Draft talks INTENSIFYING… – Sharks LINKED to SURPRISING move

draft talks are intensifying as the San Jose Sharks have been linked to a surprise pick in this year’s draft drafting a two-way center over favorite Michael Misa we’re going to break down both of these guys games make some comparisons and then make an educated guess on who the Sharks are going to pick at this year’s draft so you’re not going to want to miss everything coming up on this episode of Sharks Digest but before we dive into that we just want to say 66% of you guys aren’t subscribed to the channel so if you want to stay up on the latest Sharks news heading into a busy offseason make sure down below and hit that subscribe button but we got a big uh big article to get into today from the Athletics saying that the Sharks could pick Caleb Denuay from the QMJHL over favorite Michael Misa as we just take a look at this report here and I’ll make it a little bit bigger for you guys uh they were talking about how uh Caleb Deoya and Michael Misa had some great interviews with the with the Sharks during the combine and they they say here I think each impressed teams with the way they carried themselves misa and Denoy are two likely candidates for the Sharks uh there are people around the league who make the case for DOY to be the perfect 2C for the Sharks future it’s probably still Misa they say here but don’t rule out Denoy at this point which is very very interesting i was not expecting to hear this today i mean going into the draft it’s always been Schaefer and it’s been Misa that’s been the one and two for the Sharks and now today we’re getting reports from you know some very you know talented insiders like they know what they’re talking about saying that Day could make the jump from the fourth pick is where a lot of mock drafts have him to the second overall selection in this year’s draft which is huge and I’m going to talk about the impact of him and Misa and what their comparisons do look like and but I do want to give you guys some insight on day because he is a great player i mean just looking at this season uh he did have 84 points in 56 games averaging one and a half points per game 30 points in 19 playoff games winning the Gila Flur Trophy the playoff MVP for the QMJHL he also won the Mike Bossi trophy as the top prospect and the uh the Wildcats did win uh the championship as well so he is a champion great season for Denoa uh down there in the QMJ he they also say he they project him to be a two-way middle six center with topline potential if his tools develop and just getting into some initial looks of this guy he is a two-way center he is pure two-way he you know they say is great speed great edgework could use a little bit of of acceleration they say has great uh vision and deceptive passing he has an accurate shot shooting 20% plus this season but it’s not powerful that’s one weakness that a lot of scouts have said about Denoa is that he needs to get some power behind his wrist shots he also say he makes strong decision making and he’s a great for checker he wins puck battles he’s a great 200 foot player which is what this the San Jose Sharks do need and just going on uh this is strengths and areas to develop you see shot power here explosiveness pass efficiency being the ones that he does have to develop here and then just quickly looking at some NHL comparisons uh for this guy you see Bo Horvette nikico Heir is the one that I really do like i do think he plays a lot like Nico Heir he’s just the perfect two-way center he’s a guy who can go out there like he’s not going to go out and get 130 points like Michael Misa did but he can still contribute to this team offensively but also get it done defensively by playing the penley kill by going out there and putting the pressure on opposing teams defenses when they’re trying to make their breakouts this is what Denoier excels at and he still has tons of time i mean he’s still 18 years old he has a lot of time to develop uh you know that shot and I’ve seen a lot of people say maybe he makes some bad passes at time but as time goes on he will develop those skills and it will make him a great player but does it make him a uh better enough to select him than it does Michael Misa that is the question everybody is asking their today because when you look at this Sharks roster obviously Will Smith is looking like he’s going to move to the right wing this next season if they do draft a center and both these guys are centers Misa and uh Denoya but the thing you’re getting with Denoi that you’re not getting from Misa is a guy who’s going to come in he’s going to win faceoffs he’s going to pen kill he’s going to win the board battles he’s going to be a threezone player for your team yes he might not be as flashy offensively we have seen flashes of of that from him in the queue this year but he’s not as well put together offensively as a guy like Mike Misa is so if you’re Mike Grin the Sharks you’re saying “Hey this guy could be our the perfect 2C for the future.” Obviously Mlin is our 1C we don’t have to worry about this guy potentially overtaking that that 1C role from Mlin he is going to be a perfect second line guy and maybe that’s what they see out of him and maybe that’s why they do select him here but if we just look at the comparison chart between Caleb Deno and Michael Misa obviously both kind of similar size dway has an extra inch on the height and Misa’s a little bit more built out but looking at the point totals here look obviously it jumps off the page that Michael Misa has 134 points in 65 games this year where Denoa had just 84 and 56 there’s obviously going to be a big jump offensively for Michael Misa compared to Caleb Denoa but Denoa is more of a put together all-around player than what Michael Misa is if we just look here they say here Misa is more he’s more offensive threat he’s a a elite scorer uh he has a polished two-way game uh but he’s you know he’s he’s ready for NHL immediate impact meaning he could go into this lineup next year no doubt about that whereas Caleb Duoyet maybe needs a little bit more development they say he offers a balanced three zone game he’s smart versatile he’s defensively adept and a strong playmaker so he’s just more of an all-around guy than Michael Mes yes he has a Michael Misa has a good two-way game himself no not knock knocking him at all i think he has a great two-way game but when it comes to Deno he is clearly the better player at this he has he’s more of that Ryan O’Reilly Nikicoish those pure defensive centers the the Alex Barkoff that’s what you’re getting at at at Denoier here but looking at you know the just some more comparables between Misa and Deno you see uh he’s Denway is a dependable two-way center slightly lower lower offensive ceiling but strong multi-roll utility and then you see Misa here high-end upside top draft ceiling strong bet for immediate NHL contribution so when you’re looking at this and I know a lot of you guys are probably thinking the same way I am kind of seems like Misa is the best option out of these two guys here but I think the case for Caleb Deno to go over Michael Misa is definitely there i think if the Sharks say “Hey maybe we don’t need another pure offensive center like we have in Mlin Salabbrini maybe we take a a shot on Caleb Deenway here and we get that two-way guy that we’re going to need eventually and he’s just going to fill that role he might not be the flashiest player like Michael Misa is but he’s going to get his job done and he’s going to do it efficiently and effectively.” And there’s always you know the upside of him being developing these skills developing a stronger shot developing uh better passing and stuff like this there’s always that you know that’s always going to be there for potential upside in this guy if you do take him but you are going to get that more offensive put together uhness if you do get a guy like Michael Misa i think this is a very interesting um thing that came out today saying that they could pot pick him over Misa obviously if you ask me I’m saying you take Michael Misa 100% of the time he’s the guy who is ready to play in the NHL next season he’s the guy that is going to help your team going forward in terms of offense but I think if the Sharks were more coming to the end of their rebuild Denue would be a great player here i think where he’s slotted right now for the Utah Mammoth I think he will be an effective center for that team because that team’s a little bit more put together than the Sharks right now the Sharks have a lot of great prospects and a lot of great potential but they’re not you know they’re not as put together as a team like the Utah Mammoth are you know this that that that they were this season so I I think it’s interesting i definitely think there is a shout for this to happen but I want to hear you guys thoughts down below in the comment section what do you think do you think the Sharks go out and take a shot on him i’d love to hear you guys thoughts down below if you enjoyed this video make sure to subscribe to the channel share it with your friends like the 1. Forget the haters man. Keep doing your thing. Appreciate the Sharks content. We need more!…Interesting bit about Desnoyers. I’m gonna be honest, haven’t really looked into him. I will now. Frondell is a sleeper at #2. He seems like everything MG has been bringing into the fold.

  2. Misa just seems like the safer bet. Why take a risk on some other guy when you don’t have to? Worse thing that happens is that they end up trading Misa in the future and getting another superstar or 1st round pick. I think while we suck we should take advantage of getting the #2 pick while we have it.

  3. I think you are reading WAY TOO much into that sentence. It’s Misa or Schaefer.

The QMJHL is the worst of the CHL leagues. No way they choose him. With Chernyshov playing on the same line as Misa GMMG knows he’s the better prospect.

  4. One of three things happen, and it is almost certainly #1 or #2.
#1 The Islanders took Misa, so the Sharks take Schaefer (this is our preferred, but less likely outcome)
#2 The Islanders took Schaefer, so the Sharks take Misa (Misa is hardly a consolation prize, he is exceptional too)
#3 The Sharks trade the #2 pick for a solid defenseman who is 24 or younger and either signed long term or young enough that he is restricted for many seasons.

Any other outcome is a monumental failure.
