A Huge Golden State Warriors Trade is Coming

jonathan kaminga got a second straight dmp he’s a restricted free agent this summer bill you predicted the team would do something to diminish his value kaminga not getting any burn in the two biggest games of the season would seem to indicate the diminishment of his value how do you just view your future here and your future in the league i don’t know uh i don’t know i still got to figure it out i don’t know today we’re diving into one of the most insane stories in the nba right now now and by the end of this video you’re going to understand why jonathan kaminga’s situation with the golden state warriors might be one of the most underratedly dramatic contract sagas that we’ve seen in recent years we’re talking about a 22-year-old who demanded $35 million annually got denied then publicly lost faith in his head coach and now there’s a shocking twist that nobody saw coming but here’s the craziest part of all this whole mess could help the golden state warriors land another superstar if they don’t handle this situation carefully then they would have officially squandered steph curry’s last remaining window to win a championship before we get to this content make sure you drop like subscribe and turn on our notifications cuz we are going to keep you up to date throughout the entire nba offseason and now that we get all that out of the way cue the intro you remember the fourman i ran in my luca donuch video on prize picks well that risk-free $25 hit now if you didn’t take that opportunity you could still sign up for prize pics using my promo code microphone to get a basis and thank you prize picks for the sponsor mic check 1212 what’s going on everybody let’s start from the very beginning picture this jonathan kamingo walks into contract negotiations with the golden state warriors and pretty much says “i want $35 million a year.” the warriors looked at him and basically said “are you out of your freaking mind?” now to put this into perspective jonathan kaminga was asking for more money than jimmy butler is making he wanted to be paid like scotty barnes who just got a max deal after making an all-star team the problem was jonathan kaminga averaged 16 points a game last season and has never made an all-star team but here’s where it gets interesting the warriors actually offered around $30 million annually according to multiple reports that’s still a massive contract we’re talking about a 5-year deal worth $150 million most 22-year-olds would jump at that offer but not jonathan kaminga the gap between what he wanted and what the warriors offered was about $5 million a year that might not sound like very much but over 5 years that’s $25 million and for a player that is living in california who has to practically give up 50% of his income due to taxes that’s a significant chunk of change meanwhile for the golden state warriors they’re already paying luxury tax penalties so every dollar matters now you might be wondering why the golden state warriors didn’t jump at the opportunity to pay jonathan kaminga last year and it’s because of trauma that they suffered at the hands of a previous player that looked really promising that they paid a huge contract extension to and that player was jordan p the golden state warriors can’t mess this up once again this is steph curry’s last remaining window to win a championship they built a competitive team around him and the one thing that screws teams more than anything else is overpaying players that don’t deserve the money that they’re being paid so the warriors can’t afford jordan pool 2.0 they gave p a massive extension and then had to trade him away when he got punched in the face and the warriors weren’t about to make that mistake again so the october 21st deadline came and went no deal and now kaminga is officially heading towards restricted free agency and that’s when things get really spicy now this situation got really tense last year january 4th 2024 the warriors take on the denver nuggets kaminga was having one of his best games of the season 16 points four rebounds four assists on incredible shooting the warriors had an 18-point lead and then steve kerr benched him for the entire final 18 minutes of the game the warriors blew the lead and lost and their most effective player that night was sitting on the bench watching it happen kaminga would tell reporters that he officially lost faith in coach steve kerr and no longer believes that steve kerr will allow him to reach his full potential i know that sounds very dramatic but i can’t really blame the guy more minutes would help his development more minutes would get him a bigger contract after all the reason why kaminga isn’t getting paid max money is because he has never been an all-star but the drama didn’t stop there kaminga has been dropping hints about his frustration for months in december of 2023 he gave this quote to the athletic that basically broke the internet saying “sometimes i come out the game not knowing what i did and that messes with my head it’s like what do they want me to do i can pass and i can do different stuff i am a differencemaker i know i am.” this is a 22-year-old publicly questioning his hall of fame coach that’s when you know things are broken and kerr’s response he basically said that kaminga needs to accept being a role player steve kerr wanted him to be a shawn marian or aaron gordon type of player rather than being a ball dominant superstar scorer and while i do understand you’re on a team and you should play your role when you have the potential to be something greater obviously you are going to be frustrated now fast forward to may 2025 and steve kerr decided to twist the knife even deeper in an interview that sent shock waves through the nba kerr said this about jk saying “i’ve been asked to win.” and right now he’s not a guy who i can say i’m going to play 38 minutes with the roster that we have stephen jimmy and draymond and put the puzzle together that way and expect to win hold on hold on just give me a second let me break this down for you the coach just publicly said that his 22-year-old player who was the team’s third leading scorer couldn’t handle starter minutes on a championship team that’s careerending type of stuff even draymond green couldn’t stay quiet after that do i agree with that i don’t know that i necessarily agree because you just haven’t seen it and so i’m not of the mindset that something just doesn’t work that you haven’t had the chance to see much of when draymond green is defending you against steve curry you know the situation is spiraling out of control but here’s the crazy part jonathan kaminga is on to something during the playoffs when steph curry got injured it was jk that stepped up absolutely exploding when jimmy butler shrunk he averaged 24 points per game over the final four games including a 30point performance the warriors were literally leaving their best available player on the bench while losing playoff games maybe i’m a little bit out of line but is it just me or could this be a james harden 2.0 type of situation well let’s dive into the numbers really quickly because we need to discuss probably the most important part of this video is jonathan kaminga truly worth $35 million a year the stats are a little complicated on one hand he averaged 16.1 points 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 52.9% shooting that’s solid production his true shooting percentage of 59.5% is actually really good but here’s the problem his player efficiency rating was only 15.7 which is barely above the league average when you compare him to other guys who got max contract extensions the gap is huge scotty barnes averaged 19.9 points and 8.2 rebounds kade cunningham put up 22.7 points and 7 and 1 half assists evan mobley won defensive player of the year and then there’s the injury concerns jonathan kaminga missed 31 straight games this season with an ankle injury for a guy that’s asking for $35 million annually availability is very important basketball experts think his real value is probably around 25 to 28 million per year so the warriors offering him 30 million was actually pretty generous kaminga’s camp was basically asking for a $10 million premium based on potential not proven production and this is the problem here for the golden state warriors you don’t have leverage when your player goes through restricted free agency since the warriors didn’t extend kaminga he becomes a restricted free agent that means that golden state has to offer him a $7.9 million qualifying offer by june 29th to keep their matching rights so on one hand you might be thinking that the warriors could lose jonathan kaminga because some other team could swing in offer jonathan kaminga the money that he wants and force the golden state warriors to match or lose kaminga very similarly to what happened with deandre aton when he agreed to a contract extension with the indiana pacers only to have that extension matched by the phoenix suns which resulted in him not really looking very happy during media day for the phoenix suns the following year what was your initial reaction once the suns match the pace result i was happy it was all done i guess bro was not happy about the fact that he lost out on an additional year of a max contract but here’s the difference between jonathan kaminga’s situation and deandre aton’s situation the salary cap situation around the league actually favors the warriors only the brooklyn nets have significant cap space projected at about 40 to $55 million and that depends on who they end up retaining during the free agency period on top of that recent reports suggest that they’re not even planning to pursue jonathan kaminga aggressively the chicago bulls and miami heat are interested but they need to do signing trade deals the detroit pistons and washington wizards have some cap space but not enough to really scare the warriors but there’s a wrinkle that could complicate everything if the warriors resign kaminga to a big raise there’s something called the baseear compensation rule this means they can only count 50% of his new salary for trade purposes until december of 2025 which means if the warriors pay jonathan kamingo $30 million they can only use 15 million of that for trade matching until december and that severely limits their ability to include him in immediate blockbuster trades this summer now recently nbc sports bay area dropped a bombshell report saying that nba gms expect the warriors to hold on to jonathan kaminga so wait after all of this drama the warriors are going to keep kaminga what happened to being worried about jordan pool 2.0 but the warriors have a plan signing kaminga to a deal in the $25 to $30 million range then potentially trade him in december when that baseear compensation rule expires it’s basically treating him like a $30 million trade asset that they can use later but monty pool of sfgate also said something very interesting saying even the people who are i guess you can say jk backers with the warriors don’t see him as a guy that’s going to lead them to championships so it’s not like he can take steph’s torch into the future nobody’s saying that that’s basically like saying “we’ll pay you $30 million but we don’t think you’re a championship cornerstone.” now here’s where things get really spicy if the warriors do decide to trade jonathan kaminga either this summer or in december the potential deals floating around are absolutely wild so let’s start with the craziest trade scenario that bucks fans are going to hate giannis andako a player that we’ve been speculating might get traded to golden state for quite some time giannis reportedly met with the bucks to discuss his future and if he requests a trade the warriors could be in play espn’s bobby marks outlined how this could work how it would happen is you’re likely trading jimmy butler or draymond green in a trade the warriors can’t afford giannis’ $51.9 million alongside steph curry’s $59.6 million and butler’s 54.1 million so someone’s got to go but here’s where it gets crazy there’s reportedly a potential four team trade scenario where kaminga goes to milwaukee butler goes to the suns and kevin durant goes to the heat that would be the most insane trade in nba history you don’t see trades like this happen very often now obviously i have to include the superstar dream scenario here and i know some bucks fans think that giannisko is just going to stay with the milwaukee bucks despite damen lillard tearing his achilles tendon and the bucks having no assets till 2031 which i personally think is a long shot but hey if you think he’s going to stay in milwaukee then good on you but let’s get to some more realistic trade scenarios there’s been serious talk about a jonathan kamingo for nicola vousvich trade with the chicago bulls in this deal kamingo would be traded via a signing trade for nicole vousvich lonzo ball and a 2029 top five protective first round pick this is perfect because vousvich is one of the best stretch centers in the entire nba the man averaged 18.5 points 10 rebounds and shot 40.2% 2% from three last season he’s exactly the type of scoring big man that they need and his shooting would fit perfectly with their system the warriors have shown a willingness to part with some of their best young assets in order to bring in established veterans just to give steph curry one more opportunity at a championship such as when they traded jordan p for chris paul gave up on james wiseman to bring back gary payeyton and trading andrew wiggins for jimmy butler this trade would be a dream come true for chicago they get a 22-year-old with all-star potential who fits their timeline with kobe white and josh giddy busousvich is 35 and doesn’t match their rebuild and the warriors were desperately trying to get nicole vousvich at the trade deadline now both the bulls and heat are very interested in kaminga so the warriors could potentially trade jonathan kaminga to the miami heat and get tyler hero duncan robinson and a future first round pick in return this would match the salaries perfectly and tyler hero would be an incredible fit with the golden state warriors offense now you might be wondering why on earth would the warriors part with jonathan kaminga and the reality is steph curry’s 37 jimmy butler’s 36 and draymond green is 36 they don’t have the time to develop jonathan kaminga anymore and there have been instances in the past that clearly indicate a clash between the warriors and jonathan kaminga over his development the jimmy butler acquisition changed everything for jonathan kaminga’s role butler and kaminga have been outscored by 30 points in 120 minutes together and that’s not sustainable for a potential championship contender on top of that shams has even reported that the warriors will be extremely aggressive in the marketplace this off season they have up to four first round picks that they can trade plus valuable young players and veteran contracts at the end of the day the stakes for this are so high the jonathan kaminga situation is going to define whether the warriors can squeeze one more championship out of their aging core if they keep him and the fit works they have a 22-year-old who could be the bridge to their next era if they trade him for the right veteran piece they could have the final puzzle piece for another title run but if they mess this up if they let him walk for nothing or trade him for the wrong return or sign him to a huge contract that handicaps their future it could be the beginning of the end for the warriors dynasty and the craziest part is we’re probably going to know our answer within the next month the june 29th deadline is approaching fast and then we’ll see if golden state is really willing to pay $30 million a year for a player that their coach doesn’t think can handle starter minutes so let me know in the comments section down below how do you think this situation’s going to end is jonathan kaminga going to be a warrior next year or is he going to be dawning a new jersey i’d like to hear what you have to say aside from that i don’t know if you guys heard the first trade of the nba offseason went down desmond bade has been traded to the orlando magic for a ridiculous return we have a completely separate video on that and i’m going to leave it in the end screen and meet you guys there i’m your boy mike and i’m dropping our mic until our next upload

  1. Bro usually these nba stars want no part of working hard. Kuminga is dying to play. Let young dude play wtf. Not trading him is petty asf bro ngl

  2. He is. Don't let those stats fool you. Look at the man himself he's a different matter. It's Kerr don't know how to develop his talent

  3. It’s Steve Kerr’s fault why Kuminga didn’t develop on time. They got really lucky and blessed when having Poole, now they got rid of him. There last remaining gem in young guys is Kuminga but going thru this drama because of his coach being stupid🤦🏽‍♂️

  4. JK doesn’t fit in Kerr’s system and the Bulter acquisition only made it more completed. To me the only trade that moves the needle is Durant but I haven’t heard of any attempts on either parts and of course Giannis but is he available right now.

  5. So let me get this straight… KUMINGA drops 24+ in playoff games, carries when Steph's out — and Kerr STILL benches him like he's a G-League rookie? 💀 Warriors might be cooking up another Jordan Poole 2.0 disaster in real time.

  6. Not accepting 150 million over 5 years is crazy. Sure close to 50%will go to taxes, but that is still 74+ million a year. So much better than my 5 day a week and 45k a year job after taxes……. God I wish I was talented in basketball.

  7. Kuminga makes to slow of decisions for the offense. He's ball dominant in a system that requires ball movement. If he wants to pound the rock and go Iso he has to do that with the bench mob. With the starters he has to slash, pass and shoot quick shots. Thats what made Wiggs so good. He could play 1 v 1 with 2nd unit and made quick decisions with the 1st unit.

  8. Kuminga aint jimmy butler, to quote 50 when he was trying to sign Mase to G unit and huy him out from Diddy " Kuminga aint worth 30 million with 30 million in his pockets"😂

  9. I love both trade for the GSW it puts them back in the championship mix with either trade but you think the heat would make that trade ??????

  10. Kuminga isnt worth 35 million a year cause he a young player who needs development and can be a star player in the future the problem is GSW is in a win now mode. Its basically the 2 timeline problem again instead of keeping kuminga they should trade him for veteran players that could help them get a championship now

  11. Honestly not sure anyone can is going to beat the thunder Nikola Topić is gonna play next year and all the draft picks the have 4 first round picks in the next draft and they are already look like a dynasty

  12. The warriors have no shot at Giannis…they have absolutely nothing outside of Curry that Milwaukee would want…and Kuminga for all that?… Pat Riley would immediately hang up the phone

  13. As a Bucks fan I used to hate Golden States hypothetical trade packages for Giannis, but then I realized their draft picks especially 2028 and beyond could be extremely valuable

  14. @TheFlightMike Haven't we all questioned Steve tho. He's Bill Belichick and Steph it Tom Brady. No disrespect to Kerr, but Stephs greatness overshadows Steve's coaching flaws. We all see it when steph isn't in the court.

  15. Havn't watched this vid yet but ima start out by saying your wrong. They were contending and only lost cuz steph got injured. They gotta run it back. I had goldenstate or OKC winning, aint no way goldenstate was gunna lose that series, they won game 1 with steph and then went 0-4 without him. They def 100% gotta run it back.

  16. His plus minus was horrible when the key players were healthy. His numbers work only when 1 or 2 of the key players aren’t playing. So it makes sense. So it just wasn’t a fit. He should’ve taken the $30

  17. i think the warriors are putting too many eggs in the Steph Curry basket and not giving others a chance. Steph is amazing but you gotta have all the pieces around him to make it work. Kuminga has proven he can do that. They need to stop snubbing him.

  18. We keep talking about having to develop jk in the same breath you say he averaged 24 in the playoffs. With a proper coach that team is good. Play steph buddy jimmy jk dray

  19. Steve Kerr doesnt know how to handle young players with potential, he is use to veterans who listens and wants a ring, thats his mentality
