MLB LIVE🔴 Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics – Jun 18, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
so just about set now Today’s starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs But Chris he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound Well I’ll say this Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans in front of the city And you know this guy no different He wants to be more effective here So you look at the numbers they haven’t been great at home I’m sure he wants to turn that around And we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one And now the short stop Jeremy Pñena The change up missing And this one is off and running Good spot there but didn’t get the strike at the knees And doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone on the ground right side Oh can’t pick it up cleanly Safe at first No play We’ll see how they score this Catcher Yiner Diaz Yiner Diaz up next for the Astros First pitch misses That one fouled hard the other way Ruer takes off Pitch inside Throw save That’s a stolen base Pñena stands at second with no outs That one misses and now three and one And a big swing and a miss I think he was sitting on speed though got him looking for the strike out He’s got to be frustrated with that call Well you know that’s got to be very frustrating for this guy He knows the strike zone extremely well And you know what good hitters are not going to compromise He’ll take that punch out but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else So the go-ahead run in scoring position Jose Altuve up to hit here And that misses ball one Altuve officially joined the 2000 hit club in 2023 with every career hit as a Houston Astro Third player in club history with 2,000 hits and 200 home runs Jeff Bagwell Craig Bio those are the two others And that’s some great company Boo Here’s a 1-1 And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91 Strike three and that’s two in a row Vic Keratini at the plate A switch hitter batting right and that one fouled off Rudder at second Two down That one well upstairs One and two to count 02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat Ripped to third but handled and that’ll end the inning One left for Houston and the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show [Applause] Back here with my pal Singi and our pitcher in this game Brandon Walter Chris he’s got the ability to take control of a game when he’s out there Well incredible mound presence and he’s going to attack hitters You look at that strike out per n ratio over 10 coming into this start So he’s a pitcher that wants the ball He’s aggressive He knows that he can get the swing and miss especially when he needs it most We’ll see how effective he is in this one Lawrence Butler leading things off and takes a strike That one’s in there That’s strike two No ball Two strikes That’s inside O2 fast ball way out of the zone I think he’s trying to speed him up Got to stay back Off speed’s probably coming Come on Lawrence Struck him out looking Not sure about that call Pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three Wow that’s a tough call for the hitter but the pitcher will take that all day long Not quite in the strike zone but he found a spot that the umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call So hitters are going to have to make an adjustment but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can Next to hit Jacob Wilson clips the corner Strike one One out Base is empty Line drive Base hit right center field Setting third right fielder Brent Rooker One down Next up for the A’s Brent Rooker [Applause] Swing and a tapper that rolls foul Not close with that one And it’s one and one Good miss with that change up away He needs a ball on the ground for a double play Minimize the potential threat right here on the hitter side Nice job of laying off that pitch The next offering misses Two and one [Music] Fouled off down the right side Man at first one away Swing a highf fly ball Pretty well struck Right field going back Makes the catch up against the wall Time now to check out the A’s lineup One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Brent Rooker and Boo He’s their team leader in home runs So you know the pitchers on that other side man They took a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting You know he’s got a lot of pop and it’s real pop It’s not fluky at all He can absolutely change the outlook of a game very quickly So watch out when he steps in Austin wins in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike Pitch misses and the count is one and one [Music] Two outs Popped dump Pñena nabs it And that is that The A’s strand one We played an inning No score And we’re back Second inning set to go Now it’s going to be Jake Meyers Springs back to work just off the outside edge and it’s one and0 Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire and out there on the mound Maybe trying to get an explanation Can’t say he’s convinced but it looks like he’s accepted it Late swing fouled all [Applause] Now a check swing at the 1-1 Look down to first and that’s a swing according to umpire Mike Filmore The one two that’s to third Sends it across to first and quickly one away in the second Batting six right fielder number 11 Cam Smith up next for the Astros here No score And another ball Kenny Jansen doing home play duties in this one Not a huge strike zone from Jansen So he can’t really be called a pitcher umpire but he does like the bottom part of the strike zone We may see some pitchers steal a few strikes down there especially the ones right below the knees That’s if their catcher can present it properly [Applause] 2-1 [Music] Next offering is in for a strike Fans don’t really understand the familiarity and relationship players and coaches have with umpires I mean you see them a lot Yeah Boo They’re all out there trying to do their best and perform at a high level So when you respect that I think over time you can develop a relationship with them Oh nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there just a low 90s fast ball and I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him but that’s pretty much what happened Very hitable location but he found a way to just get it by him And now here is Cooper Hmel Just missed swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field and makes the play and that’s out number three We’ll go to the bottom of the second No score We head to the bottom of the second and now Max third base Maxy [Applause] first offering and it just misses [Applause] right through there for a strike And that one pulled foul [Applause] Fights that one away Still one and two Stays alive Pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss Third foul ball in a row Swing and a popup Foul territory for the catcher And there’s one away Man he just couldn’t lay off right there Those high fast balls they just look really good because they’re eye level but they’re just about impossible to get the barrel to Nick Curts up next for the A’s That’s down and in One ball No strike They had a foul ball [Music] on the ground to first He takes it on his own and that quickly Two away Batting seventh Second baseman Luis Orias Here’s Luis Oas Lis Ball on there That’s it Next one is off the plate and the countdown now two and nothing Back door breaking ball just missed right there and boy umpire swing and this one’s blasted It’s got a chance Pulls it in on the warning track We’ll move to the third with no score And welcome back to the ballpark All set for the start of the inning Now it’s the second baseman Mauricio Dubon First pitch doesn’t find the zone Dubon in the eighth spot in today’s lineup And he was born in Honduras [Applause] the 1-1 and that’s in for a strike One ball two strike That just misses and the count is even Two and two Really good take especially with two strikes spoils that one and it remains two and two That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was Sharp grounder That’s through for a base hit So a runner aboard to start the inning Well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle We saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win Here’s Luis Gior First pitch just misses Dubone on at first Nobody out Yeah that’s fouled all Pretty good pitch to take a pass at and a one count Just not able to square it up Up the middle Dives and he can’t hang on to first and he beats it Everyone’s safe Well with his speed he doesn’t get a whole lot of those infield hits but he was giving it everything he had right there Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game So the Houston lineup turns over and next to hit for Houston Jeremy Pñena reached on an infield single his first time That one missed [Applause] top of the third no score [Applause] And a count one and two Really going after him here All fast balls to get ahead in the count [Applause] And the sweeper is off the plane Well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat I’m sure there’s sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter And there’s one down Up next for the Astros catcher Yiner Diaz And now it’s going to be Yiner Diaz caught looking his first time up The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot Two on one out Slider misses outside Could be some action here on this next pitch Couple runners on Probably a challenge pitch coming [Music] Ground ball left side Stops it on a slide The feed for one to first n in time Great effort there Just so impressed with the movement on that play Footwork was excellent The arm strength was there and of course the most important part was getting the out Here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve 0 for one He struck out swinging last time With a runner at third this is who they wanted to play He’s so good at getting a run across in these situations Just missed Runners on first and third two away We’re here in the top half of inning number three And that is in for a strike And the count one and one That crosses the plate and now they’re just one strike away from getting out of this mess Off the plate inside Two balls two strikes The count [Applause] foul ball left side He’ll see another Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball Got to think to yourself you want to stay up the middle That way if you’re a little bit early you hit it out of the ballpark If you’re a little late opposite field not And that one finds its way through The run comes across and the Astros score first It’s one- nothing A perfect example right there That plate discipline it pays off The deeper he gets into account the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle First and second two outs Next is switchhitting first baseman Victor Keratini That’s in there That’s strike one Two on two outs Fought off foul First and second two down [Applause] And that’s who the swing It’s a strike out But they pick up one run on the RBI single It’s now a one- nothing ball game Bottom of the inning This is JJ Blade Athletics left fielder JJ Blade And there’s the strike Popped in the air Left field Hmel makes the grab One down Batting ninth Center fielder Denzel Clark Here’s a speed threat Denzel Clark Good defender He’s been inconsistent offensively And the first offering is not close Swing and a ground ball out to short Pñena throw to first in time Now batting designated hitter Lawrence Butler Lawrence Butler now at the plate struck out looking at his first at [Applause] ball one Two out Space is empty And another ball And that’s downstairs And it’s 3 and 0 Jacob Wilson next to bat for the A’s [Music] Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here That’s ball four Tried another fast ball but missed the spot Bell just came apart right there Four pitch walk and guy the play was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of his own Next up for the A’s Jacob Wilson One for one with a single so far Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers But this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out And that one ripped into right and foul ball Yeah his swing is so good It’s in the zone a long time He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits Walter checks over to first and he’s back I think you want to get a one-way lead be very aggressive in the secondary This hitter not a power guy so you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score on a ball in the gap When you look at the elite teams in the game right now there is going to be the slug no question about it But the really good offensive teams combine slug with more contact with less swinging miss And that’s a fair ball They stopped the lead runner at second Now two on with two outs The right fielder Now it’s the right fielder Brent Rooker He’s 0 for one Try to get him to chase on the change up that time One ball No strike [Applause] And there’s a ball [Applause] off the mark there And now three balls and a strike Austin wins in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here That one the other way Full extension Makes the catch A bit of a do or die there He lays out makes the diving catch and he strands a couple of runners New inning getting started And stepping in is the speedy Jake Meyers Now a drag bun third base side Bare hand grab Got him Got him Great play to keep the lead off man off base You know I think bare-handed grabs might be one of the best looking plays in baseball It takes tremendous body control to bend down there pick it up and then get into a position to make a quick accurate throw to first It all happens in the blink of an eye It’s like a magic trick but there’s a lot that goes into it Now Cam Smith his first at bat was a strike out That one finds the zone and that’s strike one Base is empty one away Top half of inning number four fall And that one’s a little bit low And it’s two in one [Music] Good eye in that spot Full count Hit weakly on the ground Muny throw to first in time Now batting left fielder Cooper Hmel Cooper Hmel up next for the Astros And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat Getting that first hit at the big league level and a foul ball Two down That’s off the inside corner One and one The one-1 is fouled off I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball Try to go again with a fast ball Slightly elevated He just having a hard time catching up Popped up first base side Urias on his way over Makes the play and it’s out number three So they make short work of him there On now to the bottom of the fourth It’s the Astros one and the A’s nothing And we’re back John Chami and Chris Singleton with you And leading off the bottom of the fourth Austin wins Come on Close but called a ball And that is ball one Swing and a miss Nice change up Man he really sells the change up with that arm action on the ground to third tosses to first and one gone in the fourth as they get the leadoff man Up next for the A’s third baseman Max So up next Maxy He popped out his first time Ball there The Stros leading by a run We’re here in the bottom of the fourth outside with a breaking ball [Music] This one in the air center field Meyers in position Puts it away for the out And there’s two away Now batting number 16 Next up for the A’s Nick Curts grounded out his first time up Right down to shoot It’s 0 and one and ball one That one down the line Fair ball [Music] Luis Ria up next for the A’s 0 for one with a fly out to center Rolled softly but that goes foul [Music] Go baby Let’s go Well he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit Chopped to first Keratini throws to first in time and he has thrown four shut out innings The A’s strand one still behind by a count of one to nothing And welcome back to the ballpark Here’s Mauricio Dub.io Dub Springs back to work Sharp grounder That’s through for a base hit Man aboard on the leadoff single Everything came together perfectly for him right there He wasn’t able to elevate it but he put a great swing on it Right on time good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield And stepping in for the Astros Luis Guor That one finds the zone That’s strike one [Applause] Dubon aboard here at first with nobody out runner on the goal Swing and a miss Throw to second tag out at second You know something that’s often overlooked in a cod stealing situation is just that catcher’s footwork These guys work so hard on just every aspect receiving the pitch but then also getting into a position to get off a quick throw right there That was perfect execution and it allowed him to get the throw down to second in time fouled off and they’ll do it again One down base is empty Got him looking That’s a strike out Now batting back to the top of the lineup So next up for Houston Jeremy Pñena one for two in the first pitch misses for ball one The shorts stop takes a ball Two down nobody on And we’re in the top of the fifth No that’s a ball He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here Swings and misses Three and two now Full count [Music] Hit on the ground to short Wilson throws across the diamond that ends the frame Nothing doing there for Houston but they’re on top one- nothing We head to the bottom of the fifth now The left fielder JJ Blade JJ Glade First pitch misses One ball no strikes [Applause] and fouled off And that is out of play Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at He wants to get his arms extended He likes the ball away from him a little bit Just not able to square it up [Music] [Applause] And a ball even count [Applause] knocks that one away and will do it again [Applause] That’s down and in Expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball Something in his own because he does not want to allow the lead off wall and swinging a miss He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound but they still get the strike out He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way So credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch Clearly he had him fooled Now here is Denzel Clark And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike Home team down a run Last half of inning number five Comes up empty That’s strike two Another 02 count right here Pitcher just in the driver’s seat He can go anywhere he wants to go right here Foul ball It stays nothing and two the pitch And that one is inside ball one Fouls it off Still one and two Goes down looking Well that’s a pitch that slider from an opposite-handed pitcher that you usually see very well but for some reason he didn’t pick it up and it just kind of got into the strike zone late Gave up on it a little bit early That one pushed foul out of play off to the left and a base hit into right Zoe gets on base and keeps it going Now batting short stop Jacob So digging in Jacob Wilson He’s two for two The emmo for him is contact A guy who’s going to deliver average Not a ton of power He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere Well that’s why it’s a team I mean when you look at a lineup he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate Just missed one That’s a bullet but it goes foul [Music] Two outs outside low Ball two Two balls one strike [Applause] Now snap throw to first Back in safe Really close Here we go line drive Pummel right there to make the grab and that’s the inning Top of the sixth inning At the plate is the Astros catcher Yiner Diaz Diaz 26 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic The A’s bullpen has some movement Number 49 appears to be getting loose Sears a left-hander also throwing ball one 1-1 Next offering is in for a strike just misses with that one [Applause] And that’s outside He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked [Music] 3-2 down swings and misses on the fast up in the zone for the strike out Thought it was a pretty good pitch Top of the strikes over seeing more fast balls in that location Hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger Jose Altuve up next for the Astros Altuve struggling on the road this season Better results at home Altuve always seems to be setting records or reaching milestones Boo In 2023 he became the fastest player to reach 2,000 career hits 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases in MLB history [Music] misses off the plate Going to count one and two Base is empty one away And we’re the top half of the sixth swing and a ball lined out towards center No trouble here Puts it away for the out The first baseman Victor Keratini manager out of the dugout now And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound Jeffrey Springs will depart And a nice effort out of him no doubt New arm coming on We’ll be back for that in a moment Now pitching So a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s JP Sears Definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone makes hitters earn their way on base and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes Two outs space is empty And now the first baseman Victor Keratini bowl for two in this one And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike on the ground out to short gets it to first and the Astros put down in order So they go quietly there Hard in the order 345 coming up It’s the Astros one and the A’s nothing Well we go bottom six and now the right fielder Brent Rooker Well these fans definitely want to get involved in the game All it’s going to take is to get the leadoff man or even a base runner on Try to get him to chase on the change up that time One ball no strikes [Music] [Applause] [Music] Just off the inside edge Doublebarreled action in the bullpen Steven Ochre the left-hander up and throwing Abrau the right-hander also getting loose [Applause] That one drifts inside Austin wins in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike Three balls and a strike [Applause] [Applause] and a swing and a miss Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today Now batting And here’s the catcher Austin wins That one fouled off The Astros up by a run here in the bottom of the sixth Line drive Base hit down the line Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on You know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly Runner on first with one gong Maxy up next for the A’s Swanging a ball drilled center field Brings it in Two away Now batting number 16 So up next Nick Curts You know this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher And what you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head Just missed [Applause] The one fast ball for a strike Just a weak fly ball this time Squeezes it and that will end the inning top of inning number seven And now the center fielder Jake Meyers The pitch inside and that’s ball one 10 Swing and a foul out of play Swing and a miss as he was out front that time up the middle Urias now the throw to first on the run Boots it Boo That’s staying within his game right there I mean this speedster gets the infield single and now he’s on base to possibly do some damage I love seeing what guys like this can do to disrupt the game once they get in a position to do so Stepping in Cam Smith and ball one to the right fielder Way to go baby Let’s go Two Chris With that distraction and a speedy guy at first he’s in a favorable hitter’s count Well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in Let’s go And there’s the automatic Nobody out Runner at first And ball four two aboard Not the start to this inning he was hoping for on the M Now he’s going to have to really dial it up against the bottom part of this lineup to get out of this jam First and second no outs Cooper Hmel up next for the Astros Squares to Bunt but that rolls foul And he’ll one puts a bunt down over to Aras one over to first safe Now batting second base Mauricio Dubon [Applause] So digging in Mauricio Dubon at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot anything but the inning ending double playbook Oh he can’t hang on Runner from third in to score and they lead by two Safe at first as they can’t make the play Well he delivers in a huge spot right there Oh he’s so dialed in I don’t think he even realizes how much pressure exists out there Very easy swing Nice and relaxed This is the type of approach you want to see guys take in this situation Hummel the lead runner at second Dubong at first One gone [Applause] That one back up the middle and it gets through Coming home Here comes the throw Safe at the plate and the run scores all the way from second and they lead by three Well that was an important bat in this game So a great job there stepping up to the challenge He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point Pretty impressive for an 02 count Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the bullpen JP Sears is done It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute Now pitching the pitcher on here number 49 Number 49 And this could be a pretty critical point in this game They’re hoping he’s the guy to keep him within striking distance And next to hit for Houston Jeremy Pñena one for three There’s the strike 95 of that one [Applause] way high Traffic on the bases with two already in to score here in the top half of inning number seven Misses inside and it’s two and one It’s a big opportunity right here But I love the way he’s slowing the game down He’s shrinking his zone making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit Double play ball to second There’s one that not in time at first It’s a fieldielder’s choice Now batting catch Oh that’s great hustle out of the box to get down the line knowing that a double play will end the inning Good job at the finish reaching out for the bag Now they got runners on the corners and still an opportunity to pick up some runs Yer Diaz up next for the Astros 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out that misses the zone and it’s one and0 Runners at the corners with two outs [Applause] Next offering is fouled back Two on two outs to the right side and that’s just fouled [Applause] There’s a swing and a drive and it’s into the gap One run is in Headed for the plate He’ll score Two runs are in Still able to come through behind in the count right there Off the bat it was headed for the gap all the way And as a hitter you love seeing those as you take your first couple of steps out of the box You know you got some real estate to run on And such a good feeling Nice liner into the gap right there So runner at second two down Jose Altuve up next for the Astros Fast for a strike [Applause] [Applause] Just missed One ball one strike Well struck right field That’s back and that ball is gone And they tack on to their lead It’s 7 nothing Jos Altuve packs a lot of power in his swing The ball just explodes off his bat That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark You want to bottle that type of approach Manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen Number 49 done for the night We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound Now pitching So a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s Shawn Nukem This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters [Applause] Two outs nobody on Victor Keratini will hit next That catches the zone for a strike 0 and one [Applause] Swings through that one for strike two finds himself in a tough situation early Just got to try to simplify it Take a knock the other way if you can That one misses and the count is one and two Gets a piece and stays alive [Applause] Two down Doon hit pretty well in the air out to center He’s there He’s got it And that’ll do it They bring nine to the plate and six come around to score Seventh inning stretch time It’s the Astros seven and the A’s nothing We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh Caleb Or And he’s had a really hard time throwing strikes so far this season His walk rate is up there among the worst in the league for relievers Here’s the second base Luis Second baseman Luis Urias First off and it just misses You know these A’s need to bring up the quality of their bats and specifically their swings They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority but it’s just not happening for him so far Zero extra base hits in the game So it’s been tough for him to get anything going in the air left field Pummel makes the grab and a quick out number one Good pitch He just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn’t able to stay closed JJ up next for the A’s Sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through But it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have runners in scoring position because they put themselves there He swings and fouls one off 0 and two now Bows it back with two strikes One down Base is empty And they’ll do it again [Music] Ow And two now Highf fly ball pretty well struck out towards right center That’s back there And that one is off the wall Not stopping He’s going for three The relay the tag and he’s out trying for three Here’s the center fielder Denzel Clark Ground ball up the middle That’s a base hit and that keeps the inning alive Up next for the Lawrence Butler Up next for the A hitter Lawrence Butler That one finds the zone 0 and one Clark off of first with two away Hit hard but foul off to the left Just misses the mark outside the zone Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball but for whatever reasons he let it go by He’s still in the at bat I don’t think he’ll let the next one go This one high in the air to left center Meyers turns to the right on the move and that is that the A’s strand one not going their way It’s 7 nothing Well this game isn’t very close Singy let’s see if we got any messages from those tuning in today I know we got some good stuff in there Sing you grew up in the Bay Area Did you have a favorite player as a kid yeah I love the A’s lineup I mean guys like Ricky Henderson Dave Kingman Terry Steinback Um I mean you just go on and on Tony Armis uh just some tremendous rosters back then And I loved as a kid getting on the BART train the Bay Area Rapid Transit pulling up right there to the stadium and then going in and watching the game You also had the pleasure of going over and hitting and taking batting practice at a big leaguer’s house Who was that yeah Willie McGee One of the greatest of all time in my opinion Not in your neighborhood Yeah His folks live right down the street from me And that’s where his batting cage was I used to look out of my backyard down the hill and just dream of one day maybe being able to go over and hit with them That dream became a reality when I was drafted by the San Francisco Giants Digging in Cam Smith to third Zips it across He’s out Two up two down here in the top of the eighth Now batting left fielder Cooper Hmel Two down Base is empty And here is Cooper Hmel 0 for three in this one And first offering is fouled off [Music] There’s the swing and a miss Two outs and a chance to put up a zero on the scoreboard here And that’s not something that’s come easy for this staff in this one Center field Clark makes the catch and that’ll do it And we’re back There’s the short stop at the play Jacob Wilson He’s kind of an outlier especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power Ford back to work That one’s in there And that is strike one Swinging a drive deep right field And that is a foul ball [Applause] swings and misses Blew the express right by his bat for strike three Now that is next up for the A’s Brent Rooker Brent Rooker off the plate inside One and0 Boo He never moved cuz he never had time to With that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away One down Base is empty Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike Swing and a line drive Ripped out into right center That’s a base hit So they get a man aboard with a one out single Just so sound in his mechanics Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field Here’s the catcher to hit Austin wins to short Could be two quickly to second for one Double play and that’ll do it for the inning This one pretty well decided at this point through eight full It’s the Astros 7 and the A’s nothing and welcome back to the ballpark All set to start the ninth in this one Now it’s the second baseman Mauricio Dubon [Applause] and takes low for ball one Meanwhile activity in the bullpen Mitch Spence up and loosening in the pen Ferguson getting loose as well [Applause] That one finds the zone and the count one and one Just too high Check swing called strike and that is strike two [Applause] on the ground right side dives but it kicks off his glove No throw and the defense comes away with nothing Now batting third baseman Luis Gior man at first Here’s the third baseman Luis Gior He’s been a great free agent sign and a first pitch fast is in for a strike Nukem 31 years old a former first round pick back in 2014 Dubong gets his lead at first Nobody out [Applause] Fast ball for a strike and a count is 0 and2 Well he didn’t like those first two pitches Now in an 02 hole he’s going to have to battle Hope he gets a mistake [Applause] Fights it off You’ll see another And a good eye there And that’s awfully close I don’t know how you take that He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now In the air left field down the line and it stays fair Coming home now A relay to the plate He’s safe as he gets his hand in It’s 8 nothing Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI Just a bloop hit behind third right there And that’s a really tough play for a third baseman or shortstop to get to And the same for the left fielder So he just found a perfect place to drop that one in right there And the batter will be the shortstop Jeremy Pñena There’s the strike Plenty of offense in this one Singy I guess you’d say kind of what we expected though Well this was a game looking at the pitching matchup where you expected offense to score and not as lopsided as this Um but yeah you definitely expected to see some offense coming up [Applause] and downstairs He missed the zone but I don’t think he missed his spot That was a good pitch with two strikes That’s too low And it’s two and two He’s trying to stay down in the zone but the hitter just will not chase Now back in a two- two count He’s going to have to go to something else to get him out And now two and two Fly ball down the line and no one can get to it It’s a foul ball [Applause] And a swing and a miss Speed him with a fast ball Good pitch right there I mean he’s attacking a location that this guy at the plate tends to have trouble with And there’s just so much information in this day and age Sometimes too much information but the guys that can take that information process it and then go out there boo and execute the pitch go right after that hitter and get the result that they were anticipating That’s really good pitching right there And it’s a good job of the pitcher and the catcher working together Next offering is in for a strike [Applause] and delivers outside One out a runner at second here in the top of the ninth [Music] That one hit to right Rooker should have this one and makes the grab Runner tags it second and he’s up to third safely with two gone Now here’s the Astros designated hitter Jose Alu He’s already homerred here in this one And there’s a fly ball deep right field And it’s a one hopper off the wall should be extra bases and in it second with an RBI double and his hot hitting continues They kept him in the yard that time but all he’s doing now is passing the baton and everything seems to get started around this guy in scoring position with two away So here’s the Astros cleanup hitter Victor Keratini and a popup right side foul territory makes the catch and that is that two runs three hits no errors and one left Five six and seven will lead things off in the bottom of the ninth It’s the Astros nine and the A’s nothing All set for the bottom of the ninth Now the third base Max Max [Applause] Swing and a miss Boo That’s Cheddar baby One strike [Applause] Late on that fast ball 02 [Applause] foul ball still 0 and two [Applause] [Applause] Yeah there’s a ball the ball outside Two and two [Applause] Keeps the bat going with a foul ball [Applause] That one just missing inside Three balls two strikes [Applause] Spoils a two strike pitch And he’ll see another [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the kick the 3-2 Battling here as he fouls it away [Applause] Foul We’ll see another payoff pitch [Applause] Swing and a ball lifted left field makes the catch for the out Just pulled off of it a little bit right there That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed If he does that he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left [Applause] And first off is fouled off [Applause] The A’s with a lot of ground to make up here The last half of inning number nine And he couldn’t hold back He’s rung up on strikes At the plate Luis 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out to go baby Let’s go [Applause] Swinging a foul back That’s out of play [Applause] Right through there for a strike One strike away And that’s outside Foul ball Still a one and two count Two down nobody on We’re in the last half of the ninth inning That one missed [Applause] And a rope into center field Base hit Joey gets on base and keeps it going right there He does a great job of staying in the big part of the field Man there are a lot of hits there So up next JJ Blade [Applause] That one’s upstairs Ball one One ball No strike [Applause] And that one fouled off [Applause] And it’s foul away [Applause] That one is absolutely belted way back there And it’s out of here He nails one out to right It’s 92 [Applause] They thought he could blow a high fast ball by him but he was ready for it Look at how quickly he jumped on that pitch [Applause] Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change Caleb Ort gives way and as he heads for the dugout we’ll take a quick break New arm on the mound when we get back [Applause] Hunter Brown on the pitch here Compared to some days this is a pretty low leverage appearance for him so he should be fairly free and easy out there Still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone All right And now the center fielder Denzel Clark And first offering is fouled off [Applause] That one in there across the letters Sends it to center and that’s going to do it He pulls it down Ball game and the Astros take this one in a blowout Walter with his first major league win Yeah nicely done And I’m sure he’ll feel very good about that and get the ball for his trophy case as he should A start he won’t ever forget This one ends the final 92 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew I’m John Shi saying so long
