MLB LIVE🔴 St. Louis Cardinals vs Chicago White Sox – Jun 19, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
hello baseball fans and welcome inner league baseball on MLB the show it’s the St louis Cardinals going up against the Chicago White Socks first pitch coming your way next so just about set now and today’s starter Aaron Savali and Singi we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots well it hasn’t been a great year so far in terms of erra but he’s had some decent games and there have been some flashes of greatness if you will we’ll see today if he’s able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses put himself in a position to bring that erra down because you know in the back of his mind beyond the W he wants to have a better earn run average brendan Donovan the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one and another ball no strikes that’s in there and it’s two and one he’s a bad ball hitter so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone he still might beat you not an easy out by any means next offering is downstairs that one misses so a lead off walk and now it’s Ivon Herrera let’s go yeah that’s fouled off [Applause] donovan on at first nobody out on the ground to third might be two safe at first as they can’t make the play batting third left fieldielder Alec Burles the batter now Alec Burlson [Applause] and a strike on the outside edge there’s an opportunity to do some damage but you’ve got to be selective make sure you get a pitch that you can handle [Applause] and that one fouled off missed inside with the curb clearly didn’t come out of his hand the right way left that curve ball way up foul ball still a one and two count definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside really think the outer half is open that one misses now two and two way to lay off that pitch down [Applause] drilled to right way back there and that is gone it’s his sixth home run of the season it’s three nothing he absolutely crushed that one no doubt about that one Boo we knew it wasn’t coming back there was a sinker up in the zone it looked like it came out of the pitcher’s hand a little bit too early doesn’t have the velocity that that good for seam fast does and at the plate he didn’t miss it here’s Contraras now [Applause] that catches the outside corner strike one [Applause] lifted in the air right center field and that’ll fall for a base hit batting fifth third baseman Nolan Aronado so a man at first Nolan Aronado next up for the Cardinals sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit lead runner holds up they’re at first and second with nobody out batting six second base Nolan Gorman here’s Nolan Gorman swinging a ground ball and that’s just fouled first and second here no outs swinging a foul straight back [Music] swing and a miss struck him out well I don’t think there’s a hitter alive that hasn’t at some point succumb to that pitch right there it just looks like it’s in the zone the entire way and then the top spin and gravity take over in the blink of an eye and it’s just such a tough pitch to lay off of jordan Walker next up for the Cardinals that misses and that is ball one [Applause] just missed could be some action here on this next pitch couple runners on probably a challenge pitch coming runners at first and second with one gone [Applause] outside low and it’s three and 0 three and 0 righty delivers and that’ll load the bases bell just came apart right there four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of his own and now it’s going to be Victor Scott into center maid on the move snags it on the run and there are two outs friday night now we take a check of the St louis Cardinals lineup this team can really pile up the runs Chris they’re among the top teams in scoring this year yeah and when you can get a lead and be out in front it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen and on top of that it helps your own pitching staff it gives them more margin for error so instead of pitchers squeezing the ball trying to throw darts and be perfect they can relax let the ball come out of their hands and pitch effectively so that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense [Applause] the short stop takes a ball hey it’s still early in this ball game but you know this at bat right here could be a big factor in the outcome you think about it there’s a chance to really blow this thing open right here [Applause] caught him looking for the K st louis gets three on the homer it’s now 3 nothing back here on the south side today’s starting pitcher Miles Michaels what do you have on him Sigy well he’s been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it’s the release point maybe it’s the motion but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side swing and a ground ball out to short slings it across one up one down time to check out the lineup for the White Socks not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games Chris yeah but again that can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now and that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs so we’ll see if everybody can just relax bring things together and perform at a level that they’re capable of ground ball left side oh he gloves it nicely done for the hour i know they called Azie Smith the wizard but Nolan Aronado he’s a wizard over there at the hot corner seems like we see him make plays like this on a daily basis two outs space is empty ben and Tandy up here and there’s a foul ball and that one is inside ball one so a foul ball makes it one and two two down to line drive aronado to first in time and it’s a one two three inning shy socks held in check here they trail it here 3 nothing all set for the start of the inning now it’s the DH Brendan Donovan lewis the designated hitter Brendan Donovan savali back to work and that misses one and0 singi he wasn’t real sharp in the first got hit around but really more so didn’t throw a ton of strikes well he’s just got to find a way to settle down he was clearly fighting himself out there not really finding the strike zone walking batters so we’ll see if he can get back on track and fill up the zone a little bit more james Kingsley our played umpire consistent and maybe a little generous on the edges yeah Boo he’ll give a little bit on the edges like you said but from what I’ve seen he usually does that when a pitcher is just commanding those parts of the strike zone and essentially they’ve earned it the umpire rolls with them next offering in there for a strike three balls in a strike fans don’t really understand the familiarity and relationship players and coaches have with umpires i mean you see them a lot yeah but they’re all out there trying to do their best and perform at a high level so when you respect that I think over time you can develop a relationship with them that one lined in left field and that’s base hit and the leadoff man aboard up next for the Cardinals catcher Ivon Herrera now the number two hitter Ivon Herrera 0 for one he hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time gets the strike that was the sweeper 01’s the count pitch misses and the count even one and one and that’s a pitch early in this game he needs called for a strike struggling with command issues he’s got to get a little help from the umpire swing and a ground ball up the middle that’s a base hit lead runner to second so two on and nobody out two consecutive base hits for this team really nice job staying up the middle with his approach he didn’t try to do too much with the pitch just shot it through the infield first and second no outs and here is Alec Burlson he’s already homerred in this game pitch is in there and it’s 0 and one first and second no outs here in the top of the second sit him down ah ground ball and that’s through the infield they won’t test it here base is loaded no outs that’s now three hits in a row for the offense they got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point pretty impressive for an 02 count now the base is loaded big opportunity for them to break this game open here comes Wilson Contrarus one for one with a single so far [Applause] that clips the corner [Applause] and that is out of play donovan the runner at third herrera on second burlson at first with no outs oh one movement for the White Sox in their bullpen grant Taylor getting ready to go [Applause] one two to Contrarus bows it off still one and two i think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield struck him out looking so now it’s Dan Aronado a single his first time how many times have we seen an early at bat change the course of a game it happens every night in baseball and maybe it happens again here base hit one run is in another comes in to score it’s 5 nothing couple of hits in a row for him here pitch was on the outside didn’t go the other way with it but still a nice job of using the big part of the field to find a hole no way he hits it that well if he hooks around the baseball there here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot aaron Savali won’t go any further and the opener strategy clearly didn’t work out this time new arm coming on we’ll be back after a short break now pitching for the white the pitcher for the White Socks Grant Taylor i think he’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard just doesn’t have the same intensity to it but he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score Nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals he’s 0 for one that one’s upstairs ball one counts one and0 still only one out here in the inning there’s a swing and a drive and it’s a one hopper off the wall should be extra bases one run is in now a relay to the plate in there safely it’s seven to nothing nicely done brings home two fast pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter so no surprise he put a great swing on it and now the right fielder Jordan Walker worked a walk in his first trip to the plate and that’s downstairs and that’s ball one runner at second here one gone [Applause] that one finds the zone and now it’s even one and one here’s a high chopper maid throws to first in time now batting the center fielder Victor Scott the second and here is Victor Scott 0 for one with a fly out swinging a foul straight back two outs and one at scored position [Applause] pop foul out of play off to the right that one missed really good take especially with two strikes fights that one away still one and two [Applause] [Music] [Applause] this to center field rojos hustling after it and he makes the catch and that is that they get four runs on five hits no errors and leave one we go to the bottom of inning number two it’s the Cardinals seven and the White Socks nothing we head to the bottom of the second here’s the cleanup hitter for the Socks Miguel Vargas miguel Vargas strike one this is one of those times when you want to be aggressive go ahead and pitch to contact let the defense work behind you you’ve got a nice comfortable lead don’t try to be too fine hammered down the right side but foul he’s getting the barrel to the ball just got to work on that timing a little bit back to right walker gets under it one away batting fifth designated hitter now here is Kyle Teal teal and that one just misses a ball and no strikes one out base is empty right through there for a strike one ball one strike foul ball swing and a highf fly ball to left carous two away now batting six catcher number seven and now the switch in catcher Edgar Carol and it’s fouled away two outs just missed and they’ll do it again one and two here got him looking and he did not like the call down in order go to White Socks they continue to trail 7 nothing top half of the third inning and stepping in for the Cardinals Jose Barrero barrerero in his second season 26 years old and he was born in Cuba and that’s off the inside edge and it’s one and0 swang in a high-fly ball well struck that one back and forget it he circles the bases his second of the year and they add to their lead it’s 8 nothing that’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap and you know there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that and probably just as many who don’t have the approach either he let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here donovan in the box again takes a strike [Applause] and now it’s eating up the real threats are coming up already giving up a home run in this inning he’s going to really have to bear down [Applause] fast ball to two balls one strike [Music] in the air center field benendi is there and there’s one away now batting catcher Ivon Herrera ivon Herrera next up for the Cardinals one for two [Applause] and first offering is fouled off one out base is empty and a run in we’re here in the top half of inning number three highfly ball out into left center field taylor sizing this one up he makes the catch and there’s two down up next for the Cardinals leftielder two down base is empty now the left fielder Alec Burlson he’s already homered here in this one [Applause] and that’s through there for a strike go and one that one fouled off two outs base is empty going two down out to short on the run sends it over to first and that’s a nice play to end the inning one for the Cardinals on the solo home run it’s now an 8 nothing game back after this on the show bottom of the inning and here’s the first baseman ryan looking for his first big league hit right here [Applause] delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located very top of the strike zone middle away [Music] cuts out it misses that’s a strike out went back to the fast ball and it was effective toughest pitch to hit fast ball and then the outer black man sometimes you just got to tip your cap now Michael A taylor on the corner for a strike one down base is empty that misses one and one and that one missing low [Applause] that one misses and the count is three and one one strike [Applause] there’s the strike that’s excellent location on the fast ball right there early in this game if he can do that all game should be a good outing for him down the line nobody can get there and it’s a foul ball [Music] out to center scott puts it away two away batting ninth second base John here’s Josh Rollas in the air out towards right center walker sizes this one up he’s got it and that is out number three nine straight retired here to start the game it’s the Cardinals eight and the White Socks nothing back at right field John Shelby with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Wilson Contrus a change up missing ball one [Music] ball two [Music] right through there for a strike backto-back fast balls in and that last one called for a strike probably go away but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off [Music] worm Burner into the outfield for a knock so a runner aboard to start the inning well that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher couldn’t get any air under it but he smoked that ball back up the middle timing was just perfect got great wood on it and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it here’s Nolan Aronado in the air right side of the infield rohos hauls it in for the one down now batting second base Nolan Gorman nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals come on let’s get the ground that one’s in there 0 and one fouls one off out of play back to our left contrarus at first one gone keeps the atbat going with a foul ball off the mark there and it’s one and two got it two gone and now Jordan Walker right fielder jordan Walker on its way to the corner and that will drop foul [Music] no inside the Cards up big in this one top half of inning number four that one not close now two balls in a strike liner base hit they stopped the lead runner at second now two on with two outs the first move felt like a bit of a guess you have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly now up for St louis Victor Scott b for two in this one and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter two on two outs inside and that’s ball one lifted in the air out to left taylor pulls it in on the run so the Cards strand a couple as the lead holds at eight to nothing bottom of the fourth now it’s the right fielder Mike Tacman right fielder Mike Tacman and that misses one and0 you know these White Socks just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the zone we’ll see but I think they have to and it goes just foul that one way inside [Music] fouls that off to the left and will do it again i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up fouled off again and it remains three and two [Music] and he grounds one to the right side contrarus takes it to the bag lead off hitter retired in the four batting shortstop chase my draw now it’s the shortstop chase my draw grounded out his first time he’s not the power guy but he can hurt you to all parts of the ballpark in the air to left center and makes the grab and there’s two away up next for the White Socks Andrew Beniti steps up grounded out his first time up swinging a ground ball up the middle throws to first in time and he has thrown four shutout innings nothing doing for the White Socks still 8 nothing here on the south side and the batter will be the shortstop Jose Barrero taylor back to work and that’s a base hit had a good start to the inning didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat solid swing from start to end on time with everything really good balance nice extension and he met it out front for the line drive knock next is the designated hitter Brendan Donovan and first offering is fouled off you know these cards putting together some really good at bats in this game there’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate it looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter now this ball is well hit this one’s got a chance and that is a foul ball cuts and misses it’s a strike out just overmatched on that fast right there and it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it and here’s the catcher Ivon Herrera one for three first pitch just misses barrerero over at first with one away pitch misses there and it’s two and0 next offering is fouled back swag and a slow roller quickly to second for one what a double play that was inning over no runs one hit no errors and no one left last half of the fifth coming up it’s the Cardinals eight and the White Socks nothing [Applause] we head to the bottom of the fifth now here’s the cleanup hitter for the White Socks Miguel Vargas vargas and that is downstairs and that’s ball one you know these White Socks just aren’t putting together very many good at bats in this one we’re in the back half of the game and they’re still searching for a base runner he’s been great out there on the mound no doubt but it’s also been a disappointing performance at the plate to this point and it’s through for a hit and they have their first base runner since the first inning couldn’t have timed it up any better than that just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it man sometimes that’s all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole so man aboard and now the DH Kyle Teal flying to left his first time and as we get deeper it’s not going to get any easier these at bats are going to feel more and more desperate with every out the rest of the way and a good fast ball to start him off that’s strike one one’s the count and that one upstairs ball one swing and a miss one ball two strikes and that’s in the dirt two balls two strikes [Music] to third and he can’t come up with it still finds a way to get off a throw the throw comes in too late a tough play and now there are runners at first and second man I was expecting 543 double play off the bat but I think he just tried to be a little too quick there especially when you think it’s a pretty routine ball to handle it’s really easy to think ahead to the transfer and the throw before you actually bring it into your glove carol in the box now as he leaves that one up high swag get a popup foul out of play off to the right side that’ll find the stands [Music] that’s inside he’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit mission accomplished swing and a miss and that’s strike two there’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see and he guessed wrong right there nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end and that’s a fair ball coming home one run across coming home the throw is offline and he’s in to score it’s 82 gets the job done as he brings home a pair really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game and there’s one thing on his mind this at bat get that first hit at the big league level and that’s outside ball one runner at second nobody out [Applause] and that one is inside oh he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout man at second line to left dives but it falls and now it looks like extra bases coming home he will score comes through with the RBI anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that’s great work right there and you can feel this crowd waking up a bit here as the guys are starting to make some noise with their bats runner in scoring position no outs here’s the left fielder Michael A taylor [Applause] and a foul ball [Applause] that’s towards center scott has this one sized up he makes the grab runner tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out [Applause] up next for the White Socks second baseman Josh Rohawks here’s the second baseman Josh Rohox flyed to right his first time [Applause] swinging a foul out of play runner on to third one gone that one to first contrarus now two away as they get a run across back to the top of the White Sox lineup mike Tman getting ready to hit he’s grounded out a couple of times just missed well a really rough inning out there on the mound and uh this is one of those where you learn a lot about a guy’s toughness and his ability to turn the page and keep pressing forward and that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play two down in the air on the infield barrerero under this one makes the catch and over so it’s four runs for him three hits one error no one left we’re through five it’s the Cardinals eight and the White Socks four all set for the top of the sixth and stepping in for the Cardinals Alec Burlson alec Burlington edge of the zone for a strike it’s 0 and one activity in the pen for the White Socks number 64 up and loosening in the pen boozer warming up as well right side makes the sliding stop takes it himself and he got him nicely done at first for the out now batting for first base [Applause] and up to hit is Wilson Contrarus way high there ball one contrarus in his ninth season 32 years old and he was born in Venezuela base is empty one away and we’re the top half of the sixth b there’s the strike [Applause] next pitch is outside and the count is three and one fought off foul ripped to short tosses to first two up two down now batting third baseman Aronado two outs base is empty here’s Nolan Aronado he swings and fouls one off two outs yeah that’s fouled off 0 and two now just off the inside edge and that’s awfully close i don’t know how you take that he’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now check swing didn’t go the countdown two and two gosh Boog i think he’s trying to de the pitcher there’s no way he’s thinking he can hit that pitch that’s down and in [Music] this one chopped to first the flip to the pitcher covering st louis goes down in order so no runs no hits no errors and no one left 23 four two up in the home half of the six it’s the Cardinals eight and the White Socks four and we’re back here we go bottom six and now Chase my draw chase my draw and that one is lifted in the air puts it away for the out and a quick out number one now batting center fielder Andrew andrew Beni up to the plate has grounded out a couple of times come on well I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning anything after that a hitter or two is bonus but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line next pitch is downstairs the Red Birds leading by four here in the bottom of the sixth next offering is in for a strike next offering is outside he caught it behind his back over to first and very nicely done for the out now batting third baseman Miguel Vargas so two down now and here is Miguel Vargas had a breaking ball misses outside and now two nothing he hasn’t wanted to challenge him both of those pitches off the plate away don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate you may just have to be patient and take your walk here two down to ball that’s strike on the inside corner [Music] now a fly ball to right center walker makes the catch and that is that nothing doing for the offense that time seventh inning coming up it’s the Cardinals eight and the White Socks four now pitching for Camboozer comes on now softball’s been really good against left-handed hitters and loser [Applause] now up for St louis Gorman second base Nolan Gorman there’s your strike [Applause] [Music] and a swing and a miss going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball [Music] line drive caught nothing you can do about those as a hitter even though you know that they still drive you absolutely crazy so up next Jordan Walker that’s outside and it’s one and0 right through there for a strike in the air left side [Applause] nabs it two down now batting the center fielder Victor Scott now a chance for Victor Scott 0 for three in this one if there’s nobody on in front of him you know a single for him many times is a double this guy is off to the races ready to steal a bag when he’s on first base puts a bunt down right side not and he’s safe at first as no one can get to the bag in time it doesn’t surprise anyone when he gets on base by dropping down a bond i mean this is just the latest example of him using his speed to his advantage and showing off his skills with the bat that was very nice so digging in Jose Barrero pitch misses one and0 Scott the runner at first with two gone swearing and a miss and the count is one and two that’s a real nice cutter right there i mean this guy can struggle with the inside pitch at times so I’d say that’s pretty effective if you can continue to command it on that side of the plate [Music] two outs and down on strikes he goes that ends the frame the Cards lead one but they still lead it by a count of eight to four [Music] [Applause] we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh sunny Gray left-handed batter at the plate and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year so this seems like a calculated move here’s the White Socks DH Kyle Teal the White Socks in striking distance but have some work to do it starts with the laid off man i need a good at bat out of him right here first off and it just misses action in the St louis bullpen phil Mahon appears to be getting loose swang and a miss and the count one and one good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in the hitting zone hard to get the barrel to it swing and a miss and he got him to chase yeah I don’t think anyone’s got good numbers swinging at pitches in that location breaking ball in there got him looking one out now batting Edgar steps to the plate for the White Socks just missed close one doesn’t get the call two and 0 good spot there but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone that one the other way he holds it in two away it’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you’ve done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control nota the next to hit takes ball one nope that’s down two down nobody on here in the bottom of the seventh next offering is down low three and 0 and a four pitch walk definitely lost the handle during that sequence four pitches for the walk and that last one didn’t even threaten the zone catcher might want to go talk to him at the plate michael A taylor and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike swings and misses at the sweeper goes down looking come on now the White Socks leave one they’re unable to make a dent in an 84 deficit now pitching for Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the Brandon Eer 32 appearance and here’s the St louis leadoff man Brendan Donovan the designated hitter Brendan Donovan that’s off the mark and that’s ball one swing and a miss strike one one [Applause] fouled off left side and that one is downstairs and the count is even two and two swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt gets to it on the first in time to get him one away in the strike out you hear people talk about letting the ball travel so often in terms of a hitting approach and that’s a great example why right there if he’s willing to let that curveball get a little deeper into the zone before he commits he’s way more likely to recognize that it’s making a beline for the dirt on the other side still a nice two- strike pitch though and now Ivon Herrera [Music] one down base is empty inside almost got him out to short mro in plenty of time to first got the alley now batting left fielder Alec Burles and now here is Alec Burlson he’s done some damage launched a homer at his first at bat back in the first yeah that was a tone setter no doubt i mean you can stomach an early solo homer but a three-run shot just doesn’t go down quite as smooth that one’s upstairs ball one next pitch is inside two balls no strikes swinging a drive deep right field and a foul ball little early on that fast ball i’m sure the pitcher taking a note look for an off speed pitch on this next one the count two and one and delivers outside and there’s ball four take your base well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn’t offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first man at first wilson Contras now up to the plate and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike [Applause] [Music] that’s a ball squirts away a little bit one ball one strike swing and a miss and he was fooled one ball two strike got him lucas that was pretty nasty no runs no base hits no errors and one left on last half of the eighth coming up it’s the Cardinals eight and the White Socks four [Applause] now pitching for back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth jojo Romero bringing in the lefty with a left-handed hitter coming up to hit classic bullpen move right here so we’ll see how it works out josh Roach digs in now second baseman Josh Rohox and that drops in for a strike ground ball right side it squirts through and that turns the lineup over all day baby just one of those seen eye base hits through the infield he just kind of rolled over on it a little bit but sometimes those can find a hole and get you a knock here’s Mike Tacman just off the outside edge and that is ball one nobody out runner at first [Music] liner caught at second that swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well i know it didn’t produce a hit but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate chase Maidaw steps to the plate for the White Socks 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out ball one there ground ball to the right side and it finds its way through for a hit and out to a board now batting center fielder Andrew Benendi to the plate 0 for three with three ground outs that misses the zone ball one two on one out tapped at the plate but it’s a foul ball got the bat going too soon it’s strike two movement in the bullpen for the Cardinals phil Mod up and throwing helley getting cranked up as well rohos the lead runner out at second my drop over at first with one away a swing by Ben Candy driven deep to right that’s back there that one is gone he sends it out of here his seventh home run of the season it’s 87 well that swing changes things yes it does they were in spiky distance they found a way to fight back big time a good hitter gets pitch recognition early he saw exactly where that was going to be the challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing he stayed on it and got all of it here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen jojo Romero departs and he leaves in a one-run game new pitcher coming on we’ll be back in a minute new arm of the mound for the Cardinals Kyle Ley he’s certainly been one of their better relief pitchers this season the numbers are really solid so they feel great about handing the ball over to him so one out nobody on so up next for Chicago Miguel Vargas that’s off the inside corner and that’s ball one [Music] [Applause] and another ball holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning outside three balls no strikes that does feel like he’s frustrated a little bit he wants to be challenged next offering in there for a strike they’re down three and one and that’s in there at the knees it’s a hitter you don’t know what to expect here in the 3-2 well if he’ll throw a breaking ball 3-1 he’ll do it again 3-2 [Applause] foul we’ll see another payoff pitch white Sox down a run [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out that’s out number two such a challenge when a guy’s got great velocity he’s throwing a slider over 90 mph you want to be ready to hit that fast ball but that late break just eats you up every time and next is the designated hitter Kyle Teal [Applause] a swing and a miss and that’s strike one this is a close game it’s high leverage even if it’s late hold them right there and try to win in the bottom of the ninth if you don’t tie it up in this eighth white Socks down a run late swing fouled to the left almost got him two strike [Applause] that’s ball it’s a tough pitch but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one that’s the one when she elevates guys aren’t touched it looking to get the tying run on base in the air pretty deep out to center field he’s got it and that will end the inning but not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast and this is now an 87 ball game you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show we’re back it’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound Dan Alavilla pretty tight game so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is well one game and stepping in for the Cardinals nolan Aronado [Applause] Altavilla in his fifth season 32 years old and he was a fifth round pick back in 2014 fast for a strike [Applause] strike two man 91 on the slider right there that’s a hard one that’s a low end fast ball for some pitchers foul ball still a one and two count swag and a miss the velocity blasted it right past him i love to see guys compete and I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch you see it so well but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity man it is hard to catch up to [Applause] and first offering is fouled off [Applause] i got one ball one strike [Applause] the 1-1 is fouled off the one two that’s down and in a slider missed good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with you’re better off taking that pitch [Applause] stays alive you can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball strike three and that’s two in a row well he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one that was his third strike out and this one looking obviously so he’s been a little overmatched he’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate and now the right fielder Jordan Walker that missed by a lot ball one not looking like they’ll be adding any insurance runs heading into the bottom of the ninth so it’s going to be on the bullpen to hold this lead one-run game here in the top of the ninth and another ball [Applause] next offering is downstairs three balls no striking [Applause] there’s the strike [Applause] swung on belted that’s going back back some more and out of here his fourth home run of the season it’s 97 that’s their third home run of the game they’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot they thought he could blow a high fast ball by him but he was ready for it look at how quickly he jumped on that pitch two outs nobody on and now the center fielder Victor Scott this guy can absolutely fly i think one of the faster players in baseball [Applause] up and in and he gets out of the way straighten him up a little bit alta Villa maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run Chris yeah it seems that way you know guys they can come out feel good but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch they’re not trusting their stuff now batting two outs runner at first Jose Barrero next up for the Cardinals up and in and that’s ball one well he’s been good for the most part is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit no partner every pitcher is a little different i I liken it to you sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show uh so perhaps it’s the same with him nobody really wants their rhythm broken up but sometimes they need a little pickme up throw to first he’s good [Applause] next offering is in for a strike one ball two strike and look out as that one ran in and got him he had two strikes on him and he hit him first and second two outs now it’s the DH brendan Donovan [Applause] on the ground to first he takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it one scores in the inning coming on this solo home run it’s now a 97 ball game it’s Major League Baseball on the show back now and on the mound the closer Brian Hellsley i can’t imagine any save is an easy one you’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can so it’s always high stress let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out the White Socks edgar Carol steps to the plate for the White Socks [Applause] there’s a strike hey look we’ll see how it factors in i just can’t emphasize how much that insurance run in the top of the ninth means i mean just such a big difference mentally when you’re chasing two runs instead of one nope getting squeezed a little bit here late [Applause] and that one is in the dirt and that’s ball two [Applause] foul ball there instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended tied him up a little bit slightly up slightly in [Applause] foul ball another 2-2 upcoming [Applause] little bit low wow triple digits on the gun i I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past but it’s still impressive to watch [Applause] registers the punch out and hits 101 well the first batter it’s always a big one for the closer i mean you get that punch out you get settled in you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you’re going to wrap this thing up not in takes ball one off the plate and that one fouled off [Applause] cut out and missed at 10 and one and it’s one and two [Applause] foul ball left side he’ll see another [Applause] got him looking white Socks down to their final out this is definitely what a team likes to see out of their closer come in and just destroy all hope first two batters two strikeouts see if he can strike out the side so they’re down to their final out and up next for Chicago Michael A taylor 0 for three with two fly outs and a strikeout [Applause] right through there for a strike [Music] [Applause] and a foul ball two-run game with two away here in the bottom of the ninth [Applause] got him and that’s the ball game we saw both teams come ready to swing it in this one and they found a lot of success couple of touchdowns up on the board today pretty amazing and it turned out to be a close one considering all the runs put up really wild and 97 is the final here in this one for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show thanks for stopping by i’m John Shami talk to you soon
