MLB LIVE🔴 Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics – Jun 17, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
and welcome into the ballpark happy to have you with us an AL West matchup on the show it’s the Houston Astros taking on the Athletics first pitch coming at you right after the break just about set to go now and pitching in this one for the A’s jacob Lopez chris his strikeout rate this year among the best all time he’s truly one of the elite strikeout pitchers in the league i mean strikeouts per nine off the charts so the opposing team they know they have their work cut out for him anytime they’re facing this guy or a guy like this that’s going to get the swings and misses pretty much in a class of his own when it comes to that category okay all set to go and stepping in for the Astros jeremy Pñena late swing fouled off the lefty fires now fly ball to right center clark on the move he’s got it and there’s the one away now we check out the Astros lineup we could be in for a power showcase today with the wind blowing out a lot of lift and separate chris well we know hitters are in this era definitely trying to hit the ball in the air regardless of the conditions but I think even a little more so there’s margin for error if you can get the ball up in the air so you know you’ll see at times I’m sure with two strikes what looks like a half swing that can get out of the ballpark with a hitter who’s got decent pop yer Diaz stands in now and watches strike one and that one upstairs I got a ball one strike this one in the air kurts drifts towards it they got it for out number two oh that’s a frustrating into the at bat for the hitter right there i mean that pitch was right down the middle i think he got a little too excited came out of his mechanics and instead of driving that ball somewhere he popped it up unfortunate for him altuve a member of the 1,00 hit club and he was born in Venezuela jose Altuve at the plate now that’s ball one two outs base is empty there’s a line drive to left field clark right there to make the grab and that’ll do it one two three go the Astros and the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game it’s Major League Baseball on the show back here with my pal Singi and the right-hander with the good curve ball Lance McCullers’s Jr singi he’s kind of a road warrior yeah I definitely say so you know some guys shrink a little bit on the road they’re so used to just you know having the comforts of being at home and having the fans behind them but this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment so when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes you definitely like your chances away from your home ballpark lawrence Butler leading things off and takes a strike [Music] that one close rule a ball and it’s a ball and a strike definitely a swing and miss slider down and in he finished that really well just couldn’t get him to offer at it that one missing inside three balls first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no panic at all by the hitter very patient showing good discipline now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count right through there for a strike and boy that was the pitch 3-1 you want to be really aggressive on the fast ball swing it a ground ball slings to first one gone bottom half of the first and time now to check out the A’s lineup and one of the most exciting young stars in the sport Lawrence Butler well Boo there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does i mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me i I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not jacob Wilson in the box now no balls in a strike well as a hitter you’re hoping that the command on that sinker doesn’t come until later in the ball game but if that’s how it’s going to Oh that ball got him pretty good out there on the mound the throw is still in time he keeps his composure and they get the out and now the hustle out to check on him that was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee yeah clearly in some real pain but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to it’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue brent Rooker up next for the A’s that’s through there for a strike and that’s off the outside edge and one and one bottom of the zone in a cold stride and misses inside [Applause] swag and a miss struck him out and it’s a three up three down inning and one two three go the A’s scoreless after one and we’re back leading off Christian Walker one of the rare guys at first base that you almost think defense first he is that good with the glove you’re talking about top of the list elite defensive first baseman lopez back to work first baseman are involved in just about every single play so when you have somebody so solid over there uh you can breathe a little easier fouled off he was late the other thing about an elite defensive first baseman like him it it just instills a ton of confidence in those guys playing third and short that have to make those long tough throws at times and he just handles him so well so he really makes the entire infield better with his squad well I think that’s a case of overthinking right there he got three straight fast balls looking in the O2 count just to pour it back vic Keratini at the plate a change up missing ball one you’re not just talking about the ability to pick Chris one of the things about him the range is impressive as he’s able to go to his right and get to those balls in the hole one down base is empty mike Fillmore our played umpire very consistent with his zone chris gets a lot of praise for that he does Boo and I think that with any umpire you really just want them to be consistent fillmore’s a guy that does a good job back there in that way so people around the league really appreciate his consistency basketball for a strike remember Mark Katse was a real good defensive outfielder good instincts not great speed strike three and that’s two in a row oh really went aggressive in with that slider good two strike pitch right there at worst case scenario it’s weak contact in play exactly where he and the catcher wanted it two down base is empty jake Meyers the next to hit first pitch doesn’t find the zone yeah and I figured you would get caut into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night that is true he’s one of those Dave Mccardi Mark Carryon Ricky Henderson types throw left bat right you make a note of those guys cuz it’s just different it’s like well you’re left-handed but you hit right-handed one ball one strike [Music] two down do on to the right side curts takes it to the bag and the Astros put down in order so no runs no hits no errors and no one left now to the bottom of the second we’re tied nothing no nothing we head to the bottom of the second and now Tyler Soderstrom taken high in the draft he’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level all right Tyler let’s go ground ball to the right side and that’s just fouled [Music] [Applause] and that misses one and one just missed with that back door breaking ball if he gets a swing and miss or called strike 02 count instead it’s 1-1 look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat mccullers winds fires battling here as he fouls it away that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was next offering is outside [Applause] smoked in the left base hit so a man on base to start the inning love how he let that ball travel trusted his hands nice job of going the other way max Muny up next for the A’s swing and a miss 0 and one 0 and one i got one ball one strike in the dirt but kept close [Music] nobody out runner at first gets a piece and stays alive one two now and that’s outside ball two foul ball another 2-2 upcoming let’s go to go baby let’s go fights it off you’ll see another five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going head-to-head you can see the crowd they’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet to paint you at second for one to Walker and that’s two for me that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield the first baseman has to get inside create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to first really good job all the way around next up for the A’s Nick Curts and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter 01’s the count second inning here no score on the ground to the left and foul ball two outs out to short and that ends the inning no runs one hit no errors and no one left we play two full no score top half of the third inning here’s the rookie right fielder Cam Smith come on and the first offering a fast ball for a strike well the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count he cannot afford to go deep in the counts doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff so he’s going to have to work efficiently and that’s a little bit high and that’s ball one two-1 and a foul ball and a pop off right side foul territory reaches over the wall and he’s got it ball one no strikes one out base is empty and that’s fouled off the one-1 ball two he got two balls one strike swings through that man he really sells the change up with that arm action and a swing and a miss and he’s registered three Ks in this one really love the pitch sequence right there i’m telling you what pitcher and catcher on the same page right now now it’s Brendan Rogers and that’s in for a strike two down on swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can forget it third home run of the season it’s one- nothing he absolutely crushed that one no doubt about that one Boo we knew it wasn’t coming back so let’s take a closer look inside the numbers that blast from Stackcast 113 mph off the bat Singy and it just flew out of here Boog even if you only heard the ball hit the bat you knew that was a home run i mean he put a perfect swing on it and the numbers back it up so the Houston lineup turns over here’s the Astros leadoff man Jeremy Pñena here’s a high-fly ball out to center clark should have this one he’s got it and that’ll end the inning astros off and running on the solo homer it’s now one- nothing you’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show and welcome back to the ballpark here’s Luis Oas he’s got pop which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field but he can jump you if you make a mistake that one way outside one and0 inside just missed there’s the strike and it’s two and one probably the best one we have seen throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate one strike [Music] that’s a base hit and a good start to the inning oh that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there that’s about as textbook as it gets got his stride and load out of the way early he stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front man that was like he was in the cage hitting off a T and now here’s the A’s catcher Willie Macgyver and that drops in for a strike gets his lead at first with nobody out and that’s through there for a strike and the count is 0 and two two strike spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another [Music] one ball squirts away a little bit no advance good job behind the dish [Applause] and now the count is even way to lay off that push down [Applause] still two and two after the foul ball swing and a miss struck him out one away and he’ll be beating himself up on the way back to the dugout got a pitch to hit and just couldn’t get to it i think that slider really caught way more the plate than it was supposed to next up for the A’s Denzel Clark foul ball there man at first one away [Music] pitch misses there and the count is one and one [Applause] [Applause] that one gets through to center field they get it in quickly so first and second now one out once you get the ball by the pitcher there’s a lot of base hits up the middle even on ground balls so a nice job to use that big hole and get himself ahead now the A’s designated hitter Lawrence Butler rolled out to second in his first at bat down and away for ball one [Music] check swing did he go no he didn’t good spot for the hitter definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch tying run and scoring position here in the last half of the third and another ball that I would expect from this three 0 count you’re taking all the way see if they walk you jacob Wilson in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here there’s the strike [Music] swing and a highf fly ball left field diaz going back on this one he’s got it that’s out number two now batting short stop Jacob Wilson and the batter will be the shortstop jacob Wilson grounded out his first time off it’s early but these attacks can impact the game just as much as they do later here’s a chance to set the tone early for your team and the first pitch misses for ball one two on two outs a swing and a miss and that’s strike one this guy’s got such a good sinker as a hitter you got to look up in the zone if you look down you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt that just misses two and one [Music] and that one is inside brent Worker in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here fouls one away and now three and two definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside i really think the outer half is open cut on and lifted in the air and the inning is over two left on on to inning number four it’s the Astros one and the A’s nothing and we’re back john Shami with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Yiner Diaz let’s go go baby let’s go let’s go go baby let’s go and that’s in there at the knees he’s been very consistent with his command out there on the mound consistently throwing at the knees pretty impressive when a guy can repeat his delivery like this that one ripped left field tattooed and gone that’s one way to quiet the crowd and they tack on to their lead it’s two nothing just an excellent swing all the way around and it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone’s attention got a pitch to drive short to the baseball squared it up and the backspin carried it out of here here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve he’s 0 for one swing and a miss strike one all one’s the count oh this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes even a good pitch early in the at bat if he’s not ready to pull the trigger he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count this ball’s chopped on the ground and they get out for the owl now batting first Christian Walker and now it’s Christian Walker struck out looking at his first at bat he’s a bad bull hitter so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone he still might beat you not an easy out by any means one down base is empty and that one upstairs ball one i got a ball one strike a little out front there as he swings through it one ball two strike that just misses and it’s two and two really good take especially with two strikes and it remains two and two [Music] had a break you ball misses outside swing and a ground ball out to short zips it across and they got him two outs space is empty at the plate is the Astros catcher Victor Keratini struck out swinging his first time ball one no strikes just missed he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout late on that fast ball i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with the fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up missed with a change up three and one now he hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day he’s in danger of walking his first batter right here this one in the air center field clark moving under this one and that’ll do it [Music] one more for the Astros and it comes on this solo homer and it’s two zip you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show bottom of the fourth and now the right fielder Brent Rooker rooker 30 years old now a former first round pick back in 2017 right down to shoot strike one he’s been pitching well but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order we’ll know if he’s got really good stuff in this one or not palls it in and there’s one away that at bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn’t feel like it he hit the ball hard but he doesn’t always work out in your favor sometimes a defender is there to make a play next up for the A’s Tyler Soderstrom and that one wrapped foul and that one missing inside a sharp slider oh I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning anything after that a hitter or two is bonus but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line and a ball even the count [Music] way high the Astros up by two we’re here in the bottom of the fourth outside and that is ball four well a breaking ball in that 3-2 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now just couldn’t find the strike zone man at first with one gone now the third baseman Maxy Strike on the outside it’s 0 and one activity in the bullpen from Valdez the left-hander is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go king getting loose as well [Music] and that’s off the inside edge and the count even one and one just missed sodrom over at first with one away swing and a miss two and two now well and those hitters counts sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that he’s got to get a better pitch to hit [Music] chopped to first walker slings to second over to first well they had the chance of turning two right there but I don’t think he got a good grip on the ball as he tried to transfer from glove to throwing hand they say you can’t assume a double play i begged to differ at the big league level but it’s going to be ruled as a fieldielder’s choice next to hit Nick Curts for one he grounded out in his first at bat and that’s downstairs and outside way to go baby let’s go mccull’s a move to first next offering is in for a strike generally second third time through the lineup you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them looks like he’s doing a nice job of it the 1-1 is fouled off and that one almost got him [Music] two outs on the ground right side rogers handles throws to first eddie has thrown four shut out innings the A’s strand one they trail things here two nothing and welcome back to the ballpark and stepping in is the speedy Jake Meyers [Music] lopez back to work that one side look out [Music] that’s outside all three let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here that one misses so a lead off walk four pitches that’s an easy walk man he could have walked me right there boo the last one wasn’t even close cam Smith getting ready to hit popped out and foul ground first time through on the ground left side six four three and they turn the double play oh man what a smooth double play that was a thing of beauty from start to finish so two down now and here is Mauricio Dubon swanging a ball driven out to center that’s back there that’s not coming back oh muscle to center field it’s 3 nothing that’s their third home run of the game they’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot they thought he could blow a high fast ball by him but he was ready for it look at how quickly he jumped on that pitch so two down so next up for Houston Brendan Rogers he’s already homerred in this game right through there for a strike next offering is in for a strike action in the pen down there mitch Spence getting ready to go sears the lefty warming up as well on the ground to third and it stays fair now ready short stop so digging in Jeremy Pñena for two in this one and first offering is fouled off rogers off of first with two away next offering in there for a strike that is strike two gets a piece there we’ll do it again that one almost got him two strike you got this hammers that one deep left field and forget it second home run of the inning for him and they add a couple more it’s five zip that’s their fourth home run of the game they can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one boo they’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish so Singy this is a little bit of a surprise a guy known for line drives hits going over the fence well if you’re a little too early you’ll get some elevation in the ball get out of the ballpark for him it’s kind of a mistake but you know what when you have such a good approach every now and then you’re going to run into one and here comes Mark Kate as he’s ready to make a change and go to the bullpen jacob Lopez won’t go any further tonight and the home run really bit him today as he exits on the hook for the loss new arm coming on after the break now on the bump Tyler Ferguson and as relievers go he’s not a big strikeout guy he tries to force weak contact so command and execution are huge for him yiner Diaz up next for the Astros he’s already homerred here in this one in there and it’s 0 and one swings through it and that’s a strike out [Music] but two round trippers in this inning the long ball was working and the lead is now 5 nothing it’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound ryan Gusto should be a good first matchup for him here he’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season they’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up here’s the second baseman Luis Rias one for one with a single so far edge of the zone call the strike one you know these athletics need to bring up the quality of their bats and specifically their swings they’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority but it’s just not happening for them so far zero extra base hits in the game so it’s been tough for him to get anything going knocks that one away and we’ll do it again sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have runners in scoring position because they put themselves there [Music] next offering is down low two balls two strikes [Music] just off the inside edge that one called just inside I think and on the mound he’s trying to get a little bit of an explanation doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it though but he clearly thought he clipped the corner towards first walker steps on first for the out now batting catcher Willie Macyver and now the catcher comes up to him willie Macyver his first at bat was a strikeout [Music] and that one is downstairs and that is ball one laser could be troubled now he’ll turn for second and he’ll pull in there with a stand up double he was all over that one anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that’s great work right there could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game one out runner at second next up for the A’s Denzel Clark and he’s already singled in this game inside ball one hey [Music] next offering is fouled back this one in the dirt foul ball another 2-2 upcoming let’s go to baby man at second misses just off the outside edge i think that was a strike caught a break right there pretty good pitch on the outside corner on the ground lays out but he can’t squeeze it no throw and now they have runners at the corners now so the lineup flips over and the batter now Lawrence Butler let’s keep it going that one pushed foul out of play off to the left here’s an opportunity if you’re going to get back in this game you have to take advantage of this situation this feels like their chance he swings and fouls one off [Music] two on one out in the dirt and an excellent job keeping it right there that one 95 to finish him off boo gets talked about a lot but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate having a good grip on the baseball those high fast balls they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate so very difficult to get the barrel on it wilson in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike next pitch is outside macgyver at third clark at first two out of the inning so now one and two one ball two strength [Music] bloop behind second he’s got it and that is out number three a strand a couple it’s 5 nothing and we’re back new inning getting started jose Altuve up to hit here of and a pitch and downstairs well these Astros doing a great job Boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them the numbers say their chase rate or swings at pitches outside the zone is under 25% and I think that’s a big reason why they’re scoring runs the 20 is in for a strike by not chasing out of the zone they’re getting good pitches to hit when you can do that you have a much better chance to square up the baseball and do damage like they have so far this is inside now three and one swing and a highf fly ball deep left field that ball’s carrying pulls it in on the warning track right through there for a strike ball one there that pitch clips the outside corner one and two in the air foul off first curts pulls it down and there’s two gone now that is catcher Victor Keratini two down base is empty now here is Victor Keratini let’s go green baby let’s go that’s outside and that’s ball one two down nobody on and we’re the top half of the sixth and another ball [Music] off the mark there and it’s three and0 there’s the strike two down do on fouled off again and it remains three and two and a foul ball he stays alive ripped on a line to center makes the grab and that’ll end the inning offense held a check there hard in the order 345 coming up it’s the Astros five and the A’s nothing bottom of the sixth inning now it’s the right fielder Brent Rooker brent Rooker swanging a highf fly ball hit the air left center field this one’s got a chance onto the track and he makes the catch well I didn’t think he got it off the bat but the wind made it a lot more interesting than expected nice job of the center fielder puts it all the way back to the warning track man so here’s the cleanup hitter Tyler Soderstrom just base is empty one away here in the bottom of the six swing and a miss threw that fast ball right by him slightly elevated that’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound see if he continues to climb the ladder that misses the zone ball two go baby let’s go and a swing and a miss beat him with a fast ball just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there not much to it and I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say “How’d I miss that?” But you know what happens drive and that should be extra bases around first and hustling for second and they hold him at second maybe this is going to be the moment they start the comeback everything came together for him nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly nick Curts up next for the A’s has grounded out a couple of times in there for strike one two outs and one in scoring position hey an at bat like this is almost over as it begins in this situation you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be you just got to hope that you can make contact swing and a miss struck him out that K is his third of the game and welcome back to the ballpark we go to the top of the seventh now it’s going to be Jake Meyers first pitch and he just misses and that’s in there at the knees and that’s ruled a swing it’s a strike out and now the right fielder Cam Smith fast ball is outside and there’s a ball the only adjustment he needs to make is his target if you aim at the outside corner that slider’s going to end up way off the plate perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it that one is absolutely belted this one’s got a chance and caught on the warning trap typically not easy to go deep to center field but he almost did right there and got a little help from the wind just not enough two outs space is empty and next to hit for Houston Mauricio Dubon and first offering is fouled off [Music] [Music] outside low and a count one and two and it’s fouled off they’ll do it again two outs got it and it could work there as he gets a one two three nothing doing there for Houston but they hold a five nothing lead [Music] ready to go for the last half of the inning digging in Luis Rias we There’s the strike just missed so a foul ball makes it one and two breaking ball misses down and away two two down taps softly to the right side to first and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh willie Macyver willie MacGyver up next for the A’s one for two first pitch misses that’s in there the 1-1 is fouled off the Stros leading by five here in the bottom of the seventh this one lifted in the air left field diaz makes the grab for the second half just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left the other way and it goes just fouled next offering upstairs and that’s outside one strike that’s off the inside corner three and one and that one clips the corner three and two hit on the ground to short pñena sends it to first third out and that ends the frame a’s go quickly and quietly there still looking at that five nothing deficit so a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s Mitch Spence and he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year the numbers stack up with some of the best in the game brendan Rogers digs in now brendan Rogers close one doesn’t get the call and it’s one and0 strikes that’s Baltimore and that’s just foul two balls in a strike here it comes that clips a corner really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door that pitch is devastating spoils that one and it remains two and two and a weak ground ball to the left side slings it across lead off man is out here in the eighth now batting shortstop Jeremy Pñena jeremy Pñena up next for the Astros singing he’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport how difficult is that to do well just look at the back of my bubblegum card you’ll see how hard it is these guys are great man they have the ability to look out there but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch those that can really sharpen things on the outer half those are the ones that become elite base is empty one away and we’re in the top of the eighth swings through that one for strike two clearly is sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can’t fault him for his commitment now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes goes down looking two down base is empty yiner Diaz up next for the Astros that’s in there and that is strike one no inside and that misses off the outside edge next offering is fouled back two down nobody on and a swing and a miss and it’s a one two three inning astros are down quietly as they are unable to add to their five nothing lead back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth brian King 32 appearance lawrence Butler now at the plate 0 for three a fly out a ground out and a strike out lawrence Butler fast for a strike king is what you’re looking for in a good reliever the ball stays in the ballpark it’s so hard to square him up and that is out of play yeah he stays out of the middle and and pitches either at the bottom at the top on the edges and because of that if you do get it in the air it’s usually just a high-fly ball and when it’s down in the zone it’s on the ground and down on strikes one gone here so up next Jacob Wilson 0 for three in this one the emmo for him is contact a guy who’s going to deliver average not a ton of power he’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere well that’s why it’s a team and when you look at a lineup he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate he’s so consistent that the manager basically could look at it like he’s got three outs sitting in his pocket that shortens the game right through there for a strike when he takes the mound you feel like hey this inning is wrapped or this ball game is over he’s just that good and you can see it in opposing hitters as well they know when he comes in pretty much forget about it kind of reminds me of Mariano Rivera foul ball it stays nothing and two [Music] wilson started after it tried to hold up now a look to first and he held back according to Rusty Valentine this to third Dubong two up two down now that is right fielder Brent Rooker next up for the A’s Brent Rooker hit on the ground up the middle that’s a base hit joey gets on base and keeps it going now that leftielder Tyler Soderstroke up next for the A’s fouls one off out of play back to our left he’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in [Music] not close with that one going to count one and two swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes that ends the inning all set to start the ninth in this one so now the Astros designated hitter Jose Altuve spence back to work lifted in the air left field pretty well struck soderstrom on his way over and there’s one down up next for the Astros first base Christian Walker christian Walker the next to hit first pitch doesn’t find the zone hey [Music] the 1-1 is fouled off they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away [Music] stays alive one down base is empty and that’s way high and now it’s three and two battling here as he fouls it away good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat inside and that’s ball four it wasn’t easy but he earned that walk after a long at bat victor Keratini will hit next and that one just misses a ball and no strikes [Music] right through there for a strike walker leads off first with one away check swing now it appeal to third and yes he did that’s a swing according to Kenny Jansen swing and a miss for the strike out couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees for the and stepping in for the Astros Jake Meyers there’s the strike yeah the strike quickly down 02 in the count i think you got to choke up a little bit spread out the feet you don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be got him looking making four strikeouts for him on the bump today so it’s no runs on no hits no errors and a runner left 5 six and seven will lead things off in the bottom of the ninth it’s the Astros five and the A’s nothing back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth caleb Ort on for his 20th appearance of the year and here is Max pitch is in there strike one one’s the count called strike right there well he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an 02 hole he’s going to have to battle hope he gets a mistake so heat there at 98 miles an hour dominating strike out there on just three pitches and that’s what a good power pitcher can do to you if he’s hitting his spots filling up the strike zone sometimes he bats over before it really begins swinging a foul back that’s out of play and now the one on the ground of first walker steps on the bag the A’s down to their final out second base Luis Urias now it’s the second baseman Luis Urias [Music] first pitch swinging boom that’s cheddar baby next offering upstairs two down nobody on here in the last half of inning number nine and there’s a foul ball the A’s down to their final strike you can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball two outs good job to fight that one off that one missed that turns out to be a really good take right there but you don’t want to end this game with a bat on your shoulder that’s inside and the count’s full eighth pitch of the at coming up foul ball and it remains a full count too high that’s ball four that’s a great at bat he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk oh very close with the location right there it’s just tough to get rewarded on the call with pitches near the top of the strike zone here’s the catcher Willie Macgyver one for three ground ball left side and that’s a fair ball boots it and he’ll pull into second with two gone oh that started and ended pretty quickly no messing around right there turned on it nicely definitely a little out in front of the pitch but he didn’t hook around it too much and was able to keep it fair down the line next up for the A’s Denzel Clark right through there for a strike nope ball one one and one and that’s down and away it’s a big opportunity right here but I love the way he’s slowing the game down he’s shrinking his zone making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit and it’s fouled away two on two outs and it remains two and two sends it to center and that’s going to do it and that’ll do it when you win five in a row the confidence just goes to another level and you start to gain this momentum and you think that you’re never going to lose a game again because things are clicking up and down the lineup pitchers are pitching the team is making the plays defensively this is the kind of feeling it’s not going to last all season long but you want to ride it as long as you possibly can perhaps push it up to double digits 5 nothing the final in this one for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show i’m John
