What Is Next For The Dallas Stars?
the Dallas Stars have a big off season ahead of them After being eliminated once again in the Western Conference Finals many questions arose and they already answered one of them with their head coach Pete Dbor has officially been let go after having one last year left on the contract with a lot of drama pursuing from it So we’ll get into that in a second But your reaction to Pete Dbor getting let go The thing with Pete Dbor is this guy just can’t get over the hump right he has some great records He has obviously been a great coach in the NHL Undefeated in game sevens you’re like “Okay this guy’s clutch You know he could do it.” But then these past three years he couldn’t get over the hump to reach the Stanley Cup finals for the the Dallas Stars He fumbled a big and again with the San Jose Sharks with only one finals appearances with that Sharks team led by Thornton and Marlo and obviously getting smoked by the Pixar Penguins in I believe five games in that series He couldn’t do much with a Vegas team who was coming off a finals appearance in their first ever year of existence So Pete Dbor great NHL head coach great coach in the playoffs as well but it’s just he just has this reputation of a guy who just can’t get over the hump And with the Dallas Stars now it’s been three years in a row So again even without this drama of the Drake Arer pulling there was still going to be some speculation that like is this dude going to be good enough for the job because at the end day the Dallas Stars next step is to make a Stanley Cup finals appearance So when we last recorded the when the Dallas Stars got eliminated along with the Carolina Hurricanes we did that pretty much right after the final whistle right like we didn’t listen to the press conferences at the time We didn’t listen to what was what was said at the exit interviews at the time So we were going with like oh meme whatever right it it was obviously a lot more serious Like we were still confused of why he pulled Oringer in game seven and you went with Casey to Smith even though you were down early just the way you handled that situation with the not just pulling him like the way it was kind of like a tantrum like get the hell off the ice like what are you doing type vibe bro exactly right like it’s an elimination game so with with that like obviously rubbed not obviously the wrong way but it also apparently rubbed a lot of the Dallas Stars the wrong way um listening to a Dallas Stars um reporter he said that that wasn’t the ultimate reason why he got fired That may have been like the finishing touch of things but there may have been stuff behind the scenes we don’t know about The the players may have went through cuz they expressed um uh concern to the management about like okay this is what this is not we’re not going to be winning with this guy Uh obviously what other stuff happened right three years in a row now you you lose in the conference finals Listen it’s all credit to him for getting there but at the end of the day we know what the end goal is and that’s to lift lift up the Stanley Cup So Pete Dbor has that like you said the reputation of not getting it done when it needs to be done most outside of game sevens but like obviously we know the Stanley Cup final and he’s shown to throw goalies under the bus especially we saw what happened in Vegas with Mark Andre Flurry and how that was handled So like he may so show a laidback attitude at times but then like once he kind of like he gets stubborn with it and then he’ll burst I guess that’s the best way I could put it Yeah I mean it was kind of it was very questionable right of pulling I think he was also one of the main reasons why Logan Thompson was left out of team Canada this year because he was part of the coaching staff and all that like he didn’t have the best experience with him in Vegas which again makes no sense because that’s Vegas this is Washington and this dude was playing as Vzna level so I guess his just relationship with goalies is just never really been that good and here’s the thing I guess my look my take on it is be the reason why I guess he burst is because he kind of lacks adjustments right he has his play style and it’s great right it gets him to the playoffs It gets him to a conference finals but it just feels like when things are like literally when their back is against the wall it just feels like he’s not the one taking responsibility rather than just throwing out blame like he did to Jay Conjur saying that he’s not a goalie that could beat Edmonton Yeah Right He doubled down after that saying like yeah like the reality is he cannot beat Edmonton now It’s two years in a row Reality is you’re the head coach of this team You also could not beat them anymore Reality is the players couldn’t get ahead of him either That doesn’t matter We’re talking about Dbor players don’t matter The reason why the reason why you got to hone in on Dbor right how the hell is Rick Tocket able to make a game plan for Conor McDavid and Leon driveidle and you can’t and Rick Talk is not even obviously you’re not the coach either but Rick Tocket and the Vancouver Conucks team is a very inexperienced playoff team when the first time they came out of Florida to take Edmonton to seven Exactly right Um the LA Kings did it for at least two games this year The Vegas Golden Knights did in the past when Edmonton go to get over that hump So I just don’t understand what he is trying to prove here because right now it just seems that you don’t have a game plan for the team that just has your number It’s just simple as that right because McDavid and Dryidle pop up the most against Dallas They did it last year right after they were down 2-1 They just took over the series DBOR had no answer This year after game one they took over the they took over the series in game two and Dbor had no answer It’s a simple thing and the same thing over and over again is that Peter Dbor does not have an answer when his back is against the wall And that is the reason why he has failed so many times at winning a Stanley Cup He’s done it with San Jose He’s done it with Vegas And now he’s done it with Dallas All three are cup contending teams Yeah there’s there’s nothing wrong with the roster There’s nothing wrong with how it’s built It’s just that that head coach just can’t figure out a way to finish the job It’s if you guys are basketball fans it reminds me of Tom Thibido in a way if like then who the New York Knicks also fired So there’s a lot of similarities there Speaking of basketball if you guys are basketball fans we do have a basketball channel called Beyond the Basket that will be linked down below We do talk about those New York Knicks and our uh NBA Finals predictions there as well So make sure you guys head over there and subscribe the button after done watching this video But going back to like Yeah The last thing I want to say about Peter Pete Dbor and and the coaching thing in general One were you surprised like like there’s one year left in the contract I thought they would have wrote it out because at the time of his firing every head coaching vacancy was filled right like like everybody like Dano was officially um head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins Um Lane Lambert was officially Seattle and all that Every every spot was filled Maybe those guys are pissed Like why the hell did you guys wait what couldn’t we wait another week it was one of those situations where like it’s like it’s kind of unexpected but you’re not surprised like you’re like okay wow it happened but you’re like then you think about it like I’m not really surprised because now you’re looking at it the drama with the Andre situation and you’re looking at the results for the last three years it just hasn’t been there something needs to be changed and the the first step for the Dallas Stars offseason plan is to get rid of the head coach and find a new guy the only issue is who is that new guy going to be yeah so yeah there I don’t know who’s really available at the moment like the NBA was different there were some big names out there Are they going to take the New York Knicks next approach and take ask every team to interview there’s only one guy that’s coming up to my mind right now and obviously that just because we’re Abbisford Canucks fans and Vancouver Conucks fans in general and what Manny Mohotra has done with the Abbisford Canucks this year Nobody expected the Abby Conucks to be in the final of the Calder uh of the Calder Cup right at the midway point Yeah because when you’re looking at it they started off a little bit slower than they did in the years past Jeremy Colton also did not come back So it was like first time as as a head coach Yeah First time as a head coach He was been an assistant and job before So he has some experience but first time as being a leader and he’s done a fantastic job taking them all the way to the final Right It’s just not playoffs final Whereas Peter the board did not do with the Dallas Stars take that team to the finals I know it’s NHL and the AHL is a big difference but at the end of the day there’s a reputation and it’s been the same old recipe for Pete Dbor And I know it’s the you shouldn’t look too much into it but at the end of the day Manny Modra did something that Peter Dbor couldn’t in his one year of head coaching essentially So here’s the thing right are they going to go the veteran route are they going to go a first time NHL head coach route which you mentioned are they going to go an assistant coach route like a Spencer Carbury um did who had prior head coaching experience at different levels right Obviously like you said Manny Modra I think there’s a more there’s a more obvious answer Um it is the guy the Texas Stars head coach which is their AHL affiliate which is Neil Graham ironically enough did not get past the conference finals in this case their version losing to the Abbottzford Canucks But Neil Graham was like the guy line next in line most likely Neil Graham is a I don’t know much about him but listening to other people listening to Elliot Friedman saying hey this the stars do fear that if this guy doesn’t get elevated they might lose him in the next one or two years aka Manny Multra for us their version of that right so like I if I were to say the most realistic option at this point um is Neil Graham gets elevated maybe Manny Mhotra because he isn’t he’s going to be playing in the Calder Cup finals uh that’s upcoming at the time of this recording and or it might be vet route Peter Lavolet is a name again available He does have a good first year with teams So maybe that’s what they need They need a guy to get over the hump He is a cup winner Yes granted it was an 06 with the Carolina Hurricanes Um obviously got like Gerard Golant I’m not saying he’s the answer but like guys like that are potentially available as well Where would you go with this Dallas team though i would probably go with the reason being is if this this guy’s been the one sending out players right you think about that as well Like like you look at it I know Stankov is not on a team anymore but like Stankovven why Johnson and I don’t know how long he’s been there He might have done it with Jason Robertson and obviously Oringer as well but if this guy the Texas Stars have you know in the NHL have usually been a good team you know for the last few years It’s a it’s a it’s a team that people know because obviously one stars stars match up but like the Texas Stars like kind of are just like kind of like the Dallas Stars right they’re they’re just solid team baby stars right literally they are And uh obviously him you know essentially coaching half the some of the roster already and helping them develop is going to be a huge benefit because the players know what to expect already and there’s not and it’s going to be not with this hire It won’t be it’ll probably take the least transition time uh from the coaching and players perspective So we’ll cap it there We’ll wait till they officially hire a head coach when we make our next Dallas Stars video I’m going to transition off that Neil Graham point because I do agree with you because now you got to look at the roster right there’s a lot of rumors about Jason Robertson and I’m looking at the Puckedia page right now The players that are locked up granted they are their mainly c some most of their core is locked up Miko Rantin we know he’s locked up Uh Rupe Hints Wyatt Johnson Jakeer Meroin Slendell So the only one that’s not really locked up in my opinion are Jason Robertson and Thomas Harley Thomas Harley’s gonna like he’s a number one They’re gonna bring him back They’re gonna bring back Thomas They have a lot of UFAs here So I’m going to start off with the UFAs first before we get to Jason Robertson Jamie Ben UFA Matt Dashane UFA Reason why they’re significant Jamie Ben is their captain and Matt Duchain was a leading scoreer in the regular season right didn’t have the greatest in my opinion Another big name who had a good year for them when he got traded there was Muel Granland These guys are UFAs So you you got to figure out your cap structure for this That’s why it’s a big off seasonason for them because they need to figure out and the reason why I’m saying Neil Graham is a good point option is because he could he’s able to bring he’s seen guys that are in his organization that are especially the young guys that can get called up and play on a cons consistent basis at the NHL level Obviously when you’re looking at it there’s a huge veteran pieces that they’re going to be missing Muel Brand Granted was a solid goal scorer for the Dallas Stars and obviously anyone could use goal scoring whenever you can Jamie Ben being the captain I’m probably least likely to wear the same thing Obviously I’m not I won’t bring back Jamie Ben personally Uh I think his time as a Dallas starter should be up in my opinion unless they find a way to do get a cheap deal done He was at 9 mil before He’s definitely getting There’s no way he’s getting 50% or more cut from that It has to be like a 70% cut It’s going to be half for sure More than half It has to be more than half So because of that I I him he might want to he might he might want to you know run this thing out with the Dallas Stars But again I think it’ll be tough to bring Jamie Ben back I know it’s be tough losing your leader and a veteran experienced player but those are some decisions you’re going to have to make to I guess upgrade this roster in terms of cap Duchain again he’s going to command six seven He’s going to be Yeah he he played his his stock is up right i know it’s a bad regular season right but regular season wise I feel like his stock is up and a team teams that are desperate right because this free agent class is not the greatest Teams are going to be desperate and might overpay for him Hopefully the Canucks don’t but they might overpay for him So that’s why I feel like it’ll be tough to bring back Duchain as well But then that also frees up some money to bring in what I think the Dallas Stars need most physicality because I don’t I think they just been to me Dallas Stars in this last three conference finals just been outbattled out fought in my opinion right and that’s not the thing with the effort thing issue I would just like send essentially just like the other team just can lay a beating on you and it’s going to take a toll on the game Like physical hockey is the most important thing in uh other than obviously goal scoring and goalending in playoffs So if the Dallas Stars do want to bring two of these guys especially Duchain and Ben back I do I I am predicting Ben will be coming back on a on a cheaper deal for sure I feel like they still need a guy like that in the locker He’s still a hard hitter heavy hitter you we see what Corey Perry’s doing Evander Kane’s doing and uh Brad Moran’s doing in the Sting finals I feel like he’s not Jamie Ben is not at the level at those guys Maybe Evander Kane just a little bit but I don’t think he’s better than any of those guys but again locker room presence is still a big deal and he could still provide that type of pest type vibe right so at question at the end of the day if you want to bring those guys back then it might be at the expense of Jason Robertson who’s making 7.75 mil He has one more year year left in the contract before he’s officially an RFA which means he’s extension eligible Uh Mason Marchman one more year before his UFA He’s been good for them uh these last couple years at 4.5 million The big contract that I’m seeing right now which is going to be tough to move maybe you do a buyout candidate I don’t know Tyler Sean who missed the whole regular season I believe or most of the regular season um because of an injury LTI there He’s at 9.85 for two more years So now granted are you able to move away from Tyler Sean and retain little salary to bring back Jason Robertson you might have to Mason Marchman is a good candidate to move because he’s a UFA at the end of the day Anyways how much like listen Jason Robertson was injured in the first round Jason Robertson is a main talk here and he’s a main talking point Jason Robertson is a guy that’s going to bring you back the most value in my opinion If you’re trying to really look for a change and really trying to do something this offseason to I guess throw something different in next year’s regular season and postseason Jason Robertson is going to have to be the guy that gets moved just because he’s a guy that he has the age proper age right he’s still got to enter his prime He has not the worst contract and he he’s a well he’s gonna get a payday Yeah No but like at the moment not the worst contract so it’s gonna be easier move than Sean’s nine million Yeah And the quality of the player Yeah Exactly And then obviously look at the quality of the player right like this guy and when he’s on his game he’s one of the best goal scorers in the NHL right and I know there has been obviously quite a bit of an injury history with him now recently but overall Jason Robertson is the most valuable movable piece in my opinion just because he might bring back the best return And the thing with Jason Robertson is like you’re going to get a good player back right and that type of player you want to get back is preferably a very solid or multiple very solid two-way players right because like I said before the Dallas Stars lack what the Florida Panthers have which is pests and physicality and obviously rats And I know this guy’s a free agent but again it’s going to be a type of player they’re going to need It’s Sam Bennett Like it genuinely is because that’s what like they’re genuinely missing an answer to slow down McDavid and dry settle right or any of the main superstars in the Western Conference Finals because one either they get too gassed to get there and they will be gassed to get there because they’re playing a central which is a tough division and then number two they can’t outscore their problems right like Miko Anthony as great as he was in the first two series got shut down in the third se third third series and because of that they weren’t able to outscore their problems yeah right and uh so for that reason like guys like Sam Bennett are going to be needed on this team if they want to improve in my opinion because there’s going to need to be some sort of change because you got your main you got your big boy You got you’ve done the hardest thing You got your big boy a guy who could drag you out of the most shittiest positions possible like game seven third period against Colorado Literally drag you out of the most shittiest position possible and carry you to the second round of a playoff and carry your carry carry a team on his back through a playoff series along with Jake Yeah Along with Jake in that one right like you you already have that So what with Jason Robertson again goal scoring very important don’t get me wrong but right now the biggest concern for me is finding answers to slow down others players superstar other team superstars That being said before any of you guys get crazy in the comments I don’t think they’re getting Sam Bennett Sam Bennett’s most likely to stay unless that team decides to overpay him heavily Um that’s just I’m just using as example Yeah Yeah I’m just saying that in general I’m just trying to clarify your words before people start saying oh my god he says Sam Bennett it’s going to be a dollar store But I agree with you I’m not disagreeing with you what you’re saying I’m just saying like the real in the realism side of things I don’t think that’s going to happen But we’ll see what happens there Right At the end of the day they got um their goalending duo set up right we already got Aringer locked up Um they have Casey D Smith for two more years at a 1 million which is good Good backup goalie there And he was good during the regular season as well this past year Um you have your defense Listen they’re going to get Thomas Harley set up You got two number ones in Heiskin and Harley You have a good number two uh top four guy in SL uh as their other guy We’ll figure out how they close that rest of that out But you still have three solid guys there in my If you could find a way to get a a solid stay at home defenseman with Heisken in yourself If Tanv did not want to go home that bad oh this team would have been way different But so yeah it all comes down to this Like ultimately let’s close it out here Do you expect Jason Robertson to get moved more so like I’m sure they’re going to try to move Mason Marchman and Tyler Sean and all that but ultimately in what draft is in like two weeks at the time of this recording do you ultimately see Jason Robertson getting traded um or do you see him sign getting an extension done with him and Harley and go figure out the rest i’m not trying to say that Jason Robinson has to go No Right Like I’m going to clarify that Jason Robinson does not have to go for a Dallas Stars to be successful because at the end day he’s still a very vital piece of this court Yeah Right And we’ve seen like I’ve mentioned before the Washington Capitals took a long time to win a Stanley Cup with a Vetkin and Backroom as Kusnet off and with John Carlson right it took them a long time They did make adjustments here and there and obviously but like the main pieces were still relatively there and Jason Robertson is still a main piece Yeah Right Along with Rantin Hints Heiskin Oringer all these guys he’s still a main piece So it could take some time for Dallas Star just to like okay get up get over the hump because at the end day some of these players just do disappear right that’s the thing like here’s I I I said what Dallas does like why Dallas isn’t Florida and that’s because of the physicality and the pest but why Dallas isn’t Edmonton is because Edmonton’s depth without McDavid and Dryside on the ice stepped up heavily whereas these guys without Rantin on the ice did next to nothing Jason Robson had good late surge late in the Western Conference Finals but that’s about it Otherwise was a JC Otherwise Duchain was pretty useless Why Johnson had the worst plus minus rating in the playoffs Rupe Hence did get hurt a little bit but he was a non-factor offensively And then other than Robinson’s lit last three games of the playoffs he was a non-factor offensively as well The only guy that showed up was Miko Rantin and even he kind of and then he obviously cooled down in the by the third round but then again not then by then you have no chance because nobody else is stepping up So yeah know ultimately if they need to try to keep Jason Robertson that’s just my opinion but again the reality is at the end of the day the cap may be going up but you have a lot of spots to fill This is not basketball where you need minimum five to seven like five guys minimum but like seven eight guys right this is like 12 yeah 12 forwards plus extra that you need for injury purposes or whatever and then obviously the defenseman and the goalie Do I see a world where they trade Jason Robertson yes The way the way the reporting I’m seeing right now from the insiders Elliot Friedman Frank Cervelli whoever it looks like they teams are calling and Dallas might need to do it if they want to bring back the other UFAS that did help them during the regular season But it also all comes down to the head coach which head coach they’re also going to get how is their farm system and make the decisions out there Dallas at the end of the day is a really good run franchise They know what they’re doing So there’s no concerns about that I’m just going to say this right now As long as Colorado doesn’t do anything like crazy Yeah I’m already penciling in Dallas for next year’s Western Conference fine Like as simple as that because that’s how good of a team they are I think I’ll say semi-final right now penciling that in But okay Yeah Well that’s obvious like but like let’s be honest right like it’s between them and Dallas at the or Colorado at the moment Like they have to go to Central right like I have them over Winnipeg still when it comes to playoff hockey And then obviously Colorado for me is their main competition And right now two years in a row they’re showing them that they could beat them As simple as that So yeah like I’ve already penciled them in there because they already are that good of a team My ultimate question to you last time we did this video about Dallas we asked who’s better for the f who is better off for the future Carolina or Dallas after knowing the cap situation after now knowing that they need to get a head coach have you changed your mind about that decision no You’re still sticking with Dallas is still better set off Dallas is way better set off right when you’re looking at Stanley Cup contenders you’re looking at at least six solid forwards two good lines three solid defenseman and a solid goalender right dallas has a edge in the goalending Dallas has an edge in the defense and Dallas in my opinion has an edge in the forwards just because of main reason is they got Mico in off of Carolina So yeah I mean like I’m pretty sure you would agree like you’ll take three of the main Dallas defenseman over Carolina’s even though Carolina’s supposed to be a defensive team but they’re they only have one defenseman who does all the job right you take over Freddy Anderson even though both of them have choked in the Western Conference Finals still better And then uh obviously I just mentioned they have Miko Rantin and Jason Robertson and Rupe Hints which I is a core I will take right now So Dallas fans comment down below what you guys think What who do you want as your head coach who do you think will be the head coach and we want to hear your thoughts in the uh description
