Pistons, Grizzlies & NBA Finals: Key Takeaways & Game 5 Bets! Part 2

hey we are back with part two of the fantasy NBA today it is Rick Camel it is Hall of Famer Steve Alexander uh pardon the interruption it’s a great show but I I literally mean it right there i was getting nauseous felt like I was going to throw up and needed a quick I needed a quick Kane’s chicken finger Doc and that just calmed everything down little work it all out for you just just one Can’s chicken finger when we’re done here I’ll have several more but I needed to get one what is a cane what’s Canes what’s Canes so you know Zachby’s and you know Chick-fil-A right and like it’s a chain like that and they have phenomenal chicken wing uh uh uh chicken fingers phenomenal so I love them but uh guys if you’re watching live on YouTube or after the fact on YouTube there is a link to part one of uh of this uh sojourn of a show part one part two um in the description okay a link to part one is in the description um and if you’re watching on the podcast feed no worries at all uh one will marry with two and it’ll be one whole show so Doc let’s get back in uh we left off with the Memphis Grizzlies they’re outlook okay offseason outlook um Santel Dom is a restricted free agent marvin Bagley the third i didn’t even know he was in the league uh Luke Canard Lamar Stevens uh Yuki uh Kawamura he’s restricted cam Spencer who I like is restricted uh and the other guys are unrestricted so there’s going to be some movement there baggley third probably ain’t coming back uh Luke Canard probably isn’t coming back um they have the 16th pick in the draft so that’s kind of not sexy for free agency so let me add let’s get into Jarant a little bit Doc um I wrote down seven teams who could be possibly theoretically in on Jarant so maybe write these down and you tell me like where you’d be geeked about Jaw or if you’d be geeked about Jaw anywhere brooklyn Washington Utah Portland um all kinds of talk about trading Anthony Simons right so there could be an opening there phoenix they don’t have a point guard uh Sacramento there’s all the reporting that they want to go out and get uh a big-time point guard i mean you’ve got so much like anyway I wrote down Sack because that report and then New Orleans i mean who the hell knows what New Orleans is going to do and yes you have Deontay Murray you have C.J mccollum are we sure these guys are going to be on the team this year so I wrote them down just because we don’t know what the hell’s going on with the team so of the seven teams I just gave you where would you want to see Jaw well Washington would be interesting given uh the Gilbert Arena’s gun history uh in Washington um man add J to that mix and the fact they used to be called the Bullets but they’re not called the Bullets anymore which is kind of annoying um I actually Phoenix uh Phoenix looks to me like the best place he could go they they need a point guard uh Josh is just that i would hate to see him go to Utah um and mess up Kier and and uh the other kid that is there um Keonte George keonte George uh Brooklyn might be a good place for Jot to go like you said in part one of this illustrious show uh it would give Brooklyn fans something to talk about because what a boring mismatched mess Brooklyn is right now so um I like Brooklyn uh I’d love to see him in Phoenix i think Phoenix makes the most sense to me out of all those if I’m Brooklyn I’m trading for Jarant and I’m going and I’m getting Jonathan Kaminga and I’m sexing up my team because at that point you have Jarant you have Cam Thomas you have uh Jonathan Kaminga you have Cam Johnson and you have Nick Claxton and now you’re a playing tournament team in the Eastern Conference um you know the job is to win a championship but they’re so far away from that right now i think that if I were a Nets fan you told me we got John Morant and Kaminga were trying to go to the playin tournament maybe beyond i’d be excited about that all right so just wanted to get a little jock conversation here at the beginning of our summer going back to the trade of Desmond Bane and and maybe more trades to come for Memphis players to watch doc I’ll start us off here john Morant and Jiren Jackson Jr will they be traded will they still be on the team i think Jiren Jackson Jr is going to have uh pretty incredible statistics if he stays on this team and they don’t add uh you know another 21 five and five guy like uh Desmond Bane scottie Pippen Jr just shot up on the sleeper board edy just shot up on the sleeper board so who who are you watching uh heading into next year for Memphis i think Jaylen Wells um kind of creeps up on the sleeper board as well uh I’m I’m most excited about Scotty Pippen um look let’s let’s free Pippen and let him play uh feel like every time he got an opportunity last year this past season he was he was awesome um and I I think that there’s still a lot left to unpack with him like we don’t know how good he can be i don’t really even know that much about him but uh I I’m excited about Scotty Pippen i’m excited uh you know Jiren Jackson Jr for getting traded to another team could be gamechanging for that team and and this could be uh a championship move for somebody if they can get Jiren Jackson Jr so uh I don’t know is Memphis blowing the whole thing up or Jaw and Jiren Jackson going to get traded it sounds like they certainly could um but Jaylen Wells I think uh is is a sleeper for next year i think Scotty Pippen is zach Edi should be better like we talked about his minutes um in the previous episode and uh you know he’s got to get up to about 27 28 minutes a game and then his numbers are going to pop so there there’s are things to be excited about in Memphis but there’s also just uh a boatload of question marks it’s going to be a great offseason one of the best off seasons in league history according to Sham Sherania and many others in terms of activity and movement and trades we just got one i didn’t think Memphis was going to take a wrecking ball to their team and trade Desmond Bane for basically draft picks i didn’t see that coming there’s going to be all kinds of surprises to come let’s talk about the Detroit Pistons Doc detroit basketball who is the MVP for Detroit basketball this year okay let me get to that screen it’s your boy it’s your boy Cade Cunningham definitely your guy um I I was not on the Cade bandwagon uh I have never been but I’m getting there now like I I think I’ll be kind of mad if I don’t have some Kade on my team next year um 70 games 35 minutes a game both of those things right there the fact he made it through the season in one piece and played that many minutes tells me that I think he’s good to go 26 points six boards nine dimes a steal a block uh some threes and turnovers are high man 4.4 turnovers but guess what rick don’t care about turnovers could not care less could you um yeah talk about Cade i’m sure that’s your MVP i would hope anyway not even a little bit do I care about turnovers not even a little unsy little bit um 4.4 is kind of high but that was his first year of being like the mega guy uh and and that that number will drop to me um I love the P 266 and N one of the best in the league uh one block one steal two threes he wasn’t quite at 111 but it was like 1.2.8 8 kind of thing but it basically rounds to about a 1-1 in the defensive stats two threes per game um the percentages were good 47 35 84 not that I care uh but for your content out there some of you do care a lot of you do care um and I’ll beat you uh in championships with with my method at least that’s the theory um and that’s why we play these fantasy games doc I have a question for you is Kate Cunningham a first round pick next season in 12 team leagues maybe are you looking at him as a first round pick maybe but I don’t I don’t think so um I mean if you wanted to take him at the end of round one and then you get an early pick in round two uh I could see that working out you know what looking at my top 50 rankings Rick I’ve got Cade at nine i just surprised myself right there you know how you know how you let yourself down with the medical emergency during the last show i just surprised myself i had no idea that I had Kate at 9 and and that’s a that’s a living breathing document it’s not set in stone it’s not set in stone but I mean yeah that tells us here’s the thing Rick would you rather have Cade or Giannis i have you have you read the rundown dude cuz I I hit Doc with a lot of qu We like to keep it live and fresh i literally have the next question cade or Anthony Davis cade or Giannis so let’s get into it no you don’t i don’t have that information so that’s literally the next question is is cuz I And the reason I put it I know you’re not on Anthony Davis i know you’re not a big Giannis guy you say you never draft Giannis so I wanted to pose it i don’t really like that word but people use it uh position um do you use Pose It i don’t p O Si T i can’t even believe I I use that um do you position i forget what the hell I dude rick so Giannis or Cade let’s start with my my question um I I’ve got Giannis at 10 and Kade at nine and And I don’t draft Giannis so I I would I would take Cade i’ve got Anthony Davis at seven i’ve got Kade at nine but I’m not really an Anthony Davis guy like do at the moment of truth you may go Kade over Davis is what you’re saying uh or or I may be of the belief that Davis is in Dallas and he’s got a lot to prove this year and and he’s gota he’s got to shut the haters up and prove that he was worthy of a Luca trade um so I I do kind of think AD could have a big day but I I think that’s the point is um at the end of round one when you’re looking at Giannis and Anthony Davis you’re also looking at Kate Cunningham that’s exactly the point um I would take Davis and Giannis above Cade because of the position scarcity relative to their stat sets um and I know Giannis isn’t a big fantasy gold guy he’s the second best P guy in the league behind Joic uh and obviously good defensive stats um I don’t care about free throw percentage it doesn’t even matter to me at all and I’m gonna have so many three ballers um going that I’m okay with Giannis uh you know he’d be the only guy on my team not hitting three balls but I I can still win threes um with you so I would take Giannis and I would take Davis over Kade but to answer my qu I do view Cade as a first round pick I have him at 12 right now Doc in my uh in my top 50 um and and like Doc it’s it’s a living breathing document we haven’t even had free agency or the draft right there will be changes in our rankings based on movement heck the Desmond Bane thing uh creates ranking changes and there will be many many others but we just wanted to get a little something on the on the books uh to help our conversation here uh we both have Kate Cunningham as a first round pick back half uh but but a first round pick all right players who surprised you for the Pistons last year Doc are uh Malik Beasley man he was he was he got drafted or he got picked up off waiverss by fantasy owners simply looking for some three-pointers right and you got tons of that but you also got other stuff man he shot um he shot 42% from three-point land uh best on the pist on the Pistons easily and then uh Beasley averaged 16 points uh two and a half boards two assists a steel it was uh it was he was a nice little waiverwire pickup perhaps one of the waiverwire pickups of the year and um Rick I think you and I were in on him for six man of the year because he was really good so uh Malik Beasley was surprising uh Oair Thompson surprised me i was worried about him playing enough games and getting enough minutes but man once they finally let him play he was kind of fun um we’re starting to see see what all the hype is about right um those were were the two most surprising players for me all right uh I agree with you on Beasley i thought he should have been the sixman of the year um you know certainly Pton Pritchard had a a very legitimate sixman of the year it It was like Jokic and SGA last year not this year but the year when I thought SGA should have won MVP but Joic did it was a 50-50 deal i I like I’m not butt hurt that Beasley didn’t win six man um he he would have gotten my vote uh 82 games played guys uh Doc went through the numbers i mean 3.9 threes he was up there with Stephen Ant-Man okay and it was Malik Beasley like in terms of three balls per game he had an elite season he’s a free agent we’ll talk about that status in a minute dennis Shruder surprised me a little bit Doc you remember he was in Golden State you were kind of high he ain’t doing [ __ ] in Golden State bro not a dang thing um and then so going to Detroit I was like what are we getting from Shruder here 11 points five assists 28 games i mean it’s not great um but I thought he was solid and I thought Dennis Shruder who enters free agency now did a pretty good job of uh of leaving a good taste in people’s mouths like we do at sports ethos.com all of our brilliant minds including Dr a available at sports ethos.com and subscribe the prices are as low as they will ever be our grandfather programs are going to keep your price incredibly cheap as we keep adding more and more value to the platform disappointing players for the Pistons this year Doc were Oh Jaden Ivy’s injury was a disappointment for sure he only played 30 games uh his injury is part of the reason Malik Beasley was able to blow up um my guy Tobias Harris I’m not sure if I was surprised or disappointed or happy with with what he did but if you love 14 points and six boards that’s your boy right there um I I’m just not a Tobias Harris guy uh the fact he played pretty well though for a Pistons team that was very surprising really one of the most surprising teams in the East if not the whole league uh they went from almost no wins the previous year to to having a bunch of wins and and and getting into the the tournament like way to go Detroit that was that was pretty cool um Marcus Sasser disappointing i I like him and he It’s just not going to happen as long as he’s in Detroit i don’t think no it’s not Doc i was disappointed with uh remember I I carried Dude I carried two guy I carried two Trace Jackson Davis and Marcus Sasser all year in 30 deep last year and of course waiting on I mean TJD was like heartbreaking um I was waiting on an injury for Sasser he was a super super late pick and uh injuries came and Jay Knight went down and nothing from Marcus Sasser uh so uh I always think of Mackie Sasser the old catcher uh whenever Marcus Sasser’s name comes up um disappointing players for me tim Macke Sasser right remember yeah uh he was with the Mets I believe um I think he was the backup to Gary Carter when they won in 86 andre is probably all over that although it’s baseball andre Andre anyway uh Tim Hardway Jr disappointed me Doc 11 points a game 2.23 threes he was Dude he’s had years with 17 points a game 19 points a game i mean 11 points and 2.2 threes that’s a streamer that’s the waiver wire malik Beasley got him malle Beasley got him um Osar Thompson you had him in the surprises i have him in the disappointments doc 22 and a half minutes a game for the season right i know the playing time went up and uh he’s probably going to be a 30-minute guy next year but that was uh of course he has the goodies sasser was traded to the New York Mets with uh with pitcher Tim Drummond for former Mets prospect uh Randy Milligan i remember him uh the Mets uh he was used a backup to Gary Carter for two seasons um in the 1990 season so he wasn’t on the 86 team but he was the backup to Gary Carter i love me some Gary Carter remember the perm that Gary Carter had yeah my brother’s name is Gary so Gary Carter was a big player for us growing up i don’t know why that matters but because because we’re young and dumb and a firstname thing is all it takes sometimes right there’s also a dude on the Cleveland Indians named Gary Alexander and we we get his baseball card and we’re like “Look bro you got a you got your own card.” It was always exciting wasn’t there Stephen Alexander that was a tight tight end for the Chiefs back in the day or something i thought you were talking uh Yeah there was a Steven Alexander in the NFL yeah Denver I think yeah um but so there you go mackie Sasser not Marcus Sasser uh by the way love me some Gary Carter uh may he rest in peace but the um the uh the 22 and a half minutes for us are very disappointing for me uh all right so let’s move on to the offseason outlook here malik Beasley free agent tim Hardaway free agent dennis Shruder free agent paul Reed Ball paul Reed is a free agent lindy Waters and Dannis Jenkins literally no idea who that guy is uh are on two-way contract um the qu and they have no first round pick i I think it’s going to be a pretty quiet off seasonason for Detroit Doc i think they’re going to get Ivy healthy and just continue the the organic OKC what we want Houston to do build right just you don’t need to change a thing man you’re dead just grow this thing um uh but do you think Malik Beasley will be back Doc do you have a do you have a dollar amount in your brain oh I don’t I don’t do dollar amounts man i’m a fantasy guy uh I don’t know if Beasley’s going to be back or not man umh it’s it’s so hard to tell with with these free agents um I I think Detroit would like to to bring him back i I think it was a big part of what they did in a very successful year i think they’d like to bring him back i just don’t I don’t know if they’ll be able to um does that is that an answer does that count yes yes and so I I agree with you i We don’t know what if somebody comes to Malle Beasley with three years and $45 million i’m not sure it’ll go that high i I do mess around with the money of the league i love the money of the league uh Malik Beasley is going to get around um Doc 3 years and 24 mil 3 years 30 mil 3 years 33 mil he’s going to be in the 8 to11 million a year range and for an elite three-point shooter um and he’s swaggy as hell i just I like what he brings to the wood dude um I think Detroit would be crazy to let him go crazy Doc detroit is out of wreckage they They were a top six team you can’t just act like “Oh we can get anybody to do what Malik Beasley just did.” He made history bro he had a historic season he Some thought he was the six-man winner okay that you can’t just go out and get another guy off waiverss um that that you think is going to duplicate 16 three 16 points and four threes a game that’s a special player and it fits and you were able to mask his defensive uh deficiencies guess what jayen Ivy’s going to come back and take a starting spot and guess what that means Malik Beasley is going to be coming off the bench again where he’s happy where he’s comfortable and not bickering and complaining like Tyler Herro or Malik Monk um I I think Detroit would be idiotic to let Malik Beasley go unless the money is crazy out of control uh but if even if I’m Detroit I’m going to 45 million over three years to bring Malik Beasley back uh because I want to keep building this thing all right doc players to watch uh I’ve got one Jaden Ivy you already talked about him a little bit january 1st he had uh right around that time he had surgery to repair a broken fibula in his left leg uh so that’s January you know will he be ready for the start of the season i think doc is a legitimate question um as we we sit here in June I’m sure he’s rehabbing like a like a you know what right now banshee like a banshee um and the season starts in basically 4 months um he should be ready but I don’t think we can put that to bed yet but Doc the statline was pretty good dude 17 four and four i like 1.3 combined defensive stats okay 2.1 threes shot 41% on threes 46% from the field dude Ivy was coming before he went down man so I’m kind of st I’m kind of psyched about Jaden Ivy well and I I mean I wonder dude does Detroit want Jaden Ivy and Malik Beasley uh I I feel like it’s one or the other right i mean they can play they could coexist but I don’t think it’s ideal um so yeah that’s that’s a big one uh you know one guy that somehow we talked about the Pistons we didn’t mention Jaylen Duran he had a nice year he had a double double um with a block kind of want to see him take that to the next level like a lot of people excited about Jaylen Duran’s career and you know 12 and 10 and 1 is is okay but I’d like to see it more like 16 and 12 and two so can Jaylen Duran get it to the next level and then uh Oer Thompson is he going to blow up next year are the is the minute handcuff finally going to be removed and then you mentioned Big Ball Big Ball Paul uh Paul Reed remember when he was backing up uh Joel Embiid and every time Embiid would go down everybody would be like “Beball gotta go Bball Paul.” Dude he goes to Detroit you don’t even know he’s there like remember he was in New York for a cup of coffee too i think the invisible man so whatever i’m hopefully the Bball Paul days are behind us that’s I I just love that nickname it’s such like a nondescript player bball Ball Paul uh Andre is giving us some intel on Malik Beasley money bobby Marks of ESPN says the maximum annual salary Detroit can sign Beasley to is 7.2 million since Beasley has nonbird rights but and it’s a big old butt detroit could also use its mid-level exception to sign him for more money so that means they could go up to 9 10 11 12 whatever that uh price point is again I don’t know if they’re going to bring him back i would just strongly recommend if the the money is legit that you bring back Malik Beasley um and I think Malik Beasley and Jade and Ivy can perfectly coexist uh with Ivy in the starting five and Beasley coming off the bench playing between 24 and 30 minutes backing up I don’t know a variety of spots shoot when you talk about bench uh he could probably back up one two three and four um and just be out there banging threes all right Doc we have reached finals time and uh if you want a little bit of a recap uh before we give our predictions for game five let’s talk about game three and game four the two games since we um have been off uh and you have um uh so go ahead like what whatever you want to say on those games obviously game four it was uh the SGA takeover on Friday night so what what kind of recap do you want to get into here was it the SGAA takeover or was it the Scott Foster takeover uh I’m not sure um or the or the Pacers choke you got to throw that in game three game three it was Benny Mathan uh time and and also uh TJ McConnell like those two guys were incredible uh off the bench for the Pacers uh Matine had a huge game in game three pacers won a win um at the end and and kind of easily and that was that was exciting game four the Pacers were in control the entire game they were well the second half they were in control they’re up 10 with like five minutes left and then uh a lot of calls went Oklahoma City’s way the Pacers choked um just nothing good happened uh in the last three or four minutes of that game from my perspective especially when I had the Pacers plus six and they lost by seven um but skill everything about game four just sucked for me personally bro I took a bath i took a bath on Friday and it looked so good you know 10 minutes earlier we were like “Yeah dude i It Indiana had it it was theirs the championship was theirs bro and they blew it.” And it it was a combination they blew it and OKC took it it wasn’t one or the other it was both but there was a lot of Indiana blowing it man 17 points in the fourth quarter one point in the final 320 i mean close the game finish the deal they had a chance they were poised over Dracula who was bleeding out on the battlefield and they had the the mallet they had the stake right at Dracula’s heart and they were like “Boom.” And they got knocked off of Dracula just at the last second and then Dracula you know did what he does and now Dracula’s alive and well and good luck um cuz you didn’t kill the boogeyman when you had a chance doc just mesmerized with SGA’s takeover bro he had 15 points like in the final three whatever it was in the game 15 of their last 16 points um it was a Jordan Kobe takeover a refused to lose no no no no no not today so that all that stuff was super super impressive on the OKC side um and on the on the Indiana side I I thought it wasn’t like a James Harden like it wasn’t like the super choke job it was like a subtle choke job but a very very important and illtimed choke job um in terms of you having that opportunity to go in for the kill and you missed it um so let’s look ahead to game five doc uh the line is a bulbous nine and a half uh where are you at with uh ATS and maybe some prop bets here on game five tonight well it’s Pacers at Thunder tonight at 8:30 uh OKC is favored by nine and a half points because it’s at OKC um you know I haven’t really sat down to do any uh wagering on this game but I have not seen Oklahoma City blow out these Pacers like they’ve blown everybody else out like at least after four games you think there would have been one 30point massacre right uh I think Oklahoma City is nervous i think coach Rick Carile for the Pacers has his team prepared like is well prepared for the Thunder as you can possibly be because they don’t match up with anybody nobody matches up well with the Thunder but the Pacers have at least held them in check um I’m going to take the Pacers and the points just because um I don’t we haven’t seen a blowout yet i I feel like I I will also say this if there’s going to be a blowout it’s probably going to be tonight i just don’t think it’s coming indiana’s almost impossible to blow out game two Doc any other team in the NBA that’s a 30-point win for OKC but Indiana kept coming remember Hallebertton didn’t give up he had that nice little spury fourth quarter um Matan was making bucket setting the stage for game three and uh and and again cost me money dude these finals are not going well for your boy i my account I started with 200 i was way up over 500 now I’m at 230 yeah ah right like h this series dude i look entertainment wise I’m loving what we’re watching betting wise I want boring boring works in betting because boring is predictable boring is an investment like when you know oh this team’s going to crank this team now it’s just math okay how much are they going to win by when to attack when to go with the live betting this damn Indiana OKC series dude is like a Tarantino movie like the plot twists we’re going to get plot twists tonight bro we are weird [ __ ] is going to happen in tonight’s game doc I am with you i I’m going to take the points here it’s just a ton of points indiana is is incredibly hard uh to beat even by double digits let alone like massacre them which I don’t think is going to happen i do think OKC wins the game though giving Indiana their first back-to-back losses since March 10th uh that’s a bit of a leap of faith uh telling you that but I do think Indiana’s going to win the game uh pardon me okc is going to win the game and it’s going to make a terrific betting opportunity for all of us in game six when Indiana has uh death at its door and I think Indiana is going to win game six and force a game seven all right Doc let me give you some prop bets here i like how before you do that real quick remember I told everybody to bet u the exact wins before the series started i had Indiana uh winning 4-3 at plus 1100 and I had Oklahoma City Oklahoma winning 42 uh plus 375 and both of those are still fully in place i’m kind of excited about that like even as as each game happens I’m I’m still like those are the two that I’m really I really care about so what props you got what props uh I hope you uh I hope you hit the bigger one whatever the bigger payout is that would be the Pacers in seven you may get that you may get that uh I like Hallebertton’s over tonight Doc uh it’s at 17 and a half um he went 14 17 22 18 uh over the number the last two games i think the problem in game one and uh and the first three quarters of game two is Hallebertton wasn’t aggressive enough we’ve seen a little bit of a change with that not huge uh but a little bit of a change with that he knows he’s got to be more aggressive from the start of games so he’s gone over both times with that mindset on 17 and a half i like Aaron Nmith just because he’s coming off a lousy game two of nine shooting eight points his numbers at 10 and a half i I see him um bouncing back and then Doc Rick Carile went away from Matan in game four okay let me take you through his last seven games going back to the New York series 20 points 23 points he had four points in that last win against New York five in game one 14 in game two 27 explosion in game three then back down to eight points in 14 minutes in game four i believe that Matin is going to be a key guy tonight um to try to get Indiana to cover that spread maybe even win um I think he will get more than 14 minutes and I think he will have more than the eight points his number is eight and a half so that’s where I’m at i got uh I got Benny Math um I got knee smith and I got a little Halley all right man i got uh I got Seakum points over and Hallebertton points over rick get us out of here for Dr ray for Andre Leouch and I really appreciate his patience with me uh we are out we will see you very very soon here this two episode extravaganza is over and this episode’s been
