ton of walks Chris they take a more aggressive approach than some of the other teams in the league They definitely have a few free swingers in this lineup Hitters who want to be on the attack and that’s great as long as you got pitches in the zone But if the pitcher is able to expand the zone can be very difficult for an offense like this to get going You’ve got to somehow draw some walks put some runners on base so that when you do have those free swingers come up you can cash in with some runs that are plated The old one That one ripped but fouled One out Base is empty Next pitch inside and a count one and two Swing and a miss Struck him out Two out Well that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count And as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding the zone when hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really swings and blasts one deep to left center and that one hops the wall and he starts his afternoon off right with a double Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat put a really nice balanced swing on it And when you can rope one into the gap like that you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple contact let the defense do work behind him And I think a guy like that that can keep a good tempo don’t give hitters time to adjust or think they can move through a ball game and you look up they’re in line for a quality start We’ll see what he’s got in this one Lawrence Butler the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one Butler goes 6′ 3 in 24 years old and he was a sixthround draft pick back in to get their hits but they’re also going to get those home runs and have runners on base which is multiple runs out of one swing So yeah you really have to try to manage a team like this and keep them Well the first batter it’s always a big one for the closer I mean you get that punch out you get settled in you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents difficult guy to get hits off of It’s really rare for teams to string stuff together against it He wins every pitch And for a hitter sometimes a victory is just fouling off one of his pitches [Applause] Unless he beats himself somehow can’t find it doesn’t have the control command that day you can pretty much forget about it [Applause] Hard on the ground to first takes it himself Two up two down If you want to be a great defense you have to deliver consistently It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff Just like we saw The Athletics down to their last out now The left fielder Brent Rooker [Applause] Swing and a miss as he was late that time As a hitter there’s even more pressure to take advantage of any mistake right Yeah And you’re hoping that you know somehow someway whether it’s a hit by pitch a wall something bad happens because outside of that stuff is just too good to fail This could end it Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again Two-run game A two away here in the bottom of the ninth [Applause] fouls it back with two strikes And he’s got deception in his delivery And it’s not that he’s trying to deceive the hitters He just has this natural flow that makes it hard for hitters to pick the ball up It gets on them a little bit quicker than they anticipate Even though they know what the velocity numbers are Got him And that’s the ball game The number seven is such a cool and sort of lucky number Well this team has been playing really well but to win seven games in a row Uh there’s been some luck and there’s been some really good play I think you get to this point you start to look at can we double that Make it double digits make it two touchdowns make it 14 Two nothing your final here in this one
