well good afternoon or actually good evening good Saturday night Damn I don’t even know what time of day it is anymore Mark Holmes here and as always I want to say thank you all for watching going Okay hope everybody’s having a great day Um I took advantage of having my kids down and we worked on the house I planted like some uh can of lilies over here I put a vent outside uh from the basement to the outside with a a vent fan and stuff and got Mike to run some more outlets and things down there Uh we got some more plants and stuff and put those on the porch back the deck on the back there I got a bird feeder over there cuz my wife put these fake plants up here and the birds decided we going to make a bird’s nest in here So there’s a bird’s nest in here and a bird’s nest in there And so we figured we we’ll at the pear tree back there we’ll put a bird feeder so that way they can get fed Um so we’re trying to be one with nature And something I haven’t seen in quite a while we got lightning bugs out here which I haven’t seen lightning bugs in a while I think they’re disappearing Somebody my daughter said they said that we’ll probably be that they’ll be the last generation that’ll see lightning bugs because you know everybody’s using all these uh lawn sprays and stuff to kill the mosquitoes and things but they’re killing even the good bugs and stuff So yeah things are changing rapidly Anyway saw something that wow it makes you say “Okay I like hearing this.” We have a lot of players that are on prove it time that it’s time to shut up and show what you got We’ve got players who have been touted that we’ve drafted kind of high in the draft that have yet to show up one that I had when we drafted him I was excited as could be because he was like 6’4 260 and he was fast And that was Sam Williams And Sam Williams has had a few good plays He was kind of like Randy Gregory um where he’d get flashes and things and you know give you some hope that he was going to be able to do great things but then on special teams he’d make sometimes a boneheaded you know penalty But the thing about Sam Williams is he’s got the prototypical height He’s got the build and he has more speed than what you can imagine Here’s what’s crazy and this is what’s good because last year they were looking and saying “Okay we can let go Doris Armstrong We can let go Dante Balor and we can rely on Sam Williams.” Unfortunately he tore his ACL um in the beginning of training camp and he missed the whole season So we’re going into his fourth year where he’s only had two seasons that he’s actually played in And it’s [ __ ] or get off the toilet time for him And coming off an ACL that’s not always easy thing to do We know that it takes time to get over an ACL tear Um at least him having having it happen in training camp he’s had almost a year recover So he’s had more than most most guys are tearing it up during the season Be that as it may he ran the second fastest um in training camp excuse me in mini camp He ran 21.4 miles an hour Let me say that again 21.4 The only person who ran faster than Sam Williams did was CD Lamb at 21.9 That is incredible news that you say “Okay he’s got speed he’s got size he’s got strength and you know although with an ACL running straight ahead isn’t as difficult as it is when you’re planting and cutting That’s where the stability comes in But that bodess well because you still have five more weeks of rehab that you can do before sorry before training camp starts and you might end up seeing him do some damage Now I would say he’s probably the third or fourth best pass rusher on the team right now but this is an opportunity for him to turn things around and become the guy that you want to have You know the thing that people always think is you’re always going to play at this elite level every single year and there’s some positions that take time to develop If we take Demarcus Lawrence Demarcus Lawrence’s rookie year he did not have a sack until we played the Lions He had two against them His second year he ended up having I want to say seven or eight sacks and had flashes his third year he was suspended for peeds and I think he hurt his ankle I want to say and ended up with like one sack that year and he was so bad that the Cowboys basically wrote him off after his first three years and that’s why they drafted Taco Charlton because they were basically like we ain’t got anybody who can who can rush the quarterback but it ended up being that fourth year that Daw uh really came around and came into his own and had 14 sacks and was like third place in defensive MVP voting So you know there are times where season you know careers start off kind of slow and make you think man this guy can’t hunt and then all of a sudden you become really really good Now for him he’s going to have to fight He’s gonna have to do a lot of work to get his ass on the field because you got Dante Valor of course you got Micah Parsons you’ve got Donovan Easy who you know they said that guy can really bend the edge and do a whole lot Um you’ve got um Marshon Neland There’s a lot of guys into that mix in that rotation that you’re going to have to show up and show off in training camp to be able to get an opportunity And then there’s Pton Turner too I almost forgot about Payton Turner So you got a lot of guys that can rush the passer And with this competition you got to feel like this team is going to be able to rush the passer Now what we’re going to need of course is we’re going to need the offense to help out the defense because if the offense can score points I’m tired man It’s been I’ve been busting ass all day I just finished cooking dinner for everybody Um steak and potatoes and grilled corn It was great And that’s why I’m in a food coma Um but basically having Father’s Day dinner and I cooked it the day before so that way the kids can back up the road so they can go to work on Monday Um but they’re going to have to fight it out to figure out who’s going to be starting and who’s going to be sitting their ass down and getting a beer from the coach Right Brian Shanimer And I like the fact that people just aren’t annoyed at a starting position that you got to go out there and perform to get your spot And I think through competition as they say iron sharp sharpens iron Um that that will bode well for this team being battle tested before the season gets here All righty good people I’m going to go up here because I know I stink I smell badly Um haven’t been out here in the heat and the humidity sweating my ass off and um but I feel good Even though the tree behind me here the little trees over there I was trimming that up and cleaning some of the vines and stuff so I put some mulch down And there’s a a snake out there Yeah he lives kind of under the trees He’s got a snake hole there so I got to be careful Yeah All righty I see you’re back All right boy That was
