it’s on our shirts all right we are going to start today with the big story from last night which was the apparent possible rift between Stars head coach Pete Dbor and Jake Hotinger from the benching of the number one goalie in the first period last night in game five and then to Pete’s comments from afterwards um I I think it’s important to start by playing it because we played the audio we read the Twitter one and had our reactions postgame in the emotions of the moment but watching it this morning a little bit different take maybe let’s see here’s what Pete Dbor had to say postgame about pulling Jakeer and why well any anytime you pull a goalie you know the there’s the reasoning is always to try and spark your group so that was the number one reason um you know uh we had talked endlessly in this series about trying to play with the lead um and obviously we’re in a two nothing hole right away um and and you know what I I didn’t take that lightly and I didn’t blame it all on Jake but you know the reality is is if you go back to last year’s playoffs you know he’s lost six of seven games to Edmonton and we gave up two shots on on two goals in a you know uh an elimination game so you know it was partly uh to spark our team and wake them up uh and partly you know knowing that you know status quo had not been working you know and that’s that’s a pretty big sample size i don’t know about you too but after watching this now I didn’t watch it when we were on the show just played the audio saw the Twitter uh tweet and talked about it but watching it to me there’s it doesn’t seem as scathing maybe it’s just the tone and the I I think it still doesn’t sound great from your head coach and I think it’s more the actions of how he handled it in the moment the frustration maybe a little bit of the the panic of seeing the the ship sinking in the first period with that lousy start but it doesn’t seem to me to be quite as bad when you see and and hear his full comments do you guys agree disagree what are your thoughts go ahead Sam well I was there so I feel the same way as I did before um I think what you just said is perfect and I said it to you right before the show is that the way he did it trumps anything in terms of what he said afterwards the way he frustratingly threw his finger at you know telling Jake to get out maybe cursing kind of throwing it like Jake jake kind of looked at him at the whole way and was obviously very disappointed with the decision and how he did it um the one thing that stands out to me that what Pete did is he says he lost six of seven to Edmonton correct me if I’m wrong Leds that’s it the Stars left that out lost six of seven to Edmonton not Jake that’s it that’s That’s the knife that’s the dagger that’s justifying what you’re saying which could be very true but that you didn’t need to say so context Dallas had a 2-1 series lead in the 2024 Western Conference final and then Edmonton won three in a row and they won in six games with that of course big game in game six where Dallas was all over him couldn’t score and Edmonton hung on and Conor McDavid had that magical moment where he tow dragged around Muriel Hasten and scored an unbelievable goal so that’s three in a row after winning two so they lost game one last year won the next two had the lead in game four although they weren’t playing well got steamrolled and lost three so that’s three then this year Dallas won the first one so that’s one on a insane comeback and then they lose four in a row so there’s your six or seven straight games you know all the time in the one through 82 regular season thing Pete is very calculated he’s very positive he very rarely throws players under the bus or calls them out by name that’s when you use that stuff right there in games one through 70 you don’t do it now because maybe you can put that in your head that you aren’t doing what you’re supposed to do in the regular season but when when when things are on the line and you do that I I just think it’s the wrong time because if anything like what did they do with Robo when he got a goal hey Robo got a goal what do I say put him out there then get because he need he needs to feel good he started to feel good about himself and and not so much this to me and and I don’t know how they are you guys know I don’t know how tight they are as a as a team which I hear they are we hear the same I have I have different feelings because I didn’t see them tight when one of their own got crunched in the foot and never responded to either one of them clowns but you you do that you do that stuff and and that would hurt that would bother me as a captain if I heard that again it’s too late now that’s in last game of the year on that comment about standing up for their teammates do you remember the Matt Rempe he had of course you do on Miro Hkin he got suspended for it and you remember that Rope Hints immediately went after RePe immediately where was that well let’s ro let’s go to when the the savior got here remember remember when Renon got run over got drilled by was it Landis got drilled and he kind of got there and he kind of looked around I don’t know what he was looking you know again did anybody stop in there no one again I you know so that’s what I mean about how the the closeness of of a team is and again that you know it’s more important for me that your closeness that you talk about is in the heat of the battle is in the game not not when you’re done and you go to the bar or to the restaurant or Whole Foods whatever you do are You saying that your teammates’s actions speak louder than their words of course yeah i mean but but you didn’t just show that to to to Rope and to your other teammates or Well none of them showed him anything but you need to show that to them more importantly you showed it to the opponent that’s a huge point that is brutal and when you’re down that’s the most important time right when they’re down they were down what six to one in that game three or whatever it was they That’s the moment where I understand you’re hanging your head you’re you’re defeated you’re beat up you you’re mad that you’re losing the game that’s where the tightness or whatever you want to call it should rise above it and you should say we it doesn’t matter how much I’m hurting how tired we are how mad we are we’re losing this game we need to stand up for our guy here and this is a good opportunity to do it and I’m with you i I thought all season and I thought this for a couple years i didn’t think they respond well to things like that outside of maybe the RePe one and a couple other ones where I was really excited that they jumped them or whatever and I always wondered all year is this just me maybe Luds thinking this and we’re really missing something else or we’re just too wanting it to be like the old days whatever it is now I don’t think we were wrong and I think that this is a some problem or something that persists within this organization that I haven’t liked and I don’t know the answer but I don’t think that it’s been there i want to compare Luds you just said the message sent and noticed by the opponent to me and bear with me here because it’s it’s not a perfect analogy pulling Jake Hoter in the first period of the most important game of the season feels and I’m not comparing Dallas as the favorite here but go to I just was driving in today and I thought of it remember the panic that the Soviet Union Red Army team did when they pulled Treiac in the 1980 Olympics uh it was the semi-final game against the US first period and the message Luds that the US players got from watching the best goalie in the world get yanked what do you think the message was to the Edmonton Oilers who certainly were not heavy underdogs like the Americans in 1980 in Lake Placid but what do you think the Oilers on their bench felt when they saw Jake get yanked that fast in game five i I think that I think again if I’m sitting on that bench I’m not getting too excited about this i think that what I said last night is those are a couple quick goals they’re trying he’s trying to rattle a cage right now he he’s trying to he’s sending a message to the players not to the goalender i would have also said on the bench he’s going back in because I I’ve been there i’ve heard people say “That’s never happened before.” Yes it has i’ve been there when it when it’s happened i do it with our U8 team i don’t even wait till the threeminute mark in the first period if I see a soft goal going in on a goalender and I’ve watched his warm-up and I can look at the other I’m like “He ain’t ready.” And I’m gonna tell you right now the first one goes in he’s coming out right away but I will tell him that he’s going back in you’re going back in i just I mean those are young guys right sure but see this whole message thing and all this other stuff had a GM about three years before we won the cup get that little note got to go up and talk what did you do last night well at every faceoff here’s what I want at every single faceoff I want all five guys standing right here right here i don’t care if you’re at the faceoff circle i don’t care if you’re out here before the linesman blows his whistle to drop it i want all five guys standing in a circle you guys will all stand together i’m like okay and then I went why because they’re going to see that you guys are together everywhere you go if they’re going to go through one they’re going to go through all of us you’re sending a message to that team whether they pick up on that or not sure yeah but and again you know when you see it here power play faceoff that’s it yeah when they’re talking about nobody’s going to hit us on the it’s got nothing to do with what I’m talking about that to me is when a group is a group and and again that was just that was from looking from the outside look at these guys you know what I mean what and he says I don’t even care what you guys talk about he goes I don’t even care if you say anything i just want them to see you together all over the ice we go now we played in a system where we were all over the ice together you know that kind of stuff so I I just think that it it’s as important it is to your teammates it’s just important to send the message to your opponent yeah i think it’s funny to the response part about uh Rope or whatever that this team does the one interesting one and it’s it’s such a random thing but if you watched I forget who who did Sebastian Ao hit and hurt on Florida whoever he hit and hurt I can’t remember the submarine kind of hit watch the first shift that Matthew Kachchuck has against Sebastian Ao he literally chases him around the entire rink pushing him lifting his helmet over his head grabbing him and then eventually ends up tackling him and landing on top of him even if that doesn’t do much physically it annoys the crap out of him and it says “Go to the end of that go to the end of what happens with Kachchuck.” Kachchuck is sitting in the penalty box and the camera gets a shot of Kachchuck and Au skating by looking at him kind of yapping and he’s going like “Yep.” Yeah i remember what you did i remember what you did look at this all he had to do look at the screen bob one of our chats just now Dumbo ran Pavvelki in game one of the 2023 playoffs the only one to respond was Max Doi a player who had been with the team all of a month lack of any push back is nothing new and and Max Doi plays that way to this day on the team that he plays on right now i mean it’s not much but if I’m sitting on the bench and I’m I again I forget who player was and I’m sitting there seeing my alternate captain Matthew Kachchuck doing that you’re thinking that guy has my back no matter what yep that I just didn’t see up next more of this i want to play what Jamie Ben had to say and then comments from Stars owner Tom Galardi came out this morning about Pete Dbor boy we got a lot to talk about good thing we’ve got three and a half months to do it here on the DLS Stars podcast well this okay let’s continue this because Jaime Ben spoke to the media last night and you know it’s funny i was listening to it this morning and we always rag on Jamie for being pretty bland with his answers in the media but he is more honest sometimes he does a lot of guarded things and he he’s not like Matt Duchain as far as how he answers and and he doesn’t share a whole lot but there are some things that you can still glean from the captain when you listen to his media one of them is simply the emotion of how he feels and I want you to watch this he was asked about Jakeer getting pulled and we’ll get into the other comments about Jaime’s future in a minute but this is still on the Aton and Dbor and the pulling of your goalie thing here’s Jamie Ben here early in that first period the two quick goals um coach calls a timeout what was the message there and the reaction when Jake gets pulled uh pretty much wake up um start playing uh kind of let Jakey out to dry there early on and um it’s pretty much the message what did you think a little bit about the start but it’s not my call i just love when he does that sounds like he’s going to answer more and then he just just stops um just stops talking well and so hey that’s not my call but we we let Jakey hung Jake out to dry right that’s the comment of we’re in it i mean Lud’s there’s no question i know people asking about where Jamie is at his career and we’ll talk about that in a minute but as far as his loyalty to his teammates that’s never been questioned no I again I I don’t the Jamie Ben of five years ago three years ago whatever you want to call it that’s all I care about you know what I mean like I I could care less if he can speak in sentences or whatever he he he generally lets his and again he’s he’s softspoken and the way that Jaime has played the majority of his career he you know he’s soft spoken but he carries a big stick he turns into a different guy on the ice his personality on the ice is much louder than what he does in front of the camera and again I I I think that that has kind of been a way that the guy that carries the flag around here since since I’ve been around i mean you know you start with Darien Hatcher right Jamie Ben you then you go to Brennan Mororrow Jamie Ben you know what I mean like that that’s kind of it to me it’s supposed to state the identity of your team I don’t know if it does that right now well it doesn’t do that right you know and again I don’t again I’m not sitting here I think you I think there’s a great team here but it’s a it’s a really good team for one through 82 I keep saying that and there’s proof here of Okay well I’m glad you said that because I have some quotes I want to read for you guys because this connects in with Pete Dbor and our discussion i said this last night in the postgame show is that I fully expect and I kind of still do now but uh that Pete Dbor will still be the head coach of the Dallas Stars in the fall and I thought it was there’s not even a a a little glimmer if Jake can’t get over it i you guys know Jake way better than I do and I think Jake can get over this but I don’t know him that well if Jake gets over it we’re all good i think he can because I think because of what you said last night he is and this is this is a compliment he’s Minnesota nice he’s he’s a pros pro he has incredible mental strength he answers and faces media questions in game seven mornings when most goalies don’t even want to talk he sits there and chats with people he’s got a smile on his face he’s not afraid to do that so I think he can go over Go ahead Sam all I was going to say is I agree with all you just said but put aside all of his mental strength when everything was on the line you were in the heat of the battle season was on the line your coach didn’t show faith and didn’t trust you and then he said that to me is not about him getting over it that to me is how would you believe you can get over it you can forgive all that how can you in your head think that he’s this guy’s going to trust me same as nails Lquist okay so let me read to you from Tom Galardi this was from Tim Kalashaw in the Dallas Morning News published about a half an hour ago he was he said that he could still manage a laugh Friday morning when he was talked about Canadian media calling him on the phone this is Galardi they wanted to know if Pete was out they said the rumor up there was that he was out are you kidding me this is Galardi speaking he’s a top three top five coach in the league you think I want to go be going into the coaching market right now do you see who’s getting hired pete’s a seasoned coach i’m just one voice in the discussion but I don’t see firing in quotation marks Pete or in parenthesis Pete being on anyone’s agenda yeah I I don’t have a problem Pete i think you got to kiss and make up and maybe that’s not even part of it and I I think some people would say let’s just wait a couple days and then let’s have that little talk i’m against that i’m like you have it today because I want to know how pissed off he is i want I don’t want him to calm down and I want him to tell me exactly what he feels because it sounds like you know when he’s that Minnesota nice maybe in two days from now he’s really not going to say what he feels i want him to say what he feels to me so that I can respond and I want to tell I want to give him and and maybe it’s like Jake dude I’m sorry man i I was losing it if if that’s the case I would tell him like I I didn’t know i wanted to find a way to rattle i do think that he wanted to rattle his players more than Jake i don’t know i think that’s important for Pete to then say that both of those goals were stoppable let’s be honest i mean it’s Corey Perry i don’t like the play the coverage that whole thing it wasn’t a drilled it in the back of the net okay matty Yanmark Yanmar it’s a fivehole one from a guy that scores three goals in a season you know what I mean like that’s that’s an you know the expected save thing to me that’s at the top here’s Galardi i didn’t know if Jake was hurt and I didn’t know what went into the coach’s decision but it’s obviously wasn’t the start we wanted and usually when you pull the goalie it’s more about the team it’s not an indictment of Jake those weren’t soft goals that’s your owner talking not your owner but that’s the Stars owner talking okay i mean if you compare either one of those goals Luds to the one that Skinner gave up to Robertson to start the third period they’re not even close that’s a soft goal the ones that and not a curly but the reason I say this is Jake to a higher standard jake is a better goend he’s a great goalie same reason we wonder if he makes the save instead of letting in the one on Skinner or the McDavid breakaway that’s hard ass but maybe comes up with that well that y that’s a gimme that’s fine okay so last nugget here because this is something that leds you were talking about here’s the crux of it galardi said you need a a skilled team to get through the regular season you need toughness to get through the playoffs we used to have a team where everyone was big we had size but we had trouble getting into the playoffs or we missed the playoffs so we changed our approach and we went after skill so okay wait now that sounds like that’s aimed at somebody else a little higher up the totem pole saying that their philosophy was to get skill to get to the playoffs and now they don’t have the physicality part that would make them successful in the playoffs that’s what that’s what the answer is where where did Florida finish during the regular season um where did Edmonton finish during the regular season um they didn’t finish at the time no they did not all you have to do is get in who cares where you finish of course you want to start at home especially now you don’t get a good match up anymore this is just like playing a system and then changing it as you go into the playoffs you are who you are so if you want to use your skill then you better be able to win with skill because that’s what you have because as far as I remember the trade deadline is gone like two months earlier so if you if you put your team together with skill to get in they’ve been in the playoffs a lot but th this is important to bring up because there’s a difference between be and we’ve talked about this at length being on the bubble where you’re fighting for those wild card spots because you live and die every game during down the stretch and you could be in or out and they missed the playoffs in 2021 where you’re going oh gez you know if you can just get in you could cause trouble just like they got into the you know they didn’t look great got into the bubble playoffs and off they went and made a great run so Luds you’re absolutely right it doesn’t matter if you finish first but if you’re fighting for a division spot and you’re above the fray of the wild card that’s a much better place to live because you’re pretty much guaranteeing you get a ticket what What defenseman was I begging for all all season [Laughter] good one Sam thank you uh it’s nice having you here once in a while appreciate it it’s fun to be back um no why do you think I wanted Jacob Trouba here toughness bite physicality do you Jacob Trouba as a defenseman would have skated to the other end of the rank and took care of Darnell Nurse in that moment he would and he could have been here for two months and not been integrated in the group and he would have done that and Liam I started looking this morning it’s funny that this uh I don’t know what year this was but Tampa Bay let’s see they get Luke Shen they get Pat Maroon they have a Churnack they have a Celli they have a Gourd they win a couple Stanley Cups yeah 2019 they they then they get rid of Gourd because they go get him back for this run they’re not going and getting a a rent and because they know what the playoffs are about right so and then I thought of some other Hannathan Chan seth you don’t think Seth now plays Jones plays like fits right into the identity of this this team that’s playing for another cup i mean you go out and you get big strong guys that play hard in front of their net and you make it difficult i mean they Bennett Bennett I mean Kachchuck definition go down Michel or Mikola i mean look at look at look at what they put together do you think Do you think that team was put together to finish first in their division not at all the Well we’re going to keep this going i want to We’re going to talk about Jamie Ben’s future and everything um one thing that will be interesting to see is can Lean Bishell grow his game Luds because he between the whistles during play he plays with a snarly edge it’s It’s after the whistles yep can he add that to his game is that not part of his character we don’t really We haven’t seen i mean it has to be oh it’s it for sure it’s got to be he has to scratching the surface of a coach and again he’s a rookie and he’s really young 21 thank you how can you make sure that that’s part of his game because if you have Bishel’s nastiness playing the league he’s going to have to be so they they just if you want to be on team this is who you’re going to be you’re not trying to turn turn him into a goon that’s not what you’re doing that that that day is gone but you’ve got to be able to have that in your toolbox you have to have the threat of it even if it’s not you have to he’s going to have to fight someone and and literally m them and then the message is out there yeah you got a 6’6 guy 260 lbs and skates well and does all this hits like a truck oh yeah and if anybody wants to dance with them then here’s what you got coming now that’s not solving the problem though cuz Bishell doesn’t forche and knock people off pucks in the offensive zone bishell doesn’t have to go or get a chance to go to the front of the net on the power play but I will say this don’t be afraid to pull a Ken Hitchcock and take the Darien Hatcher and put him in front on the power play put Lean Bishell on the front to send a message well it’s not sending a message you’re creating a lot of space that’s true and you’re pushing people away from where they can’t get to they can’t get to the middle now on the power play and this should kind of tell you they do get to the net on a power play don’t they well there’s one less guy there it and and we’re going to talk about this next week because we just don’t have enough time today the power play wasn’t the problem for the Stars especially in this series it was better than it was last year could have been even more effective yes the penalty kill became the problem after it being part of the solution all year and through the first two rounds and we’re going to talk about that next week when we have some time for it but up next let’s talk about Jaime Ben’s future foreseeable future yep if you’re here next year what needs to change for you guys to get that next step just look in the mirror you know we all can be uh a little better here obviously he’s feeling the emotions of it that’s part of why I wanted to play that how can you tell why do you even play those i love his because there actually is something to see there even though he doesn’t give you anything because I think in I see him not giving you anything that’s what I see but Luds I I’m and maybe I’m overreading this and maybe the interpretation isn’t there but I see that as he has no time in that moment to answer any of those questions because he has no thoughts that he isn’t playing for the Dallas Stars next year and he has been always to me he’s been someone if you ask him a question about himself he gives you that answer if you ask him a question about a teammate or his team he gives you a real answer and that’s that’s what I’m seeing there and I’m I’m seeing what I what I did not see last night and I was not looking super closely but walk watching him skate off the ice he’s the last one off the ice after they salute the crowd i didn’t see a any moment of him going looking around the last did that four years in a row at playoff loss as he sat there and every single guy you really thought it might be the the end right well he also had like three broken legs and a collapsed lung after all those playoffs but I mean that’s just I mean that’s that’s could be small but that to me looks like someone who is 100% confident that he’s going to sign a contract any day now and be a Dallas star i know he doesn’t like talking about himself as Sam just said he’s absolutely right he doesn’t you get great stuff from Jamie if you ask about a teammate or something else but I think that I you can get some emotion from that ls i think he bleeds for this team and I think I mean you remember we’ll never forget the the shot from the we’re not going home documentary in the bubble when they lose this game six of the Stanley Cup final we’re not going home totes was on my flight that was stuck in there did I Did I not tell you guys something about playing that that didn’t cause him to lose this series don’t you don’t do those things that didn’t come from here i I hate it like you’ve never won that you’ve Have you ever won any one of these what’s that championships like this you don’t do that kind of stuff you don’t as play you don’t do that i would I would ask the players can you can we put this up here you know how many players would say because you’re saying they played at the arena yeah because you know Hudobin was there i don’t care if he was there or not you don’t do it so you’re saying that having Hudobin in the AAC and doing that to get the crowd going it’s just the clip it’s what he said they I hate it and I’m telling you how many other players hate it if you don’t think these guys are superstitious you’re crazy they’re They might not let you know sometimes every guy has got quirks i watch I watch Jamie Ben change his stick tape five different times during this playoff run i know that I know they’re superstitious they are definitely superstitious whether they admit it or not jaime Ben uh any at all thought that he won’t be playing for the Dallas Stars next year because we were talking about that with Sean last night and he said there needs to be a a culture shift a leadership change i can’t believe he said Miko R team it’s an interesting idea but what about Jamie um I mean the only one that’s gonna if Jaime’s not back is because Jaime doesn’t want to be back or because he feels that it’s I don’t think he wants to play anywhere i don’t you know and and to be honest with you what what team if they feel that he’s you know sliding a little bit is going to bring him in you know a contending team Jamie’s not going to go to a team that like I don’t know San Jose or something like that that’s not the point I he’s not going to go cup chasing you mean well I mean like Cory Perry or anybody Yeah but you know what I don’t even know so much about cup chasing but with with Perry because they’re bringing him in because they feel he brings an element that they don’t have and that’s what Edmonton’s doing should they Stars go get Cory Perry and he’s proving it they’ve already had him i know should they lost they went to the final though well right now Cory Perry is not leaving Edmonton and I don’t think Edmonton wants Cory Perry to leave him is Cory Perry more impactful than Jamie Ben yes yes 100% exactly but here’s my question for you lads and let’s just I don’t think and maybe that could be with playing with you know again playing with 97 and 29 and guys like that maybe that’s what it is i don’t know i think Jamie would do that if he played with 24 and he played with 53 Wyatt at the time he might but I I think he’s got relegated to where he is and they’re leaning on again I would like to see similar again I I get that the the Raton line took off with those three guys for sure but I like it when there’s meat on each one of those lines very similar to what Edmonton has done edmonton’s saying you know I got a banger on every one of these lines now they can compliment the other two guys that they play with which is always part of it and so when Heyman went out it to me he was just the natural guy to go there just because he plays more like Heyman he plays like an older Heyman he goes to that way he scored the power play goal he goes there he stays there he stays in the fight he he brings people in and they want to punch him in the head and everything else i just The wayman played in the playoffs yeah he’s just a He’s a little bit olderman is what he is it just makes sense for them to put him up there and he can skate pretty well to keep up he still moves well and he does not like being asked about his age and it’s going to be interesting this series if if anybody watches it how it all unfolds with him in there and him and the Kachchuck well it’s going to be a big deal that they don’t have Heyman now they have to lean more on Perry or Vander all the extracurricular he’s going to drag they’re going to see stuff in front of the net you know what I mean like he’s going to be himself i’m curious LS and I don’t think Jaime Ben’s going anywhere that’s my my opinion but do you think you just said the word impactful do you think Jaime Ben is as impactful as Cory Perry if he’s on a different team not wearing a C on his chest i don’t know if the C drags Jamie down that’s the real question i I don’t I don’t think it does i think I think if anything he wants to live up to it as much as anybody wants to talk about it it just may be the fact of not being able because again there was a time when you can finish checks if you don’t arrive at the very same time you can you could follow through and I’m I’m wondering if any if that hit on Stone where you know that whole thing that happened if that Well that was more than a hit that was my point of that did that change him a little bit to not take that penalty i don’t want to be that guy that takes a poor penalty anymore the problem though he’s still taking a million penalties but they’re not that way but they’re not that way i’d rather him go take a penalty cross check him in the face than Yeah you’d almost rather him have said “Well okay we lost that game and he didn’t help us by taking those penalties but you know what he sent a message that we won’t tolerate you going after our best players.” And he didn’t do that now it’s not just on him it’s on the whole roster for not responding on on the Oilers at all and and Luds there was barely any there were more aftercurricular stuff in the in the Colorado series and the Winnipeg series than there was in the Oilers this is a conference final and we saw very little pushing and shoving but it was one significant play it was on your number one center on your number one center away from the puck yeah and I mean my again I said this enough it my thing was is when they saw no push back they saw nothing becauseard when Bousard went after him right in front of the bench again and there’s nothing again i’m telling you guys upstairs from Edmonton are going we got this we can do whatever we want yeah we Exactly we got this thing i want to say this real quick cuz on that on that play I I was getting screamed at after I posted something about just the Stars not responding to that Bushard slash i wasn’t saying that that play should have been a penalty or worse the nurse one should have been a suspension or anything worse the main focus for me wasn’t that Edmonton was cheap and dirty or any of that stuff it was that Dallas wasn’t doing any of it and I got the response of like “Oh you injured your guys injured Heyman.” I was like “You mean Mason Marchman when he completely missed the hit and happened to hit his arm?” Like none of the plays that Dallas did that actually injured their players were a response or something showing them a message it was a clean hit by Petravic and a missed hit by Marchment that ended up hurting their guys so that’s the response I wanted and the other thing is is that it’s not for me it’s not just the chop on hints two of them I’ll call not chops you know what I’m talking about the little taps if it happens to steal I expect the same response i don’t care who it is on your team if it’s your best player or your 12th forward or sixth defenseman if it’s Lean Bishop and somebody gets a shot on him you got four guys five guys standing right next to you it shouldn’t just be your most important player to elicit a response a team thing is thing and it sends a message is it at all worse that it didn’t get a response and it was one of your most important players well the the the the initial one by nurse Yeah was yes I agree but the second one the booard one is on inexcusable what happens if to not respond if if it’s if it’s flipped and Dallas slashes McDavid in the first game right hurts him then the next game when McDavid finally comes back they slash his foot again purposely trying to hit the exact same foot what happens to the guy who does it well I don’t have to say it you know exactly what happens and and they and they might as go as far as remember when I said I would throw Brendan Smith in the lineup they might go as far as taking if they’ve got one of those guys they may take someone out and put that guy on there and go you know what we’re responding to this and if that and that if that he’ll be the sacrificial lamb we may have to kill off a five minute but we’re sending the message right now yeah he’ll be out but he’s going to know who he is he does his part but again that and I understand the whole part of well okay let’s see you got hints well then go after McDavid go chop McDav’s ankle i love that or or go chop Bard’s ankle or you know one of their top players and say we’re not going to we’re not going to waste our time getting back at Nurse nurse here’s what you just did now we’re going after McDavid and yes he’s watched a little bit closer and he probably should be but the point is is this is how we’re going to at least there’d be some kind of a response and Jamie Ben did that right was it who was who told was that Jens told us that story about Ben doing Yeah he on when he went to the bench he just looked at the bench and he said I’m not going after him after Yeah and that that’s another way of doing it isn’t that surprising that that we know he’s done it before so guys we have a super chat about this christopher with a Lungquist and a year after the cup i knew the series was over when no one put Nurse on a stretcher after that BS chop the 99 team would have done something and that’s the difference yeah and and and be that’s perfectly said and it doesn’t have to be putting him on a stretcher yeah agree it’s just the fact that you got to stand up for your teammate yeah you just make you want that person who did that to think I’m probably not going to do this again because I don’t want that guy to do what he did and I’m more and I’m with Luds and Sam both i’m more upset about the lack of response when Buchard did it in game four than I was about Nurse with what he did in game two because you said it Luds that chop that’s a play that they go back and forth forward at the crease and the defender whacking each other all the time i don’t know if that was an intentional trying to injure or just trying to let him know you come to the crease you’re going to pay the price i don’t know if that was insanely dirty it was unfortunate that he suffered an injury it was very admirable that Hints came back games four and five and played as well as he did knowing that he’s clearly not feeling 100% and he almost caught McDavid last night with one bad wheel but the Bard one you can’t that that says it all i was actually even kind of surprised it wasn’t one of his comrades you know one of the fins like a fin sticking up for a fin and the other thing is there’s another team over there i explained the other every other night too and at the time there was two of But they’re watching that too and they’re knowing that if that team makes it through and we get through look at this no Florida’s fully aware of two minutes they didn’t even go up i’d love to see what like this team I I truly believe it i said on the pregame show yesterday I think this team ran out of gas i think they purely did and it’s not an excuse that every team runs out of gas at this time of the year but Dallas looked like a team that was out of gas they had optional skates every single day they had But they were doing that during the regular season they were but I’m just saying you looked at the yesterday i think they had more gas in this series than last year i think last year they ran out of gas i think they ran out of confidence when they couldn’t score and get the lead but I’m wondering if the if this team is at full health first round remember I mentioned if it was one versus eight it’s Edmonton Dallas first round it was the series in general but I’d also love to see I’d love to see if they responded to that type of play earlier in the playoffs i don’t think they they would have let’s keep talking about this we have some McDavid got that trophy I stayed and didn’t go downstairs right away i wanted to see he was pulling it away from daily he was like “Give me this thing.” And he got up there he touched it he He made it clear we’re touching it and he was like “I want this let’s get this done.” He wasn’t waiting for a picture he wanted to get on and I’m wondering what they’re going to do if they make it back next year if they don’t win this year what do they do he doesn’t go over and skate he doesn’t go maybe go over and kick the ice drop kick the thing into the corner um I something that I want to ask you guys both because I we could wait till Monday but then things might change so let’s talk about it before we find anything out should the the Dallas Stars send Alexander Petravvic and or Liam Bishell down to the AHL to rejoin the Texas Stars who just played game one of the Western Conference final in Abbottzford last night they lost in overtime because my first thought is they’re the only ones eligible so they can be done is it a good idea or is it bad what are the pros or cons of doing that because I’ll tell you one thing if you added Bishel and Petravic to an already good Texas Stars team they could be the favorite to win the Calder Cup this year i I think I probably may with with Petro not Bishel though agreed i I I just think Well I think he’s had a he’s had a good year he’s kind of come through the process and all that kind of stuff but I I would also ask him you know that’s a Yeah I I would I would I would have a conversation with him but I think Leon has kind of done enough to separate himself from that now you’re not this you’re you’re this now and now we keep moving forward it’s funny when you mention those two guys where do you think they are well I’ll just tell you where they are that’s not going to play this game they’re 188 and 192 in the plus minus lean is even and pro I believe is a minus in the playoffs in the league in the playoffs yeah in the right that’s it there’s no other no there’s nobody above them that has a Stars jersey there’s no one so they’re the highest plus minus of anybody on the stars and then in the top that says a lot more about the rest of the roster top 30 in five on five scoring there’s two guys who are they for the Stars yep male Granland no no hints no come on oh it’s it’s got to be the guys that scored that weren’t on the power play no steel was like and how did you No you know who who you think second guy is well if he if he’s number he’s actually third okay who do you think the the next guy is for Dallas it’s ob Yeah randon had plenty of numbers it’s not Harley nope sam Steel oh yeah ah yep okay because there’s those are the two stars players in the top 30 five on five scoring they f five goals in five games in this round didn’t do enough at five on five and when it mattered most the penalty kill didn’t do what it had done all year and we’ll talk about that on Monday because that’s a big segment i think that might even be our lead is what happened to the penalty kill in the conference final how many goals did the star score in this series no no we have to get to a couple things write write that note down be way bigger well maybe he deserves it maybe there’ll be another one with We’ve all We’ve all said this there there is nobody as good as Razer calling hockey games i mean the the lingo every the way he describes a game his laugh is infectious you know everything he does he is he should have been there he should have had it a long time ago yeah he’s and I will say this on the other side of it great guy to be around in terms of at the rink he’ll after uh this last game in Edmonton game four he saw me in the press box 15 20 minutes conversation breaking down plays talking about the game going deep he’s always for at least me he’s always there to go the extra mile to talk about the game and that’s I think that goes a long I love it when he’s breaking down goalies and all this stuff cuz he just sucked as a goalie like his numbers are brutal right congrats but I but I tell you this but also we’re happy i was never as pissed off like for me that can’t score anyways so when Eddie was here right Eddie would always get a day off so who would be the second goalie that comes in razer i can’t even score on the announcer in practices it’s good for the confidence uh we’ll be back on
