOREVER If They Drafted Tyrese Haliburton

okay I know what you’re thinking This is sad This is depressing We’re only going to talk about it for the first segment or so So we’re going to get into free agent wings Let’s just walk down this hypothetical path together Psychos and sitos unite for a free agent Friday edition of the PHNX Suns show coming to you live from Studio K presented by Circle K Join the Inner Circle for free by downloading the Circle K app today Terms and conditions apply at participating locations Visit circlek.com for more details Congratulations everybody You made it to the end of the work week The Phoenix Suns hired a coach this week They made it official today We’ll talk about that We’ll talk about the hypothetical path the Phoenix Suns might have walked down if they did indeed draft Tyrese Hallebertton fresh off of Hal’s game one buzzer well not buzzer beating but gamewinning shot And then we’re going to go through a ton of free agent wing options the Suns can target this summer So a jam-packed way to end the week A fun show yesterday Stephen about KD And of course a breaking news week We’ve had one hell of a run here in Aritin’s first full week as PHNX Suns producer Uh Eric welcome to Welcome to um an early offseason that’s also extremely active as if the team is still playing It’s been non-stop news non-stop action non-stop hot topics non non-stop everything Yeah And the season is still going on for a majority of not the majority of the NBA but for majority majority of them are done Majority of teams that I wish the Suns could trade places with are currently playing But we do have some Suns news before we dive into a little game one recap and then talk about what if the Suns did indeed draft Tyrese Hallebertton So hit that like button hit that subscribe button five star reviews Manny Fresh says “Have they said anything about the press conference for Aught?” Well yes they have The Phoenix Suns did officially name Jordan Au as the team’s next head coach earlier today We’ll read you some quotes from Brian Gregory and from Matt Ishbia His press conference will be at 3:00 on Tuesday So looking forward to that PHNX Suns will go later that day so that we can bring you all of his best answers plus of course the full video as well But Stephen we know officially it’s Jordan A And a quote from Matt Ishbia Jordan embodies the culture of excellence and accountability we’re going to prioritize said Suns owner Matt Ishbia He is young hungry and ready to be an NBA head coach His track record of developing players fostering team chemistry and his understanding of the game at the highest level are essential skills to how we’re building for our future Man it sounds great I’m I’m very much going to approve it Show me I got to see it because we heard all of this The definition of insanity is to continue on to do the same things and expect different results Stephen says you have to in the chat is he hashtag aligned Different Steven for sure I mean it’s it it sounds like it I would imagine if they’re if the common denominator from them is all where most of them kind of hell from in some capacity I would imagine they’re aligned that should allow for a lot of the outside noise and a lot of the kind of budding of minds to not be an adversity that they have to work through this season So it sounds great I’m ready to see it though And obviously I can’t expect to see it today or tomorrow or even in the next three or four months But when that time comes with everything that’s being said it sounds great I’ll be ready to see if the words if the work is is matching the words I I think Suns fans deserve to to have a little bit of hope with with this guy Maybe get a little bit of optimism Now don’t put too much into what you hear Brian Gregory and what you hear Mattis saying in this because like you said Stephen the the the same things were said about Mike Boonho or about Frank Vogle And you’re not going to know until you actually get the results But this is what Brian Gregory had to say about new Suns head coach Jordan says After an extensive extensive head coach search Jordan’s leadership and basketball intellect consistently stood out Combining a brilliant mind as an offensive strategist with the blueprint to employ an aggressive defensive system He’s a strong communicator with a relentless work ethic He shares our vision of establishing a team identity rooted in toughness accountability and a systematic approach to the game Jordan’s attack Jordan attacks every day with the grit and competitiveness we need and a leader of our culture and we’re excited to welcome him and his family to Phoenix Uh probably what stands out most to me is the systematic approach as well as the aggressive defense Uh those are two things that I basically bang the table about all season long and hoping that last season’s team could show more of I know it wasn’t their natural identity that they will have but I felt like that was something that they could build in specific lineups obviously because it wasn’t going to persist throughout their entire rotation Obviously we only saw that for about maybe two and a half weeks was when that team looked their absolute best post Allstar break and then because it wasn’t baked into their identity it was just kind of a one-off it dissipated and so did their chances at the play in in the playoffs Yeah expecting to see that going forward from this team um as far as roster construct before they actually get to establishing said principles come training camp Yeah 535 fit says “If the team has a bad season does he get a pass and not fired like the past two coaches Since he has ties to the owner will they keep him for more than one season?” I think even beyond the I think context matters Context always always matters The merits that he’s being hired off of are not the same as Mike Budenhoer or Frank Vogle Nor is it the context the the style of context of roster that he’s going to be inheriting where expectations were latched on the one he won’t have those same expectations per se from general perception but even more so from the people that are hiring him in terms of what the team should look like and what the expectations are Do they still plan to make the playoffs A billion% I still believe that But as far as championship expectations that might not be what they’re they’re going into the season saying if we don’t do this and we don’t get to plan in June the season is a failure Yeah I think he’s going to get at least two years minimum I would say I’m looking at three He’s going to get some leash If the Suns aren’t great this year there’s going to be reasons behind it there That’s just the truth There’s going to be reasons behind it and he won’t be the whole reason Plus you talk about establishing a culture accountability You can’t do that if you keep firing your head coaches Rome was not built in one day nor was the culture No And you you can’t do this again next next off season I mean everybody’s at their wits end with it You you can’t go through everything again because what You’re going to sell a new head coaching hire to your fan base right Oh no We’re going to do it again But this time the fifth time we’re going to get it right Don’t you worry about it The fifth time we decide on a head coach we’re going to be all good We got it Don’t worry about it That’s not going to happen They’re they’re going to give this guy some time because if he sucks they don’t want to be wrong right This is the last offseason I think they’ve afforded themselves to admit that they were wrong They’re gonna have to get down on it and and hunker down and ride through the storm if it gets choppy this season For sure And that’s why I said the merits of everything in the context of situation that they’re in right now is just so different that he has to be given grace to do what he needs to do to not just establish new but also undo the things that preceded him And for those reasons especially th the the things that preceded them in part that I’m speaking to you have to be given time And obviously that time has to come with a certain type of urgency and and to be insistent within all of that But generally speaking he has to be given a little bit of time to work his magic and put his stamp on things And naturally that has to also come in tandem with the roster that allows for him to be his best self So yeah there’s a pecking order of accountability um in their alignment And I think that if they can if they can strike that accord the right way they might not take as long in terms of reversing the trend that’s been taking place the last two seasons Yeah But what about before the offseason before next season We saw last night the Indiana Pacers demon run through the playoffs continued I don’t know who they sacrificed what blood ritual they did but another close game another comeback victory and another game-winning shot for Tyrese Hallebertton against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Steven Mhm You just can’t help but think what if right Like what if this guy who’s now been on an all-time playoff run was co-stars with Devin Booker instead of Pascal Seakum Yeah I mean especially considering that it’s not even a hypothetical it’s just a matter of fact The opportunity was there And to keep it honest you chose to go elsewhere You did Now there are some people who are are saying “Well Tyres Hallebertton specifically requested not to be drafted by the Suns.” I know I’ve heard stuff like that I don’t know how legitimate it is at a certain point like Tyresese Halbertton was an end of the top 10’s pick This is not a guy who can demand where he wants to go If you’re a franchise you can select him Like that That’s my philosophy on it is you you could have just taken him right Instead you you took Jaylen Smith with the 10th pick Deon Vel then went 11th Tyrese Hallebertton went 12 Were you high on Harley coming out of Iowa State I was because I always have a eye for point guards in particular coming out of each draft and he was one of those high assist high volume usage guys with minimum turnovers that also showed three levels three level score um chops in tandem with that playmaking and that was for a Iowa State team that had some NBA principles that they were playing off of So it’s not imagining him running offensive actions that they run in the league because they were literally doing that So you can see him working in systems He’s also a player that showed that he can just play with whoever because of the skill sets he has the cerebral approach to the game that he exudes and the way that that helps to uplift a team And that’s one of the barometers I always judge point guards off of How well can you get the most out of yourself but also do you understand when to press certain buttons and uplift the floor of everybody that’s on the floor with you He he showed all of those things in college in in spades So to ignore him to have a picking opportunity and had ignored him at the point where the Suns were I just don’t understand that one Yeah it it was a tough one especially because you picked Jaylen Smith who was ending up not being really anything in the league He has had a little bit of a stretch here I guess he’s not a complete nothing but obviously he’s nowhere near Tyrese Alburn I have a couple hypothetical questions I’m going to run through you and then we’ll get through some free agent names Obviously the 2020 draft precedes the 2020 2021 season and that is when the Phoenix Suns made the NBA Finals Now Jaylen Smith not a big part of that finals run by any means If you replace him with Tyrese Hallebertton who was good his rookie year would be playing backup point guard minutes Do you think the Phoenix Suns are NBA champions right now Absolutely 10,000 Without a doubt Yep What the Suns were missing in that playoff stretch especially against the Milwaukee Bucks was a consistent third creator outside of Chris Paul and Devin Booker What Tyresese Hallebertton was able to do coming into the league was go and get a paint touch and run an efficient pick and roll with a with a roller or a popper Now the Suns naturally didn’t have a popper per se Uh to the extent that Cam Johnson is in this present day he wasn’t that necessary to that extent in 2021 Their best popper may have been Dario Sergeant Obviously he got hurt so that took that off the board But imagine having a pick and roll trio of Chris Paul Devin Booker and then Tyresese Hallebertton when one of those two rest to go with the level that DeAndre Aiden was playing at in the 2021 playoffs It’d be nice I think they win I think they win I think they win the championship unequivocally Imagine having another efficient ball handler that hardly turns the ball over as well in addition to all of that and how that would take a burden off of Chris Paul who’s was at some of his best throughout that entire playoffs especially through those first two games in the finals having to go up against the grain against um Drew Holiday This is peak power Drew Holiday by the way Yeah And the way that kind of just withered Chris at moments over the course of that series Imagine if there’s a pressure outlet in Tyrese Hallebertton to where y’all want to pressure Chris cool Let’s go ahead and let Tyrese get off the ball and bring him up or let him bring it up the court And how efficient does that make the offense then Yeah Lexville 123 says “Hallebertton doesn’t slow down Giannis Hallebertton doesn’t take Drew Holiday off of Booker who made him work.” So I don’t know I get that And there are things that Tyres Hallebertton doesn’t fix but that final series was so close and any extra push over the margins for the Suns I really think it would have been enough If you think about these big plays from Giannis whether it’s the the strip from Drew to the Giannis dunk or the Giannis block on DA these all come in moments where where the game is incredibly close right It really could go either way and the Suns were already up 2 in that series I think you add another pro prolific player like that but Stephen even beyond the the finals it’s what about after that H how different is this team Does Chris Paul stay around to continue to mentor Hallebertton Do they ever trade for Kevin Durant if they have Tyresese Halleburn I mean the domino effect here is not just would they have won the 2021 finals but would they have flamed down the Western Conference semis the next year Where would they be right now They probably would have avoided the the Bradley Beal trade alto together and probably the Kevin Durant trade as well and just wrote it out with Deon Booker and Tyresese Halburn And when you see how that’s been working out for the Indiana Pacers you got to think like that would have been a much better timeline than the one that we’re on right now which like no duh Yeah Well that’s a point that I was getting ready to make from R Jonesy in the chat You put Tyres Hallebertton with Deon Booker Who our team is going to put their best point of attack defender on Most likely Deon Booker So if Tyres Hallebertton is going against twos and threes not ideal especially if they’re being included in the heavy volume of pick and roll that Tyresese runs In addition to that Tyrese Hallebert and learning from the likes of Chris Paul who they already had a pre-existing relationship prior to him coming to the league That’s a natural handing off of the baton after they go and get the 2021 finals Chris maybe still is here and maybe they just alternate roles that makes Cameron Payne expendable But Tyrese Hallebertton unlocks Mikuel Bridges and Cam Johnson and DeAndre Aiden in ways unique from Chris Paul in ways unique from Devin Booker So now who’s to say that Muel Bridges is going anywhere else now Obviously at some point they’re probably going to choose between him and Cam So both twins probably aren’t around But I mean because you’re not going to be able to pay Tyrese Book Male and Cam So one of those two is likely gone But you have options now instead of both being gone for one player you still have one of those two around in some capacity And now if you’re talking about from 2020 2020 to now that’s five seasons five years worth of continuity and chemistry that they built up Who’s to say Monty Williams isn’t gone at this point if you got that style that you’re working with You know it’s it’s tough because so much time is effect like the you you don’t want to just say drafting Tyrese Halbertton would have made the the internal conflicts with DeAndre better I mean with with DeAndre Eaton I I think maybe his career is different because maybe he wants to stay in Phoenix but at the same time like the DeAndre problems came from DeAndre Eaton himself That that was just the way that it was And I don’t know if Tyrese Hallebertton completely changes that if Chris Paul didn’t change that but he did get the most out of him And maybe the Suns are more likely to keep a center like that if they feel like they’ll have a point guard of the future If if the Suns win a championship does Chris Paul retire here right Does he become the sixman off the bench and you’re still rolling with that three guard lineup right now Imagine if you had Tyrese Hallebert and Devin Booker and Chris Paul on the same team right That that would still be extremely effective five years later right So you have everything on on the table and you’re also looking at a situation where you avoid not trading for Bradley Beal I liked the KD trade I still stand by the KG trade was not the problem It was everything they did afterwards but they still messed up everything afterwards So you avoid that timeline right And and maybe if you don’t like you maybe could still trade male Cam and all those first round picks for KD And then you have Hie Book and KD which is a much different trio than Beal Book and KD And but the biggest thing in all of that and this is no disrespect to anybody but you never even entertain the thought of adding up Bradley Bill No And that’s that was the inflection point for me with everything You don’t have to make that move That doesn’t put you in the cap hell that you’ve been operating in And it just shifts a lot of different things in terms of the order in which your decisions are being made but also the urgency that you’re moving with with those things Mhm It just changes a lot I know it’s playing Monday morning quarterback five years later and what not but and we’re not gonna do this all summer but for sure but it’s relevant to bring up right now considering that he was available when they picked they chose elsewhere and that picked didn’t make it past two seasons with the team right And and that’s that’s a huge part of it as well where you think about oh will the Sun draft a point guard this year right We talk about oh well Ty Jones is the answer for for point guard Ty Albertton is playing like the the best point guard in the league right now And if you could have the best point guard in the league alongside Devin Booker well you saw something similar and that drove them to the NBA finals in 2021 Uh here’s the thing with Tyrese Hallebertton you can’t change the past but you can always photoshop him in a Suns jersey and say soon you know and and and maybe you can like leak a fake trade rumor to somebody and say Tyrese Hallebertton demanded to go to the Suns That that’s the only way that all this works out But before we wrap this up and go to free agent wings Stephen game one of the NBA finals Mhm I know when we were at the Mercury game were you able to to catch up and watch it Yeah I watched a little bit of it Um mostly the fourth quarter and like we talked about yesterday if Aaron N and Andrew Nimhard step up in the ways that they did Mhm That’s that’s a tipping point especially if it’s coming and it’s out producing in a timely manner everything that Jaylen Williams and Isaiah Hardenstein and all of the secondary Czech homegrren type players of the Oklahoma City Thunder are And that’s quite literally what we saw Missing Tyrese Hallebertton getting off the ball and them using him in unique ways It was a whole lot of Andrew Nimhard in the fourth quarter A whole lot of Nhard and N Smith in particular making timely shots but created down So crazy And where was Tyresese Hallebertton that nowhere near the basketball That’s the that’s the dynamic that I’m talking about I know we’re done with the topic but that’s what I’m talking about with Devin Booker If you have a guard that doesn’t need it in his hands but can also be effective off it and used in unique ways it changes everything and the fact that he’s he’s made the most passes in the playoffs by far in terms of a pass per pass possession type thing Most passes doesn’t need in his hands still finds effect and impact and his teammates benefit from it Seaken got off to a hard start largely because of that as well Yeah it’s going to be such a fun chess match to watch OKC and and Indiana OKC of course leading for basically all that game only trailed for.3 seconds and of course that was after Tyrese Halurn’s pull up mid-range game winner I still have OKC winning this series I’m still gonna roll with OKC in six I just think that all games are going to be close Indiana is such a damn fun team and this is such a fun fun finals Are you still rolling with OKC in seven Mhm I’m rolling with Well no I had OKC in six So I’m still rolling with OKC in six Um but I will say they’ve been they’ve had a lot of pressure put on them in game two You can’t go you can’t go back to Indiana down two games That’s not that’s going to shift everything You can’t but they could still win right We’ve we’ve seen that happen before So yeah Killer Killer Rex does anything about basketball actually Do you like basketball Like I’m just asking because how’s how was that how was that game one boring He’s trolling It’s fine All right we are going to wrap that up People in the chat are also tired of seeing block people Have fun with that chat And we’re going to have fun talking about some free agent names Now let’s start at a name that is intriguing Yet we’ve seen a lot of him Yeah Yes We’ve seen a lot of him He’s intriguing He is maybe the most divisive player among the Suns community I’m talking about Bolt Bull A lot of power Yeah Considering there’s a lot of stuff going on from the powers that be He can be listed as a center but in reality he’s a four Sometimes he could even play the three The way that he plays 6.8 8 points per game 2.9 rebounds per game half an assist per game 71.1% from inside the three-point line 34.4 4% from deep 7 blocks per game It was once again a season Stephen that saw a lot of fans wanting more bull inconsistent minutes some very high highs a literal career high that helped me win our bet 365 competition But there’s always a lot to be left to for it to be desired with Bold Bull How would you feel about bringing him back for yet another season Uh depending on how the roster shakes out in terms of who they’re able to actually bring in what money they actually have that they’re available to work with A lot of those kind of gray areas that we just don’t know for sure quite yet The roster context might make more sense for Bull than it did in each of the past two seasons And I know that might sound a little bit crazy considering they might not have the same type of top end talent going into this season than they had in the past two seasons since he came to the Suns but him potentially being given more runway as a reserve might better suit him because now you’re playing without you’re not being put in as much of a box to where with Frank and with Mike he’s being asked to play much more of a catch and shoot and play off of closeouts type of role and set some screens every once in a while here in there Um and his defense obviously is under a more tight microscope in terms of how it’s being assessed He’ll have more room for error but also more room to grow and more room to get game reps if he’s in this son’s context and Durant and Bill are potentially not around Yeah this just this is tough I think if you bring him back on a veteran minimum I would be okay with it Uh I like what Andre has to say Andre’s been really consistent with some insightful chats recently so I appreciate you Andre says “I think he fits perfect with Dunn and Oso to make up for their lack of offense.” I I do agree with that When when BB Bowl is on and when BB Bowl is playing well he is a valuable player Obviously the length is one thing The mid-range shot making sometimes he can protect the rim when he has his head on straight which is not as likely as as it has been for a lot of other players I agree with uh Lexville in the chat I believe it was No it’s Kdub who says hard pass unless he gets consistent minutes I do want to see him even if it’s 5 minutes a game right Giving him a chance to earn I don’t know if it’d be good for him or for the team to have a a player like BB Bowl and to not give him some consistent run to see if if he can really develop into something The talent is undeniable Undeniable As an individual piece the talent is it’s it’s undeniable You look at his numbers he’s an efficient scorer He’s an effective scorer But the thing is you can’t just assess players solely off of their numbers whether that’s box score advanced stats etc etc How does he fit into a team construct a team context Does his impact um reside in the same way that it does as an individual standout The that’s where conversation starts to get a whole lot more in limbo And I’m just not sure I’m not sure if he can be a key piece on a winning team quite yet I think it still might take a couple of seasons for him to get there but it’s also going to have to come with him having had more opportunity and more of a runway than he’s had each of the last two seasons And this isn’t most likely going to try to be a winning team this next year They’re trying to be good but not a championship team And there’s going to be a younger head coach And you do wonder if a younger head coach maybe relates to him a little bit more and understands how they could use him Obviously Jordan’s mind for being unique and trying new things for on both ends of the ball Bull Bull can be a tool used and all of that And if Jordan feels like he can use that I I do feel like he he could be a valuable piece Ted says Bull seems to never get used correctly Is it him or on the coaches He’s a solid rebounder something we needed last season but never got consistent play Uh Rex in the chat also says if if he was Bull he’d be gone as well I think there’s a very good case that Bull might just want to change his scenery but I I do think that at his best he could be a contributing player on a good team I just don’t think he could be a starter And that’s the thing Is he going to be okay with not being a starter or not being a highminute earner Because I see him as somebody who has a problem with that But what’s the highest up the what’s what’s the highest in terms of a main rotation that you think he could be on a winning team on a winning team probably six man of the year on a like absolute ceiling If he’s locked in consistent minutes like isn’t sleeping on defense and is used the right way I think he has the talent to average double digit points off the bench a couple of a couple rebounds and assists a block and a steal and that six man of the year status I think that that is the absolute ceiling for BB Bowl And I don’t know if he gets there but it’s possible for him I just don’t know if I see a six-man in him because you have to especially at his position in particular you have to be able to sustain at a certain level on the defensive end within a team construct Agreed And he has the tools to be insulated though The tools are unignorable But the thing is though how sustainable are the things that he’s doing Because even with the scoring when he went to the starting lineup when KD went out the first like three four games was oh my god For some people bowl was amazing Oh my goodness And then after those first three or four games there was a significant drop off in the defensive production but also the offensive production A whole lot of catch and shoot opportunities generated from Devin Booker and he’s just not taking them And then he’s taking tougher shots but it’s kind of taking the offense out of his flow That’s what I’m talking about Individual talent is sensational but how does it fit into a team context and a system Everything we just got done reading at the opening of the show was Jordan is systematic with this approach Yeah Is Bo going to be a piece that fits into a system or does he have to be a player that’s given more runway That’s the kind of back and forth that I see with him But the talent again is undeniable For a minimum I’m all for it I wouldn’t be mad if if he was gone I wouldn’t blame him If he wanted to leave I’m not paying him a scent over the veterans minimum because I see that as a ceiling but I don’t see him hitting his ceiling Mhm How about another dance with an old friend What about Tori Craig Not a great season for Tory Craig who found himself on a couple of teams ending with the Boston Celtics 4.2 points per game 2.8 rebounds per game 7 assists per game shot 58.3% from inside the arc 36.4% from deep half of a block per game as well Is Tory Craig still a serviceable NBA player Stephen He is He just can’t be as high in the in the team rotation than he than he was when he was last with the Suns either the last two times actually Um at those points he was probably like uh eighth man and maybe got as high as seventh when he was at the peak of his powers in that that first He’s somebody that you would feel you would feel comfortable in a regular season night starting for you in case of injury in a pinch Yeah he’s a good pinch hitter for sure and he’s a reliable vet but Tori just doesn’t have that he at least in what we saw this past season he doesn’t have that same activity that had him is so impactful when he lost a little bit of his athleticism which was a big part for him Well I don’t I won’t go that far just cuz he was hurt for sure last season It could be for sure But I think his his impact on offense really kind of dropped off the cliff more than anything Joel says “Oh man I click on the show and y’all seriously look at bringing back TC We are cooked.” Just going through the options my guy Joel but I appreciate our options Appreciate you being here Hit that like button We got some some better names coming up for you Defensive is hilarious I’m not really wanting Tory Craig back on on this team even for a minimum I There are just other names I I’d be hoping I honestly would rather take a shot on BB Bowl with where this team is going to be next season than than Tory Craig Even though Tory Craig is probably better if you’re trying to win a championship right now at least just to have around I agree with Bover Tory Craig But again we’re just throwing out options guys We’re just How about a different option How about How about a guy that I really like as a a player who could be a part of a good team How about Torian Prince Coming from the Milwaukee Bucks this past season 8.2 points per game 3.6 rebounds per game 1.9 assists per game Shot 49.2% 2% from inside the ark 43.9% from deep one steal per game Obviously the Bucks did not have as good of a season as they wanted to but I think you got about exactly what you needed out of Tori and Prince He is no game changer Stephen but he’s still a good player Do you think this is somebody that would take a minimum That’s the that’s the kind of that’s the kind of point that we’re at with him because for as good as or regular season numbers were this is now another postseason where he’s left a lot more to be desired obviously in consideration of what his role for a team is Even with that taken into context every non Giannis Milwaukee Buck struggled in the first round of the playoffs Largely leading to what ultimately ended up being a very underwhelming showing for them in the first round against the Pacers Now obviously you want to credit the Pacers for a lot of that However that team sorely needed defense Torian Prince was one of their better perimeter defenders and he just did not have it in the first round against the Patriots Whether that was against Tyres Hallebertton whether that was against Andrew Nhard whether that was against Aaron Smith whether that be TJ McConnell he just didn’t have it And I think that’s something that’s going to work against whatever his asking price might be So vet minimum might actually be something that you can get you can get him on for a one-off type of season Joe says minimum on a contender I think he would not us though That that’s a good point Maybe though he values playing and he sees an opportunity because there is an opportunity at Ford especially if Kevin Rance’s gone for a player like Torian Prince who could play alongside Ryan Dunn could play alongside Oso Gdaro Nick Richards Devin Booker This is not a world beater This is not a needle mover He’s a good shooter He’s an all ranked defender who definitely has lost his edge on that end over the last year But if you can get him on a minimum he’s better than the other two players we’ve talked about And I I do think that that there’s a chance that he’s just a solid piece for you and he could play alongside your stars He could play alongside your role players I I I like it Ted says “Do we need a 66 guy on the wrong side of 30 who’s slowing down I I don’t think I don’t think we need him but I do think that he’s a fine option but again not not a needle mover for me I mean none of these guys that we’re talking about are needle movers because the Suns likely won’t have the money to try to go after a needle moving wing And there’s only so many needle moving wings that are actually even available in this upcoming off seasonason So these are all role guys that we’re talking about Some of these role guys obviously have a little bit more punching up in the weight class than others do Also some just flat out had better seasons than others last season as well So again we’re just informing what options and just generating some discourse for you all And the Suns just don’t have a lot of money to throw out there We’ll get to some names near the end that maybe sound a little bit better or maybe even next with with Nquil Alexander Walker as we’re going to get to that here But this is the Suns who we mentioned and they’re not going to be a destination this next year They’re not going to have a ton of money to throw around unless they do some crazy trades and I I I see them maybe wanting an established player a culture setter Ted says “I’d rather keep minutes open for guys with more upside and potential.” Would you rather have Bull or Tory and Prince at a minimum for what we expect this team to be next year Um that’s a good question Ball is just going to be the He’s going to be the the staple that we compare everybody against Would you rather have this player or Ball I would probably air on Torian just because he identifies more with the defensive end Even if his defense isn’t what it was two three four seasons ago I think there’s still a flaw there that you can help it can help to build lineups around Devin Booker And the best lineups that we’ve seen around Devin Booker are wings that can do things in a two-way manner on both sides of the floor around him Torian is someone that strikes that accord well and has done so with superstars each of the past like three or four years of his career Who’s better Royce O’Neal or Torian Prince Um Torian’s got the edge because Torian can still defend on the perimeter in ways that I don’t think Royce can in a sustainable manner anymore He’s bigger than Royce He’s a little bigger than Royce but Royce is more suited to guard bigger players if that makes sense He’s more consistent with his shooting than Royce Royce has I think higher highs but but Prince has higher floors I would I would rather have Prince on a minimum than than Royce on the contract you have him for right now For sure 100% All right before we hit our second break here great name that would be awesome on this team Not sure if the Suns would be able to get him Nquille Alexander Walker 9.4 points per game from the Minnesota Timberwolves 3.2 2 rebounds per game 2.7 assists per game 52.4% from two 38.1% from deep Played in all 82 games this year in the regular season I mean would this not be the best case scenario I think for for free agents if if they were able to grab uh Nikil Alexander Walker which I don’t know if you know this they they didn’t mention on the broadcast cousins with Shay Gilis Alexander in case you never in case you never heard they’re related That’s pretty cool I never would have guessed it Yeah Um yes he will be probably the best wing of the names that we’re speaking about today And it’s it’s for his ability to shoot but it’s also for his ability to go off script and be able to attack closeouts in a way unique from uh pretty much any anybody else that we’re mentioning um in this group of this group of wings that we’re speaking to today Also his defense has a ceiling that it can reach that others can’t get quite as high with that Some of them can get in that same realm but not nearly as impactful as high as his is This is the type of player that I fully expect to be out of the Suns price range I know Joe’s saying it in chat Michael saying it in chat MLE gonna be costly this summer This is the type of player that if the Suns were still good I would talk myself into well maybe he’ll take a discount to be on a contending team Maybe Mattbia will pay for his mortgage for free Whatever it might be you might be able to get him here the way that this team is is going and the inability to offer him a a better contract than a lot of other teams this summer I I would say this is maybe the least likely name we’ll talk about today other than a restricted free agent who is literally able to just be matched But in theory the the Nquil Alexander Walker fit next to Devin Booker next to Ryan Dunn even next to Oso next to Nick Richards there’s just so many extra layers that that he adds on and I would love to see him here but it’s it’s a long shot Yeah it’s a long shot That’s the tough part about it But he’s the archetype for players that the Suns are looking to build a roster around Devin Booker with Rangy 65 to 67 wings that can do multiple things on both sides of the basketball but also have the IQ to execute in a read and react type of manner as well Also been a part of a team that went to the conference finals backto-back seasons You don’t team defense You don’t stumble into that in any capacity So no not one bit and he’s had to earn every minute that he’s got in this league as well which aligns there you go add it to the counter with what Matt Ishb and Brian Gregory are trying to do What about names like Amir Coffee Bruce Brown Chris Buchet Jake Laavia Kelly Ubé Santi Alama Dorian Finny Smith Those are all the names we’re going to run through on the other side of our final break found your burner account Stephen says “Bulls fan here Would you guys trade up for Lonzo Ball And if yes would you trade for Lonzo Ball If yes what would you get up give up for him?” Um I don’t think the Suns should be in the business of trading for point guards specifically If he’s coming in tandem with someone else that’s a conversation to be had depending on who that someone else is But um what would they give up Well they need to get under the second tax apron first Yeah And that’s going to take away from some of what they would give up in a Lonzo type of trade but they should certainly be entertaining that if that’s on the table By the way uh Bull Lever if you don’t know we have a uh CHGO branch of All City that does a daily BS show If you’re interested in that and if you are also a fan of other Chicago teams let me real quickly shout out Big Dave shout out Matt Peek shout out Will Gotib your old stomping grounds All right let’s uh let’s look at Lonzo here Lonzo makes $10 million and Royce O’Neal makes 10.1 but Chicago does have a trade exception Um but they still cannot take on more salary Uh says that the Suns are taking on more salary but that is not true You see that That’s wrong Is that not wrong Am I tripping It’s 10.1 for Royce For Roy Yeah and 10 for Lonzo but it’s saying the Suns are taking more salary What’s going on spot track You’re wrong Uh I I think that does technically work Yeah So yeah Royce for for Lonzo works Royce in a second round pick for Lonzo Ball If the Bulls are willing to do that I imagine they’re trying to find a much higher a much better return especially pick compensation in particular Yeah cuz that’s what it sounds like they’re wanting in The Sun should not be giving up picks for Yeah The believer says they watch CHGO bowls every single day Well you’re also always welcome here but I hate you So well I hate your team so sorry about that That’s unresolved hate from the ’90s So yes which I wasn’t even really around to to feel but I I still feel it Okay Air Coffee the man once mistaken by the Denver Nuggets in arena production team as Devin Booker is a shooting guard small forward from the Clippers 9.7 points per game 2.2 rebounds per game 1.1 assists per game 52.9% from inside the three-point line 40.9% from deep 89.1% from the free throw line I’m assuming not field goal percentage Yeah from the free throw line would love an Amir coffee on this team Stephen how would he fit uh with what the Suns are trying to be next season Yeah he’s a plug-and-play wing and he can double as a point of attack defender or you can put him on wings or you can put him on smaller centers as well and you can get away with crossmatching playing to switching playing a more active more aggressive style of defense which we just got done talking about Jordan was held for from Brian Gregory So he’s a player that fits He’s not going to be expensive for you in terms of bringing him into your team He’s also a player that shot north of 40% from three last season but specifically on catch and shoots 42.1% So and that was on north of three attempts a game So he’s a player that can knock down the shots in terms of profile that you’re going to want around Devin Booker Also capable of putting the ball in the deck and getting to the basket and doing some fun things via dribble drives as well So he’s a player that just checks off all of the boxes not a player that’s going to raise your floor or your ceiling but can help you maintain and unlock some um lineup versatility in particular He would be a great fit next to Deon Booker I do think Deon Booker takes the matchup with him kind of seriously ever since they got mistaken So I think that’d be fun in practice You can never have enough shooting wings on on this team and and he would fit I always go beyond Devin Booker because you can almost talk yourself into every type of player besides a ball dominant two guard working alongside Devin Booker and with somebody who can just be off the ball and shoot who can guard wings but also play alongside a Ryan Dunn right Play alongside a Grayson Allen play alongside a Royce O’Neal an Oso a Nick Richards whoever it might be He’s definitely able to be plugged and played into there And I I just think he’s he’s consistent and his overall offensive game I think gets a little bit underrated He is more than just a a standstill three-point shooter He’s got a little bit more in his bag and we saw that when the Clippers played the Suns this past year but we have a lot more names to get through So let’s keep rolling here on PHNX Suns Hit that like button and of course hit that subscribe button Yes the bull lever Bradley Beal does have the no trade cause clause thingy and it sucks Hello to you Wow factor Okay Bruce Brown Interesting career for Bruce Brown Post Nuggets Ended up on the Pelicans last year 8.3 points per game four rebounds per game two assists per game 45.2% from two 33.3% from deep almost a steal per game at 8 Bruce Brown a little undized but does a lot at that small forward position Do you feel like he’s somebody who now would be going for a vet minimum after signing that huge contract a couple of years ago Yeah you might be able to get him on a prove it deal because he didn’t do much last season especially on the teams and with the injuries that he had and things like that But even he’s he’s still the perfect type of piece because he’s a player that can literally play one through five and has quite literally done that on both sides of the floor for each of the teams that he’s been on since he was with the Nuggets and they don’t get to winning a championship without him And I think that a lot of the successes and a lot of the things that Indiana is just now getting to which ultimately has led them to a championship run or a championship appearance at least stem from their time that Tyres Hallebertton was able to spend with Bruce Brown because Bruce Brown coming in there allowed for Tyres Hallebertton to get off the ball I don’t know if they get to where he’s off the ball with Nhard and N Smith and Seakum as comfortably as he was without the reps that he got with Bruce Brown So that’s a template for something that obviously he could bring to and with Devin Booker as well Sam man not sure about him right now There’s also some thoughts that Nicole Joic made him look good Wow factor says they would take Bruce Brown on a vet minimum Uh is a prove it deal Uh Michael says “As a Pelicans fan Brown was good for us just doesn’t fit the roster.” And I think there are specific skill sets with Bruce Brown Screen navigation being able to pick up the ball at multiple lengths of the floor being able to be a plus rebounder even at just 6’4 And I say just 6’4 because that’s short for NBA average height standards Plays a whole lot bigger than his actual size 69 wingspan One of still one of the best guardto guard screeners in the entire NBA Everything you see and value that the Celtics have gotten out of Derek White you can get that same type of usage offensively out of Bruce Brown And the fact that he would be able to do that with Devin Booker that’s something that Jordan and company certainly use with the Cleveland Cavaliers their guards being able to screen for Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell That’s something that would immediately be a plus point per possession type of action if he’s screening for Deon Booker and the actions they could get out of that Short roll is great The floater is still one of the best in the league as well very efficient type of player to put around Booker I would love him if he signed a vet minimum I think you could get him for a vet minimum but also there might be a team that’s just looking to spend a little money and all the things that you mentioned Bruce Brown can bring Whether you’re contending or whether you’re trying to to build a culture he’s not the type of player that I think is is in such high demand There’s no chance the Suns get him He probably walks that perfect line of the best value you can get for a vet minimum and the most likely to take a vet minimum that’s been a proven player I think walking away with with Bruce Brown on that deal for for a season that’s not do or die I think it’s worth a shot See how he plays alongside books See how he plays alongside the Rooks See if he’s good Get him in your building and then maybe sign him to a bigger deal next season or get him on another prove it deal Whatever it might be I I like a Bruce Brown fit here What about Chris Bucher Some eyepopping stats from Chris Bucher of the Toronto Raptors 10 points per game Of course Toronto not having the most impactful season as far as winning goes last year So all these numbers most likely inflated but the Suns might be in that spot next year as well 3.9 rebounds per game 2.4 assists per game 51.3% from inside the ark 42.3% from deep a big man that can shoot just under one full steal per game at N Do these inflated stats lead to a overvet minimum contract for Chris Buché Stephen uh the fact that no one traded for him last season feels like there is a little bit of cause to pause they might they might not necessarily see his numbers as like “Oh my god this is a piece that is going to immediately put us over the top of wherever it is we’re trying to get to.” Because of that I think he might be getable Um naturally that’ll lead to he’s a bull bull type of player and he’s not because he plays a little bit more to his big qualities than bowl does in terms of playing with contact and things like that on the defensive end in particular But he’s a piece that you can put around Deon Booker He can play the three the four the five He spent most of the time at the four and the five the last three or four seasons So he’s a piece that can give you activity give you defensive versatility give you offensive versatility Would you rather have him or bowl I’d rather have Buché Yeah I I would rather minim and still has some of those intangibles tall lanky can shoot can have the offensive outburst could play alongside like I mentioned I’m going to go through this for every single free agent How do you play with the rooks and how do you play with Devin Booker Those are the three franchise cornerstones that you’re building around right now You’ll have another one or two added after this year’s draft and then you never know what you might get back in a KD trade But how do you play alongside them I I could see Chris Buché fitting in I do not think that his stats are indicative of just how good of a player he is I think they’re slightly inflated but I I definitely see him as a as an impact player in this league in a small sense like come off the bench hit some threes spread the floor a little bit guard up and and go on from there I do think that he might be the type of player who a championship contending team that fell a little short is going to sign him on a on a vet minimum deal and and he might want to prove it on a bigger stage to play into a bigger contract For sure I can see it um a a piece that someone might add and he might not play much throughout the regular season but come playoff time not unlike Thomas Bryant all of a sudden you keep hearing his name popping up time and time again doing things in a timely manner in secondary lineups to the extent where it helps to move a team from one round to the next I think Buché has that impact in him Obviously there remains to be seen but just in watching what he’s done and what he’s kind of streamlined for success I think he can make that happen Yeah Michael Morgan with a 199 super chat Michael Morgan was the Pelicans fan from earlier Says “Great content.” Thank you Michael Thank you for being here Stick around We got great content five days a week We even post some stuff on the weekends because we like you guys so much Okay Any other thoughts on Chris Buchet or we want to keep rolling here Uh just the commonality the common denominator continues to be defensive versatility and being able to do multiple things on offense and he strikes that accord Wow factor says “Why not both bull and bouch on vet minimums?” I think there’s a little too much overlap there I I think you got to roll the dice on one I would roll the dice on Buchche but I definitely think Ball’s more likely to take a vet minimum to stay in Phoenix But in a perfect world I I don’t I’m not going to be mad if the two vet minimums that you have at the end of your bench are near seven foot or over seven foot guys with long wingspans that in theory can can step out and hit threes I don’t hate that as a concept So there’s definitely something there Uh Champy says “We’re always doing this retrospective stuff Could a would a shoulda Who cares Let’s look at the future.” It’s what we’re doing Champy We’re also doing free agent wings so stick around here Uh we’ve we’ve talked about a lot of free agents The Suns could target And next we’re talking about Jake Laoravia That’s right Jake Laavia ended up on the Sacramento Kings last season 6.9 points per game 3.9 rebounds per game 2.4 for assists per game shooting 51.3% from inside the ark 42.3% from deep #wh boy of the year 0.9 steals per game For those unfamiliar with Jake Laavia’s game how would you describe it Stephen Plug and play He’s a player that was a plus in terms of his defensive impact as a wing stopper last season And he’s also a player that was really good with his help defense and being able to understand team defense but also how to keep his team from having to not play team defense all the time because he can simply contain the basketball Was very comfortable guarding twos threes and fours last season A couple of times I saw him switched on the ones and he was able to make things happen It felt like especially once he went to the Kings every time I looked up he was making impact plays on the defensive end first and then putting that in tandem with his ability to knock down shots be a movement shooter as well as a standstill shooter but not specific to one streamline role on either side of the ball Somebody that could shoot and somebody that can play defense Don’t think he has the highest ceiling but would he fit into the culture that that Ishia and Gregory and now Jordan have been been pushing 100% I think it’d be an interesting for the price line that they’ll probably be trying to find players that if you can get him on a vet minimum I don’t hate it He’s not a world be on a vet minimum You think he’ll be I think he’ll be a little bit higher than that dude How old is he He’s not too old right He just got drafted a couple years ago Yeah he’s like 23 24 More Joe says more likely more than a minimum Yeah Can play defense and can shoot premium position No free ads but Yep Yeah No free ads on there So maybe put Jake Lorravia and the Nquille Alexander Walker category of would be a coup if they’re able to get him for a vet minimum especially being a younger player matching the age demographic that they’re looking at Yeah And another player that would fit in really well with some of the young players on the Suns right now How about a player who used to be on the Suns # Valley Boysback Baby Kelly Ubé How about those stats from a depleted Philadelphia 76ers team last year 15.1 points per game 6.1 rebounds per game 1.8 assists per game 55.5% from two 29.3% from deep but that of course is on a higher volume than I think usual for Kelly Ubé Jr 1.5 steals per game Hell of a statistical breakdown for Kelly Ubé Stephen but I just don’t know if he makes sense for this team Don’t know if he makes the most sense for the team either considering where they might end up being going into next season but Kelly would be fun And I think it’s more so because of his defensive versatility the activity that you can get out of someone like him I feel like he would align with the type of three four tweeners that can also play small ball five that Jordan is going to be hoping to find a way to kind of bring into his team context and kind of ease the burden of leaning on Ryan Dunn and Osu Gadaro for doing so much that they had to do last season He’s going to want to get paid though of course Right And he should I mean 15.1 points per game coming off This is the last chance he’s going to have to get paid Sure He dealt with that season that he had last year I I was want to make as much money as I could too Probably deal with that Didn’t he lie about getting hit by a car I wasn’t gonna say nothing about that but since you brought it up yeah I mean I’m pretty sure he lying about getting hit by a car It’s a whole thing But I’m not lying when I’m saying if you’re watching on television The party always continues over at gophnx.com which means we are in overtime with Beeswactor Michael Edward Zeke Sandman Leo Sparrow Joe Champy Andre whole crew hanging out here on a Friday afternoon heading into the weekend the right way Here’s a fun little treat for everybody who watches a lot of PHX shows This might be my second show of the day not the last I’ll be stepping in doing PHX Cardinals with Johnny at 4:30 So make sure you tap in with that as we’re going to be talking about Kyler Murray and giving us some of our predictions for the NFC playoff picture But beyond Kelly Ubé getting hit by a car we have a lot more to talk about today Two more names possibly the hardest to acquire for a couple different reasons but pie in the sky Let’s talk about Santi Aldama Santi Alama is a restricted free agent for the Memphis Grizzlies Will most likely get matched on anything that he is getting offered Uh 12.5 points per game 6.4 rebounds per game 2.9 assists per game 59.9 shooting from be from inside the arc 41.1 sorry 36.8% from deep just about a steal per game would be awesome Would only really be able to happen if some sort of sign and trade scenario Stephen that’s a tough part is how attainable is he But 610 7 foot wingspan high IQ strikes off checks off all the boxes strikes the court that they’re looking to bring in in terms of the type of players that they’re hoping to put around Devin Booker Can play the five can play the four can play the three do all three of those in one possession at times on both ends of the court Yeah And again he just gets he just understands how to make the most in playing an advantage And I think that coming from the system that the Grizzlies played last season on offense in particular I think there’s going to be some similarities with how Jordan is hoping to operate and Santi is a piece that will certainly help with all of those things Yeah this is super unrealistic because you’d have to find a way to do a sign and trade with him as a restricted free agent I don’t know how you’re going to make the money work I don’t know how even a potential KD deal would make the money work but in general Saman says in the chat Santi is exactly what we need It would be awesome to be able to end up with him in some sort of KD trade a Grayson Royce trade whatever type of trade it could be I just I don’t see him a the Suns can’t offer him enough money to even make Memphis match And if they could be I I think Memphis would match Tall versatile great shooting Saman adds in the chat as well Agree with all of those Another player who might be a little bit more attainable but has a player option with the Los Angeles Lakers is Dorian Finny Smith 8.7 points per game 3.9 rebounds per game 1.4 assists per game Shot 54.5% from two 41.1% from deep one steal per game Obviously traded midway through the season to the Lakers I believe he has about a $15 million player option Now who knows what they’re going to do with that Who knows if Los Angeles wants him back Who knows if he wants to be back in Los Angeles But you would assume Stephen if he opts out of his player option it will not be to take a veteran minimum Correct Um but again we are because he’s technically a free agent There’s a reason why we’re bringing him up at the end Less realistic That being said though north of 40% on almost four catch and shoot three-point attempts a game Mhm At 67 with a about 69 610 wingspan I believe Gets after it on the boards doesn’t mind cutting doesn’t mind screening doesn’t mind not touching the ball for eight 10 possessions in a row at times but won’t lose his touch in terms of when he needs to make a shot him being available and ready to do so He’s the exact type of vet that you would hope to have Ryan Dunn learn from but also play with and spend time on a day-to-day with as well Um issue is though I don’t know how possible of an option he is for him He would make $15.4 4 million Grayson Allen would make more than that I don’t know if the Lakers would technically be able to take that back I’m not able to check that in spot track right now If the Lakers are able to take back a little bit more money I think they’re over the cap but they’re not second apron So I don’t know if they could take back more but that would be the closest matching salary would be a Grayson Allen or Finny Smith I don’t even think the Lakers would want to do that So I yeah I don’t think they’re going to be able to do that but definitely somebody that the the archetype of a Dorian Finny Smith would be nice Okay let’s talk about realistic options And let’s just kind of do a really quick ranking here as we wrap things up on PHNX Suns here Hit that like button Hit that subscribe button Bull Tory Craig Okay those I think are two realistic options Let’s throw Tory and Prince in there Amir Coffee Bruce Brown Chris Boucher Six Mhm Who’s your number one out of Bull Craig Kafi Brown Boucher Bowl Craig Kafi Brown and Buché And Prince and Prince It would be Brown for me Number one Brown would be number one Okay Number two Number two would probably be Let’s go Um Prince Okay I’d have a Mir Coffee too Prince would be my three Would be your third Yep I I think I would then put Buché above Bull and Craig than Bull then Craig Yep Yeah Oh actually I don’t know Did we Did we mention I think when we were talking about Tory and Prince would you rather have Tory and Prince or or Bull Bowl There was a the youth part about it as well You you could talk me into BB Bowl but but straight up value for Vet Minimum Tory and Prince is has more value than BB Bowl But I I could see the angle as why you want to invest in in Bull but I think I’d rather invest in Buché What What do you think Freckled Mamba What do you think Eritton Who Who would be your pick I really like Buché’s fit Yeah Yeah What about it Jordan not There’s been a lot of talk about him being I mean the Twin Towers that they had in Cleveland I think he’s got a special opportunity to kind of work with I mean Bull Bull honestly too because he’s already here but I don’t know I think Buché for the reasons that you guys explained has a little more tools that I think can kind of use when rebuilding than BBull has Yeah I agree Let us know down in the comments below Are we missing a name Is there somebody that you would want the Suns to pursue Is it somebody that we already talked about today Let us all know down in the comments below We’ll be off on Saturday and on Sunday but we’ll be back on Monday Monday through Friday at 300 What if the Phoenix Suns selected him with the 10th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft? Would they have been guaranteed a championship in 2021? Would they have traded for Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal?

Erik and Stephen explore an alternate realty for Devin Booker and the Suns, react to Game 1 of the finals and go through free agent wings they want Phoenix to target this offseason.

  1. The def on insanity quote is the most overrated overused quote ever, it's like saying what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas and the Rome quote and left yo desired bro change it up

  2. mat ishiba messed up the timeline with players around booker so now your looking at drafting 22-24 yr olds for the future timeline and vet players 28-30 for the “win now timeline”

  3. The funny thing is, people are knocking Gregory for not having any experience but the main GM for the longest time dropped the ball on MULTIPLE names and drafted duds. Josh Jackson and Jalen Smith scream un-extensive evaluation and the latter being taken over Hali when PG was a big need is wild.

  4. Let’s be real… he wouldn’t have gotten the playing time and probably been traded for Craig!
We made the finals and won 64 games but we only seem to mention draft picks lol
