NBA Insider Believes The Detroit Pistons Have A Real Shot At Santi Aldama?

hey guys what is going on anthony here with Pistons Talk hope you guys had a great weekend in today’s video I wanted to discuss NBA free agency and how it pertains to the Detroit Pistons now a couple of weeks ago we got a report from Mark Stein and Jake Fischer that the Pistons were looking to add a stretch five to the roster and they were linked to three stretch fives that they had internal interest in and those three stretch fives were Miles Turner from the Indiana Pacers Nas Reed from the Minnesota Timberwolves and Santi Alama from the Memphis Grizzlies now all three of those guys in my opinion would be huge upgrades to the Pistons front court because they can all spread the floor pass and defend now Jake talked on his podcast about this again and there were some things in there that I want to play for you guys and we can talk and react um about the Santi uh the Naz Reed in the Miles Turner report so let me play the video for you guys and we’ll talk right after uh Jake is done talking we’re hearing that Detroit one particular arch type of player that they’re evaluating are 7 foot stretch big men so in addition to Miles Turner we are on the lookout for the Pistons to try to be a player for Nas Reed and we’re definitely looking at Santi Alama as a potential target as well he’s a restricted free agent so the Pistons could in theory put an offer sheet on the table that would make life a little bit tricky and annoying for the Memphis Grizzlies by comparison to Miles Turner’s unrestricted situation and the fact that Nas Reed is a player option that he has a lot of control over which gives him some wiggle room to have negotiations with Minnesota before he actually would become theoretically available as well so of all those guys I would handicap it right now that Santi Alama seems to be the most likely player that fits that seven foot floor spacing sweet shooting big man archetype that Detroit has seemingly been linked to all across the board here they might be seeing an opportunity to put some pressure on Memphis and maybe there’s an opportunity for them to work with the Grizzlies and figure out a sign trade scenario that makes sense for both sides so Jake unpacked a lot there you guys uh let’s start with Miles Turner now he’s an unrestricted free agent there were reports immediately after I think game three that the Pacers were very serious about bringing him back and going over the cap to resign him uh $30 million per year was the AAV kind of in the ballpark of what they were willing to resign Miles Turner for now I’m not saying that the Pistons couldn’t get to that number i’m not saying that the Pistons couldn’t go out and you know free some cap and trade some guys uh and move some pieces to get Miles Turner in theory they could i just don’t think they will given the season they had and the the the veterans like Tobias uh that make that bigger money that really impacted last season now Nas Reed I I feel like is a fan favorite and I understand it there’s so much to like about Nas Reed now in terms of contract he’s on a player option now player options can get a little tricky um Nas Reed has all the power he has stated that he wants to opt out of that player option and test the free agency market to see what he could possibly get now personally I think Nas Reed is a $100 million type of player you guys i I really do i I think there are going to be a lot of suitors for Nas Reed i think he does so many things well um you know shoot the three-point shot put the ball on the floor pass and you know defend a little bit and I think he would just be such a fun fit next to Jaylen Durn i’d be lying to you guys if I said I wouldn’t love Nas Reed on the Detroit Pistons i would i wanted him during the SEU draft like I I’ve been a very big Nas Reed supporter for quite a long time um if the Pistons can make that work that’d be great um but the final guy and Jake the way he worded it in terms of just like the most he didn’t say most realistic but he said handicapped he thinks that Santi Alamo would make the most sense for the Detroit Pistons in terms of getability um because he’s a restricted free agent and the Pistons could make it a little difficult as Jake mentioned of putting in an offer sheet for Santi let’s just say hypothetically hypothetically the Pistons offer Santi Alama 15 million a year memphis can either match that offer or say “Hey kid good luck.” And they could just say “Go play with the Pistons.” Or Memphis really wants to keep Santi Alama on their roster um and they could do a signin trade if Santi really wants to come and play for the Pistons now I think Memphis they want to keep Santi Alama but I think there’s a price point where they’re comfortable with is $15 million a year too much money for him i’m not entirely sure um Jake mentioned in this podcast but it wasn’t in that clip that um they really want to lock down Jiren Jackson Jr um and I know a lot of you guys are very high on Jiren Jackson Jr Michigan State connection Michigan State connection local kid defensive player of the year stretch five i get all that um but they just got four first for Desmond Bay you guys I don’t even want to imagine what the asking price for a Jiren Jackson Jr is right now it’s probably ridiculous um and the Grizzlies have made it known that they’re trying to build around John Morant and Jiren Jackson Jr and that trade for Desmond Bane was more of a a retool because their GM and vice president didn’t feel like the Grizzlies were close and you know getting for first um kind of helps them out in potential trades um and you’re getting uh you know KCP and Cole Anthony as a consolation prize right so they they want to resign AJ Jackson Jr and extend him because they can this summer i don’t know how much money they’re going to give Jiren Jackson Jr and I think that’s the only thing that could make it difficult um for the Grizzlies and the Pistons can make them sweat a little bit saying like “Hey we’re we we really want Santi we’re we’re going to offer him you know 15 million a year maybe more who knows?” The way that you know contracts just are because they’re extremely inflated with uh you know the salary caps going up and the new TV deals all that stuff i’d really like Santi Dama on the Detroit Pistons i’d like any of these guys on the Detroit Pistons but if you’re telling me like you’re getting Santi Dama this off seasonason I’d be kind of excited because he can shoot the rock he can stretch the floor he can play either center or power forward so he could play next to Jaylen Duran i think he’s a very versatile player but let me know what you guys think of this reporting from Jake Fischer talking about the Detroit Pistons interest in adding a stretch five to the roster and kind of how Jake worded it saying like he’d handicap uh you know Santi being probably the most realistic target for the Pistons this off season but I will talk to you guys down below in the comment section like always hope you guys are staying safe take care and I’ll talk to you guys in the next video peace [Music] ooh ah [Music]

Today, I reacted to the news that Santi Aldama could be a realistic target for the Detroit Pistons, from Jake Fischer.

  1. Personally we need to look to replace Tobias with someone younger who can kind of give us some of the same things but cheaper. Still prefer us trading for a John Collins or Lauri Markennen and then picking up a Bobby Portis in FA. Then we need to try and retain our free agents as much as possible but THJ might be the odd man out.. If I’m making the call Dennis Shroder is the most valuable then Beasley.
