HUGE AARON EKBLAD NEWS: SIGNING W/ DETROIT RED WINGS, TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS, EDMONTON OILERS?
[Music] oh boy baby we are here and we are talking about some more Florida Panthers guys because of course we have to be diving into the 2025 Stanley Cup finals the names that make the finals run and some of the guys who we will see enter the free agency pool if you had seen the video that we had uploaded about an hour ago you would have seen that Sam Bennett doesn’t really look like he is going to be one of those names he may be signing a 60 plus million dollar extension with Florida who really knows but in today’s video we are diving into yet another one of these cats on the Panthers that is potentially going to leave and we are diving into some of the new teams that have been linked to him you already know from the title and from the thumbnail but we are talking about some Canadian franchises we are talking about the Detroit Red Wings and we are talking about Aaron Ecklad now the interesting thing about Ekblad is that we already did make one video talking about Eblad and Detroit because it was discussed as a potential option for Stevie Y a few days ago i forgot who it was that actually mentioned Eblad in the context of talking about the Red Wings but it was brought up as a thing that the Wings shouldn’t go out there and explore and we already made that video commentary combining it with some Frank Saravelli trade talk so that is available for your viewing pleasure if you wanted to see that but again that was from about a week ago week ago 6 days ago to be exact and now on June 13th 2025 we are diving into everything one more time we’ve got two updates from David Pñota from This Morning that I wanted to dive into on this show here he said on NHL Network earlier this morning that Aaron Eblad is likely heading to free agency the Florida Panthers want him at less than his current $7.5 million AAV range something in the $6 million range and you know you talk about state tax you talk about the Florida Panthers being able to grab guys on for cheap maybe not that cheap we had already spoken about Sam Bennett 8 by8 seems to be what he is going to get with the cats but realistically I mean there have been people speculating that if Sam Bennett became a free agent he could get like 10 he would get maybe like 70 million bucks and he would be setting himself up for life in a much bigger way if he were to get that free agent deal with some other random team on the market but nah Florida no state tax higher take-home pay 8 by8 that seems to be the territory in which Bennett’s contract discussions will go down but Aaron Eblad seems like they want to take a big big discount out of his contract in order to keep him and you have a very understandable conclusion if Aaron Ecklad himself doesn’t want to do that he’s like “Hey I don’t want to take a pay cut are you kidding me?” Like he’s already in Florida he’s already making the amount of money he’s making they want him to make less he has all the right in the world to say no especially if he were to go to another team and get much much more than $6 million a season this is where David Pñota and EJ Heratic on NHL Network say after Edmonton Toronto and Detroit are teams that will look at signing Aaron Ecklad if he hits free agency they say here that these three teams are among the group of teams that will be looking at Aaron Ecklad but of course just the mere possibility of these teams being brought up in the Eblad conversation gives us the opportunity to dive into it and talk about it starting out with the Toronto Maple Leafs because I think this is the more obvious choice out of all these teams being mentioned here because it’s like hey of course Arin Blood is linked to Toronto he was a first overall OHL exceptional status guy he was a first overall NHL draft pick he was from Ontario he played his junior hockey and Barry is a good old Ontario kid and I don’t think anybody is going to disagree with that i mean yeah you got to remember Aaron Heckblood was exceptional status albeit it was you know 14 years ago still he eventually became a first overall pick and he was super poised and super good and there was a time in Aaron Ecklad’s career where he was a legitimate number one defenseman producing a hell of a lot of points before getting slowed down by injuries heck even this season he has been fine production-wise it’s just when you think about players that are at the top of their teams you don’t necessarily think of Aaron Neckblood anymore because there are other names who are flashier they score even more points and they have a much more higher command of the ice the Quinn Hughes the Mars the Fox the Heiskinins the Dalines etc ecklad is absolutely not that he was never going to be that that’s not the kind of game that he plays but if you want somebody who can be a reliable 23 24 minute a night defenseman and a guy whom you could play upwards of 30 minutes if the game goes to overtime Aaron Eckblad’s your guy he’s mean he’s big he’s tough he’s a wall everything that you wanted out of a guy like Sheay Weber and Ben Sherro you can get out of Aaron Ecklad and because of his links to the Ontario area of course it’s like yeah he’d be targeted by the Maple Leafs like they always need right-handed defenseman on that team would they be willing to overpay for Eblad maybe if Mitch Marner leaves and they have a whole bunch of cap space freed up there’s an opportunity to grab a really great right-handed defenseman there the Edmonton Oilers you can say are in a similar boat although I do kind of wonder if there is really that opportunity for Eblad to switch ship and head over to the Oilers after being a part of this finalist Panthers squad two years in a row against Edmonton would he straight up up and away join the opposition is he going to pull off a Marian Hosa he’s going to head over onto Edmonton and then lose in the Stanley Cup final as a member of the Oilers in 2026 who knows yeah it doesn’t really work aaron Ecklbot already won a Stanley Cup with Florida so the Marian Hosa comparison isn’t really all too present but the Oilers they’ve been getting some really strong defending out of all their guys and even with a player like Troy Stetcher being on the back burner being a very second or third tier option for that team yesterday they’re still getting some good solid defensive production out of their players and Aaron Ecklad would only solidify what it is that they have in Edmonton meanwhile for the Detroit Red Wings having Ecklad and Cider as a one-two on the right side would be menacing and it would totally stabilize the rest of that Red Wings right side edson Johansson Cider Eblad i like the sound of that a lot you don’t need to rely on Justin Hall anymore you don’t need to rely on Jeff Petri anymore sure there are other names that you want to see rotating around you would like to have Eric Gustoson as a power play option you would like to have Axel Santine Pelica as a full-time Redwing not guaranteed but you would like to have it aaron Ecklad though would be a very solid veteran presence although the commentary that we did have a week ago said that Aaron Blood may not actually be the right name for Detroit because of the age and because of the contract that was an idea that was brought up i forgot who it was that mentioned it but we did talk about it in the video that’s why we had Eblad all over the social media stuff about it but we did talk about whether or not Eblad was another one of these bargain bin type scenario guys not necessarily like oh yeah bargain bin because he’s cheap bargain bin because he’s on the second half of his career and he could be getting signed in Detroit for the remaining years of his career in the same way that an Andrew Cop or a JT Comper were given medium-term deals that will take them into their early 30s is Aaron Ecklad an appropriate name to give that sort of a contract to if he wants let’s say seven years and he wants $7 million a season is it an appropriate move for Stevie White to give a guy like this $49 million over the next seven years right now Aaron Ecklad is what is he 28 29 years old you will sign him for a long time when you give him a seven-year deal so if you’re the Detroit Red Wings you do have to start taking a little bit of a precaution as to whether or not this is going to be beneficial for your team long term i do think that Cider of course he is the number one eblad being a number two does sound intriguing but the question is is it appropriate for what this team is trying to have in store let me know your thoughts in the comments section below i hope you enjoyed this roll and bye [Music] [Music]

If Elblad wanted 7 mill he would stay in Florida. He’s getting 8 mill on the open market.
Yeah no state tax in Florida…but property taxes, homeowners insurance, and car insurance are really way through the roof almost leveling things out. I live in Texas as those three things are absolute killers though everything is much higher in Florida.
he aint going to detroit, no one wants to play on an yzerman team lol
