Coulda woulda shoulda to all these type of post. Stupid to speculate when there is so many variables to a hockey org. All we can do is move forward.
Jarmo refused to be promoted out of the role, so Zito could become GM, hence why he left.
He joined the org because he wanted to move from being an agent to management. At the time he left Jarmo was still looking good. This is pure hindsight type of stuff.
So Jarmo was supposed to step down after his team making the playoffs in 4 straight seasons?
