🔴LIVE 🔴Houston Astros VS Oakland Athletics / June 19/ Baseball Summer/MLB the show 25
all right first pitch coming up and on the mound for the A’s in this one Mitch Spence what do we need to know here about the right-hander well Boo may be a little pedestrian there in terms of the ERA but with those numbers you expect to be in a ball game and have an opportunity to win and really that’s all his teammates can ask for so we’ll see if he’s able to be consistent in this one jeremy Pñena the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one first pitch 705 swings here and blasts one left field soderstrom going back and it’s off the wall safe at second with a leadoff double couldn’t have timed it up any better than that put a pretty good swing on that one as he drove it out to deep left didn’t quite have the right combination of launch angle and exit velocity to get it over the fence but you’re never going to be disappointed with extra bases runner in scoring position no outs so now the Astros designated hitter Isak Paredus ground ball up the middle oh great grab on the dive and that’s a great play for the out well you can see right there he looks very comfortable going to the backand nice diving stop gets up to complete the play that’ll fire the team up for sure so the go-ahead run in scoring position so next up for Houston Jose Altuve first pitch misses altuve has a lot of history with the Astros in fact he’s played so many seasons in Houston that he’s the only player to be named an all-star in both leagues while playing for the same team you know Boo Aluve goes back all the way to those Astros days in the NL Central before they move to the AL West pñena takes his lead at third with one away to the right side Schuman sends it to first but the go-ahead run comes in to score first base Christian Walker and now it’s Christian Walker one of the rare guys at first base that you almost think defense first he is that good with the glove you’re talking about top of the list elite defensive first baseman and that is out of play first baseman are involved in just about every single play so when you have somebody so solid over there uh you can breathe a little easier and that gets the top of the zone for a strike the other thing about an elite defensive first baseman like him it it just instills a ton of confidence in those guys playing third and short that have to make those long tough throws at times and he just handles them so well so he really makes the entire infield better with his glove next pitch is outside you’re not just talking about the ability to pick Chris one of the things about him the range is impressive as he’s able to go to his right and get to those balls in the hole he swung over top of the curveball [Applause] so it’s one run on one base hit no errors and nobody left on onto the bottom of the first it’s the Astros one and the Athletics coming to bat and we’re back starting on the mound in this one Shawn Duben yeah and as Whip tells you he’s been pretty effective this year on the mound i mean opposing hitters having a hard time getting on base and then being able to really distract him and do damage in terms of getting around the base path so taking the mound this is a guy you want out there if you’re his teammate and I expect him to be good in this one we go to the bottom of the first now it’s the DH Lawrence Butler and that one misses up and in and that’s ball one one of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter and that drops in for a strike this one popped up altuve drops into the glove and there’s one down at time now to check out the A’s lineup singi we’re looking at a young lineup here not much experience but they’re going to bring a lot of energy to the field yeah and that’s just it Boo we expect this lineup to play hard no matter what they are an exciting group to watch and now it’s going to be Jacob Wilson jacob the emmo for him is contact the guy who’s going to deliver average not a ton of power he’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere well that’s why it’s a team and when you look at a lineup he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate swang at a highf fly ball well struck that’s got a chance it one hops off the wall should be extra bases and he’s got a double he was all over that one pretty much just a textbook double into the gap and when you can drop one in there between the outfielders you know you’re making the turn at first just an excellent swing one out runner at second tyler Sodstrom up next for the A’s and the first pitch misses for ball one that clips the corner really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door that pitch is devastating and that one fouled off the one two gets a piece there we’ll do it again all right let’s go fights that one away still one and two outside with a breaking ball stays alive good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat fast ball is outside [Applause] five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headtohead you can see the crowd they’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet man at second fouled off again and it remains three and two i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with the fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up swinging a ground ball fires over to first so it was a long battle at the plate but they still managed to get the out batting fourth right fielder Brent Rooker up next for the A’s he’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed that one finds the zone that’s strike one swing and a miss and that’s strike two he got away with one there but he knows he can’t go into that spot very often against a guy like this two outs in the dirt man on second two down struck him out swinging couldn’t catch up to the heater so no runs here on a base hit no errors and one left we go on to inning number two it’s the Astros one and the A’s nothing all set for the start of the unit and stepping in for the Astros jake Meyers Spence back to work and that one almost got him pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there started on the edge of the plate with the spin you know it’s going to finish well off the plate next offering in there for a strike now two and one [Applause] late that time and it’s strike two [Applause] there’s a swing and a drive and it looks like trouble around first and hustling for second and he’s got a leadoff double batting put a pretty good jolt into that one great swing nice balance and weight transfer and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field runner in scoring position no outs now it’s the right fielder Cam Smith first pitch just misses slice to right and that’s a fair ball headed for the plate he’ll score comes through with the RBI anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that’s great work right there vic Keratini at the plate right through there for a strike man at second pulled hard but it’s a foul ball he goes down looking well I’m not really sure why he let that one go by i mean out of the hand it had a lot of the strike zone sure it had some good armside run at the end to move to the outside part of the plate but with two strikes you got to be ready to swing it there and you can’t leave it in the umpire’s hands mauricio Dubon the next to hit takes ball one one out and a runner at second and that’s fouled off and one and two and there’s a ball one out and a runner at second here in the top of the second check swing on the 2-2 appeal to first nope he held back that one hit to right and it stays fair runner from second crosses the plate and they’re up by three and he’ll pull into second safely batting night third baseman Luis Gor here’s Luis Guor that’s a strike across the top of the zone there’s the strike he doesn’t seem to like to pitch up hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches 02 count now i think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there highfly ball pretty well struck out towards right center that one back there that’s down one hops off the wall the run comes in from second and they lead by four seeing some good swings from him right now with consecutive extra base hits that can be a dangerous pitch if you don’t get it inside enough because as a hitter you see it coming across the plate the whole way no problem handling it and putting a good swing on it that time so the lineup flips over here’s the shorts stop at the play jeremy Pñena there’s a strike headed towards the corner rooker on the move towards the line grabs it on the run out number two oh those can be pretty fun as an outfielder got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down nothing better than that you feel like a wide receiver playing football and next is the designated hitter Isach Paradus grounded out his first time check swing and he went and it’s 0 and one runner at second two down that misses the zone and it’s one and one line drive sodrom pulls it in on the run three runs on four hits no errors and one left on now to the bottom of the second it’s the Astros four and the A’s nothing and welcome back to the ballpark we head to the bottom of the second now it’s the rookie first baseman Nick Curts first pitch doesn’t find the zone and another ball kenny Jansen doing home plate duties in this one not a huge strike zone from Jansen so he can’t really be called a pitcher umpire but he does like the bottom part of the strike zone we may see some pitchers steal a few strikes down there especially the ones right below the knees that’s if their catcher can present it properly dubong on the move pulls it in and there’s one away fans don’t really understand the familiarity and relationship players and coaches have with umpires i mean you see them a lot yeah but they’re all out there trying to do their best and perform at a high level so when you respect that I think over time you can develop a relationship with them max Muny now in the box comes up empty with a swing there and that’s in there for a strike and quickly nothing at two one out base is empty cuts and misses hits a strike out well that’s a curve ball that I’m sure he wants back at the plate two strikes the sort of pitch you’re hoping for a bit of a mistake and I’d say in a very hitable location but clearly the break was enough to get him to swing through it jj Blade the next to hit takes outside he swings and fouls one off two outs base is empty let’s go baby keeps the atbat going with a foul ball that one missed and that’s downstairs and a full count now outside and that is ball four one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it willie Macyver in the box now no balls in a strike leed the runner at first with two gone that one fouled off that just misses and the count is one and two really good take especially with two strikes swings and misses struck him out the A’s strand one they’re on the short end of a four nothing score and we’re back here’s the second base Jose Altuve worm Burner into the outfield for a knock so a runner aboard to start the inning tough game for him so far boo another hit and they’ve just been knocking him around through the first two plus he’s got to get things back on track maybe junk a pitch that isn’t working or he might not last much longer and next to hit for Houston Christian Walker went down on strikes his first time through slashes this one and it could be trouble coming home the tag and he’s safe and the lead is up to five went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle really nice job staying inside with his hands to fight off that pitch man that cutter was bearing in on him but he found a way to stay with his approach didn’t spin off it and he hit it pretty well here comes the skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move mitch Spence will depart and he’s responsible for the runner on second so the book isn’t closed on him yet we’ll be right back shawn Nukem gets handed the rock out of the pen i think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard just doesn’t have the same intensity to it but he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score runner in scoring position no outs meyers digs in now and a first pitch fast is in for a strike one on nobody out a run in we’re here in the top half of inning number three up and in ball one and that’s in for a strike fouled off the plate they’ll do it again you could see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball swing and that ball smashed on a line makes the catch grounder tags at second not in time he’s safe now batting number 11 Cam Smith up next for the Astros doubled his first time and Nukem fires one away with a runner at third next offering upstairs this situation he’s trying to get you to pop something up or jam you that’s a really good take knowing you got an opportunity to drive in a run here swang and a ball lifted in the air rooker racing over to make the catch that’s just a really nice catch on the run right there he saved extra bases for sure if the pitcher’s his friend he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch victor Keratini up next for the Astros he was a strikeout victim his first time off the plate and that is ball one swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow left field sodrom makes the catch and that’s the third out astros pick up a run on the RBI double and the lead is now 5 nothing set for the bottom of the third now it’s the second baseman Max Schum schum baby drilled in the air high and deep right field that’s back there out of here that one felt good his second of the year it’s 5-1 he wasted no time in that at bat swinging at the first pitch and he punished it [Applause] it’s like he’s playing whiffle ball up there and that’s typically not the easiest way to hit a home run to the slight opposite field into the gap man making it look easy that’s for sure now the A’s designated hitter Lawrence Butler he’s 0 for one and that skips in the dirt and the one with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters the 1-1 is fouled off nobody on nobody out with a run in here in the last half of the third that just misses two and two that’s down and in and there’s a fly ball deep right field tattooed and gone he flexes his power with that swing and they cut into the deficit it’s 52 [Applause] [Applause] backto back jacks and this club is fired up right now boo i mean this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow jacob Wilson up next for the A’s just missed ground ball up the middle that’s a base hit wasting no time he’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle seriously we’re starting with this already here’s the left fielder Tyler Soderstrom in the dirt and no movement on the bases it’s ball one wilson on it first nobody out swing and a ball driven out to center that one’s back there onto the track and he makes the catch now batting right [Music] brent Rooker getting ready to hit he’s 0 for one [Music] first pitch and he just misses still only one out here in the inning slashed foul down the right side that’ll hook off into the seats well Chris through the early stages he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game that misses and it’s two and one it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens in there for a strike at the top of the zone that’s a good at bat right there he was down early in that plate appearance works the walk man that’s a tough one to take on the full count but I guess he saw it really well it’s a really nice plate appearance next up for the A’s Nick Curts and that’s him for a strike four and one let’s go swings through that one very well executed change up right there if he can command the fast ball consistently that’s going to be an important pitch in terms of him turning this outing around got him he’s notched four strikeouts now he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious maxy up next for the A’s 0 for one he struck out swinging last time fouled off he was late squirts away a little bit way inside could be some action here on this next pitch couple runners on probably a challenge pitch coming first and second two down that one fouled off two and two got him looking that’s a strikeout but two round trippers in this inning the long ball was working it’s 52 and welcome back to the ballpark john Chambi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Mauricio Dubon fought off foul well these Astros doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game and the numbers back that up and here’s a stat for you Boo they’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at it’s pretty special stuff not so good if you’re out there on the mound athletics swings and misses it’s a strike out chase the fast up the ladder for strike three well that high forcing fast ball it’s become such a staple as a strikeout pitch over the years and what’s so tough as a hitter is that you see it extremely well the problem is the velocity and spin rate just happens to jump by you you expand your zone you don’t stay tall on the backside and you’re really not even able to make contact if you do many times it’s a popup gior in the box here lets that one go for a ball and another ball that one’s spoiled and the count now two and one base is empty one away top half of inning number four swings and misses it’s two and two going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball cut on and lifted in the air he’s there he’s got it and there’s two down up next for the Astros back to the top of the lineup here’s the Astros leadoff man jeremy Pñena one for two to the right side schuman handles throws to first third out and that ends the frame nothing across here this half we’re midway in the fourth it’s the Astros five and the A’s two so a new pitcher out of the bullpen for the Astros Ryan Gusto well he’s struggled quite a bit so this is another opportunity to get on the right track he’s given up more than one hit per any pitch so far this season this is JJ Blade he reached out a walk his first time hey this one in the air center field meyers gets under it puts it away for the out really nice job to get your first out of the ball game now batting catcher now the catcher up to hit willie Macyver macyver in his rookie season 28 years old and he was a ninthround draft pick back in 2018 and a first pitch fast is in for a strike meanwhile activity in the bullpen from Valdez getting loose out there brown getting loose as well one down base is empty and that one is in the dirt and one and one on the corner for a strike next pitch is outside and that’s outside [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out gasted right by him here’s the second baseman Max Schuman he’s already homered in this game and that one pulled foul well that’s where you want to be right there all over that first pitch fast ball just a little too much hook on it straighten that thing out you get to jog around the bases two down nobody on we’re here in the bottom of the fourth go bring him home swing and a ground ball base hit right field oh yeah now batting the designated hitter so the batting order turns over lawrence Butler now at the plate he’s already homerred here in this one that clips the corner you watching the same game up here schuman off of first with two away that one is absolutely belted this one could be trouble and that’s going to roll to the wall coming home he will score a little more backspin on that instead of the top spin he’s jogging around the bases rather than pulling up at second so runner at second two down wilson the next to hit just missed breaking ball misses down and away when the skipper calls down to the bullpen he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs so far not getting what he was hoping for two outs and it is two and one next offering misses down and away tyler Soderstrom in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here man on second two down and that one hammered that’s back gone so he blasts one out the other way and it ties it up it’s 55 [Applause] always scary for a pitcher when a guy can take a fast ball down the middle and hit it to the opposite field no holes in a swing like that and that time that ball was hit hard now the left fielder Tyler Soderstrom for two in this one that one’s in there it’s 0 and one ball game is still tied they can get out of this inning with a tie game [Applause] now batting rightielder man at first and next will be the cleanup hitter Brent Rooker he is struck out and he is walked bats in there strike one and a foul ball good job to fight that one off the pitch that’s off the mark and a count one and two fights it off he’ll see another in the dirt and the count is two and two this has been a rough inning but sometimes you just got to work through it save the rest of that bullpen somehow stop the bleeding foul ball another two- two upcoming eighth pitch of the at coming up swinging a miss that one in the dirt gets to it onto first and it’s in time for the third out so that’ll end the inning the A’s with a two-run blast all even at five apiece you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and we’re back we go to the top of the fifth and now the DH Isak Paredus Nukem back to work that misses the zone and that’s ball one the A’s bullpen has some movement jp Sears preparing to come on if needed lopez also throwing that’s off the mark and it’s two and 0 fast ball for a strike swing and a miss benny really sells the change up with that arm action comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt throw to first in time to get him one away in the strikeout chris as we look back at the pitch sequence he hadn’t seen that curveball at all how tough is it to adjust to something like that with a bunch of break when you haven’t had a look at it yet yeah I mean you’re dialed up for something firm you never want to take a called third strike as a fast ball so you’re going to be a little anxious before you recognize the pitch and right there clearly didn’t see what was coming jose Altuve up to hit here bottom of the zone and a cold strike altuve always seems to be setting records or reaching milestones boo in 2023 he became the fastest player to reach 2,000 career hits 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases in MLB history on the ground and it’s off the bag on the run sends it over to first and very nicely done for the out now that first Christian Walker so two down now and here is Christian Walker right through there for a strike all tied up and we’re in the top of the fifth foul ball still 0 and two strikes got him swinging astros go down one two three and this remains a five ball game and from Valdez into the game and he’s got a big time breaking ball to contend with hitters going to have to pick it up early if they’re going to have any chance nick Curts digs in now first base number 16 that one close rule to ball ball one good spot there but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone next pitch is downstairs up the middle altuve jump throw got him nice play now batting third base so digging in Maxie who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts curve in the dirt struggled a little bit in this one couple of strikeouts earlier but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitters count at 2 and 0 just missed and there’s the automatic that one down the line and that’s just foul that’s ball four tried another sinker but couldn’t find a zone what a battle it’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch and I tell you what he earned that wall next up for the A’s JJ Blade [Applause] hit hard but foul off to the left muny over at first with one away line drive base hit runner holds it second but they’ve got something going on here oh just a nice job coming through in a pretty high leverage spot right there recognize the break on that pitch early and that allowed him to keep his front shoulder in you know it’s easy to bail on those front door breaking balls but a great job right there of letting it travel then unloading a nice balance swing a chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run macgyver up to the plate for the third time as he looks at one down low he’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam and there’s the strike runners at first and second with one gone last half of inning number five close one doesn’t get the call now two balls in a strike swinging a foul out of play swings and hits one in the air out towards right field he’s got it browner tags at second and he’s up to third safely with two gone up next for the second now it’s the second baseman Max Schuman in the dirt nothing happening on the bases though there lefty out of the stretch runners at first and third love how this guy grinds out at bats i mean he’s down there at the bottom of the lineup in the nine hole but he’s worked himself into a really good hitter’s count trying to pick up a two out RBI inside just missed you got this and they’re all loaded up definitely lost the handle during that sequence four pitches for the walk and that last one didn’t even threaten the zone catcher might want to go talk to him two outs bases full next is the designated hitter Lawrence Butler we just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap he’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots there it was a high velocity fastball in the zone i think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter he’s got good stuff pitch inside the zone and trust it two outs bases are full and that one missing low great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two such a better feeling for the hitter two outs swing and a popup foul territory for the catcher and that ends the inning they leave them loaded we’re through five we’re all tied up 55 and welcome back to the ballpark and now Jake Meyers that one inside and it’s one and0 action in the pen down there oswaldo Beo the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening harris a left-hander also throwing just missed and a swing and a miss [Applause] outside low three balls in a strike that one the other way makes the grab one away that swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well i know it didn’t produce a hit but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate so up next Cam Smith and ball one there’s the strike [Applause] and a foul ball base is empty one away and we’re in the top half of the sixth fouls it off still one and two he’s getting the barrel to the ball he’s just got to work on that timing a little bit down and in moved his feet sit him down he swings and hits a fly ball center field and that will fall and after grinding through that at bat he gets the best of him well I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock go ahead run on base so next up for Houston Victor and he dodges that fast ball and the lead runner puts on the brakes at second two consecutive base hits for this team showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn’t get jumpy didn’t try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit first and second one out here’s Mauricio Dubon and the first pitch misses for ball one at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot anything but the inning inning double play boog Smith the lead runner at second keratini at first one gone popped up foul territory behind a play he’s under it has room and he makes the catch got the pitch that he wanted just a little bit quick front shoulder open backside collapsed a little bit and the launch angle not where he needed it to be and stepping in for the Astros Luis Gor that’s in there going one two aboard two outs in the dirt blocked and an excellent job keeping it right there two on two outs [Applause] that one at 95 missed up top and it’s two and two lift got him a beautiful play to end the inning two left on 234 do up in the home half of the sixth we’re all tied up 55 well we go bottom six now it’s the shortstop jacob Wilson and it may be a long shot but a triple here will give him the cycle that’s a strike 0 and one man i mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was next offering is outside activity in the bullpen brian Abrau up and loosening in the pen king getting cranked up as well the shorts stop takes a ball on the ground right side tosses to first and that’s one out as they get the leadoff hitter in the six good fade and sinking action of that change up got that hitter to roll over now Tyler Soderstrom one for three just missed well a mistake right here could untie this ball game if you’re the pitcher out there you just want to be a little more cautious swings and pulls a foul to the right side and a swing and a miss there swings through that one it’s a strikeout oh that slider down and away it’s just kind of a slow death with two strikes you’re looking to protect and halfway to the plate you know you’ve committed and you know you’re going to have no chance of touching it tell you what sometimes you just have to tip your cap brooker stands in with two away as he takes a ball two down nobody on here in the bottom of the six down to the dirt swing and a miss and downstairs and there’s a foul ball chopped out towards short gets it to first and it’s a one two three inning a’s go quickly and quietly there our score holds at five apiece now pitching so out of the pack comes the rightander Oaldoid and something to be aware of the long ball has been a little bit of a problem for him this year so back to the top of the order now here is Jeremy Pñena it’s good speed at the top of the order here you want to get it on see if you can get a stolen base maybe get around the bases and pick up a run just off the inside edge and that catches the low inside corner good fast just missed that one misses so a lead off walk well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn’t offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first go ahead run on base isak Paredus up next for the Astros 0 for three in this one you see the velocity 97 with that fast ball and there’s a base hit throw holds him at second but the go-ahead run now in scoring position and still nobody out always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through it’s just bigger than your own individual stats just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it man sometimes that’s all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole really important at bat coming up now here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve with the go ahead run standing at second here in the top half of inning number seven this one chopped on the ground but foul in the dirt but kept close no movement on the bases one and two the count swing and a high-fly ball right field makes the grab grounder tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out now that first base Christian Walker big spot late in this one and here’s Christian Walker in the infield at the corners don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring that one’s upstairs ball one this is situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended what you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands that’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field squeezes it runner tags for home he’ll score on the sack fly and they take the lead in the seventh sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things keep it simple runner at third less than two outs put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack fly and now the center fielder Jake Meyers swing and a foul back and that’s out of play paradus off of first with two away downing ball here rolls foul battling here as he fouls it away and down on strikes he goes and that is that so one run on one hit no errors and a runner left seventh inning stretch time it’s the Astros six and the A’s five we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh brian King these are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close there’s not much margin for error but at the same time there’s a reason they’re put in these situations kurts in the box now takes strike one well we call that keyholeing even though it’s right there and looks pretty good if he doesn’t love it he’s not going to swing that early in the count strike two hit on the ground up the middle that’s a base hit and the tying run is on base i’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count too good of a pitch to hit right there you have to expand the zone keep that leadoff man off first base now the third baseman Maxy a walk and a pair of strikeouts inside just missed tied him up inside with that one on the ground is short could be two there’s one to Walker and that’s two oh man what a smooth double play that was a thing of beauty from start to finish jj Blade and here is JJ Blade and that one is inside ball one highf fly ball out towards left field way back there and that is gone he muscles that one out the opposite way his second home run of the series and we’re all square it’s 66 that’s their fourth home run of the game they can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one Boo they’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish what an incredible momentum swing on that home run Boo i mean it’s late in the game just barely stayed fair and ties up the ball game impressive stepping in Willie McCyver 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out on the ground to the left and foul ball two down swinging a foul straight back ground ball left side and it goes just fouled pitch misses there and the count one and two that’s a really good take right there slider down and in very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with and a ball in two strikes and he couldn’t hold back he’s rung up on strikes but we’re all tied up thanks to this solo homer and we’re all even now at six apiece back after this on the show ready to begin the eighth and now Cam Smith leading off for the Astros right fielder number 11 back to work just missed the Athletics have some bullpen action edgar Vega Ramos a right-hander with big strikeout stuff is getting it fired up harris warming up as well late on that fast ball it might be time to choke up a little bit get that front foot down early maybe even just spread out he’s really late right now yeah a big swing and a miss really going after him here all fast balls to get ahead in the count next offering upstairs gets a piece and stays alive still two and two after the foul ball got him swinging it’s a strike out tied him up on a fast ball inside tied at six now here is Victor Keratini that one in there across the letters all tied up and we’re in the top of the eighth on the ground right side throws to first in time two up two down here in the top of the eighth well there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there nice job of the pitcher to bear down make the pitch get the ground ball excellent piece of work mauricio Dubon up next for the Astros and that one upstairs ball one up the middle and that chance handled whips it to first on the run on the money nice play nothing doing there for Houston this game remains tied at six brian Abrau gets the ball now he has a great slider with tons of movement max Schuman getting ready to hit max Schum drilled in the air out towards right center hauls it in for the owl now batting now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s Lawrence Butler yeah there’s the strike activity in the bullpen for Houston caleb Ort getting ready to go close but called a ball and now it’s even one and one homeplayed umpire is trying to tighten things up a little bit and strike two a’s looking to put the go-ahead run on base next pitch not close up high swing and a miss struck him out blew the express right by his bat for strike three i love to see guys compete and I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch you see it so well but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity man it is hard to catch up to next up for the A’s Jacob Wilson fast ball for a strike [Applause] that one ripped that’s down one hops off the wall in with a double and the go ahead runs at second with two out and his hot hitting continues they kept him in the yard that time but all he’s doing now is passing the baton and everything seems to get started around this guy here’s the left fielder Tyler Soderstrom intentional walk here with two out they set up a force at any base to end the inning substitution being made at first pinch running here denzel Clark at first base big at bat for Brent Rooker now and there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd right i mean yeah i’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure that one ripped but foul oh this is just part for the course these days huge fast balls coming out of the bullpen in the air right field brings it in and that is the third out of the inning a strand a couple so we’re still tied at six and we’re back new inning getting started here’s the third baseman Luis Gor strike one talk about tying a guy up that was ugly and that’s off the inside edge one and one and there’s a ball definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside really think the outer half is open spoils that one and it remains two and two this to third throws across the diamond and the leadoff man retired here in the ninth now batting short stop Jeremy Pñena and next to hit for Houston Jeremy Pñena line drive and this might be trouble and he’s into second base with one away as the go ahead run well no waiting around right there he was ready to swing it on the first pitch that pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay and a huge opportunity now to grab the lead at this point in the game now the number two hitter Isak Paredus and that’s in for a strike and that’s through there for a strike and the count is 0 and two well if he’s going to do something special right here it’s going to have to happen with two strikes [Music] foul ball still a one and two count caught him looking for the K nice work there to get the strike out and that’s a big second out i’ll tell you this home crowd will be fired up they can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position this is a big moment in this game here’s the second base Jose Altuve right through there for a strike [Applause] the 01 and that drops in for a strike and a bat like this is almost over as it begins in this situation you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be you just got to hope that you can make contact goes down looking a lot of adrenaline we can see it right there and sometimes you just got to let it out that’s an outstanding job of taking that executing and getting out of a tough inning back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth Hunter Brown he’s certainly been one of their better relief pitchers this season the numbers are really solid so they feel great about handing the ball over to him kurts up to bat next lays off for a ball the Astros have some action in their pen josh her the closer of the staff is throwing and they’re swinging a miss just missed and that one fouled off swing and he popped it up and out number one on the grab now batting third base Maxy up next for the A’s just missed and that one is lifted in the air smith pulls it down and he makes the catch and there’s two down now batting center so Marse going with a pinch hitter here luis Rias and this is a big at bat coming boo definitely a little added pressure on him here and that one off the outside edge trying to send this extra innings swang and a miss there’s that change up next offering is in for a strike knocks that one away and we’ll do it again a healthy cut tough pitch at 98 but a really good pass at the ball oh and this one’s blasted high and deep it’s on its way out of here ball game that should put a jolt into this home crowd and the A’s walk it off [Applause] [Music] hitting a walk-off homer is the kind of thing you dream about growing up you’re in the backyard you’re creating the most pressure-p packed scenario and what do you do you come through with the big swing well he was living a childhood moment right there nice swing of the bat nice win for the team one-run game here today your final score 7 to6 the A’s hang on to win it for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show I’m John Shami we’ll see you soon
