sending out McKenzie Gore for the start in this one while the Miami Marlins will counter with Yuri Perez and Perez didn’t have the best season debut um he really struggled and really labored through it you know and got chased fairly early gave up four runs on four hits over three innings of work had five strikeouts and it was held to 70 pitches so you know if you’re looking for sort of a uh a uh silver lining was that you know maybe he you know with with more time at the major league level we’ll sharpen up and you know I mean like I said it’s his first start at the major league level since September of 2023 so can’t necessarily fault Perez for that um even though we were on the other side of Perez in that one but um you know Perez gets a decent matchup here against a Nationals lineup that at one point was was providing value you know only as recently as a couple of weeks ago in that series against the the Arizona Diamondbacks but I’ll tell you entering Saturday they’ve lost six straight the offense seems to have just dipped off a cliff and right now there’s just there just doesn’t seem to be any sort of value backing you know the Washington Nationals they got crushed in the opener i’ll see how Saturday’s matchup goes but I just I think that this could be a decent matchup for for Yuri Perez to sort of get himself back in form on the other side though you’ve got McKenzie Gore who’s been in great form in his last four starts quality starts in all fours giving up two earn uh two earned runs or less in all those starts you know pitching to a uh a rock solid ERA over that four start stretch i said over a combined 25 innings of work he’s given up just three earned runs in RA just over one in that stretch and you know I think that you know Mackenzie Gore will pitch well here i mean it’s not easy to pitch to a 1.08 erra in a four start out uh four start run and let’s face it you while while the Miami Marlins in the last two weeks basically in the month of June have one of the best you know stat lines as a unit in baseball against left-handed pitching hitting 320 with a great team OPS number the second best Bab in baseball i don’t think it’s sustainable because I don’t think this is a lineup that we can really trust against left-handed pitching historically we’ve not been able to trust it and even though you know we’re talking about a decent sample size of 105 plate appearances it hasn’t translated on the field into wins and losses but you know I just think that Mackenzie Gore is a solid out a solid starter that’s faced tougher lineups than what he’s up against here and I think this is just going to be a lowcoring game to the first five once the bullpens have their say maybe that’s when the runs break through i mean Miami’s bullpen RA over the last week is at 6.75 washington’s is at 3.78 so I’m going to roll with the under in the first five between the Marlins and the Nationals and that’s going to be my free pick but just a reminder if you
