with you well something we’ll have to keep an eye on in this one the weather pretty dry right now but there is rain expected around the stadium later in the game and that could cause some sort of a delay and when you’re aware of that Boog you know you got to come out and try to score early put some runs up get a lead because you just never know if you’re going to be able to continue that game or what that delay is going to do to your starting pitcher perhaps so you know always want to play with an urgency but even more so on a day like this when you’ve got forecast for rain later it’s the Athletics going up against the Kansas City Royals first pitch coming your way next just about set to go now getting the nod in this one noah Cameron and Singi we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots i’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure he’s more calm and settles in he’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the dugout in there at the knees battling here as he fouls it away swings and misses chase the basketball up the ladder for strike three oh that high forcing fast ball has become such a staple as a strikeout pitch over the years and what’s so tough as a hitter is that you see it extremely well the problem is the velocity at spin rate just happens to jump by you you expand your zone you don’t stay tall on the backside and you’re really not even able to make contact if you do many times it’s a popup brent Rooker the batter now as he swings and misses for strike one cameron 25 years old and he was drafted in the seventh round in 2021 line drive and it stays fair now he’ll turn for second and he’s in with a standup double nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly one out runner at second tyler Soderstrom now at the plate come on Noah fair ball and he boots it rooker around third he’ll score and he’ll reach second with one away mission accomplished there as he picks up the RBI to give him the lead that was a thing of beauty he may have been a little behind the pitch but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left man at second with one away next up for the A’s Nick Curts fast ball in for a strike 0 and one one out and a runner at second lifted in the air right center field no trouble here puts it away for the out two away now the third base and time now to check out the A’s lineup one guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Tyler Soderstrom and Boo he’s their team leader in home runs so you know the pitchers on that other side man they took a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting you know he’s got a lot of pop and it’s real pop it’s not fluky at all he can absolutely change the outlook of a game very quickly so watch out when he steps in maxy in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike finish him sodro on it second with two down in the air right field on the move and he makes the catch and that is that A’s get one on the RBI double it’s now one- nothing major League Baseball is on the show back here with my pal Singi and pitching in this one for the A’s Mitch Spence and a guy like this is going to keep you in the ball game he’s going to go out there compete not going to see a whole lot of flare and flash but he’s going to hand it over to the bullpen at some point and if you’ve been able to score a few runs you’ll be in it late so we’ll see if he’s able to do that for his club in this one jonathan India at the plate jonathan India and a foul ball [Music] not even close there and one and one next offering misses down and away line drive base hit right center field man aboard on the leadoff single showed some really nice patience in that at bat worked himself into a good count anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that’s great work right there and now Bobby Whit Jr swaying at a ball line to center carous it and there’s one down the short stop right there and here now the lineup for the Royals and a big part of it a guy with a great track record Salvador Perez well Boo there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does i mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me i I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not double play ball to second slinging it to first in time batting for the right field so now it’s the fourhole hitter Vinnie Pasquantino that breaking ball drops in for a strike two outs and one at scoring position just missed the one-1 is fouled off [Music] outside two balls two strikes [Applause] [Music] keeps the atbat going with a foul ball [Music] that one is absolutely belted can’t get to it as it drops into the corner india comes across to score it’s 1-1 well we’re starting over again all tied up put a very nice swing on that pitch right there got one to drive and just kept it fair down that right field line and into the corner and it’s almost impossible to track those down as an outfielder so runner at second two down here’s the Royals designated hitter Salvador Perez up and in ball one one ball no strike [Music] ball two [Music] there’s the strike runner at second two down and strike two good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in the hitting zone hard to get the barrel to it hammered down the line could be extra bases headed for the plate he’ll score easily and he’s there for the double well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win at second here with two away here’s Marana close but called a ball and that’s go one man and on second two down and that one fouled off swing and a line drive slicing into right field rooker makes the grab and that is the third out of the inning but two runs for him and they jump ahead second inning coming up here in Kansas City it’s the Royals two and the A’s won new inning getting started here’s Luis Oas that clips the corner back door him with the breaking ball just got the corner there’s nothing you can really do with that and he’s down 02 as he swings through it carl Dixon working the plate in this one you know we often hear and talk about umpires being a pitcher umpire but Bu Dixon maybe a little bit more hitter friendly than most he’s kind of tight on the corners so we’ll see if that comes into play at all in this one highf fly ball down the left field line kenna sizes this one up makes the catch and there’s one away just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left austin wins in the box now no balls in a strike one out base is empty next pitch is inside and it’s one and one downing ball here rolls foul strike him out one down base is empty swings through that one it’s a strike out well that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding the zone hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that’s what leads to the strikeout matt Schuman stands in here tried to hold back his swing there but went around two down dominion on gets the outside corner with that one come on and down on strikes and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three a’s go quickly and quietly there and our score remains 2-1 we head to the bottom of the second and to the play for Kansas City jack Kaggle Leone right through there for a strike [Music] close [Music] one doesn’t get the call and that’s ball one singi wasn’t very sharp in the first got hit around a little bit just wasn’t able to locate particularly well a lot of stuff with the fat part of the plate yeah Boo he wasn’t fooling anyone it’s a tough place to be cuz it’s not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it’s location sometimes it’s being too predictable sometimes you’re tipping your pitches he’s going to need to figure it out quickly though on the ground to third whips it to first that’s one out in the bottom of the second freddy so up now for Kansas City freddy Fine come on swaying and a ball popped in the air and it drops in so they get a man aboard with a one out single drew Waters stands in late swing fouled to the left firm mean leads off first with one away come on on the ground and that’s just foul up the middle urias glove flip to second onto first safe so they get one but a really nice try there so the lineup flips over jonathan India steps in for the Royals and first offering is fouled off swing at a bouncer towards third fires across the diamond that ends the frame royals leave one as they’re unable to add to their 2-1 lead back here at Kaufman Stadium and here’s the rookie center fielder Denzel Clark cameron back to work fast ball for a strike it’s 0 and one just missed and there’s the ball was a good pitch there billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it you get a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout [Music] that one misses so a leadoff walk pretty easy walk right there last pitch wasn’t even much to think about back to the top of the lineup lawrence Butler up next for the A’s and that one misses up and in one and0 he’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit mission accomplished just missed well he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout they had a swing and a miss there then he really sells the change up with that arm action in the air left field down the line and it stays fair lead runner to second so two on and nobody out well patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count just a blue pin behind third right there and that’s a really tough play for a third baseman or shortstop to get to the same for the left fielder so he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there first and second no outs the batter now Brent Rooker one ball no strike tying run and scoring position we’re here in the top half of inning number three ground ball to first could be two to second pulls him off the bag everybody’s going to be safe a potential double play ball hit to first is probably the toughest one to execute cleanly that first baseman he’s got a very tough throwing lane to deal with because of the runner headed to second base and a lot of times guys try to throw over or around the runner which can really mess up a throw like that still definitely an error though base is loaded nobody out next up for the A’s Tyler Soderstrom base is juiced no outs down the inside corner for a strike they need a strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something but you got to make some pitches but if he can battle and get through this he can earn some points here’s a one two gets a piece and stays alive base is loaded nobody out foul ball still one and two count foul ball left side he’ll see another i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up and a foul ball he stays alive good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat fouls it off still one and two but I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield roll to short possible two ball to Indiana second for one they get the out but the run scores on the twin killer it’s always great when you can add a run but in this situation with the bases loaded double play is kind of a rally killer nick Curts the next to hit fly to center his first time he’s 0 for one that’s a strike and one ball game is still tied they can get out of this inning with a tie game two outs and that’s in for a strike when a bat like this is almost over as it begins in this situation you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be you just got to hope that you can make contact not close with that one and it’s one and two on the ground of first Kaggleó tosses to the pitcher covering the bag that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand one run one hit one error and one left we head now to the home half of inning number three we are tied 2-2 as we go to the last of the third leading off Bobby Whit Jr right through there for a strike inside corner and that’s called a strike quickly into an 02 count both pitches were down in the zone i think you set your sights a little bit higher because you’ll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area into center field that’ll fall for a hit so runner aboard to start the inner hitting is really easy for some guys it’s one thing that I could see already his fat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time and guys like that they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane and even when you don’t get it great it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder garcia in the box lays off for ball one [Music] late swing fouled off and a count one and two with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right here this one in the air right field dives for it got it makes the play number nine so a great diving catch and that was only possible because of the route he took to get there right Chris yeah statcast shows us just how efficient that route to the ball was in fact that’s about as good as it gets pretty much a direct line to it and perhaps he was a wide receiver in a different life i don’t know but man great job to hold on all the way through the dive as well no fumble caused by the ground whit over at first with one away [Music] and that is out of play here [Music] we go gets a piece and it stays 0 and two ruer takes off in the dirt blocked by the catcher and he steals second base without a throw tied up here in the early going recognize that change up right out of the hand just spit on it rip to short throw to first in time now batting the designated hitter so the go-ahead run in scoring position and now Salvador Perez he doubled home a run at his first AB just missed well usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 200 he’s put himself in a really good spot and a foul ball makes the count two and one that’s a little bit low good pitchers make pitches in big situations and right here with a middle of the order hitter up runner in scoring position he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike and here it comes fouled off down the right side [Music] foul ball and it remains a full count runner at second two down here in the last half of the third so now two on and two outs pretty good pitch on 3-2 right around the knees but just no help from the umpire first and second two outs now the left fielder Mark Cana oh that hit him the throw is still in time and they do get the third out of the inning royals strand a pair score remains 2-2 and welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the top of the fourth now Maxy [Music] back to right pasquantino on the move towards foul ground can’t get there this one lands foul [Music] on the ground right side and it goes just fouled to the right side india and one gone in the fourth as they get the leadoff man luis Urias digs in now urias goes 5’9 in 27 years old and he’s a native of Mexico and that drops in for a strike just missed all tied up top half of inning number four the 1-1 is fouled off really great change of speeds he goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next that’s off the mark and it’s two and two well he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here 22 he’s already seen the curveball couple of times in this at bat so might have it timed up and ready for it next offering way upstairs swinging a miss that one in the dirt on the first out on the drop third strike two gone well he hadn’t seen that change up the entire bat until that putaway pitch and it’s pretty tough to deal with as a hitter you’re up there battling trying to read and react with two strikes and then all of a sudden a pitch comes out of nowhere and it’s a good change up it’s just almost impossible to hit it when you haven’t seen it here’s the catcher austin wins that one catches the zone and that is strike one two out space is empty and that one is downstairs and that is ball one now batting look what Max and now Max Schuman went down on strikes his first time through kansas City and that’s in for a strike and it’s 0 and one well he’s looking great so far it helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes he might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up two outs and that one’s a little bit low ball one one check swing and he held up here’s a high-fly ball out to center waters under it drops into the glove and that’ll do it the A’s strand one score remains deadlocked to 2-2 bottom four and now the first baseman Jack Kagleon ball one there [Applause] that one ripped but fouled and he can’t come up with it gets off a throw and he’s going to make it to first and we’ll see how they score lead off man aboard on the error and that puts your pitcher in a little bit of a tough spot right away to start the inning not where you want to be so we’ll see if he’s able to work around it and pick the defense up and here’s the catcher Freddy Fine one for one with a single so far runner on the go that one hit to right and it falls in there he’s safe didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat i don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep pretty incredible hands to fight off and still get good wood on manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen mitch Spence done for the night and a decent effort considering he’s normally a reliever back with the new pitcher in a minute tj McFarland gets the ball now well at this point of the ball game we’re talking about middle innings and he get a little length out of this arm coming out of the bullpen we’ll see just how many outs he’s able to give his skipper first and second no outs and next up for the Royals Drew Waters he’s 0 for one zack Bud towards third and a foul ball and that bunched towards third tries the bare hand and it gets by it and everyone’s safe they’re loaded well he’s just given himself up to move two runners in the scoring position right there but somehow the defense can’t get an out anywhere and this is quickly turning into a golden opportunity for this offense here’s the second baseman Jonathan India golden opportunity right here and that clips the inside corner no ball one strike kagleó on third fine on second waters out at first with nobody out just missed way to lay off that pitch down one ball one strike that one almost got him in situations like these the air can get really thin up there at the plate got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down slice the other way and fouled base is loaded nobody out we’re here in the bottom of the fourth headed down the line and that drops foul [Music] little bit low really good take especially with two strikes [Applause] paul for and a run comes in to score obviously we’re in a pretty great spot to take the lead right there with the bases loaded and I’ll say that was a good patient at bat to draw the wall and you know what still counts as an RBI with in the box now takes strike one the opportunity for a huge inning exists right here bases loaded nobody out but as a hitter can’t be over anxious that pitcher is up against the wall make him come to you that’s ripped into the outfield squeezes it here comes the runner from third throw is and he scores 42 now well he hit that one pretty well well I think it would have been a lot more than a sack fly if not for that nice play by the outfielder to track it down good job of getting the run in mikel Garcia steps in for the Royals bowl for two in this one tap foul at the plate and he’ll one to third might be two over to Aras one and that’s two but two runs for him and they jump ahead we’re headed to the fifth it’s the Royals four and the A’s two [Music] back here in Kansas City all set for the start of the inning and now here is Denzel Clark swinging a foul out of play you know these A’s looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on but it just hasn’t happened for them yet they only have one hit with runners in scoring position so a lot of squandered opportunities it’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back swing and a line drive base hit out into center field so now back to the top of the order good two strike hitting right there Boo a bit of a lost start for some so that was nicely done to beat the odds he got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point pretty impressive for an 02 count and now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases stepping in Lawrence Butler little Chopper rolls foul [Music] brother takes off in the dirt and there’s no throw he’s in there at second with a stolen base [Music] come on swing at a highf fly ball well struck raging back towards the wall pulls it in on the warning track runner tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out next up for the A’s Brent Rooker one for two this is all about situational hitting it’s crucial in this spot do whatever it takes to put the ball in play and hopefully you find a gap in the defense first pitch doesn’t find the zone action in the pen down there michael Laorenzan up and throwing reagan’s a left-hander also throwing [Music] that one missing inside and there’s a foul ball so man in a scoring position and now the tying run comes to the plate and we’re in the top of the fifth next offering is fouled back the two two on the way stripped came out looking just locked him up right there for the second out and that’s an at he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while didn’t pull the trigger not how you want to go down in an RBI spot so now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up tyler Soderstroke up next for the A’s and delivers outside well the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there have a real quick inning get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot [Music] strike one one ball one strike yeah that’s fouled off finish him ground ball left side whit over the first that’s a third out and we’re back ready to go for the last half of the inning and now the right fielder Vinnie Pasquantino it feels like we might be headed towards a rain delay if the weather doesn’t ease up chris yeah the Empire and crew going to pay attention to how the weather is impacting this game and the moment it becomes dangerous I think is the moment we’ll be forced to take a break and that one is inside come on fights that one away still one and two that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was [Music] cuts and misses it’s a strike out now Salvador Perez steps in for the Royals [Music] come on oh he doesn’t get the call and it’s one and0 check swing called strike base is empty one away last half of inning number five one ball two strikes and that one moves his feet chopper right side to reus to first in time and they get Perez for the out for the Royals the leftielder Mark two outs space is empty and to the plate for Kansas City Mark Kenna Yeah [Music] and first offering is fouled off that one down the line and that’s a fair ball oh can’t pick it up cleanly makes the turn and heads for second and he’ll make it to second base with two gone turned on it nicely definitely a little out in front of the pitch but he didn’t hook around it too much and was able to keep it fair down the line jack Kaggle Leone steps in for the Royals and that misses and that’s ball one [Music] man at second that one ripped right center field back there and this one carries into the party porch for a home run now that’s quite the party favor a two-run homer and they add to their lead it’s 62 really great job of anticipation there he knows he throws the sinker down the zone you’re trying to beat it to the spot it’s getting to well he won two outs nobody on freddy Fine steps in for the Royals lifted in the air right field rooker makes the grab and that’s the inning but two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer now a 62 ball game it’s Major League Baseball on the show back here at Kaufman Stadium top of the sixth inning and here’s the first baseman Nick Curts cameron back to work outside bullpen action for the Royals john Shriber up and loosening in the pen [Music] popped in the air left field and there’s one down we haven’t seen a break in the weather and the umpires might be forced to make a decision soon yeah I think so Boo i mean everyone looking and wondering when they’re going to stop play it definitely feels close muny stands in now and watches strike one in the air right field pasquantino should have this one reaching for it makes the catch got to love the over the shoulder catch to tell you what those are really fun to make next to hit Luis Urias in the air to left down the line Kenna settles underneath it makes the catch and go over three up three down for him there 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the sixth it’s the Royals six and the A’s two and welcome back to the ballpark bottom of the six so up now for Kansas City drew Waters first pitch misses activity in the bullpen tyler Ferguson appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves this would be his major league debut that one to first curts he’ll do it himself one away bottom of the six good sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for ball on the ground nice ground out so the batting order turns over digging in jonathan India and that one is in for a strike almost got him [Music] two out to short over to first there to beat him by an eyelash talk about being able to dial up the velocity that first baseman over there might need a little pad inside that first baseman’s mid and next up for the Royals Bobby Whit Jr this guy is one of the best athletes in the sport in there and it’s own one some hitters are just more confident if they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher they don’t care if they fall behind 01 all right Kansas City two down nobody on here in the bottom of the sixth and he grounds one to the right side urias whips it to first on the run what a play inning over royals go down one two three they lead it six-2 cole Reagan into the game and he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hitters now here is Austin wins the A’s in striking distance but have some work to do boo it starts with the laid-off man i need a good at bat out of him right here in for a strike it’s 0 and one reagan’s a 6-4 lefty he features a fourseam fast ball a change up a slider a cutter and he occasionally uses a curve and that’s a strike out looking called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone well that bat seemed to be over as soon as it started three pitch strikeout you’ve got to be better at the plate right there at least to foul something off extend that at bat matt Schuman up next for the A’s the shorts stop takes a ball and there’s the strike inside corner for a strike one two that misses two and two good job to fight that one off strike three and that’s two in a row very strong coming out of the pin so far as he punches out the first two batters he’s faced in this one getting straight to work man it’s talked about a lot but relievers are just so electric these days these aren’t fun at bats if you’re a hitter and I’m so glad I’m retired slice down the right side swing and a miss he was late strike two there might be time to choke up a little bit get that front foot down early maybe even just spread out he’s really late right now to third to first the A’s go quietly nothing doing there for the A’s they still trail it here it’s six to two [Music] we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh tyler Ferguson well he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra so this is an important outing for him to get on the right track 345 due up for the home team and the batter will be the shortstop mel Garcia 0 for three in this one pulls that one foul lined and that’s a base hit and the leadoff man aboard showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn’t get jumpy didn’t try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit move to first [Music] and here is Vinnie Pasquantino and the first pitch misses for ball one and another ball runner at first with no outs here two balls one strike let’s go here comes the pitch runner breaks for second strike in there throw to second tag and they got him you know I always felt as a base runner base steeler that you know if you can get in that first second maybe third pitch get your jump and steal second base you had a much better chance of being successful as it gets deeper into that at bat and those pitches rack up you almost get a little more flatfooted and you’ve got to be sharp to get that jump and to beat a good throw down to second base just wasn’t able to do it right there definitely a swinging miss slider down and in he finished that really well just couldn’t get him to offer at it fouled off again and it remains three and two and that one is inside and it’s ball four didn’t miss by much right there just couldn’t get the call off the inside corner so a man aboard Salvador Perez steps in for the Royals and that’s through there for a strike 01 and one 01 next offering is fouled back fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2 [Music] swing and a miss struck him out two away no that slider down and away it’s just kind of a slow death with two strikes you’re looking to protect and halfway to the plate you know you’ve committed and you know you’re going to have no chance of touching it tell you what sometimes you just have to tip your cap kenna in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike that clips the corner he doesn’t seem to like to pitch up hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches 02 count now i think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there [Music] foul ball it stays nothing and two pasquantino off of first with two away foul ball still 0 and two you got this fouls it back with two strikes also really good at bat what I like about this guy his bat stays in the zone for a long time gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches that one that close and the count is one and two well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat i’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter on the ground to short schuman inning over and we’re back now at the plate Lawrence Butler and ball one activity in the Kansas City bullpen john Shrivever getting loose out there lorenzan warming up as well pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there started on the edge of the plate with the spin you know it’s going to finish well off the plate and downstairs that one misses so a lead off walk he did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat next up for the A’s Brent Rooker one for three and that one fouled off if field pasquantino sizing this one up and makes the grab runner tags at second and he moves up 90 ft runners at the corners now one away so here’s the cleanup hitter Nick Curts 0 for three with two flyyous and a ground out on the ground of first could be two throw off he’s safe and a nice job there to keep it from getting away a potential double play ball hit to first is probably the toughest one to execute cleanly that first baseman he’s got a very tough throwing lane to deal with because of the runner headed to second base and a lot of times guys try to throw over or around the runner which can really mess up a throw like that still definitely an error though two on one out muny will hit next delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone they’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot with the tying run at the plate and we’re in the top of the eighth highf fly ball shallow right field and there’s two away now it’s the second baseman Luis Urias 0 for three with two flyyous and a strikeout and that’s in there at the knees two outs couple of base runners at first and second swing and a miss ugly swing right there two really good backto-back sliders now in an 02 count he’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off he can go anywhere he wants and a pop off right side foul territory and that’s the third out one run in the inning but they leave two home half of inning number eight straight ahead it’s the Royals six and the A’s three back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth jp Sears bringing in the lefty with a left-handed hitter coming up to hit classic bullpen move right here so we’ll see how it works out and now the first baseman Jack Kegleon he’s already homered here in this one top of the zone and it’s called a strike all right Royals that’s hard hit on the line and foul ball [Music] misses outside one and two count o2 fast ball way out of the zone i think he’s trying to speed him up got to stay back off speed’s probably coming cut on and miss struck him out now one away now the ready for me getting ready to hit oh he doesn’t get the call one and0 movement in the bullpen sha Nukem the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose and misses inside [Music] that’s in there now two and one two-1 base is empty one away here in the bottom half of the eighth inning two well he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit this ball’s chopped on the ground muny zips it to first two up two down center fielder number eight Drew two down base is empty and to the plate quiet there as they’re unable to add to their 6-3 lead welcome back and here comes the closer Carlos Estz save opportunity for him right here and he’s their guy time to lock this one down and get out of here with the W and now the catcher comes up to him austin win and that one up and in look out oh the adrenaline’s pumping right there pretty good fast ball unfortunately it got away from him he’s going to have to corral things a little bit that one well upstairs and now 2 and 0 chopped to third with in plenty of time to first and they get the lead off man in the ninth if you want to be a great defense you have to deliver consistently it doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw matt Schuman up next for the A’s 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out check swing called strike just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days i never would have had a chance outside low one ball one strike curve ball drops in for a strike the Athletics trailing by three here in the top of the ninth on the ground right side india sends it to first two up two down that’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game it might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today but it needed to be made that’s helping your team the Athletics down to their last out denzel Clark up next for the A’s first offering misses badly for ball one swings through that that was straight right there two down to that’s to third dives and he can’t hang on the throw comes in too late he’s in safely and now there’s a runner at first one out away from this game being over but an infield single keeps them alive they’re still breathing and maybe this provides that last minute spark man at first Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s pitch misses inside and that’s ball one clark leads off first with two down to the inning swinging a foul straight back awkward swing there from the big left hand hitter off balance as well estz is just one strike away that’s down and in and it remains two and two [Music] two outs full count pressure Mountain right here with the tying run in the on deck circle he’s got to find the strike zone three balls two strikes to count and they’ll do it again ground ball right side and that’s just foul and it stays fair coming home he’s safe and it’s 64 well that gets him a little closer in this one wasn’t able to elevate that one but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield there’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that now a huge at bat in this game coming up so runner at second two down rooker the next to hit that one finds the corner strike one they’re down to their final strike tying run at the plate and a swing and a miss and that is the ball game well not all saves come easy but he didn’t let things unravel good win for the team today and this one ends with a final score
