yeah I I mean I thought it was I I almost thought it was gone off the bat uh but no Car’s incredible he made a great play on it uh I mean everybody made unbelievable plays today i tried to make I tried to be a part of it in the last inning i didn’t make the play but uh no unbelievable defense all right let’s talk about the guy on the mound scoo ridiculous this season last outing seven innings the outing before a complete game today much of the same are you running out of words to describe what he’s doing yeah uh he’s he’s a horse i mean Bulldog Sai Young Triple Crown you name it you know he’s he’s our he’s everything and uh so much fun to play behind him um you know he’s uh his competitive attitude is just so contagious your solo shot 392 ft your 15th of the season take me through it take me through how good that felt to do especially at that moment in the game yeah I seen the ball well all day um missed some a couple good pitches to hit uh but stayed in it uh took some really good pitches out of bat but I knew I kind of saw his best stuff and try to put a good swing on it 32 spencer this series two of the best teams in baseball standing room only tell me about this crowd right now in this series living up to its hype yeah this atmosphere is uh electric uh you know we got great fans and that’s a great ball club over there so uh you know we got two more games um place to clean baseball and you know come out on top parker Meadows told me before the game he said “This group’s chemistry is absolutely off the charts.” He went so far to say “I would die for those guys in there.” What is it about this team that makes you guys say those things yeah I mean we’re all best friends uh we enjoy each other’s company not even on not only on the field but off the field and uh you know we play for each other and uh that’s what it’s all about you knew that every run was going to be important not just because you’re playing the best team in the AL but because you’re up against Scoo and so when they had their opportunities which again you’re not even going to have many against him it was rare to see where you get a runner to third but then PCA seems just maybe some miscommunication there at third base shaw attempting late in the game to steal gets thrown out they had some good contact pca in his first at bat nearly out suzuki late in the game eight hits off a school exactly and so like there’s little mini accomplishments happening in this game but they just needed those extra hits those extra cuz we saw the Tigers do it taking those extra bases right the first to third how that pays off so often we see the Cubs do that and so you knew that it was going to come down to the little things trying to just put the little things together because it wasn’t going to come in huge chunks against this team against Scooble but it just wasn’t their day ben Brown great outing keeping up really good this was a championship prize fight and the Cubs they were looking to find that opening unfortunately they weren’t able to get a crack in the Tigers armor let’s pick this one up early in the goings top of the first Seyas Suzuki swinging right through that one danby Swanson in the second scubble he had six punches on the day and showing the Cubs why he is one of the best in all the league yeah this is what makes him so tough just working up in the zone but then also has the change up that he works off of so you’re trying to pick it’s hard not easy man also not easy to get knocks like this off a scoo riley Green a little bit off balance right there and PCA says “I’ll turn the jets on i’ll slow them down i’ll come back to third.” Oh no out of the baseline so having a man on third and first with nobody out at least that goes by the wayside so right before he makes that turn he was actually watching the play in the outfield and that’s why he was slowing down and then there was the miscommunication with Barrier i think it was just unexpected end from PCA’s end it looked like Justin Turner not able to cash in right there but Ben Brown well that pitcher Torres that’s smoked into the big field the run would score so that gets the score started in this one one to zero gritty Tigers on top yeah and it hurt because that came right after the PCA play in the bottom of the fifth and so the Tigers answered right away all right man on second kyle Tucker says “Hey guess what i’ll switch spots with you.” That is what it’s all about matt Shaw he scores so the affair is squared at least it’s a 1-1 ball game this one closer than Bethlehem and Nazareth matt Shaw owns Scoo against him then he get the situational hitting and this was you know just kind of a a mistake a little too much over the plate from Brown but in this outing against this team sometimes you’re going to give up runs and I think overall he was attacking and throwing strikes and so this comes with the territory and overall yeah he’s going to be mad about it but overall a good day spencer for hire hitting Ben Brown with a little pizza pizza right there two to one in favor of Detroit but Kyle Tucker once again making some noise available to push some runners ahead and that’s all you can ask for in the late going of a contest yeah these this is what we were looking for right those first to third just taking advantage of the little opportunity to get Scoob out of the game because at that rate you’re wondering is he just going to go the whole way yeah 94 pitches 65 strikes and Seya put a charge into this one oh what torqulson bringing the big glove to the ballpark yeah so from the second look I don’t think it would have been out but boy would that have been nice the Cubs needed it excuse me that was Carpenter my mistake on that one either way and this one hit an absolute ton it’s Jamai Jones 374 ft it would be just enough in that game called up from Triple A yeah the Tigers a three-run cushion his second career major league home run hennessa usually filthy with this stuff but he left that one right over the heart of the plate for just too long the Cubs end up getting more knocks than the Tigers 9 to8 but it’s a runcoring competition and Detroit they do come out on top part of the reason why they are the best team in all of Major League Baseball 42 and 23 as the Cubs and they fall with their 24th loss of the season still not able to get that 40th of the year however there’s still the chance for them to go out there and make it eight straight series wins and 16 overall because there’s still two ball games they have a chance to win a series and tomorrow they’re going to have their hands full once again yeah you knew that it was going to be hard against Scooble not impossible i mean they were in this the the whole way it’s just that there were those little moments that they couldn’t capitalize on ben Brown is part of the reason they were in this the whole way as well so Scubble he this is what he continues to do he’s efficient he throws strikes doesn’t walk guys strikes him out and so that’s a deadly combination you can see no walks in this game six strikeouts goes seven and two/3 so he’s almost every time and in his last few outings he’s gone the whole way and so the goal is you want to get him out of there but it’s not easy to do because you’re not stringing a lot of things together against him so I thought all in all the Cubs stayed in it they had their opportunities didn’t capitalize on each of them but you knew it wasn’t going to be a high-scoring ball game you just had to somehow scratch across more than the Tigers and they couldn’t do that today yeah seven innings or more with uh zero earned runs zero earned runs and one earned run in his last three outings for TKO definitely a tough customer the Cubs they are glad that this start versus that man is all said and done with now Ben Brown we know how good he was he had 15 whiffs to schools 12 he was throwing it right past him 92 pitches 64 strikes you really have to tip your cap to Ben Brown all he did was go out there and battle this evening at least part of his game plan was coming out and throwing strikes and that’s exactly what he did and it shows from the line he’s efficient when you’re attacking that’s what you’re doing and he just has one walk goes the seven inning gives up seven hits the two earned runs but really not many mistakes in the ball game today still mixing in that change up a little bit which I think is good for him and all in all I think just really like he’s coming off an outing where he needed an opener that’s how much he was struggling in the first inning today it takes him nine pitches to get through the first and he’s rolling after that gets out of some jams so all in all I think you saw an intensity and a focus from him that he has been lacking and he he picked up on something in that last outing that now he’s taken with him yeah he could have flipped the final lines right there and the Ben Brown numbers could be Ter School’s numbers and Terrick Skooles numbers they could be Ben Brown numbers both of those guys they went out there and they put an aces effort fourth but for the bats like we said the ability to scratch across eight hits versus TKO a lot of teams well they would say “We would be happy if we can get hits versus the Tigers in a three series.” Absolutely yeah and so I think that’s where you knew that you had to be doing all the little things right and so that’s why you kind of nitpick in these games because when there are those moments that we can look at that’s the base runners are so valuable against scuba that when you have them out there you want them to cross home plate and so especially when you have someone like PCA and the base pads man would you want to see what would happen if he was you know just staying put there at third or going all the way whatever needed to happen but um yeah just you had your few chances couldn’t come through but sometimes that’s baseball yeah we heard Craig Consley he said traffic is trouble and Ben Brown boy did he ever limit the traffic that was out there on the base pass from the Detroit Tigers unfortunately it just wasn’t enough detroit coming out on top three to one in game one of a three-game set so let’s hear the skipper point of view craig Council with more yeah I mean we made uh you know we made made a mistake on the bases um you know that likely cost us some runs um and yeah when when it’s this close and it’s it’s tough to score um you know those things tend to come back to hurt you what did you see happen on that play it looked like people slowing down yeah I think I think Pete was slowing down q had him still going um he didn’t see him slowing down and then Pete picked him up and then Right and then um Pete started going and Pete slipped you know so you know just um you know Q’s it was it’s a kind of a weird it was a really weird play um from that perspective and and um you know probably if if if he Q could do it over i think he’d probably just try to keep his eyes on Pete a little bit in addition you know he’s trying to keep his you got to keep guys on on both people but um you know he thought there was maybe a chance to score him if if Pete’s coming and Pete saw it the other way right yeah yeah i mean they they they you know even early in the game the first couple innings they made some you know I counted five really nice defensive plays that they made to to turn balls into outs really um so credit to them for that you know good pitcher on the mound then you make five really good plays you know that that’s going to be tough so did you think Seas was out or at least off your experience i thought he hit it good um you know really high the ball felt like it carried a lot and guy made a great play what do you think the way Ben was going to finish yeah I mean the last two starts we’ve got we’ve gotten the great Ben Brown um and that’s a great sign for us and a big step for us um and a big boost of confidence for Ben so um you know he he and a credit to him right um you know things had kind of gone off the rails a little bit for three or four starts and he’s come back and you know I think arguably delivered his best two of the year um so really happy about that and then and um happy for Ben there yeah I mean this was a good baseball game um I think you know if anything it kind of highlights a lot of the stuff we’ve been doing to win baseball games right um and how hard it is to win games and that that you got to play really good baseball to win to win major league games um but you you throw that in them making some plays and you know you kind of hat tip them they they beat us tonight your view of that play that bounc that ball that ground bounced off Sean’s glove it looked like maybe Yeah that’s the Yeah I mean he doesn’t have eyes behind him and and that’s the tough play for a third baseman that that one where you’re cutting off the shorts stop um you know we got we got three hitters to get out still nice [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] look at that teams up the [Music] win your sacrifice is part of a greater plan [Music] turn [Music] darkness to darkness light to light [Music] die or something this way [Music] i know the way from the praise of the victory and all to the [Music] [Music] [Music] Falling down i die die or something light becomes hope [Music] [Music] die or something now I’m angry [Music] dark take this [Music] got a whole lot of ugly in my sight [Music] done
