the puck is down and we are underway calder Cup finals game number one between the Charlotte Checkers and Abbottzford Canucks checkers will begin with the puck in the offensive end here’s John Leonard swings a pass out to the slot goes off a skate will come out into the neutral zone the Checkers just pump it right back in checkers have that trademark aggressive for check and here it is back below the goal line squirts out front chip back to the blue line the Checkers can knock this one in pinching up the right wing side is Havora as he pins his man against the glass now Guom Breeze pushing this one forward as Abbottzford gets their first opportunity to work this one into the neutral zone now tied up at the center red line it’s really been all checkers here in the first 45 seconds so far yeah and Charlotte’s already got a line change in i I think he Jordy wants to get everybody going it’s been a long break so the quicker you can get them going and roll them over everybody gets into the game that probably helps you a little bit with uh you know some of the butterflies right just get him out there and absolutely it’s good to get hit better to give one here’s Sassin trying it again left wing feed to BL right back to Sassin he’ll get it to the right corner for Waters leaves it for Kovich kucks looking for one last setup and here they have it in the line kudraatzv to Blade left circle stick handles he’s got a chance in the slot and it’s stop rebound sassin scores max Sassin gets the first goal of the Calder Cup finals as he buries a rebound 1526 to go and the visitors are off to a great start sassin using his speed as he picks up the puck through the neutral zone what he does so well rims it all the way around klimovic is able to get it up top to Kudriatv bla makes a beautiful move gets himself into the heart of the ice takes a shot goes off the blocker and Sassin right sitting on the doorstep to bang in the first goal of the Calder Cup finals 1526 left abbottzford won charlotte Zero the hero from game six Max Sassin with goals in consecutive games and how about the hands by Sammy Blade there Landon what an assist he’s going to pick up i mean he’s got he shows how much he can use his body but when he’s got the puck on his teeth he’s got And now Sassin keeps it inside the line sass with a backhander to Carlson high slot under some pressure from behind and able to protect it look at him go now he’s tied up finally by the big frame of Haborca fans appreciate the effort but the Canucks still have it hanseni chips it around the net good pressure by Abbottzford 1245 to go now John Leonard to the point held in by DJ Sepy his shot stopped by Cocket and he’ll hang on for a whistle and we will step aside the score Abbottzford one Charlotte nothing goal that’s that’s critical right you got the power play there on a change allows the checkers to find the loose puck 4 seconds left to go benny finds his man here’s a shot okuli he scores with just half a second left to go here in the first the Checkers have a 21 lead you play to the whistle yes absolutely what a what a transition and uh make no mistake about it he you play to the whistle they looked like Abbottzford gave up a little bit thinking there was just a couple seconds to go and uh you don’t usually see Slavs get beat from that far out but uh what a great shot a final second goal for sure as the puck is dropped and that will do it on the opening 20 as the Charlotte Checkers have a 2 to1 first period lead what a great first period mckenzie end whistle oliver Okou your goal scorers for the Charlotte Checkers it was Max Sassin getting the tally for the Abbottzford their pass up off of sticks the Checkers with good pressure they get control once again at the center red line into the offensive end here’s Chris Colo great feed to himself his sharp angle shot a little too fine and come out to the right wing corner they score justin sort of picks the corner and the gets down he He takes an off angle shot but he’s keeping momentum going and this is an excuse me shot here again high on on the goalender is obviously the scout report and yeah that’s that shot mentality swords get a chance to rip it and there’s a bit of a screen and uh yeah there is two he gets it through uh gets it through some traffic and uh uh again they’re all big goals but uh it’s a stops in the corner lost the puck tries to tie up Pure Foot waters will work it to the left wing for Blé not to the point for Kudrav traffic in front back to Blow drag shot hit the post good chance for Bl and then Neielson feeds a point it wasn’t anywhere near Kudraatv and ends up all the way down in front of Giloff that’s as far on the inside post it can hit without going in it ricochets all making it a lot tougher on the uh on the forcheing uh opponent slow rolling puck kind of got out in front but the checkers with a turnover here lockwood shot blown blocked down just as I say that muffing up the middle look like me and Mensley here’s Ket shot through traffic tickles the outside of the net got to rise out of the crowd back behind the the goal there they thought maybe that one went in but hit the outside of the cage and it forces Abbottzford to send this one the length of the ice that’ll be an icing call here with a minute 52 left to go here in the second period 3-2 and good pressure there absolutely and I I put my foot in my mouth obviously saying how good a job everybody been doing but it just that’s that margin of error i mean uh uh you know obviously the the Absford player got got just in his own head trying to make a play there he turns it over and uh a couple chances and icing and here you go so the uh the margin for error is not very big at at this time of year well the Charlotte Checkers got a goal at the end of the first period the right point for Woo traffic forming in front last minute of play wrist shot tipped wide by Max Sassin assassin behind the net does a nice job of freeing it up for Carlson right point feed for Woo wrist shot save rebound comes to Wan who just jumped on wannon behind the net for Carlson he’ll chip it to an empty corner to himself nice play there carlson back door pass wan has a man in front it rolls towards the crease sass taken down that’s going to be a penalty but Will Lockman might have saved the goal as he hauled down Sassin who was looking to lift it home on the backhand but instead he was dragged to the ice and will land does an unbelievable job selling this he’s looking up to the far point and ends up throwing it to Sassin who was just coming from behind the net trying to hit him back door but it hits off the defender’s foot cochan has to make a great stretch save off his left pad and as you mentioned that was a good one to take i mean you already had Capo Cochan kind of pulled out of position trying to make that rebound save as this one is knocked loose here comes Sordiff on a break has a step in front of the defender dangles around backhand chance saved by Sheila’s puck is loose and Sheils will cover up sort of was certainly pestered from behind but no call well this is that opportunistic penalty kill and uh again uh Sort of’s been so good at this and you know he’s trying to go high here but uh I mean that could have been a that could have been a hook and uh on that play but yeah but but again a heck of a save by uh by Sheiloff staying with will give chase the checkers are going to peel back to the bench and get a forward change that allows Abbottzford to skate out with it through the neutral zone kicked across it’s brought in up the right wing side neielson cuts to the front of the net shot in saved by Cochan and he managed to gobble that one up after a body bumped into him as well outstanding not only outstanding save but a good rebound save too again Coch holding his ground that’s such a hard play for the goalie to make and the puck bounces our way he’s able to get the rebound but a good a good strong move to the net that’s such a tough play on a defenseman uh obviously forwards they work on that all the time and it’s hard to get that step on a guy but uh great goalending again have a third period comeback as Ty Mueller brings it in right wing feed for Neielen right circle in front for Mueller and he scores they’ve tied it mueller off a great feed from Neielen 33 period with 1146 to go they gain the gain the zone in the middle of the ice he throws it out wide off off the turnover mueller throws it outside neielen makes a nice move to his backhand puts it right back out in front and Mueller’s able on his forehand to deflect it to the far side over the pad under the blocker of Cochanin and all of a sudden just as you were asking for it Brandon 33 1146 left in the third when you make winning plays Landon that don’t show up on the score sheet the hockey gods will look after you and Ty Mueller parked in front ties it up at intercepted by Lenus Carlson now into the offensive end sliding up the left wing side here sassin with a shot saved by Cochan the net comes off it’s Moring so we’ll get a whistle here with under five to play in the third period that was awfully dangerously close to perhaps being a penalty yeah a great transition as we said it several times here uh tonight but uh again heck of a save by C that’s tough again as a goalie you got to hold your ground you know you got a guy coming at you sends that one just barely out over the stick of Jet Woo this one’s going to be knocked down here’s a short-handed chance shot saved by Sheilobs john Leonard with the puck once again and another gradea short-handed chance for John Leonard heck of a kill here by Charlotte but uh you know again another big save um that’s the guy you want to put the puck on his stick at the end of a game like that that’s for sure so maybe we’ll get another look here in the last two minutes and we’re back to even strength here with one and a half left to go wilmer Skoo trying to knock that one out to center he gets tangled up getting some help here into the offensive end chris Golo has Scoo cutting out in front chriso with it base of the left wing shot in saved by Sheil he’ll hang on with 119 left to go here in the third and now the extracurriculars are back again those second and third efforts cruscool going to the net skoo Smith uh you know you gain a little momentum with uh with uh with Johnny’s with the steal and uh they had a couple good solid saves but a huge I mean huge kill again by the Checkers uh I think if uh if they find themselves on the right side of this score uh the penalty killers are going to get a lot of uh a lot of credit for that now still some jawing out there wilmer Skoo involved and you know I think that ice is really starting to come to play i think that’s well it’s Oliver Okoular to take this draw one clean back excuse me that was Zent Whistle 18 not 38 tied up in the left wing corner 10 seconds left to go now along the left wing boards checkers skate out to center they’ll flip this one the length of the ice this one’s going to die so they’ll wave off the icing here and that is going to send us to overtime 3-3 Checkers and Canucks next goal wins this one as we head to sudden death and these two teams on the season overtime has been something that they’ve seen a little bit for the Charlotte Checkers they played in two overtime games so far they’re one and one in those games on the other side Abbottzford watching or listening to this game it has been an absolutely electric environment so much fun here on this Friday night our players step to center the puck is down and we are underway for overtime tobias Bjornfoot will get caught up let’s see if the Checkers can own the offensive end a little bit here in this period loose puck out in front carlson with a shot hits off a stick and will go out of play another quick strike we’ve talked about it at Nauseium how Abbottzford likes to play yeah absolutely again uh you know winning a 50-50 puck just inside the blue line chriso to take the face off another one of those New Jersey born forwards oh we’ve got a penalty coming here a huge collision up high on Trevor Carrick and the Checkers with a golden opportunity coming up the cash pop power play here in the first overtime looks like a fourminute if I read that correctly shouldn’t be guessing but he looked like he put up uh a 4minute U it’s all right if you’re guessing we’ll figure out the real answer anyway don’t worry about it that’s pretty bad oh maybe only two here okay okay they’re calling it a high stick and the guilty party is former checker DJI former teammate Trevor Kerry just a two okay i uh you know what for the Charlotte Checkers they’ve got the puck skating with speed out of their own end aspen tape to tape finds his man Leonard right-wing wall pushes back to the point here is Sissana down low leonard out in front shot saved she allows rebound is loose checkers have control leonard out to Cissana over to Aspen now Leonard settles it down his shot misses wide will go out of play the Checkers with some great puck movement there 20 seconds left to go here in the cash pop power play 641 remaining in overtime hand eye coordination down in front of the net and that’s everything you want right there i mean that that you’re you’re you’re just not finding a way to to put it past the goalender but uh I think our power play unit would take that chance those type of chances all day long and I think that’s what you need to do against Sheilob you know as a former goalender I’m sure you can speak to yeah maybe there wasn’t an official shot on goal there but that lateral movement having to follow that puck left to right left to right I mean it’s exhausting yeah it wears on you big time and uh again he’s veteran move here knocking the net off here to get a breather that’s old school uh that that translates no matter where you’re from so um that’s a uh get a guys a little bit of a break but uh you know from a momentum thing here you know if we can keep some pressure on that next shift again after this if we can’t get the goal to go in towards the point it’s going to be intercepted now twoon two thes come into the offensive end play into the left wing corner here’s Kirststead as he wraps this one all the way around Chrisolo bumped off the puck centering feed and Cochinan calmly corrals that one and we’ll get a whistle here with 332 left to go in the first overtime and pushing and shoving forcing Capo Cockin to take a little bit of a walk like Wilmer Scoop drug down Sammy Blake he always uh always always s amazes you too they’re they’re d they’re dying on the ice and then uh he’s Are they going to take them both is the question kyle Chriscolo looked like he took a a little bit of a punch to the face there knocked his lid off and the arm immediately went up but it looked like they were signaling both players i would uh I would imagine in this situation they would take both but I’ve been wrong a couple times tonight already [Applause] wilkey I’m proud to say you’re wrong i know wow checkers to a cash pop power play oh I’m proud to say it at this point but I’m proud to say I’m as soon as he could i think there’s about 8,000 people in this building that would like to see that now the players step to center ice we get set and ready to go for the second overtime as the puck is down and we’re underway it’s going to look a little sloppy here I think as we go on as these teams get a little bit tired your fine motor skills not quite as sharp as they were and that could be what Yeah you’re you’re really stressing you know short shifts obviously to keep the energy level up but really hard puck plays i mean you may not have the legs but you know maybe you can make a good hard puck play and get out of trouble right that’s what uh that’s what you’re hoping to do to keep moving that uh puck but again um guys are tired you know again keep him give him a chance to take another uh uh change if they want to which they did they did a wholesale so again good smart veteran goalender there uh again controlling the play the way he wants it and uh and that’s uh and that’s a skill these guys learn that’s why they always say you know playing as many games in the minor oh oh they score it counts sheilop wasn’t paying attention neither were we the puck rolls in and they score the Checkers take game one [Applause] well we’re going to have to hold on here i We said I had seen Bizarre that uh that was a legal faceoff the goalie was not ready but that was a legal face off i mean there the sticks were down in my opinion there is a Congress at center ice oh they’re going to wave it off head coach Jordy Conir on the bench i I Sheilov’s had his back turned to the play the sticks are down the sticks are down the sticks are down i don’t understand i I get it he was fixing his equip but the sticks were down oh wow how can you overturn that i I don’t know how you can overturn it i can honestly say I’ve never seen this one i’ve seen a lot i’ve never seen this one [Applause] so let’s see i mean they’re still talking about it with the Checkers players but I just don’t understand how what what’s overturnable i mean the it’s a legal face up sticks are down guys are ready none of the officials stopped the play no none of the officials stopped the play so I I don’t understand and this is head coach Jordan Conir is getting the explanation right now from Steven Hif our official i mean I I under I understand you don’t want it to end well we would like it then like that but but but at the same time none of the other officials on the ice stopped the play only until it went in the net did they stop the play i I I that’s confusing to me this will be uh I have never seen anything like this i I’ve never seen anything like it but I also I I I don’t understand why here we go again and the checkers going the other way here’s Mike Benning up across the blue line over the left wing side sort of his shot saved by the net miner she loves rebound out in front puck is still loose all kinds of chaos and we finally get a whistle 1134 left to go here in the second overtime 3-3 is your score and Sheilob’s making a couple of saves there as it was crazy behind the net yeah the play we’ve been talking about that we’ve been looking for and uh you know Benning comes up a little limp there but again good wide speed going to the net t that textbook hockey try to jam one in and Sheilops again there with the save he’s uh he’s certainly taken home as the star of of this game and uh not what we wanted but uh um you know that’s uh that that’s good hockey there for sure that’s the way you’re going to have to jam sass here he comes down the left wing sassin takes it wide knocked off his stick cleovich trying to help him out it’s in some skates and Cleovic has it looking back door takes a shot and he scores let’s get out of here denila Cleovich just called game one his second OT winner of the playoffs and the Canucks lead the Calder Cup finals one- nothing what a snapshot out the post and in and this one’s over folks and in typical Abbey fashion it’s all about winning the second battle the puck gets locked in the left corner climovic is in there not giving up he digs it out and as he starts to go up the half wall he realizes I don’t have any pressure on me that’s a different feeling from what we’ve had tonight he cuts to the net and fires a twisted rer off the far post on the glove side of cockinan post and in game over 43 Canucks take game one that’s why he played it kid one snap of the wrist he can change the direction of the game and what didn’t have a lot of room but it didn’t matter he beats Kacing clubside and the Canucks escape with a 43OOT win and again who gets another doubleot game winner danila Cleovich as the Canucks head off to the locker
