Instant Analysis: Chris Kreider Traded To Anaheim Ducks w/ Steve Dangle
chris Krider is a duck The New York Rangers have finally traded Chris Krider to the Anaheim Ducks in a trade that feels like it took place over the course of three days There are two players involved two picks involved Let’s go through it To the Anaheim Ducks Chris Krider that’s very easy and we’ll talk about him because he’s a wellestablished NHL player The other Carrie Terren a 2023 second round pick of the Anaheim Ducks who was on the American World Junior team at this past World Juniors According to Elliot Freriedman there is no salary retention involved So the whole $6.5 million cap hit of Chris Krider going to Anaheim just like Jacob Trouba who is also a former Ranger The Rangers receive a third round pick in 2025 that originally belonged to the Leafs And the pick to Anaheim is their own 2025 fourthround pick that they originally gave to the Rangers for Jake Trouba I have complex feelings about this trade Chris Krider is 34 Chris Crryder has two full seasons left on a contract that will pay him $6.5 million per season Chris Crryder is coming off the worst season of his career Prior to the worst season of his career Chris Krider was a really really really good hockey player for the New York Rangers for a very long time Chris Krider played for Team USA at the Foration Faceoff in February of this current year Listen at the end of the day Chris Drury the GM of the New York Rangers his job is to make the New York Rangers better Getting out from under two full years no salary retention of this contract is crazy Getting paid to do it by the Ducks is even crazier The Rangers and Ducks exchange picks The Ducks gave up the better pick They also gave up a second rounder that they drafted in 2023 They paid for two seasons of Chris Krider with no retention Anyway you slice it that’s kind of surprising and a good move by Chris Drury in my opinion Also however uh I don’t think good hockey players forget how to play hockey and I don’t think Chris Krider forgot how to play hockey this past season Two seasons ago or last season however you want to look at it Chris Krider had a healthy full 82game season where he put up 36 assists which was a careerhigh I’m focusing on the assists for a reason This past season he played a not very healthy 68game season where he put up a career low eight assists Eight He still had 22 goals which is pretty good Is it worth 6.5 million no But that’s good That’s a serviceable player The season he was coming off of is immaculate Listen maybe he never hits 52 goals again Okay here’s what he’s coming off of in an 82 game season 39 goals 36 assists and the second highest point total of his career 75 The Rangers made it to the Eastern Conference final And during that 16game run Crider put up eight goals and four assists for 12 points The year prior in seven playoff games he put up nine points The year before that in 20 games he put up 10 goals and 16 points Before this past season where he scored 22 goals Krider scored 39 36 52 and then goes down to 20 in a 50game season Listen players age Time catches up with everybody Maybe that’s what’s happening here and we literally never see a better season than what we’ve seen out of Chris Crider Maybe for the rest of his career he tops out at 20 goals and 30 points in which case 6.5 million sucks But the Ducks are taking the optimistic approach and saying you know what he’ll bounce back Even if he doesn’t bounce back to what he was can you get him to 25 goals that’s only three more That seems reasonable Could you flirt with 30 could you maybe get a second date with 30 can you get him more than eight assists probably by accident Yeah the previous season he had more than quadruple that And that’s what the Ducks are banking on The Ducks are dying for relevance They have some good young players They have some really good goalies They’ve been trying to do some obvious things over the past few years They gave Frank Vrono a salary deferred contract There is no reason to give Frank Vrono a salary deferred contract if you’re the Anaheim Ducks What do you have cap trouble what are you doing no they’re trying to signal to the rest of the league hey look we we’ll spend money They got Radco Gudis on that expensive contract and then they made him captain Alex Gorn same deal They went out and they traded for Jacob Trouba from the New York Rangers Another guy who had a no move clause and said “I don’t want to go to Anaheim.” And the Rangers said “Okay well you’re going.” And he said “No.” And they go “You are?” And he said “No.” And they said “We’ll wave you.” And he said “Okay fine.” And just like Barklay Godro who went to another California team the Rangers keep doing this The Ducks goals are clear for next season They want to contend for a playoff spot They had a greatly improved season this past year but they’re still a ways away You can do a lot with a great goalie or maybe even two Just ask the New York Rangers Some teams around the NHL are trying to change their DNA The Anaheim Ducks are trying to establish theirs The other thing I got to say here I hate what the Rangers are are doing because it’s objectively good for the organization in a vacuum short term Completely screwing Barlay Goodro and waving him and sending him to the San Jose Sharks I mean okay you free up the cap space but brutal way to conduct business And then Jake Trouba hey you’re you’re gonna get traded And he goes no I’m not And then they go “Okay well you’re screwed and we’re just gonna wave you.” And he goes “All right fine.” And he accepts a trade to Anaheim And then they do the exact same thing to Chris Krider who had Anaheim on his no trade list There is a reason that the Hockey Hall of Fame is not called the Hockey Hall of Very nice guys This is a ruthless business decision Speaking of ruthless Greg Washinsky tweets “While I’ve downplayed NHL offer sheet hysteria in the past I think the flexibility to potentially sign an RFA is part of the Rangers thinking on the Krider trade.” Oh now we’re just cooking with gas Hell yeah I think more than most teams around the league we’re all looking at the Rangers and wondering what the heck they’re doing They even have some key restricted or unrestricted free agents Keandre Miller being a chief among them Are they going to get traded are they going to get offer seated are they going to I I assume that they end up in California if they do get traded That’s what Chris Jury does That is a team that had a few pretty decent cracks at the cup faltered at the beginning of the season and they decided we got to change it up And change it up They aggressively are Now there’s the player that the Rangers got the prospect that the Rangers got from the Ducks in Carrie Terrence Interesting prospect because if you look at his hockey DB he’s actually got an interesting Chris Krider-l like statline The season he was drafted in 2223 with the Eerie Otter of the Ontario Hockey League He had more goals than assists The next season more goals than assists This past season more goals than assists The main problem is he hasn’t quite gotten back to his rate from the season that he was drafted In 2223 he had just 17 assists but 30 goals for 47 points in 67 games He’s also from New York um from a part of New York that I think if I tried to pronounce it I know I’m just going to get ridiculed in the comments by all the Rangers fans watching this So I’m not I’m not even going to give you the satisfaction A I’m going to try Aquacas A Aquaassny Aquaassne Manhattan Anyway he had 30 goals 17 assists 47 points The next season 29 goals in fewer games 23 assists 52 points Okay that is an improvement this past season in just 45 games 20 goals 19 assists 39 points Yes it’s in fewer games His goal rate actually just goes back to his his draft year actually a hair below It’s 29 point something He hasn’t taken unbelievable statistical strides put it that way Still a very solid major junior player but for a guy who just turned 20 you hope for more At this past Winter’s World Junior Hockey Championship he played seven games and had two goals He’s from New York State That’s fun Former second round pick That’s fun Might work out might not When you trade a draft pick it’s like trading magic beans because you have no idea what the draft pick is going to turn into It gets a little bit more complicated when you actually draft a player and now there’s a name attached to it But even after you draft them it can still take a few years to figure out whether or not a prospect is going to make it And I kind of feel like Carrie Terrence right now is still a little bit magic beans In a few years who knows those beans might be magic They also might just be beans What do you think Carrie Terrence eventually turns into let me know in the comment box down below And let me know what you thought about this trade What do you think about the way the Rangers treat their players like guys who are wellestablished We’re not just talking about some guy from Big Head Hockey Since 21-22 Chris Krider has more goals than Jake Gensel Sydney Crosby Adrien Kempe Mark Shifley Sebastian Ao Brady Kachchuck One injury riddled season and now he’s useless I kind of agree with that sentiment man Even in an injury busted no good not fun season Chris Krider still scored over 20 goals And this from Rangers Videos all-time leader in playoff goals Chris Crider original six franchise all-time leader in playoff goals third in regular season goals top 10 in several other categories and above all Ranger in every sense of the word Thank you Criedes And the way his Rangers tenure ended is he was forced One last thing CJ show CJ show CJ show The Chris Johnston show Man there is so much garbage Cj show it's boring. It missed a really good clown to entertain. Should had big mouth dumbass to make it watchable. And better camera quality.
Players are going to on ask for no waive clauses going forward.
As a lifelong Ranger fan, I hate that they traded Kreider. I didn't like the way Goodrow was traded either, Trouba, mew, not so much, he was trying to play hardball and hot the short stick. That being said, it does set a dangerous precedent.
Buuuut I do understand why they are doing it, in most instances.
Keeping a guy around because of sentimental reasons when he doesn't play according to his value, that ain't good business.
All in all, a good trade for the Rangers but I will deeply miss Kreids.
Listen bud the hockey guy beat you to it by about three hours saying everything you did so a day late and a dollar short bye-bye
Rangers don’t have their first next year if offer sheets are on their mind
This dude shits on the Ducks regularly. Definetly east coast guy who doesn't stay up late enough to watch west coast games. If u watched last 3rd season of Ducks season u'd have seen all the young talent taking big steps forward and it became obvious lost puppy coach Cronin needed to be fired along w his whole staff and this team could finally fly again. Stanley cup this season, naw. Playoffs and dangerous team to play most nights this season, yep!
IMO it's a solid deal for ANA. The team needs vets to play with all the young guys.
I'd expect Keider to play middle 6 at 5/5 & PP1 (30G/20A) under Quenneville's system… and it's on 2yrs @ 5M in real money
Cool! This doesn't move the needle for either team. Whoop-dee.
Eventually someone will be a goose right?
Chris Krieder, Carey Price killer. Hope he rots in Anaheim….
I almost thought you understood hockey or actually knew the history of all players mentioned.
All goaltenders in the Pacific need to watch out now. Nobody in the league is better at "accidentally" skating full speed into goaltenders than Kreider.
No ones going to want to go to the rangers if drurys gonna keep threatening everyone to accept trades
As a Rangers fan, I'm sad to see that things ended up this way with Kreider. Probably the right trade for the team, but Kreider is a Rangers legend and would have loved to see him retire a Ranger. He had a bad year last year but so did the entire team and it required Drury to make a whole bunch of trades. Hope Kreider bounces back well with the Ducks! I'll be rooting for him
Given where Kreider ranks all-time in Rangers stats, if I’m Pat Verbeek, I make this trade on any day of the week that ends in “y.” Hey, thanks, Drury!
A rare W for Chris Drury
I think Sully is going to turn Terrance into a top 6 this year
If this happened 8 years ago with the Ducks current line up and Coach Q at the helm, the Ducks would have a about two cups by now
Akwesasne is on the border to ontario – pronounced Aqua – sah- sneh – a local 🙂
Ducks finishing ahead of the Leafs next season
Ducks fan here and I'm CONFUSED. Yes the ducks biggest need is goal scoring, but this dosent fit imo.
Ducks top nine going into next season
Vatrano-Strome-Terry
Gauthier-Carlson-Killorn
Zegras-McTavish(assuming he resigns)-?
The only opening is a RW, and they already have Killorn playing his off side.
Also after next season this is the list of RFA the ducks will have
Leo Carlson
Trevor Zegras
Cutter Gauthier
Olen Zellweger
Jackson Lacombe
And Pavel Mintyukov
You gotta resign all those guys and you are bringing in another aging winger for 6.5 mill?
Kreider's cap hit is 6.5M for the next two season, his Salary for the next two seasons is 5M this year and 4M with a 1M signing bonus the final year.
EDMONTON VS. FLORIDA NEXT YEAR FINALS!
This is actually pretty good for the Ducks. The Casey kid has the potential of being as good as Kreider (when he's playing bad) lol the upside of Kreider can be much higher
Not very exciting except rangers shedding 6.5 mil
Kreider would have been a great Tavares replacement.
Take good care of him Anaheim!
The Kreider contract isn’t that bad ?
They’re going for marner
Are the Montreal Canadiens the opposite of the New York Rangers in terms of how they treat players?
The Ducks could sign McDavid and this guy would be like "Mmm, well Anaheim overpaid and so much for McDavids career"
Kreider still has ALOT of good hockey left in him. Sad to see Kreider go. Good lucks with the Ducks Kreider! Thanks for everything!
I’m a Ranger fan and I’m sad over this. Mika was the guy who needed to go for the better of the team.

I feel like Rangers got away with murder here personally. They have a chance to get some young talent and develop them now through free agency if they want to or add an immediate contributor who can be there in the future.
Kreider was the definition of “all quit in NY” the last two years besides his playoff hat trick. And yea he scored some goals two years ago and all but he still would take way too many games off because he just didn’t feel like playing. And that’s why he lost a lot of rangers fans respect and why he needed to be moved even if he has a 40g 60p season this year, which I’m sure he will.
The Rangers will never win as long as the think they can start new every year…Management of this team continues to suck..
For both teams was a good trade. Ducks still not done with the moves yet. The owner made it clear that they will be spending big this off season.
FYI It is pronounced Carey Terr”AN”ce. And I think this good for the Ducks. They get him for almost nothing. Only makes him better. Terrance probably won’t make the Ducks with their prospects
I have the perfect plan for next season. If anyone is interested I'll tell you
This makes me sad.
It’s bitter sweet for us rangers guys
I hate this trade and Chris Drury's face
Rangers had to free up the cash or risk letting Cuyle get poached on an offer sheet. There was for sure way more good times than bad with CK20, but less we forget the reason he's no longer a Ranger. He's a quitter! Would rather cry out loud and sulk for players on other teams than show up and do his job night in and night out. Hopefully his Swedish man friend is next.
Wanted him in Toronto on LW
Krieder still scored 20 goals 6.5 million isn't that much considering the cap is going up and how much space the Ducks have. They had to bring in Salary to hit the floor. So let's stop pretending like it's some horrendous contract. So to give up a 2nd and 3rd isnt an extreme overpay for 20+ goal scorer and the assists will come with his teammates playing better
As a Rangers fan, I'm gonna miss Kreider and I think he still has plenty more in the tank. I think this move was done not just for cap, but I think they try to move Mika next, and without his best friend, he may be more open to waiving his NMC. Also, Drury never makes big trades in the same conference, every big move he's done is a Western Conference team.
The worst apart of this trade is Habs fans can only boo Krieder once per year. How is he’s supposed to remember his crime now!!!!!
