🔴LIVE 🔴Milwaukee Brewers vs St. Louis Cardinals – June 14, 2025 | Envivo | MLB The Show 25
here in Milwaukee MLB the show has action out of the NL Central it’s the St louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers first pitch coming your way next about to get started here and getting the start number 39 and Chris he seems a lot more comfortable pitching here at home than on the road right indeed Boo and there can be several factors whether it’s just sleeping in your own bed being around your family going to your favorite restaurant before you come to the ballpark i don’t know what it is for him but the numbers are clear that he’s been dominant in this place the only frustration is you see how good he is at home and if you’re a teammate or a coach you’re looking and saying “Hey if you can be almost as good as that on the road you’re going to have a great year and we’re going to win more ball games.” Next offering is in for a strike [Applause] that one hammered left field and it one hops the wall into second safely it’s a leadoff double to start the game love how he let that ball travel his hands nice job of going the other way win runner in scoring position no outs mason Win next up for the Cardinals on the ground to the left and that’s just foul the 01 and that is out of play one two in the dirt but kept close nbar stands at second with no outs to the right side terang one out in the top of the first here’s a Cardinal lineup now one guy leading the way offensively for this club right now ivon Herrera tops on the team in batting average boo a guy who’s showing off some excellent bat-to ball ability when he digs in at the plate you know that’s useful if your team needs to get an inning going get a leadoff man on but it’s also incredible to have a guy like that in the lineup because he’s a run producer who can drive in runs if you’ve got guys on base already so he’s a huge piece in this lineup ivon Herrera in the box now no balls in a strike felt impressed that he went right after him on that first pitch that’s the key try to get ahead in the count then you can play around a little bit more as the at bat expands there’s the strike i understand you want to try to gauge that guy’s fast but you also have to be aggressive and ready to hit in your zone now you’re in a tough spot [Applause] cut strike him out two away certainly a strikeout situation right there the infield playing back and this pitcher has to step off and get the swing and miss really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate pretty big two out at bat coming up now wilson Contrarus now up to the plate let’s go Chad now a screamer into the outfield drops into the glove and that is that it’s the Cardinals nothing and the Brewers coming to bat it’s Major League Baseball on the show back here with my pal Singi and our pitcher in this game Matthew Liberator and Singi we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots i’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure he’s more calm and settles in he’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the dugout highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side [Applause] ground ball up the middle quinn on the run sends it over to first it’s there and that’s a great play let’s take a look at the Brewers lineiel a very athletic offensive group with speed spread throughout this offense yeah and it’s so important that they have patient and quality at bats because the key is to get on base if they do that then they can create a whole lot of havoc on the base pass get runners around to score and then that’s going to get you some good pitches to hit as well so a very athletic team and we should be in for a treat in this one it’s not the standard approach that we see in today’s game but it does work for them offensively jackson Chorio batting with one down takes a strike next offering in there for a strike and it’s nothing in two was a good pitch there really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout to first and here this afternoon too quickly away in the bottom of William Contras two down base is empty and now it’s William Contrarus check swing called strike no balls one strike check swing called strike and the count is 0 and two this guy’s pounding the zone hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches swaging a ball hit out towards left center field makes the grab on the run that is the inning scoreless after one back here in Milwaukee top of the second now it’s the right fielder Alec Burlson just off the outside edge next offering is in for a strike making the calls behind the plate in this one is Woody Keller yeah and Woody does a pretty good job back there Boo he’s got a pretty fair strike zone most of the time maybe some inconsistency here or there but usually he’s back there doing a solid job that’s a strike across the top of the zone chris the players ever change their approach in meaningful ways based on who’s umpiring or is it good to just be aware of tendencies so you’re not that surprised i’d say the latter because pitchers got to pitch to his strengths regardless the hitters got to hit to his strength so you’re aware of it but you have to just hunt for what you can handle line drive and this one looks like trouble makes the turn and heads for second and he’s there with a leadoff double good two strike hitting right there Boo a bit of a lost start for some so that was nicely done to beat the odds ripped that one down the line and kept it fair and even when you hit it that far out front you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don’t hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory and that right there was perfect runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game here’s Nolan Aronado ball one no strikes you got this Milwaukee out in front rip foul [Music] man at second and that one is lifted in the air freigh running hard to get it long run tracks it down and there’s one down those can be pretty fun as an outfielder got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down nothing better than that you feel like a wide receiver playing football so the go-ahead run in scoring position nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals first off and it just misses that one fouled off i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up one out and a runner at second and that is downstairs ball two that one is hammered right field freeland raging back towards the wall and it’s off the wall runner from second crosses the plate and he’s there with a double that’s a good job right there got two strikes on you just got to battle [Music] one out runner at second and here’s the catcher Johel Poso right through there for a strike [Applause] got the bat going too soon and strike two one out and a runner at second here in the top of the second a defensive swing right there some cheese on the inside part of the plate bet the hands are still stinging after that one the O2 swanging a ball drilled center field chorio sizes this one up and puts the squeeze on that one and there’s two away daddy the center fielder number 11 Victor Scott and now here’s the speed threat outfielder Victor Scott this guy can absolutely fly i think one of the faster players in baseball [Applause] that one’s upstairs ball one two outs and one at scoring position next offering pop foul off to the right out of play [Applause] that one hammered but pulled fouled [Applause] misses and it’s two and two really good take especially with two strikes misses and the count’s full he’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here i love it gorman at second with two down swings through that one it’s a strike out so they pick up a run on two hits no errors and a man left we go to the bottom of inning number two it’s the Cardinals one and the Brewers nothing [Applause] back here at American Family Field we head to the bottom of the second now here’s Jake Bowers bower Liberator back to work on the ground right side and it goes just fouled strike two two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an O2 count if you’re up there at the plate you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down on the ground gorman fires over to first and a quick out number one batting fifth the first baseman Ree and it’s Reese Hoskins up to the dish [Applause] and fires in a fast ball at 95 looks like a really good fast ball today you can hear that catcher mitt popping looking forward to hearing a lot of that one in this one little bit low and that’s ball one one out base is empty swinging a foul back that’s out of play got him swinging that’s the first cutter we’ve seen today and it was effective good late cut for the strike out there that thing really got in on him and you know the cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot you’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact but that one right there did a whole lot more than that that was a really good pitch two outs and a swing and a miss there’s that slider that pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track cut on and lifted in the air nukebar makes the grab and the inning is over we played two innings it’s one to nothing and we’re back here’s the left fielder Lars narbar here we go here we go nuke Bar getting the start in left hitting lead off in today’s game and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2018 pitch misses and it’s a ball and a strike [Applause] right through there for a strike a one two count all he’s seen is fast balls you got to expect something off speed stay back started to go after it now a look down to third he did not go around next offering misses full count three and two swung on belted way back there and out of here he’ll circle the bases his ninth homer of the year it’s two nothing he absolutely crushed that one no doubt about that one Boo we knew it wasn’t coming back knew what pitch he wanted to hit spent on some other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid off mason win next up for the Cardinals and that one a little below the knees ball one [Applause] and another ball with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters the sweeper catches the inside part of the plate for a strike you know these cards doing a great job Boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them they’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well fly ball to right freel it in and there’s one away it’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run not allowing it to stay in the head but going to work at the next hitter and a tough one at that and now it’s Ivon Herrera three pitch strikeout last time up got to put up more of a fight in this one still relatively early but with a pair of runs already on the board the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game ripped but a curls foul [Applause] one down base is empty swing and a foul pushed off to the right part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they’re definitely looking to do some more damage pitch in the dirt it’s two and two swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field so they get a man aboard with a one out single now batting the really nice job staying up the middle with his approach he didn’t try to do too much with the pitch just shot it through the infield and up to hit is Wilson Contrarus he’s 0 for one and that’s a little bit high and it’s one and0 let’s go Milwaukee inside just missed well usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 200 he’s put himself in a really good spot that misses and it’s three and0 he hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day he’s in danger of walking his first batter right here that one finds the zone and the count is three and one [Applause] now that’s smacked to right center and it gets by him lead runner around second rounds third headed for the plate he’ll score well done drives in the run when you connect and it jumps off your bat like that you’re thinking double at the very least put a great swing on it and man he wasn’t fooled at all alec Burlson will hit next doubled his first time [Applause] basketball is outside contraras over at second one down next offering is down low and a count now two and nothing [Applause] on the ground right side whips it to first and there’s two away up next for the Cardinals the third base here’s Nolan Aronado aronado i’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound this guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year and this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here and that one just misses a ball and no strikes and another ball two and that’s in there for a strike the slider that finds Lamar dangerous spot for that slider right there didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break tell you what he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again next offering upstairs Nolan Gorman up next for the Cardinals so now two on and two outs now batting second base so two outs with runners on the corners nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals doubled his first time up misses outside and that’s ball one [Applause] that’s a bullet but it goes foul [Applause] the one-1 is fouled off [Applause] kicks and deals cuts and misses it’s a strike out they put two on the board on three hits including the home run no errors but two are left stranded we head now to the home half of inning number three it’s the Cardinals three and the Brewers nothing and welcome back to the ballpark and now here is number 21 well after putting up a nice inning on offense got some runs across this is where you look for the starter to go out there have a shutdown inning don’t give that other team any hope uh you just hope that he can get through this inning get the bats back up there while they’re hot 2-1 [Applause] just missed [Music] and that’s ball four and that’s how they get their first base runner of the game oh that’s a really good take right there and that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on the TE you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with not easy to lay off but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance joseph Ortiz stands in now and watches strike one [Music] swing and a miss and it’s 0 and two man he was really tardy on that fast ball great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball add some velocity to it on the next pitch can’t catch up and he couldn’t hold back he’s rung up on strikes well he made pretty quick work of him right there you look at the sequence everything down at the knees and below and some guys are good low ball hitters but right there they clearly had a plan to pound that part of the zone and he wasn’t able to put up much of a fight and now the catcher comes up to him eric Hos headed towards the corner and it runs the wall coming home he’ll score easily it’s around the board and picks up an RBI really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay bat just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws back to the top of the Milwaukee order this is Bryce Terang 0 for one so far pulls that one foul h leads off second with one gone in the inning just missed well the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there have a real quick inning get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot [Music] and a one-1 swings through that one for strike two clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can’t fault him for his commitment now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes that misses the zone and the count is even two and two the guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception he knew right away it was an off speed pitch goes down looking just locked him up right there for the second out in that’s an at he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while didn’t pull the trigger not how you want to go down in an RBI spot so now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up swing and a popup foul territory for the catcher poso pulls it down and that will end the inning brewers pick up a run on this RBI double it’s now a 3-1 ball game back here in Milwaukee John Shambi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Joho get out of here that one finds the zone that’s strike one movement in Milwaukee’s bullpen dl Hall the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose prey the right-hander also getting loose there’s a swing and a drive way back there and it’s off the wall but foul line to left and foul ball flew open a little bit with that front shoulder but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch keep the bat alive next one misses now one and two wow that’s a tough pitch to lay off highf fly ball out towards left center bowers makes the play and there’s one down now batting the center fielder Victor next Victor Scott he struck out swinging at his first at bat up in for a strike went with the sweeper base is empty one away top half of inning number four that one just misses one two out to short ortiz over to first that’s an out good fade and sinking action of that change up got that hitter to roll over now batting left fielder Lars Nar back to the leadoff spot in the St louis lineup lars Nbar next up for the Cardinals he’s already homered in this game first pitch misses that clips a corner so a foul ball makes it one and two [Music] and misses inside two balls two out space is empty now one out to right freelick makes the grab on the run [Applause] bottom of the inning up now for Milwaukee william Contrus william Contrarus and the first pitch misses for ball one well these Brewers just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone you can’t do much of anything with those locations and that’s been true again today that one a little bit high now two balls in a strike and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand spoils that one and it remains two and two [Applause] ball three count [Applause] on the ground to third sends it across to first lead off hitter retired in the fourth he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution and next will be the cleanup hitter Jake Bowers and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter boom over 80% of his first pitches are strikes you’re doing that you could have a really good day out there on the mound and a seed into center that’s a base hit so a man aboard now with one away i’m sure he feels really good about that one that’s about as textbook as it gets got his stride and lo out of the way early he stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front man that was like he was in the cage hitting off a TE and here is Hoskins 0 for one he struck out swinging last time and that one upstairs ball one [Laughter] [Applause] mvp bowers leads off first with one away that one hit to right that’s a base hit and they’ll have runners at the corners after a one out single two consecutive base hits for this team that can be a dangerous pitch if you don’t get it inside enough because as a hitter you see it coming across the plate the whole way no problem handling it and putting a good swing on it that time runners at the corners here one away and stepping in is the speedy Selick just missed he’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam [Applause] and that gets the top of the zone for a strike one ball one strike no tough spot right here couple runners on two ball count you can’t nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it’s going to bring in some runs lefty out of the stretch runners at first and third and that’s downstairs and outside way to lay off that pitch down [Applause] two on one out and they’re all loaded up well the stage has been set for this offense bird it’s all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here here’s the third baseman an opportunity right here [Applause] and that’s through there for a strike it’s 0 and one but I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield that one’s upstairs ball one ball loaded up we’re here in the bottom of the fourth [Applause] late with the swing there just threw that fast ball by him elevated and if you’re not looking up in that location very difficult to catch up to especially with that velocity just misses with that one man oh man i don’t know how you take that pitch that’s as close as it gets foul ball left side he’ll see another base is loaded one away [Applause] [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out and now the shorts stop joseph Ortiz went down on strikes his first time through or [Applause] tapped at the plate but it’s a foul ball late swing fouled all look out that ball is smoked man I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just to ensure safety for the fans last thing is a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit win and that ends the inning so they load the bases but leave him stranded we’re headed to the fifth it’s the Cardinals three and the Brewers one now pitching for we’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth quinn Pester and one thing on him he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park not an easy guy to take deep mason win digs in now 0 for two in this one win [Music] the shorts stop takes the ball you know these Cardinals simply put are producing a lot of quality swings they have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far and that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher hand really well with all those extra base hits it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game they seem to be really locked in at the plate line drive short hop to third to first nicely done for the batter the designated hitter Ivon Herrera next is the designated hitter Ivon Herrera one for two looking good and that misses one and0 and that one wrapped foul [Music] slice down the right side that misses the zone and that’s ball two struck him out of the front door breaking ball two outs base is empty here’s Contras now come on swing and a miss and he was fooled this guy’s got such a good sinker as a hitter you’ve got to look up in the zone if you look down you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt check swing no appeal really good check swing right there so difficult to hold off on the slider from a same side thrower very difficult to pick up the release point and a foul ball [Music] one two to Contrarus now one missed swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt hass up with it to first in time the two-3 strikeout ends the inning we head to the bottom of the fifth and now Eric eric Liberator back to work and that’s in the dirt well these Brewers looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on but it just hasn’t happened for them yet they’ve had their chances with runners in scoring position but nobody’s been able to deliver a big hit in those situations and another ball and you got to give some credit to the other side as well they’ve been able to get out of a few tough jams but frustration is mounting for this offense no doubt there’s the strike three and one [Music] that one misses so a lead off walk well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot didn’t offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first now it’s the second baseman Bryce Terang right through there for a strike and I know you want to be patient as a hitter but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight and he got one right there but look the bat on his shoulder that one misses and that is ball one late on that fast ball with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right here [Applause] in the air left field down the line and that lands in no man’s land a foul ball that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was that’s the ball this guy’s a fun guy to watch taking at bat he just battles up there he doesn’t take a pitch off at all makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there you could tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away [Applause] good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the bat double play ball to second here’s win for one and that’s all they’ll get good that they weren’t overzealous there just take the shirt out keep the runner out of scoring position jackson now here is Jackson Chorio and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike this is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play that misses and one and one man at first one away [Applause] this one in the air right field and that drops foul [Applause] definitely a swing and miss slider down and in he finished that really well just couldn’t get him to offer at it line drive and this might be trouble lead runner makes the turn at second and it gets by him headed for the plate well here we are third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated one down runner at third next for the Brewers William Contrarus [Applause] swing and a fly ball well struck left field high bounce kicks it over the fence that’s an automatic double as a run scores well this one started with a bad jump a bad read off of the bat he ends up having to try to leap out of desperation can’t come down with it and it turned into extra bases here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen matthew Liberator out of the game and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout back with a new arm after a quick break now pitching for new pitcher for the Cardinals Sunonny Gray and he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year typically at least one in innings so he’ll be tough to get to so the go-ahehead run in scoring position bowers getting ready to hit check swing called strike now a one and one action in the St louis bullpen andre Palante the young right-hander up and throwing man at second late that time and it’s strike two one ball two strikes swing and a highf fly ball left field new bar on the move pulls it down and they’re two away up next from the Brewers the first baseman Reese Hoskins reese Hoskins to the plate [Applause] [Applause] hoskins pushes a foul [Applause] swings and misses that’s strike two crush left center field this one’s deep forget it a gigantic blast it’s 53 listen to these fans this place is absolutely buzzing right now you can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth [Applause] really great job of anticipation there he knows he throws the sinker that one down in the zone you’re trying to beat it to the spot it’s getting to well he won so two down and now S freelick he’s 0 for one he swings and misses at the first pitch 0 and one just missed next offering is in for a strike four runs already in the frame last half of inning number five that one not close and the count now even up swinging a ground ball up the middle lays out but he can’t squeeze it no throw and he’s out at first so a man at first now the third baseman a strike out and a walk pitch misses there ball one one ball no strike [Applause] he’s getting a little frustrated out there on the mound getting hit around a little bit let’s see if he can settle himself down two and0 to Cal here it comes right through there for a strike [Applause] two outs next offering misses down and away chris with that distraction and a speedy guy at first he’s in a favorable hitter count well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in hit in the air center field scott sizing this one up he makes the grab and that’s the third out so they move out in front after a fourrun outburst we’re through five it’s the Brewers five and the Cardinals three and we’re back all set for the top of the six now up for St louis alec Burlson and that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play burlson measures 6’2 in 26 years old and he was a second round pick in 2020 in the air right side running hard to get it grabs it on the run and there’s one down that’s just a really nice catch on the run right there he’s saved extra bases for sure if the pitcher’s his friend he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch [Applause] aronado in the box again takes the strike activity in the bullpen aaron Ashby the left-hander is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go mcgee a right-hander loosening up as well that one hooked fouled [Applause] and now one and two and that’s outside swing and a miss struck him out of the slider and there’s two gone boi just ran out of patience there he took a couple of pitches to even that count up and two balls and two strikes but that time chased outside the zone here’s Nolan Gorman that one outside and it’s one and0 two down nobody on and we’re the top half of the sixth here’s a rocket out to left dives but it kicks off his glove now batting catcher Yel Yohel Poso next up for the Cardinals pitch misses there ball one and another ball gorman leads off first with two down to the inning [Music] right through there for a strike brewers next pitch a slider that misses outside victor Scott in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Music] and ball four to a board not what he wanted to do there Boo that keeps this inning alive and gives this offense a good chance to cut into their deficit first and second two outs victor Scott next up for the Cardinals [Applause] that misses the zone one and0 two on two outs next offering is in for a strike [Applause] this one chopped on the ground but fouled [Applause] swaging a ball hit out towards left center field he’s got it and that’s the third out so it’s no runs on a hit no errors and two are left 891 scheduled in the bottom of the sixth it’s the Brewers five and the Cardinals three back here at American Family Field and now Joseph Ortiz climbed the ladder with that fast ball and that’s strike one meanwhile activity in the bullpen kyle Ley getting loose out there now this is in the air down the line burlson calls it in and there’s one away the catcher number 13 Eric here’s the catcher eric C swinging a foul straight back [Music] lifted in the air right field burlson snags it for the second out the batter number two second baseman Bryce Bryce Terra now at the plate 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout popped foul out of play off to the right next offering in there for a strike oh with two now two strikes fouled off the plate they’ll do it again [Music] and they’ll do it again and down on strikes and good work there as he gets a one two three brewers go down quietly and it remains 53 now pitching for the new pitcher in the game Eastston McGee these are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close there’s not much margin for error but at the same time there’s a reason they’re put in these situations and stepping in for the Cardinals Lars Nbar he blasted one out earlier in the third just a solo home run but an important swing of the bat in this game we’ve already seen him do it once can he do it again and the first offering is not close foul ball there pretty good pitch to take a pass at and a one count just not able to square it up and now two balls in a strike nasty back door slider there’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it so that’s a good take by him just missed next offering is fouled back swang at a highf fly ball well struck back there onto the track and he makes the catch now batt Mason win and up next for St lewis Mason win down the left field line looks like extra bases now he’ll turn for second and that’s a double all over that one right there off the bat that one registered at 105 mph man that is smoking and these days you hear it all the time but the numbers just don’t lie if you can drive a ball like that more often than not you’re picking up a knock really important at bat coming up now one out runner at second ivon Herrera the next to hit one for three oh he doesn’t get the call and that’s ball one as a pitcher you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed a base hit is probably going to be a big run so you really have to execute on the mount [Music] [Applause] just missed gets the slider in there for a strike with the tying run at the plate here in the top half of inning number seven [Applause] next offering is in for a strike and a slider misses down and away wilson Contreras in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Applause] the tying run at the plate comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt two away now after the drop third strike well done behind the dish he’s really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fooled here comes Wilson Contreras [Applause] fouled off he was late [Applause] [Applause] swing and a miss looked off balance that time this guy’s sink has so much drop in it it’s almost like a split finger fast ball instead of just weak contact and balls on the ground he gets swings and misses [Applause] tying run at the plate look out that hit him and it hit him he had two strikes on him eddie hit him and here comes the Brewers manager to the mound pitching change coming eastston McGee won’t go any further and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base back with a new pitcher after this now pitching for new pitcher now Aaron Ashby this is his fifth appearance of the year aaron Ashby and now the right fielder Alec Burlson this is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation yeah Boo not sure what the numbers say but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically [Applause] 0 and two now spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another win the lead runner at second contrarus on first with two down [Music] that one back up the middle and it gets through around third the throw in safe and the runner from second scores on the play and now they trail by one back against the wall with two strikes but found a way just kept it simple played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there’s just no one there to knock it down now a huge bat in this game coming up here’s Nolan Aronado top of the zone for a called strike [Applause] and that one way outside and it’s one and one on the ground to first but it kicks fouled [Applause] so the tying run at second hit hard on the ground is short they took the force out that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand but the RBI single pushes across a run it’s down to one at 54 it’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh kyle Ley on for the 30th time this year number 62 Kyle Ley jackson Chorio digs in now the center fielder Jackson Del Rio and there’s the strike [Music] foul ball [Music] pitch misses and the count is one and two that’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count oh yeah and the next pitch is way outside he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked [Music] chopped to the left side aronado and one away in the bottom of the seventh now batting the designated hitter William william Contreras up now for the Brewers he’s a catcher by trade but the DH here in this one there’s the strike base is empty one away here in the bottom of the seventh next offering down in the dirt on the ground to first he takes it on his own two up two down fast ball groove right down the middle usually a lot of damage done with that pitch a hard grounder but he wanted to get that ball in the air maybe drive it into the gap so now it’s the fourhole hitter Jake Bowers all right Milwaukee there’s a strike well he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit fast ball for a strike next offering upstairs [Applause] that one ripped that’s back there and that one hops the wall safely into second he’s got a double couldn’t have timed it up any better than that pretty much just a textbook double into the gap and when you can drop one in there between the outfielders you know you’re making the turn at first just an excellent swing now the batter now is Reese Hoskins can’t forget the two shot he launched out of here in the fifth yeah one of the biggest swings of the game Boog as he looks to make even more of an impact in this at bat right here hoskins pushes a foul [Applause] way out front for strike two no balls two strike [Applause] battling here as he fouls it away runner at second two down off the mark there and the count one and two and it’s fouled off they’ll do it again now it’s off his glove as the slider gets away from him probably ruled a pass ball as the runner moves up to third got him looking for the strike out that was pretty nasty milwaukee leaves one they lead it 5-4 now pitching for welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth dl Hall he’s been so good against lefties [Applause] so digging in Nolan Gorman the second baseman Nolan Gorman that misses and that’s ball one just missed right now behind in the count two balls and no strikes no free passes you can’t allow that this one lifted in the air left field squeezes it and there’s one away up next for the Cardinals the catcher next to Joho [Applause] and the first pitch misses in the dirt trying to hold a one-run lead and we’re in the top of the eighth next offering in there for a strike and a count one and one [Music] [Applause] looking to get the tying run on base to swing it in a bit speed with a fast ball so they’re making a move for a bat off the bench brendan Donovan big spot for him here there’s a strike out of the corner for a strike 0 and2 oh this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes even a good pitch early in the at bat if he’s not ready to pull the trigger he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count very solid inning on the mound so far here in the eighth holding on to this narrow lead this is exactly what they were looking for up and in going to count one and two lefty continues to work but the closer getting loose in the bullpen that’s way outside and that’s ball two misses just off the outside edge i think that was a strike it’s getting squeezed a little bit here late got him looking and a nice singing board there as he sets him down one two three red Birds down quietly they trail it 5-4 now pitching for back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth phil M well he’s a big time strikeout guy out there this season averaging more than one per inning now into the ball game on defense jose Barrero he’ll be patrolling center field number 27 well one-run game sal Freeland getting ready to hit in the air left field down the line reaching down makes the catch that’s a tough play for the infielder ranging back into the outfield there’s part of him that’s saying “Hey where you at outfielder call me off.” But he stayed focused and made a nice catch right there here’s the third baseman and first offering is fouled off you got this out to center ferrero in position puts it away for the out the batter number three shortstop Jose here’s the shorts stop at the plate joseph Ortiz 0 for three in this one gets under and pops it up gorman makes the catch and over gone in order are the Brewers as they hold on to a 54 lead now pitching for back now and on the mound the closer Trevor McIll left-handed at the plate and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year so this seems like a calculated move back to the top of the order and here’s the St louis lead off man Lars Nuke he’s already homered here in this one [Applause] swing and a pop off in foul ground makes the grab one away one pitch one out he’s two outs away mason Win will hit next one for four with a double [Applause] swings through that one 0 and one so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days you would think that hitters have made the adjustment but I don’t know if you ever get used to it just pumping gas out of the bullpen lays out oh it’s off his glove no throw and he reaches safely couple of hits in a row for him here fielder got a piece of it but the way that thing came off the bat no surprise at all he couldn’t pick it cleanly it’s a very difficult play and that swing definitely was deserving of a hit and now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first ground ball right side it squirts through quick throw back in lead runner holds it second with one gone well that at bat had a lot of pressure riding on it so really great job coming through right there it’s got to feel good just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it man sometimes that’s all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole a chance now to even the score and maybe extend this game contrarus in the box now takes strike one the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone they’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot two on one out foul off down the right side got him swinging for the K cardinals now with just one out remaining well classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out that fast ball on the pitch before was off it was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and he can’t make contact so they’re down to their final out now up for St louis alec Burlson almost got him one-run game here in the top of the ninth that’s off the inside corner two and O two O’s to count and a strike right through there that one in triple digits that crosses the plate and now they’re just one strike away from getting out of this mess the Cardinals down to their final strike 2-2 up the middle to first go game and the Brewers strand the go ahead run to hold on for the win that looked like the pitcher was getting into a little trouble there but quickly brought out a pitch that isn’t what most hitters are looking for with that great velocity but it was really good movement on the change up and a nice win today close one here today and your final 54 they hang on to win it by a run for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show I’m John Shami saying so long
