The Seattle Seahawks begin their mandatory minicamp today, what could we learn from it?

the Seattle Seahawks kick off their mandatory mini camp session today what’s going on everybody good morning happy Tuesday hope you guys are doing well and today is going to be hopefully at least an intriguing day hopefully today gives us some stuff to talk about because today is the first day of the Seattle Seahawk mandatory mini camp so there’s not a lot of drama going into this mandatory mini camp because it looks like everybody’s going to be there there’s not going to be any absences maybe there will be one or two excused absences where a player just says “Hey I I can’t be there i got to do this or I got to do that and the team decides they’re okay with it like hypothetically if a player like a Jonathan Henkins wanted to call out I don’t think the team would mind that much as long as he has a good reason but there’s no drama in terms of like an unexcused absence like “Oh we got we got Aaron Rodgers and he’s not going to show up because he wants to go to his uh you know retreat his retreat in the middle of the desert uh there’s not going to be any kind of uh Jaylen Ramsay situation where Ramsay’s not going to be at his mandatory mini camp in Miami because he anticipates he’s going to get traded any time now so we don’t really have to think about any of that it looks like everybody’s going to be there the things that we are watching for will be first of all who participates in terms of actually being able to do stuff on the field uh obviously we do have some injuries like pretty much every other team out there going to be interesting to see who actually gets out there for us what is Ken Walker going to do what is Ernest Jones going to look like couple other players as well working their way back from various injuries like Nosu could be interesting and then after that we just basically have to wait and see who stands out in a positive way maybe some guys will stand out in a more negative way and how are we going to feel coming out of this so of course I’ll be talking about anything that we hear about from this mini camp it starts today by the time this video is uploaded it’s probably technically already gotten underway over at the V-Mac and the entire mini camp is open to the media I believe so there should be no shortage of information so it should be a fun couple of days although I will say emphasis on a couple of days because per Corbin Smith and a couple other people uh Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be our only days the third practice which would normally take place on Thursday has been cancelled as of yesterday afternoon so this is obviously coming on the tales or coming on the um after the news that they would be cancelling a whole week of OTAAS so now after cutting down on the OTAA sessions by 33% they’re cutting down on the mini camp by 33% and I see some people expressing some concern about that i see some people not so happy about that i I will say that we are implementing a new offense this year we have a new quarterback we have mostly new receivers we have 11 rookies i do wonder if at a certain point you push it too far we know that there’s already a limit on practices and training camp sessions in the CBA anyway right this isn’t the old days where you would have two a days now you get what four sessions a week during the off season and then you get the three practices during the season and it does cut down on your ability to implement new stuff i I I I’m not saying that those those people who are maybe a little bit anxious about all these canceled practices are completely off base i don’t think one practice session is necessarily going to make a difference maybe four the does though right because now you have three OTAAS and then you have the one mandatory mini camp day again what I would say is that this is a relatively common practice and it’s a way coaches can reward players for looking good and performing well and it’s also a way of acknowledging the fact that they feel like they’re on track and I don’t think Carol shied away from doing stuff like this i don’t remember as well because um you know with each year that’s gone by especially recently I’ve been looking at stuff like this more and more but I’m sure that he did i I I assume that someone like a Pete Carol would be doing that kind of stuff constantly so I I’m not too worried about it if we get to the season and then things don’t look right maybe this is something we look back on but remember this is not the end of the line here we’ve got training camp in late July and then you have all the stuff happening during the preeason and leading into the regular season so it’s not like there’s nothing left this off season so yeah just two B mandatory mini camp sessions which as somebody who talks about the team here on YouTube it’s a little bit disappointing just because there’s going to be one day uh less of content to get into but hey if the team needs to be rewarded then the team needs to be rewarded and I don’t think McDonald is doing this stuff just because he feels like it i assume he’s doing it because he thinks the team is doing stuff that is reflective of earning this right so later today or tomorrow it depends it depends on how long it takes for us to hear stuff i’ll make a video probably tomorrow morning but maybe I’ll do it later today we’ll see depends on how late it is and um we’ll we’ll just uh talk about whatever it is that we hear about from this mini camp session and then tomorrow same thing we have another mini camp session so there will be a video later Wednesday or Thursday morning to talk about whatever gets passed along and then that’ll be that and that is it until late July I believe i don’t think there’s going to be any other VMAC work there’s not going to be more practice or camp it’s just going to be we’re waiting for training camp which I can’t remember the exact day but it is late July to my knowledge so that’s a that’s an extended period of time off that is an extended session of the players just getting to go home and chill out so with two days that that may not sound like a lot and in fairness they probably learned more from the six OTAAS they did than they will from this two-day mini camp but this is kind of the last chance to really evaluate where you sit as a team this is your last chance to evaluate your roster and I I think maybe the most interesting thing for this team is to judge what they have against what they could have because I’ve already made a couple of videos talking about some of the available players the cornerbacks the nose tackles and there are other positions you could consider playing add-on at um couple of things happened over the last day or so we had two veteran defensive players released by their teams these are two players that have a very positive reputation in the league these are two players that are known for being good important valuable parts of good defenses the first was of course Jier Alexander getting released by the Packers this was uh like I said yesterday and then you also had Germaine Pratt getting released by the Bengals so we’re post June 1st now so these releases are less damaging to their teams in terms of salary cap and also the um compensatory pick u calculations so you’re going to see maybe one or two other players like this get released around the league but these two I mean I don’t know if the Seahawks are thinking about this but the next two days could be instrumental in them figuring out if they want to get involved in signing one of these two players so that’ll be worth watching like over the next couple days if they’re looking at Josh Joby and they don’t really like what they see that much because you’ve got right now Witherspoon you’ve got Woolen and then Em and Warry supposedly starting at Nickel so Josh Joby is kind of like your next man up if they don’t like what they see from Joby and they don’t see growth from Nehemiah Pritchette and Zia Alexander doesn’t look like he’s going to be ready for regular season action this year maybe Jier Alexander becomes a more appealing target remember like I said signing players now does not negatively affect your compensatory picks not that I think we’re going to be involved in comp pick stuff this year anyway but this is a situation worth monitoring if not Jair there are plenty of other free agent cornerbacks still out there and Germaine Pratt was a player that had a lot of tackles last year but generally speaking I don’t get the sense that he was good he was serviceable he was tolerable he was a workable player he was he he belongs in the NFL but this is a player that is probably kind of entering the next phase of his career where he’s just kind of a guy and I think our linebacker our starters is pretty well set in stone i think this team likes Tyrese Knight i think this team well of course we just gave Ernest Jones some money so I think we like him too but there’s not a lot to speak of in terms of depth behind those two guys so if Germaine Pratt is willing to be the first man off the bench and if the Seahawks are looking at this and going “We want something better than Drake Thomas maybe there’s something here.” It’s hard to know what Germaine Pratt’s going to be thinking right now because like like I said and like this tweet says from Pelisaro he was top 10 in tackles last year but I don’t think that makes him a good player i think he was mediocre last year as near as I can tell i don’t watch every Bengals game so is he willing to take a backup role is he willing to kind of just sit and play special teams and wait for his opportunity if it happens you know Ernest Jones not the sturdiest player in the universe with his knee so it it’s not like he would never get to play I don’t think but we’re we’re this this is kind of our opportunity to figure it out if we like what we see from Drake Thomas and Josh Ross maybe we say “Okay we don’t we don’t need to touch that.” But these are some players we might look at if we see some stuff we don’t like over the next couple of days all right that’s really about it i just wanted to go over what’s going to happen the next few days let me know what you guys think i’ll see you guys later go Hawks mini Camp underway i’ll be covering whatever is whatever there is to cover see you

We’ll get some information.

  1. When the NFL reduce practices do player performances suffer or do players continue to get faster stats get better and the game gets better

  2. Alexander isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. He’s going to want all pro money, but he hasn’t been healthy enough to earn it so, he will have to sit on the street until he realizes he’s gonna have to take a pay cut to play.
Unless someone spends all pro money on him now.
