GET UP | Dak Prescott need win NFC, at least NFC East – Louis Riddick on Cowboys successful season
mini camps are underway so next year has begun micah Parsons was at the first day of Cowboys mini camp yesterday despite an ongoing contract dispute he and the team have not had meaningful discussions since March however the All Pro remains hopeful that he and Jerry Jones can strike a deal i’m pretty hopeful i’m still you know hanging tight like I understand it’s up to him and he gives the green light on everything so hopefully uh something’s done you know by next morning you said you’ll be on the field will you practice in Oxnard without a deal uh we’ll see you know it’s hard to tell very interesting little set of circumstances with Mr parsons sheffy what can you tell us he’s going to become the highest paid player in National Football League history the only question is when he said he’d like to have that deal done in the next month there already have been extensive conversations it’s time to involve the agent that Jerry Jones said at the league meetings he had never heard of before david Mgettto who also happens to represent George Pickings by the way but at some point in time Micah Parsons is going to have a deal that tops the one that went to Max Crosby that tops the one that went to Miles Garrett and will give Dallas the highest paid defensive player in NFL history to go along with the highest paid player in NFL history in Dak Prescott i got a question like if we’re the Dallas Cowboys right and we know that TJ Watt is on the precipice of a deal what are we waiting for what are we waiting for get it done now it’s only going to get more expensive i understand that and and they waited on CD Lamb and they waited on Dak and now they seem to be waiting on Micah Parsons and the one push back I get from people when I bring that up because it does to it makes all the sense in the world to me why on earth wouldn’t you have been proactive in getting these deals done you act like the price tag is going to come down right m is there anything to be said for on the other side maybe these guys wanted to wait because they knew they had the opportunity to do it and if you’re Micah Parsons and you’re as young as he is you’re not playing any games between now and September wait until TJ gets a deal wait until Hendrickson gets a deal part of being in a front office is being a great listener and when somebody like Micah Parsons checks the boxes of a homegrown talent who’s productive they never should leave you sit down with him and David Muigetta his agent and say “What is it going to take to get a deal done after year three?” meaning meaning do do it as do it before you have to to make it worth it the day after uh year three expires it’s like what is it going to take what’s important to you and what and you go there you listen and then you execute the market is not going down the macroeconomics of the NFL are only going up the market is only going up and what’s interesting to me is Jerry Jones who’s a Hall of Fame business person who made a billions of dollars taking risks others wouldn’t this is the exact opposite he is being ultraconservative alterative and I think at the end of the day that has hurt them time and time again that that said so all of that said Sheffy just said it and I think we all agree he’s going to get a contract just as Dak was going to get a contract just as CD Lamb was going to get a contract and Lewis when the season begins they’re going to have a new head coach and Brian Shottimer who is about as seasoned a person without head coaching experience as you can possibly be they’re gonna have a pretty dynamic pair of wide receivers if they can sort of solve the puzzle that seems to be George Pickkins they’ve got an offensive line with a bunch of young players many of them coincidentally named Tyler and they’ve got some question marks on defense how good is this football team going to be i think what you what you just laid out it’s the last phase of the buildout that will determine just how good this football team becomes it’s whether or not in November and December January Dallas can resist getting pushed around up front whether they can be this kind of football team that can produce negative runs that can win the time of possession battle that can get the ball back to that offense led by Dak and the three Tylers on the offensive line and those fantastic weapons because if they can if they if they can answer that question on the defensive line that will go a long way to determining whether or not they can truly be in contention to win the East and deal with Philadelphia which you know will be able to win the line of scrimmage and a Washington football team that dramatically improved their line of scrimmage especially when you’re talking about on the offensive side of the ball and the offensive line and a New York Giants team I’ll tell you this look let’s not just discount them because there’s uncertainty concerning their quarterback their defense is going to be hellacious the Giants are going to torture people with their defense this year so getting back to Dallas it’s all about their front seven on defense they will score points they will be able to run the football dak will have a heck of a season brian Shottenheimer has been around a long time and I’m assuming he will get this team rallied around him and he will be competent in all that it’s the defensive front seven that really holds the key for Dallas look they still have some questions on the offensive side of the football as well like let’s think about the running game which has been so vital to Dallas through the years they’re now counting on Javvante Williams who left Denver Jaden Blue who they drafted in this draft and Miles Sanders who got cut in Carolina these are the running backs that supposedly are going to be leading Dallas forward and in a division where they’re going to have to find ways to beat the Eagles and the Commanders in a tough Giants defense you’re going to need a strong running game are those guys capable of getting the job done this season it’s worth pointing out that of all the NFC teams Dallas has the fourth lowest win total so I mean for all of my optimism and that’s you know completely meaningless the people who make these predictions for a living and the people who set these lines and all that kind of stuff at ESPN Bet they only have the Saints the Panthers and the Cowboys winning fewer excuse me the Saints Panthers and Giants winning fewer games yeah and I think again K we’re sort of burying the lead here which is Dak Prescott hasn’t played 17 games in two out of the last three years if he does I think this whole discussion changes which is to say you think they are a playoff team yeah or or much closer to it and it takes some of the pressure off of that running game if you get Dak to answer 17 games okay so we’ve got one quarterback question there we have another one in Pittsburgh aaron Rogers is are going to win the NFC East would you believe it or need to see it come on come on i need to see that i mean seriously i mean let’s be real here and and it’s not because of the offense look I think offensively as long as the three Tylers up front on this offensive line really do come through and they are as good as advertised look I think they’re the passing game will be explosive they’ll put up points it’s the defense man and it’s the rush defense in particular you can’t be worse than the league in terms of rush yards allowed you can’t be worse in the league in yards before contact you can’t you have to improve that they’ve got to be better in the trenches and then finally Mike T if I said Aaron Rodgers is going to take the Steelers back to the playoffs this year do you believe it or need to see it i need to see it you have a Hall of Fame coach you have an aging but you know obviously all-time great quarterback but he’s going to be 42 in December he’s athletically deficient at this point and you have Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson same division it’s going to be hard but intriguing camp all over the country can’t pass and Lewis it starts with the defending champs through the Eagles open camp as the NFL’s team to beat yeah look they’re going to be right there i don’t think they’re necessarily though the team to beat i keep saying that i believe that it is the Kansas City Chiefs who have really done some work this offseason Greeny and gotten better this offensive line is going to be a strength for them this year they have fortified the left side of the offensive line rasheed Rice returns they have like some wide receivers now that can really get down the field they added some defensive line help and as I’ve said before Patrick Mahomes is cranky which is perfect mike T will Dak lead the Cowboys back to the playoffs no greedy but they are going to be better and as you mentioned yesterday they got a lot better they got a great new quarterback in Dak Prescott who hopefully will be healthy they got a point scorer in George Pickkins and most importantly a new head coach Brian Shottenheimimer who has a well-deserved opportunity i just don’t know defensively if they’ve answered enough questions to make the playoffs but they will be better all right speaking of big questions one of them got answered finally in Pittsburgh but here’s another lewis is Aaron Rogers the right fit for the Steelers yeah I believe he is and I’ve said it months ago when we were talking about it on Get Up that I believe that Aaron Rogers needed Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh needed Aaron Rogers aaron needs Mike Tomlin he needs a guy who he just trusts implicitly as a leader and he can just focus on playing football and look the Pittsburgh Steelers needed to level up at the quarterback position i think Aaron Rogers has a point to prove i know some people may not put a whole lot of stock in that but this guy’s a first ballot hall of famer fourtime MVP who quite honestly if he has a shred of you know of you know of of pride in himself he’s going to he’s getting pissed off at the fact that people keep counting him out i think he’s going to have a big year i wish he would have got signed earlier but two here of Get Up in our brand new home sheper your first time in the new studio what do you think it is like going from a with no disrespect a minor league stadium to a brand new ballpark how is that not disrespect that is about disrespectful it’s extraordinarily disrespectful don’t tell the skateboard studio I said that’s We’re upstairs having egg white omelets this morning life is good and we begin in the NFL this hour with mandatory mini camps in full swing so let’s go around the league and play a game called believe it or need to see it because the season really starts now mike T this is the year the Chiefs will be dethroned in the AFC do you believe it or do you need to see it greeny I need to see it this team is better they have a great left tackle you covered the draft josh Simmons if he’s healthy is a great left tackle and the speed of Rasheed Rice pending suspension xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown will make this team much better on offense i think this team is better than they’ve been and they’ve been to three straight Super Bowls lewis Riddick let’s go to Dallas if I said Dak and the cowboy [Music] [Music] [Music] heat [Music] [Applause]
