the Bash brothers quickly became the fresh young faces of baseball behind the scenes however was a different story far from being brothers many who watched how the two interacted while out of the spotlight began to question whether Mark and Jose were even friends maguire was usually seen as the second best of the duo while Conco often resented his bad boy persona especially when compared to Mark’s relatively cleancut public image whatever the case though these tensions did nothing to stop their let’s call it professional collaboration on a near daily basis Jose and Mark would retire to the clubhouse bathroom sometimes before batting practice sometimes after and load up on their uh vitamins this was a routine occurrence and it wasn’t really a secret either in fact it was during that very same MVP season that Cono was called quote “The most conspicuous example of a player who has made himself great with steroids.”
