One thing Ownership and Kevin should’ve done is made sure this guy never left. Best coach in the NHL. Should’ve extended him and gave him a lot more money to stay.

  1. There is no coach who is best for every team. He clearly didn’t want to be here anymore, so it would not have worked. We have improved every year since he left. Need I go on?

  2. Great coach for sure but absolutely not, it was painfully obvious that he had lost the room sometime during the 2018-2019 season. We needed a new face behind the bench and a new identity as a team.

  3. This is revisionist history. Maurice left while the Jets were at the height of their toxicity in the locker room. We didn’t choose to let him go; he opted to leave himself.

  4. Every coach has an expiry date with a team and he reached it a while before he left.

  5. There is nothing that says we would have had any more success with him at the helm. At the end of the day he was one of the longest running coach’s for a single franchise when he left, and we were hitting a wall looking for answers.

I think we both benefitted from him leaving, as Bones/Arniel have given new life to this team in the past 2 years. We just won the president’s trophy for goodness sake lol.

  6. He lost the room. We just won the President Trophy.

I liked PoMo but moving on was a good move IMHO

  7. Hard no. He’s a good coach but he was well past his True North shelf life when he finally had to call it himself. The Jets would’ve done all the stuff you’re saying if he didn’t resign himself.

  8. Awful take. We needed a new voice, period. I still love PoMo but he knew it was time to move on too.

  9. While they’re at it, Ownership should also lobby the provincial government to reduce taxes on professional athletes and to install a giant green house over Winnipeg to make it less chilly.

PMo lets the players run the room, and we didn’t have Tkachuk et al. running our room.

  10. For Pomo’s burner account. Guy did the Jets so dirty, he knew his heart wasn’t in it anymore, and yes he stayed around.

He’s an effective coach who knows how to get the most out of elite talent for the most part, but there are better coaches out there

  11. If I recall, there were rumors that PoMo had expressed concerns to management prior to 2021 season starting that his heart wasn’t in it anymore.

If anything, mgmt should have replaced him before the season started. That really became a lost year for the Jets that I blame on the organization.

  12. I’m happy for the guy. I don’t think he necessarily wanted to leave. But he left for a reason. For whatever reason the team just didn’t seem to be onside with him anymore. He himself said as much then. I get your disappointment that he couldn’t take the Jets where he’s taken the Panthers, but I don’t think the evidence is there that he *could* have done it here.
