[Mind the Game] LeBron on NBA’s ring culture: “It’s like saying Peyton Manning can’t be in the same room with Brady or Mahomes because he has only 1 ring. They don’t never discuss that in their sport…A ring is a team accomplishment.”

  1. LeBron is one of the last people talking about the ring culture lmfao 😂

  2. Right, LeBron. I, too, do not acknowledge SB50.

Signed, a (still) sad Panthers fan

  3. Peyton has 2 rings, but 2 rings vs 7 rings is a really huge part of why he can’t be in the same room as Brady.

  4. Basketball is the most star-oriented sport in the world, though. A single player can completely change a team upside down, to a degree not available in other sports.

Secondly, rich from Lebron, considering his entire career has been about winning rings and making all the possible moves to make it happen.

Finally it also happens in other sports, you’ve always needed hardware to prove youre the best, even if it is a team game. Messi wouldn’t be considered the greatest ever if he never won a trophy in his career. Winning is the whole point.

  5. Good point, team versus individual player. LeBron came close, but didn’t mention the front office. You can’t have a great team without the front office being superior to others it competes against for the same players.

So when Shaq waves his rings around he never discusses how fortunate he was to have had an excellent team built around him.

And to extend it further you need a great owner as well. Re Nash, no one with their head on straight would call Robert Sarver a great owner

  6. I’m a Jets fan but can easily say I don’t think anyone is in the same room with Brady. Montana is the closest, I never saw him play so can’t really assess him.

Mahomes needs like another decade of dominance and multiple rings before he gets in the Brady legacy conversation. Patrick is likely more talented, but legacy is a ways to go.

  7. P Manning has 2…

And they were killing him during his prime before he won his first one

  8. This is how I feel with the KG and Duncan convo. Maybe even the Giannis convo in the future. Situations matter 100% and KG in his wolves tenure was just as good as Duncan but had probably the worst supporting cast. His on/off numbers were insane. Playmaking, scoring, and especially defense you can’t argue KG was better.

  9. Wasn’t Payton slinging it during the regular season for ring 2 but then he fell off a cliff towards the end of the season with “dead arm?” He still should get credit for his regular season performance.

  10. You can’t say that in then leave Cleveland to create a super team in Miami. You say a ring is a team accomplishment . But you also say after you won your 3rd that made you the “Greatest Player of All Time” You can’t have it both ways. You know rings matter . That’s why Bill Russel is considered greater than Wilt. Why Magic is considered greater than Bird.

  11. He’s right, a ring is an accomplishment… unless we’re talking Michigans national championship ring they cheated to get. They didn’t deserve that

  12. Peyton manning isn’t even discussed in the same breath as Brady.

Here is LeBron, trying to change the narrative and control it once again.

You will never be, nor you will ever catch Jordan. I don’t care how many podcasts you have.

  13. Isn’t the answer obvious? A star player in the NBA actually affects wins and losses more than a star player in any other sport – even the QB, which the NFL revolves around.

  14. Yes LeBron, winning is paramount in sports, if you don’t like it, just retire and stfu

  15. Yeah but in football there’s 21 other guys you have to depend on to get the job done while in basketball there’s only like 6 or 7. A single nba player makes so much more impact than any football, baseball, hockey, or soccer player can, and thus they get way more scrutiny when they lose. Two seasons ago Jalen hurts and the eagles offense played an incredible game but since their defense came up short he lost and he couldn’t do anything about it. NBA players however play both offense and defense, so when JJ Barea torches the Miami Heat big three there’s no one else to blame but LeBron and d wade

  16. The more LeBron does all these garbage talk pieces the more his stock will drop 🤷🏼‍♂️

  17. It is a team accomplishment, but since there are only 5 players on the court at one time, one superstar player can influence the game more than they would be able to in other sports.

  18. Does he really think people didn’t dog Peyton Manning for not having a ring for years?

  19. This is not rocket science.

In the NFL there are 22 players from a team playing offense, defense, (doesn’t count special teams). When throwing a pass, the QB still relies on the WR to make the catch, and run. That doesn’t even count when he hands it off and all the blocking necessary.

In the NBA, 5 players from a team are playing offense and defense. An individual player can take over a game on both sides of the ball, and that individual players skill, does not ultimately rely on another individual to score, but their own personal skill to shoot a ball into a stationary hoop.

  20. It’s discussed so much because then analysts don’t have to watch the games and can play solitaire on their tablets instead

  21. Greatest vs. best is a different conversation. Peyton is one of the best QBs ever, maybe the best. Brady is clearly the greatest. Greatest has to do with legacy, best has to do with pure skill.

  22. Rings are a team accomplishment. It’s like 5th on the list of importance when comparing individual players.

  23. It’s because Jordan has 6. So 6 has become a benchmark. That’s the reason. Whatever Jordan’s accomplishments are become the benchmark. Jordan fans are so annoying in basketball they have ruined player rankings.

  24. To be fair Rodgers gets shit on all the time for just having one ring. I hate the dude but the criticism for his HoF career is a little nutty. Personality aside

  25. Manning has two, with two different Teams and at two different stages of his career. I. A much harder format to win in…..

  26. I feel like those things, are in fact heavily discussed. A better point to make would be Big Ben having 2 rings to Marino’s 0, because nobody thinks Ben was better than Marino. You need some luck/fortune to win a chip and some legends truly were very unlucky and that’s why understanding the context matters instead of basing greatness off of the ring count. Rings mean a lot but not everything. You could make an insanely good, hall of fame team out of NFL players who never won a ring.
