Breaking News: Dallas Stars Trade Mason Marchment to Seattle Kraken

we have breaking news from the NHL We have a trade involving the Dallas Stars trading Mason Marchman We’ll discuss the deal the return and what it means for both clubs coming up next So welcome back to another video here at TopShelf Hockey The Dallas Stars are getting down to business We know they need some cap space in the worst way and they began the exodus from the team to create that They’ve traded forward Mason Marchman to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for two draft picks uh which is a 2026 third round pick and a 2025 fourth round pick Uh Marchment uh making over $4 million Uh obviously was a prime trade candidate final year of his contract Uh obviously you know the Dallas Stars will probably looking to move a few defenseman too like Dumba and Leouchkin Uh we seen earlier today that they signed Matt Duchain uh to a 4-year contract at 4.5 million which is a steal considering he was a point per game player last year Uh but Matt Duchaine also has the luxury of uh getting paid for the Nashville Predators for the next four years as well He’s been able to give Dallas some sweetheart contract signings because of the fact that he’s got bought out of Nashville and has had extra money coming from there So he’s passed that savings on to them He could have certainly resigned you know 78 million bucks I have no doubt But this year he’s still getting I think it’s like $6 million Nashville owes him this year Then he’s getting like 1 and a.5 or 1.6 or something for the next three more years So that helped with that signing uh tremendously But after signing Duchain that leaves them like around 500K in uh in space They want to bring back Jamie Ben uh and they have some other business to take care of as well and they just have no room to do it Uh so we knew that there was going to be a little bit of an exodus on this team A lot of chatter around Jason Robertson I really don’t think that’s their primary preferred thing to do Uh so Marchment was the first one to go I think Dumb Lekin likely be the next I’m surprised that we didn’t see Marchman go to another club He was linked to both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Vancouver Conucks And I have a hard time to believe with you know a guy who can give you 15 20 goals play you know very much a uh you know like a a physical style in-your-face be annoying to play against Um I’m surprised those teams weren’t willing to pay this small of an asking price a third and a fourthrounder Um so yeah so the Kraken pick up a a very useful forward for a short-term contract basically for a couple of mid-round picks All in all I think it’s a pretty good piece of business for Seattle Frees up space in Dallas H and here we go So let me know what other moves you think the Stars are going to make Let me know your thoughts on this from Seattle’s perspective I like it It makes them harder to play against Adds a little bit of offense in the middle of their lineup And like I said he’s not signed super long term so it gives you some flexibility with kind of feeling things out to see where it goes before you consider extending them So yeah let me know your thoughts in the comments We’ll back a little bit later wrapping up a bunch of other news and rumors from around the entire NHL Thanks for watching I’ll catch you next time [Music]
