too heavily on the strike out He knows he needs to miss barrels get some soft contact let the defense do work behind him And I think a guy like that can keep a good tempo don’t give time to adjust or think they can move through a ball game and you look off they’re in line for a quality start We’ll see what he’s got in this one Jonathan India the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one And that’s downstairs and outside Last couple of pitches breaking balls away I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count like this that’s going to get the swings and misses Pretty much in a class of his own when it comes to that category We go to the bottom of the first Here’s Mike Tman That one finds the zone That’s Socks One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Mike Tman tops on the team in batting average Boo a guy who’s showing off some excellent bat-to ball ability when he digs in at the plate You know that’s useful if your team needs to get an inning going get a leadoff man on but it’s also incredible to have a guy like that in the lineup because he’s a run producer who can drive in runs if you’ve got guys on base already So he’s a huge piece in this lineup Chase Maid stands in now and watches strike one Next offering popped in the air right field Kaggle Leone and there’s two away batting third catcher number seven Two down base is empty and now the switch in catcher Edgar Carol right through there for a strike Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 Was good pitch there Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge And that’s one of those if you swing at it He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout Swings through that and it’s a strike Here’s a guy at the plate and I’m expecting to have a good game He always seems to play better in road games Out to short Whips it across Barely got him for the out close play Well that was a good job to make sure he had a good handle on the baseball to get off a strong throw And sometimes guys will rush that and that’s the difference right there It ended up being a close play but he got it So up next Jack Kaggleó [Music] and first offering is fouled off Ber 25 years old and he was a third round pick in 2021 and takes low for ball one Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one Well with Simmons it’s not always your standard strike zone boog It kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others But I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent So you got to stay ready up there Fast ball in for a strike at the count One and two Yeah One of those umpires you just have to know what to expect right exactly Off the mark there It’s two and two Fouls that off to the left and will do it again No score here in the second line to left and foul ball That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes But that’s not what that pitch was Runs it up to 96 to record the punch out Belly showed a lot of conviction with the fast ball there Not just because of the velocity but also the ability to command it on the inside part of the plate The last thing you want to do with two strikes is just get too far in there and it gets away and hits the batter So when I see a two- strike fast ball bunch up a guy like that it tells me there’s a lot of confidence in that pitch The one on the ground right side Rojas throws on to first Royals set down in order Offense held in check there now to the bottom of the second We’re tied nothing nothing here on the south side And now here’s the veteran DH Andrew Benendi Benendi That’s inside Ball one Boo He never moved because he never had time to But trying to read and react with two strikes and then all of a sudden a pitch comes out of nowhere and it’s a good change up It’s just almost impossible to hit it when you haven’t seen it So digging in other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play That’s a team of bat right there Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep And maybe they’ve got something going one Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out Cana started after it tried to hold up Now a look to first and he went around according to Patrick Johnson So digging in Nick Loftton one for [Applause] three That’s a strike Activity in the Now batting second base Jonathan India So two down now and here is Jonathan India Up and in And it’s one and0 Counts one and two outs and one in scoring position [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Swing and a hard hit liner up the middle and a base hit Now a long throw home and he’s out Cut down and that ends the inning Well it’s pretty difficult to throw a base runner out at the plate with two outs on a base hit to the outfield But an excellent job of coming up with it getting rid of it quickly and throwing on the money That is great technique from start to finish Nice job to end the inning Welcome back And here comes the closer Carlos Estz Well he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him Beni up here First pitch misses Estz is what you’re looking for in a good reliever The ball stays in the ballpark It’s so hard to square him up [Applause] And the one swing and a miss Strike one Yeah He stays out of the middle and and pitches either at the bottom at the top on the edges And because of that if you do get it in the air it’s usually just a high-fly ball And when it’s down in the zone it’s on the ground [Applause] He’s so consistent that the manager basically can look at it like he’s got three outs sitting in his pocket That shortens the game That one drifts inside When he takes the mound you feel like hey this inning is wrapped or this ball game is over He’s just that good And you can see it in opposing hitters as well They know when he comes in pretty much forget about it Kind of reminds me of Mariano Rivera Here comes a 3-2 Struck him out looking Well the first batter it’s always a big one for the closer I mean you get that punch out you get settled in you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you’re going to wrap this thing up [Applause] Palasios batting with one down takes the strike [Applause] Betty really sells the change up with that arm action The Royals leading by three We’re in the last half of the ninth inning That missed inside and it’s one and two Perez steps on the bag Two up two down Now batting number 30 So they’re down to their final out Tim Elco steps to the plate for the White Socks A walk and a pair of strikeouts And that one is inside [Applause] And there’s a strike Good heater at 98 Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days I never would have had a chance Swag on belted That ball’s carrying And that one hops the wall And he’s got a double with that fast ball Even though it’s high velocity you’ve got to live on the outer edges When it’s right on a tea right down the middle professional hitters are not going to have a problem turning it around So runner at second two down Rojos the next to hit That’s a little bit low 10 [Applause] Swing and a popup Foul territory for the catcher And that’ll do it The Royals claim the win here behind some great pitching and defense He’s up to triple digits with that save 100 for his career now And he’s
