Noah Dobson Asks For WHOPPING $11 Million Deal | New York Islanders Rumors
you’re listening to Up the Turnpike with host Mitch Anderson Mattal [Music] hello and welcome into Up the Turnpike what is going on matt Ori alongside Mitch Anderson mitch had to hop on and react to a uh report or rumor whatever you want to call it from Frank Saravali today as Noah Dobson asking price $11 million your your take yeah I’m I’m as guilt I’m gonna how do I want to say this i’ve got an initial stance and then like when I think about it stance my initial stance was like that is steep AF and I’m sure I was just like everyone else they had the same thought i’m sure you had the same thing too right like he did what how much initially I was like “Oh hell no.” Like this start calling teams but then after like five seconds of my brain just going there it’s like this is this is a contract negotiation this is how it works he’s going to come in high i come could come in low they’ll settle somewhere in the middle probably and we were texting before we hopped on i am good with paying Noah Dobson in the9.5 million dollar range when you start to get up towards 11 that’s what makes me really uneasy and I understand that the salary cap’s going up because I I know we’re going to get those comments too yes and that’s the thing right what is $11 million in like yesterday’s money type of thing so that that’s the discussion we’ll get into or not even get into but we have to get into for the remainder of this thing but it really the way you framed it is the right way to do it and that’s where I was kind of leading at the beginning as well going like well it is a contract negotiation they have to start somewhere they’re not going to go like okay we want only $8 million because then the team’s going to go okay we’ll give you six and then meet in the middle no and we see this all the time when it comes to um arbitration right whenever there’s an arbitration filing the team said this player wants that and people go like “Oh this guy thinks he’s worth way more than the team how come?” Well because it’s a negotiation as with you at your work you start high and hope you go low or not even work any far Facebook marketplace ad you put out there you’re going at least 50% higher than you’re willing to go in the hopes that it comes down to that amount at the end anyways correct so I’m not I’m not concerned yet i’m not which I know is maybe going against my initial reaction but it’s hard not to have that initial reaction of holy and then you take a beat and you go okay like again if they end up settling on eight by 9 and a half then that’s right around where I expected it to be if this does for whatever reasons like stay stay in firm at 11 i don’t want anything less i think we’re then we’re in crazy town and we could get to those crazy town discussions at that point but that’s not where we are no and I think it’s important to have those discussions now right because Noah Dobson is going to be worth a whole heck of a lot on the trade market which is you know where the Islanders are active right now and and specifically in searching for an extra let’s say top 10 pick at the NHL entry draft in the first round um and so no adoption is is it could be a commodity used to acquire one of those um so you want to get the negotiation done relatively early so you know where you stand when it comes to adoption like if he’s not willing to budge from $1 million which I’m sure he is um then you kind of go like as you’re saying prefacing like well maybe we just got to start talking to teams and getting on the phone because we’re not willing to pay that right and that’s why you’re doing this now and not waiting till like hey let’s get to the draft first and then do that in the two days before NHL free agency begins like you got to which is why we were so if you go back to our videos and you know podcasts and streams earlier it was like the Islanders got to get a GM in here because yes they have the number one pick but you also have to come up with a plan both internal external for your free agents and no adoptions the marquee guy likely to get the biggest contract given out by the Islanders this offseason exactly and like look he didn’t have a good year last year so I I know again we we look at the $11 million but we have to understand that there’s I don’t think there’s any world where Noah Dobson is sitting there going and his not just No adoption but his team of representatives going “We’re getting 11 million and not a dollar less.” He got 39 points last year which is an insane fall off from the 71 points he had the year prior like he knows that he’s not going to get 11 million but it’s to start there right is starting that discussion to get to maybe like a nine maybe $9.5 million AEV which would make sense for a 24 year old defenseman who’s going to get you at least 50 points probably more in a team that is going to push the offense next season right stylistically they’re going to play a little bit different you add Matthew Schaefer to this decor suddenly things look much different right transition game a little better maybe a little bit more offensive juice and we see those numbers I don’t know if he’ll get back to 70 it’d be nice but even if he’s just consistently 50 to 60 points let’s say and playing 22 to 24 minutes a night then like yeah that’s what your essentially your number one guy is going to go for these days absolutely and Metal views him as a part of this group as a part of this core he has said so basically from day one right when when listing out elements of the core like Horvad Barzal Dobson Romanov those were the guys that he said so he’s not looking to lowball him like I’ll give you six and take it or leave it type of thing it’s going to be an honest and earnest conversation between them Dobson and his representatives and so they’re starting at 11 we don’t know what the team is starting at but they’re probably starting somewhere between seven and $8 million and as you said they’re going to work to a number between that probably around the nine to nine and a half range we’ll see yeah that’s likely where this is going to go but again good call out from you saying like this is you got to start this now because they do have the draft coming up in eight days now it’s minutes it seems like or it feels like yeah and this is rumor galore season right like there’s the perfect time between the the NHL regular or postseason just ended with the Florida Panthers winning the cup now everyone is kind of in a frenzy until you get to free agency and the draft so it’s going to be rumors galore for a little bit absolutely until we figure this out but like as you’re saying we need to figure out what the what the number is for Noah Dobson because what what he asks for is going to determine how much we’ve got to play for Romanov Ciplov Holstrom and I don’t know who else Tony D’Angelo probably it it’s all going to factor in that this is the one big domino that needs to fall going forward for everything else to figure out not only just with our free agents but as we said when it comes to what what assets we have at play to acquire what we want to acquire going into the draft and beyond absolutely so we’ll see where this goes but just had to pop on here quick and do a little update for you i’m sure there’ll be more of these style of videos over the next couple weeks as it’s I just said it but rumor galore news galore report galore whatever you want to call it so we’ll be around absolutely throw your what you think no adoption should sign in the comments below both years and AAV let us know what you think absolutely let us know if you’re new subscribe drop us a like before you hop out of here thanks so much for t uh hanging out and tuning in i’m Matt he’s Mitch we will catch you next
The first report on Noah Dobson’s contract negotiations with the New York Islanders is in. The right-shot defenseman is starting discussions at an $11 million AAV. Fair?

I smell Maple Rats droppings! I consume a lot of hockey content, and I remember seeing one of the Maple Leafs' mouthpieces talking about an offer sheet for Dobson, so the Loafs could be looking to make Dobson the new Tavares. Hey, with Marner likely coming off the books, they have to have somebody (beside Tavares) to overpay. So what do the Islanders do? How about trading Dobson to the San Jose Sharks for the number two pick? The Sharks have the cap space. Now the Islanders might have to throw in a sweetener for this to work, which is fine if it is something reasonable. Then the Islanders go Schaefer, then Hagens (or maybe Misa). Overall, this is an early test to see if Darche was the right hire. He can't afford to let Dobson just walk away, because that sets the franchise back light years.
No more the $8, hell you can probably land ekblad for $9 who’s actually proven
at 9.5 mill dobson better become a better defenseman. his defense was questionable last year.
How does this guy deserve a raise? If he is serious about $11 million he's sending a message to the Islanders to trade him. Which I would gladly do and drive him to the airport.
Fans now will not be so upset now when he is traded ! And if Dobson is not traded Darche is officially a Puppet to the Owners
Trade his ass get haggins !!!!
11? That's hilarious.
$11 million is about 11.5% of the cap next season. That's about what Nurse, Hamilton, Jones, etc. got. Considering we're pretty sure the cap is going to continue it's exponential increase, this isn't crazy at all.
So he’s asking to be traded?
Trade him for Toews lol
Noah Dobson can kiss my a$$ lol
He’s not worth 9-9.5. No way. I have a hard time seeing him at 8. Trade him
No way 11 mill for him 9 max if not trade him for Troy Terry and a pick. Or Robertson even up. He can't play defense at all and had a down year.
I say a bridge deal. 6/7 mill X 2 years. His +/- was among the worst on the team at negative 16 this season. He dropped from 70 points to 39. Give 2 consecutive seasons with +- above zero and points above 50 then talk about 10 million range. ( Cap will also be higher in 2 years). Also show some success on the power play.
Wow, $11 million??? Guy doesn't even play D!!!
Not worth 9 mil either. When he learns how to play some actual defense sure
I don’t want Dobson
It’s the new reality with the cap going up to $113 million soon
You need to realize how much the cap is increasing
Dobson is mildly talented, MID tier defensemen with turnover problems and garbage defense. $11M is insanity, but I wouldn't give him $9M unless he wins the Norris. Period. $9M is bonkers for him, regardless of the cap increasing.
Florida didnt have one player making over $10M (Tkchuck, Barkov, Reinhard, Bennett, Bob, etc) but DOBSON is worth $9M hahaha stop it
Trade him for the 4th pick
