πŸ”΄ MLB LIVE πŸ”΄ Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays | Jun 9 | MLB The Show 25 Full Game | EN VIVO

from the hallowed grounds of Fenway Park the show has an AL East matchup it’s the Tampa Bay Rays squaring off against their hated rivals the Boston Red Sox first pitch coming your way next so just about set now and today’s starter Walker Beller and Singi we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots well he’s been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it’s the release point maybe it’s the motion but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side josh Low leading things off and takes the strike this is a hitter who takes his game to another level playing at night waves at the defender for the strike out and now it’s Brandon [Applause] Laauo and first offering is fouled off one out base is empty that one pushed to the left and fouled andy O2 strike three and that’s two in a row no anytime you can punch out the top two guys in a lineup to start an inning you got to be feeling pretty good out there in the mound because when you think of just having a distraction table setters on the base paths and all of a sudden you’re dealing with a number three hitter any distraction can cause you to serve up a cookie and instead of it being a solo shot it’s a two or three-run homer next offering is down low two outs that one is blasted left field towards the monster onto the track and he makes the catch we head to the bottom of the first no score after a half inning back here at Fenway Park and today’s starting pitcher Zack Latell what do we need to know here about the right-hander well he’s allowing just over one base runner per inning which is really good especially for a starter because these hitters get to see you two three maybe even four times in a start so just shows you how deceptive and how effective his stuff is we’ll see if it’s that way in this one we go to the bottom of the first so stepping in for Boston Jiren Durant [Applause] out to short waltz whips it to first on the run eddie gets him nicely done check out the Red Sox lineup they do a lot of things well in this offense Singy they control the strike zone they make pitchers work hard for outs and as a result one of the better OBP teams in the league well what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy whether you go to instructional league whether you go to spring training you see these guys even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter they’re practicing that type of approach and when you have that filtering through the organization even when you call off a player he steps right in and continues with the pattern that they have established at this level which ultimately leads to a lot of success it’s through for a hit so they get a man aboard with a one out single you know you translate on base percentage it’s basically this teams that have a high on base percentage they don’t make outs at a very high rate as my buddy Joe Sheen says OBP is life runner on at first with one gone and next for the Red Sox Willard Abrau that one finds the zone strike one foul ball there des over at first with one away and a swing and a miss that’s out number two first strike out for him in this one and that splitter is maybe the go-to pitch when he’s looking for a swing and miss like that he throws it quite a bit and that’s a good example of the effect it can have on a hitter carlos Narvz in the box now no balls in a strike hammered down the right side but foul and he chases that one that is the inning and the Red Sox leave one scoreless after one back inside Fenway Park all set for the start of the unit now for Tampa Bay Jonathan Aranda Beller measures 6’2 in 185 lbs he joined the team as a free agent come on Walker walker Beller will go back to work in for a strike it’s 0 and one well the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count he cannot afford to go deep in the counts doesn’t have a ton of swinging missed stuff so he’s going to have to work efficiently next offering way off the plate got him looking that’s a strike out everything in that bat is away until the final pitch three pitches in a row on the outside part of the plate and of course that gets you conditioned to look out there maybe a little bit out on your toes so a great call on pitch number four to just hit that inside part of the plate and freeze him for strike three jake Mangum getting ready to hit called strike right there second inning here no score walker bunting for a hit it’s safe at first the bunt single nearly a highlight reel play at third but the bare hand grab still wasn’t enough to get the out great effort to make that play as close as it was though man at first with one gone so next to the plate for Tampa Bay Jose Cabierro that is upstairs for ball one and there’s the strike on the outside corner woody Keller making the calls behind home for us today and B something to keep an eye on is how pitchers utilize the top part of the strike zone we see a lot more of that in today’s game with pitchers going up there with hard stuff keller definitely an umpire that isn’t afraid to call strikes up in that part of the strike zone hamilton oh behind the back to first not in time great effort there batting seven catcher Matt Dice [Applause] matt th comes up to hit here up and in and that’s ball one one ball no strike beller look to first cabierro back on a dive that one well upstairs two and 0 swinging a drive deep right field arau on the move that skips over the fence so it’s an automatic double well this tends to happen more often in this park than others and that short fence is just so inviting for hitters you see a lot of balls bounce over for an automatic double when no one can run it down curtis me now at the plate and fouled off in the air out to center and that’s the third out so the Rays strand a pair we’ll go to the bottom of the second no score [Applause] back in Boston we head to the bottom of the second now it’s the DH Abraham Toro abraham Toro Latell back to work fouled off he was late [Music] and ball one ground ball right side but it kicks fouled and a one two two two [Applause] fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts batting six and stepping in for Boston Marcelo Meyer right side hard hit already two out here in the home half of inning number two batting seven shortstop Trevor Story here’s Trevor Story now this lineup’s going to have to find a way to make him work a little harder out there on the mound i mean he is just mowing him down he’s settling in you got to make him uncomfortable maybe step out of the box call timeout do whatever it takes and there’s a foul ball two down the shorts stop takes a ball the 1-1 is fouled off two out space is empty that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was bounced up the middle now the throw to first on the run in time got him red Sox go down one two three we’ll move to the third with no score and we’re back here in Fenway Park top half of the third inning now it’s the shortstop taylor Walls way high there and it’s one and0 that one the other way makes the grab one away it’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting the line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you’ve done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control late swing fouled to the left that’s a strike thanks to the sweeper top of the third no score pitch misses there and it’s one and two [Applause] and that’s downstairs and outside misses just off the outside edge i think that was a strike caught a break right there pretty good pitch on the outside corner knocks that one away and we’ll do it again three and two the pitch is outside and ball four it wasn’t easy but he earned that walk after a long bat laow at the plate struck out looking at his first at bat that’s in for a strike [Applause] swing and a highfly ball out towards right field hauls it in and there’s two away now batting designated hitter Junior Camero now here is Junior Camero fly to left his first time right through there for a strike 01 runner to go in the dirt safe at second and he easily steals the bag you know what i like the aggressiveness right there it looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one really good pitching so far so why not try to put some pressure on him and see if you can steal the bag get in the scoring position buer turns kicks fires and a foul [Applause] [Applause] ball that’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss third foul ball in a row and that skips into highf fly ball out to center field he makes the grab and that is that one left for Tampa still no score back here in Boston as we go to the last of the third here’s a speed threat david Hamilton and that’s outside and that’s ball one one ball no strike just missed [Applause] and there’s a breaking ball that drops in there that’s a little bit low just doesn’t seem to want to throw him a fast ball fouls one away and now three and two spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another it’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahead run batting ninth center so stepping in for Boston Son Raphael good defender he’s been inconsistent offensively he’s a guy Chris’s highlights include some of the best throws from the outfield that you will ever see definitely one of the best arms in the sport yeah the infielders and the catcher can never give up on a play because if this guy thinks he has a chance he’s going to throw it from the warning track if he has to [Applause] latell throws to first hamilton gets his lead at first nobody out that one catches the corner for a strike this is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play [Applause] and a swing and a miss make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today well when you throw the same pitch back to back that’s how you want to do it set him up in the strike zone then extend a little bit from there and see if you can get him to chase nicely done with the slider right there now batting Jiren Durant grounded out his first time off hit on the ground might be two fires to second for one return throw to first got him double play and that’ll do it nothing doing for the offense that time on to inning number four we’re tied nothing nothing start of the fourth and stepping in for the Rays Jonathan Aranda aranda sliced hard but fouled down the left side in the air fairly deep to right field abrau on the move drops into the glove and there’s one down up next for Tampa Bay and here is Jake Mangum he’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game that clips a corner this guy’s definitely a plus runner but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time never takes a break it’s guys like that even though they don’t have the elite speed the fact that they’re consistent with it they make moves on the base paths swinging a miss that one in the dirt one ball two strikes battling here as he fouls it away pitch is in the dirt it’s two and two and it’s fouled off they’ll do it again all tied up top half of inning number four spoils that one and it remains two and two just off the outside edge really good take especially with two strikes in the air left field durant sizes this one up hauls it in for the out two down now batting third baseman Jose Cabayro now the third baseman Jose Cabayro 0 for one he hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time he swings and fouls one off next offering is in for a strike [Applause] ball one there swing and a miss curve ball in the dirt up with it fires to first got him inning over on the strikeout nothing across here this half on now to the bottom of the fourth no score back here at Fenway john Chami and Chris Singleton with you and leading off the bottom of the fourth Raphael Des let’s go close but called a ball one and0 you know these Red Sox just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the zone we’ll see but I think they have to the one-1 fouled off left side the wine to kick the pitch on the ground right side finds his way through base hit and a good start to the inning back against the wall with two strikes but found a way we’ve all seen the defensive shift make a big difference in defending against goal hitters but it’s not foolproof he pulled it as expected but he found a hole that time and next for the Red Sox Willard Abrau that misses the zone ball one 10 des on at first nobody out in the air to left down the line mangum sizing this one up makes the grab and there’s one away now batting the catcher Carlos Narvay carlos Narvz digs in now he struck out swinging at his first at bat and that’s downed away maybe a two ball five four three double play and the inning is over no runs one hit no errors and no one left we’re headed to the fifth we’re tied nothing nothing back now with Venway ready now for the fifth inning here’s the catcher Matt Th beller back to work on the ground to third meyer to first and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth oh he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution now it’s the second baseman Curtis Meade 0 for one with a fly out swing and a ball hammered left field durant going back bangs off the wall safely into second he’s got a double went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle he absolutely ripped that ball out front and almost got it out of here man just a really strong balanced swing and a fraction of an inch different on the bat and it is probably out of here now let’s see if they can put up the first run of the game here’s the shortstop at the plate taylor Walls delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 no ball one strike man at second lifted in the air down the left side durant under it pulls it in on the warning track now batting right fielder Josh Low [Applause] josh Low next to hit for the Rays he is struck out and he is [Applause] walked tap foul at the plate runner at second two down and we’re in the top of the fifth and that one fouled off and a foul ball he stays alive man on second two down fast ball is outside one ball two strikes [Applause] and the next pitch is way outside ball three full count ruer at second two down [Applause] foul we’ll see another payoff pitch buer deals high in the air out to right brings it in and that’s the third out the Rays strand just the one and we’re still knotted at zero back here in Boston bottom of the inning now at the plate abraham Toro hitter abraham Toro all right right back to him on the mound and that’s the first out in the bottom of the fifth off speed pitch and it looked like he just continued his momentum towards home plate after releasing that perfect position to make a play and help himself out and stepping in for Boston Marcelo Meyer grounded out his first time right down to shoot and that’s strike one well he’s been incredibly efficient in this one first pitch strike percentage over 70% that’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point [Applause] swing and a ball softly hit out of the left center walls snags it for the second out that’s a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch we all know those can be a little tricky especially if the wind swirling around out there trevor Story comes up to the plate and that drops in for a strike if I’m at the dish right now I am aggressive over the heart of the plate this guy’s been filling up the strike zone so you know you’re going to get a good pitch to hit and as nasty as his stuff is you might as well take all three swings two outs foul ball it stays nothing and two on the ground caviierro fires across the diamond red Sox go one two three he continues to roll on the mound as five shutout innings are in the books and we still have no score back here at Fenway Park now the number two hitter Brandon Laauo first pitch and he just misses well these Rays as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate chasing pitches has been a big part of the story we’ve seen it quite a bit today it’s been tough for them to make contact at times and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group line drive rip down the left side towards the left field corner around first digging for two throws to second not in time that’s a leadoff double everything came together for him really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws a chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run next is the designated hitter Junior Camro go for two in this one and that one upstairs and on the mound you know confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses he’s had them eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game with the go-ahead run standing at second and we’re in the top half of the sixth and that is out of play man at second and a curve ball is just outside good pitchers make pitches in big situations and right here with a middle of the order hitter up runner in scoring position he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike and ball four to a board that could jump start an offense that’s really struggled to score in this one don’t want to wake a team up with the free pass go ahead run on base jonathan Aranda the next to hit just missed one ball no strike yeah that’s fouled off and that misses Jul and one tough spot right here a couple runners on two ball count you can’t nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it’s going to bring in some runs on the ground a second might be two there’s one on the first in time double play oh man what a smooth double play that was a thing of beauty from start to finish [Applause] jake Mangum next to hit for the Rays he has singled and he has flyed to left and the first pitch misses for ball one two outs two balls no strikes to count that one pulled foul no score yet but a runner at third with two away fly ball center field raphael he’s got it and that’s the third out so another good inning for him on the mound six shutout innings now no score [Applause] bottom of the six david Hamilton second baseman David Hamilton slap the other way foul you know these Red Sox just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one they’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority but it’s just not happening for him so far zero extra base hits in the game so it’s been tough for him to get anything going and that one moves his feet fall no full count bows it back with two strikes [Applause] and a swing and a miss now five strikeouts for him on the mound that’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across especially in terms of movement that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment if he keeps it down it’s just so tough to put wood on raphael stands in now and watches strike one pretty frugal guy he is very efficient with the pitch count in this one sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have runners in scoring position because they put themselves there that’s the third and foul ball that’s off the inside corner two balls two strikes to count chopped left side walls whips it across he’s out and that quickly two away left fielder Jiren Durant digging in it’s the speedy outfielder Jiren Durant that one is absolutely belted this one could be trouble around first heading for two he’s there it’s a two out double oh no waiting around right there he was ready to swing it on the first pitch just a cookie down the middle i mean those are the ones you dream about one’s in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it so runner at second two down and here is [Applause] De’s one in the dirt but no advance that’s ball one swinging a ground ball up the middle in plenty of time to first and Debor is set down that’s the inning one left for the Red Sox and we are still scoreless now pitching welcome back we’re in the seventh we have a new pitcher on the mound Zack Kelly and he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year typically at least one in innings so he’ll be tough to get to here’s the third base Jose Cavier third base Jose Cavayo that one finds the zone and one well we call that keyholeing even though it’s right there and looks pretty good if he doesn’t love it he’s not going to swing that early in the count next pitch misses way outside the one-1 is fouled off 2-2 still two and two after the foul ball good job to fight that one off swing and a miss and he got him he battled for a long time but it finishes with a strike out you can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little [Applause] anxious and here’s the catcher Matt Thice one for two first pitch doesn’t find the zone fast ball for a strike action in the pen down there garrick Crochet the left-hander up and throwing bernardino warming up as well pitch misses and it’s two and one and misses inside base is empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven gets a piece there we’ll do it again swing in a miss blew the express right by his back for strike three chance to strike out the side now you talk about the benefits the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat tell you what that’s huge and can change the ball game curtis me getting ready to hit first pitch misses one ball no strikes and that’s in the dirt ground ball up the middle rays retired in order [Music] back in Boston set for the last half of the seventh now it’s the right fielder Will Abrau abrau seems like the hitters are struggling with their timing today kind of caught in between that sharp fast ball and the nasty slider i’d like to see him settle on a consistent pitch misses outside and that’s ball one well a mistake right here could untie this ball game if you’re the pitcher out there you just want to be a little more cautious in for a strike and the count one and one the 1-1 is fouled [Applause] off to short walls and the leadoff hitter set down to open the seventh now batting the catcher Carlos Narvz and next will be the cleanup hitter Carlos [Applause] Narvz on the ground right side slings to first and a couple of quick outs come on now now batting designated hitter Abraham now here’s the Red Sox DH Abraham Toro and the first pitch misses for ball one got it started a little too early strike one and it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today good fast ball excellent slider but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there next offering is fouled back two down doan swinging a ground ball over to first three up three down inning over new pitcher for the Red Sox Renan Bernardino coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year his numbers in those matchups are very good so digging in Taylor Walls clips the corner that’s strike one meanwhile activity in the bullpen aldis Chapman the closer is getting loose one and fouled [Applause] off and that one almost got him straighten him up a little bit and that skips in the dirt [Applause] [Applause] ground ball right side divers steps on the bag first out in the top of the eighth josh Low next to hit for the Rays and the first pitch misses for ball one 10 [Applause] just missed and a foul ball makes the count two and one fought off foul [Applause] swing and a miss stuck him out went back to the sinker and it was successful so the bullpen doing a nice job backing up the effort from their starter yeah we’ve seen some pretty excellent pitching out of this staff so far i mean they’ve come in ready to do their job and get outs they’ve been pretty tough to get to in this one here’s the center fielder Brandon Laauo one for three and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter and there’s a ball one-1 that one misses and that’s ball two just missed first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no panic at all by the hitter very patient showing good discipline now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count the 3-1 swinging a foul out of play two down nobody on and we’re in the top of the eighth keeps the advant going with a foul ball out to short sneaks through base head and that keeps the inning alive love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there good piece of hitting going the other way with that pitch to beat the shift you know not a lot of guys are willing to do that even with the shift on because they’re looking to pull the ball with authority but it’s a pretty easy hit if you want it cameron go ahead run on base camo will hit next in there and it’s 0 and one if you’re a base runner you got to stay dialed in here look for anything in the dirt try your best to get into scoring position [Applause] up the middle story sends it over to first that’s the third out one hit one left home half of inning number eight straight ahead and we still have no score back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth number 48 this southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters mason Montgomery digging in marcel for the Red Sox third base number 39 [Applause] first offering misses badly for ball one activity in the bullpen manuel Rodriguez the young right-hander up and throwing [Applause] a healthy cut tough pitch at 98 but a really good pass at the ball swing and a miss as he was late well you got to find a way to catch up to that pitch perhaps shorten the swing eliminate the stride that one came in hot but right down the middle cuts and misses it’s a strike out now batting Alex Cora turning to the bench for a new hitter Rob Reider and this is a big at bat in this ball game and the pitch a little bit low ball one [Applause] and that is out of play all tied up here in the bottom half of the eighth inning at 96 that pitch is in for a strike fouls that off to the left and will do it again [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out coming out of the bullpen and throwing BB’s oh there he gets the slider in on his hands and it just eats him off it was hard to get the bat around on a pitch like that in tight you just feel like you’re crowded on the inside part of the plate can’t get any extension that’s one he definitely should have laid off of now a move being made for a pinch hitter Conor Wong big spot for him here and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike in for a strike good slider well he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there couldn’t pull the trigger and swing and this one’s blasted it’s got a chance to the warning track makes the catch it’s the ninth and we are tied now pitching back and on the mound the closer Chapman well good luck against this guy he’s been extremely tough to hit this year his numbers are excellent so coming into the game now on defense Romy Gonzalez he’s in a short stop number 23 and here’s the first baseman Jonathan Aranda 0 for three fly out of ground out and a strike out aranda inside ball one one ball no strikes and he takes a strike looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located very top of the strike zone middle [Applause] away fights it off he’ll see another and a one two again and that’s outside that one misses and the count’s full jake Mangum in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here three and two now stays alive swings and misses struck him out wow just great bite to that slider broke hard out of the zone and he just couldn’t hold up the swing you know as a hitter that pitch is really hard to take and there’s just not much you can do with it you know that but you don’t want to get rung up by the umpire now it’s the switch hitting outfielder Jake [Applause] Mangum swing and a foul back and that’s out of play [Applause] next offering way upstairs Boston’s bullpen with some activity garrick Crochet a lefty looks to be getting himself ready [Applause] check swing and he went and it’s one and two really going after him here all fast balls to get ahead in the count [Applause] that’s down and in that one way outside and the count’s full still just the second batter of the inning and on the mound he’s already thrown 13 pitches they got him working hard out there [Applause] bases empty one away here in the top of the ninth outside corner got him looking he can’t believe it now batting third base jose Cavayo now at the plate 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out that misses the zone and that’s ball one 10 and a foul ball pretty good pitch to take a pass at and a one count just not able to square it up is a 1-1 that one fouled off [Applause] [Applause] gets a piece and stays alive just off the outside edge that was absolute gas triple digits on the gun it’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by set down on strikes and he strikes out the side in the ninth impeccable command in that one three batters three strikeouts that’s electric stuff out there on the mound back here at Fenway bottom nine Joe stepping in for Boston son Raphael for the Red Sox center fielder Sidan Raphael that one to triple digits action in the pen down there manuel Rodriguez the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening the one liner snagged at first that swing right there tells me he’s seen the ball pretty well i know it didn’t produce a hit but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate now here’s the Red Sox leadoff hitter Jiren Durant outside low and it’s one and0 one ball no strike inside just missed boo he never moved cuz he never had time to but that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away that one misses and it’s three and over well played umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit and a strike right through there that one in triple digits fouled off he was late [Applause] one down base is empty ball four he walked in and that keeps things going oh that’s a really dangerous base runner to put on first especially in a tie game now there might be some consequences coming from that mistake desell with pretty good speed over there at first base is I think the pitcher’s got to slow everything down hold the ball a little bit step off just try to break the rhythm and timing of a potential base stealer little bit low to lay off that pitch down [Applause] for a strike that pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter of the track and it finds its way through for a hit ball back in a hurry and a winning run now at second with only one away just a clutch at bat right there big time swing when this team really needed it i know that was a ground ball but it was absolutely hammered through the infield that’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder you know they used to say charge it crazy now a huge bat in this game coming up next to hit Willard Abrau slice the other way and foul [Applause] the golf moved to second durant dives back in safely yeah bro if you’re that base runner second base you want to be quiet out there not bouncing around not distracting your teammate the hitter make sure that he can clearly focus on that pitcher and that release point in there at the knees and it’s nothing and two that front door slider such a devastating pitch you don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball so you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there it’s out of the swing plane and that one is inside spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another and a swing and a miss that K is his third of the game well that’s the money maker right there two strikes slider down and away from the same side thrower as the hitter i mean that’s just tough you’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off and the Rays manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move number 48 will depart and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base back with a new pitcher after this now pitching for here’s a new pitcher from the pen Manuel Rodriguez and we all know about his slider it’s just filthy man and one of the better ones in the game I’d say spin rates very high and it just breaks a ton and now it’s the catcher for the Red Sox Carlos Narvz 0 for three with two ground outs and a strike out that’s down and in a slider missed one ball no strike winning run stands at [Applause] second that one to first dives and he can’t hang on now he gets it to the pitcher covering the bag and they do get the third out of the inning now pitching for the red now we’re in extras and there’s a new arm on the mound garrick Crochet is having an excellent season so far erra is under two lot of flexibility coming out of the bullpen runner in scoring position no outs and here is Matt Thice [Applause] right side Wong and they get the lead off man in the 10th not a bad outcome in that spot the runner moves up to third and now they have a chance to drive in the go ahead run it’s not a hit but at the end of the day it’s a good at bat especially when you’re playing extra innings so the go-ahehead run in scoring position curtis me the next to hit first pitch doesn’t find the zone definitely a strikeout situation right here lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play [Applause] pitch out but no action meanwhile activity in the bullpen justin Wilson the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose with the go ahead run at third here in the top half of the [Applause] 10 next offering upstairs and you got to wonder with first base open one out is he going to get a pitch to hit taylor Walls in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here that’s in for a strike on the outside corner they’re now three and [Applause] one this one in the air right [Applause] field drops into the glove runner tags from third the tag hits him and it’s a double play to end the inning trying to take the lead in the late going can’t blame him but the defense was having none of that close play at the dish the tag applied just in time and we’ll push on with a tie ball game and we’re back on to the bottom of the 10th now it’s going to be Abraham to Abraham Toro [Applause] there’s a strike well a good slider from an opposite handed pitcher has to stay in that tunnel just a little bit longer otherwise recognition can cause you to barrel it up and right there the hitter clearly couldn’t do anything with it [Applause] well if he’s going to do something special right here it’s going to have to happen with two strikes up the middle walls throws to first and here in the 10th the leadoff man is out now batting number 39 and next for the Red Sox Marcelo Meyer oh how he’d love to walk it off right here bounding ball here rolls foul one away the winning run at second ripped on a line to center makes the grab and there’s two out and stepping in from Boston Romy Gonzalez came into the game on defense so his first trip to the plate here [Applause] close one doesn’t get the call one and0 it’s getting squeezed a little bit here late and that’s in for a strike and now it’s even one and one [Applause] this one chopped on the ground but foul the winning run on second base the shorts stop takes a [Applause] ball tapped softly on the ground walls and we’re headed to the 11th so it’s no runs on no hits no errors and a runner left we push on to the 11th no score back here in Boston 11th inning set to get underway and now the short stop taylor Wall stop look for him to hit behind the runner perhaps shoot it to the right side crochet back to work out to short gonzalez throw off line he’s safe and a nice job there to keep it from getting away that’s a play you expect your shorts stop to make pretty much every time pretty routine hard to tell if he didn’t get a great grip on it or the mechanics on him just broke down but that gives this offense an extra out to work with first and second no outs josh Low getting ready to hit 0 for three in this one just missed 10 so two balls and no strikes two balls no strikes with the go-ahead run standing at second here in extra innings [Applause] swing and a miss two and two now this guy’s got such a good sinker as a hitter you’ve got to look up in the zone if you look down you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt and a swing and it is and that is a big first out cameron Meisner next to hit for the Rays getting his first plate appearance here in extra innings he entered the game as a pinch runner that one outside and that is B one out the go-ahead run is at second [Applause] big swing and a miss see if you can go upstairs a little bit make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two don’t miss in the zone because that’s where you get hurt strike it out and to swing it is two away nice work there to get the strike out and that’s a big second out i’ll tell you this whole crowd will be fired up they can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position this is a big moment in this game stepping in Junior Camroero outfield deep here trying to prevent anything over their heads [Applause] check swing appeal to first and yes he did he went around [Applause] inside just missed good fast ball there i think it was a purpose pitch you just want to make that hitter’s feet uncomfortable and that location will definitely do it basketball for a strike man I’m pretty impressed out there on the mound right now i mean these are tough spots where pitchers really got to bear out those last two pitches were well executed [Applause] swing and a miss adam out front for the strike out he’s in a tough spot had to make a great pitch did it got the strike out gets out of the jam clearly he’s happy with those results back here at Fenway all set for the bottom of the 11th here’s the second baseman Connor Wong and that one fouled off and that one fouled off he’s falling behind in a huge spot boo got to do what it takes to come through maybe choke up on the bat a little bit spread out those feet whatever it takes swing and a miss that’s a strike out slider got him for strike three now that is Son Raphael up next for the Red Sox well first base open really no reason to pitch to this hitter right here put him on have the force at second first perhaps getting inning ending double play he can live up in the zone all game if hitters will chase it that’s just too much velocity hitters got to look down in the zone slow roller up the middle knee tosses to first quick recovery from the misplay pays off for the out well there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there nice job of the pitcher to bear down make the pitch get the ground ball excellent piece of work jiren Durant steps to the dish in a big spot [Applause] and that one is downstairs ball one [Applause] right through there for a strike [Applause] swing a miss at a slider well he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs you’ve got to expand the zone he’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it and it’s a one two three inning back now at Venway onto the 12th leading off Jonathan Aranda [Applause] the pitch and fouled off [Applause] man at second yeah that’s fouled off got him down on strikes and there’s one away here in the 12th gets talked about a lot but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate having a good grip on the baseball those high fast balls they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate so very difficult to get the barrel on it mangum up to bat next lays off for a ball one out the go-ahead run is at second here deep into extra [Applause] innings swings and hits one in the air out towards right field he’s got it and there’s two away now daddy third baseman Jose [Applause] so the go-ahehead run in scoring position now the third baseman Jose Caviierro right through there for a strike goodness i think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat you don’t get many like that in that location i don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mount swings and misses oh and two he’s had a tough day at the plate three strikeouts already it’s hard not to think negative but you got to find a way to somehow center up the baseball and put it in play line drive one third out now pitching for pitching change here Garrick Clevenger and if you dig into his walk rate his numbers are really impressive he’s really filled up the strike zone this season so these batters better be ready to swing the bats here’s Raphael Des and there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd right i mean yeah I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure [Applause] pitch misses there ball one one ball no strike [Applause] well I think that pitch surprised all of us right down the middle doesn’t get a swing not very often you see a hitter lay off a cookie like that hit on the ground to short walls and Devers is set down will your Abrau will hit next listen there’s absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right here you nibble you see if he’ll expand his zone but don’t give him anything to hit if you walk them not a big deal you have a double play opportunity set up and he takes it himself for the out now batting the catcher Carlos Narvz and now it’s going to be Carlos Narvz 0 for four with three ground outs and a strikeout [Applause] center field meisner should have this one makes the grab and that is the inning now pitching now we’re in extras and there’s a new arm on the mound justin Wilson he’s throwing the ball very well overall this season he’s been really tough to get to you see that erra and that’s where you love to be and now the catcher comes up to him matt th one for four with a double that’s in for a strike nasty pitch that one hooked foul that’s a strike in woody Keller says he won a round so up next Curtis Me second base Curtis Me at 96 that pitch is in for a strike the Red Sox with some bullpen action greg Weisser the right-handed sinker baller he looks to be readying himself [Applause] fast ball almost got him there one-1 lifted in the air right center field raphael sizes this one up makes the grab and there’s two ball up next for Tampa Bay shortstop Taylor Walls at the plate taylor Walls well both sides equally as strong so not a good time to try to turn him around with a belief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate [Applause] right through there for a strike 01 two down go ahead run in scoring position breaks his bat and pops it up puts the tag on him and that’s the [Applause] inning we’re in extras here and now the DH Abraham Toro line drive base hit throw comes in and the winning run stops 90 ft from home nobody out so they hold the runner at third wanting to play it safe but that comes back to bite him boy it’s hard to say that runner on second to start extras is critical and you want to make sure you don’t waste it they don’t score the same there’ll be some second guessing for sure here’s the third base Marcelo Meyer first pitch misses [Applause] lefty out of the stretch runners at first and third swings through that one out in front that time [Applause] late swing foul to the left nobody out the winning run 90 ft [Applause] away base hit center field acrosses the winning run and the Red Sox break through to win it in 13 so exciting to see a team walk it off not so much fun if you’re on the other side but what a great way to win this team is celebrating and this win is welld deserved [Applause] the final one to nothing a oneun extra inning win for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show thanks for stopping by i’m John Shami talk to you soon what the heat what the
