sports Network Midwest honestly right now I’m feeling as good as I have i’m really happy with my stuff um you know obviously as a competitor I would like to nitpick some of my starts and some of the things I’ve been doing but um overall you know it’s been uh you know a little above um you know I guess my standards are high but you know I want to be better at all times but uh right now I’m really happy with my stuff and hoping to put together a nice run i’ll nitpick a little bit here on Fetty as well two things I see one he tends to walk people he’s got to cut down on walks the second thing is he tends to give up early runs he’s allowed 12 runs 11 earned in the first inning across 14 starts this season that’s a 7.07 RA after the first inning he’s good 2.91 ERA 21 earned runs in 65 innings pitched so you got to figure out a way to get off to better starts and the Cardinals certainly could use that today they’re off to a wild start right now in Cincinnati the Twins are playing the Reds and they are clobbering the Reds right now it’s 9 to4 and they’re still in the top of the fourth inning what the heck is going on there the Twins well we’ll tell you exactly so the Twins right just jumped all over him byron Buckton with a home run in the first inning and then the Reds responded in the bottom of the first they were able to get some scoring going themselves on an RBI single by Tyler Stevenson then Spencer Steer with an RBI double and it was two to one Reds cody Clemens the Rockets son hit a home run a two-run shot to make it 3-2 Twins then Buckton with another home run made it four-2 france with a double drove in a run to make it 5-2 jeffers with a double drove in two to make it 7-2 lux hit a home run in the bottom of the third that cut the lead to 74 and now the Twins have added two more in the top of the fourth and it’s 9 to4 Minnesota over Cincinnati who they come in right after this game to St louis to take on the Cardinals for three other games going on right now they’re in the bottom of the fourth no score between the Rockies and Nationals nationals have lost 11 in a row they lost to the Rockies yesterday bottom of the second Yankees lead the Angels 3-2 top of the first no score pirates and Tigers the Cubs and the Brewers will be playing here in just a little bit 120 start for them 110 start for us Cardinals and White Socks when we come back we’ll White Socks about to get started here at 110 just one final thought something to think about but I know we talk a lot about his offensive numbers being in decline but Nolan Aronado is he’s been sneaky good here over the last couple of weeks so on Tuesday night when the Cards open this series against the White Socks he was one for three with a run scored and a walk i still can’t get over that 12 pitch at bat he had in the ninth inning uh in that last series i mean I don’t know it might have unlocked something you you never know you know he had a phenomenal phenomenal at bat there and ultimately what was a loss to the Brewers in Milwaukee cardinals could not push across that last run but what a great at bat that was against McGill but if you look closely at his numbers Aronado over the last 12 games is hitting 349 and has a couple of home runs and seven RBI’s that’s good for him so we’ll see what takes place amber and Total Access on the Cardinals Radio Network powered by baseball and the Cardinal Radio Network powered by Greybar this is Ricky Horton and I’ll be alongside John Rooney he is the voice of the Cardinals mike Claybourne with us as well brian Schulty our producer engineer and we’ve got a good pitching matchup for you in game one shawn Burke and Eric Fetty will be the starters burke 3 and seven with a 4.71 erra he’s one of those young guys big guy 66 240 he’s out of the University of Maryland he was a rookie last year with the White Sox so Eric Fetty will get the start today sunny Gray will be moved back a couple of days he was supposed to start yesterday and Betty will make start number 15 he pitched okay his last time out against Milwaukee but ended up with the loss went five and a third innings giving up only four hits but three runs uh against the Brewers he’s three and six on the season and a 365 RA so Fetty and Burke are going to be the starters and in game one of this series well that’s a good one to recap because the Cardinals did everything right they won 12-2 they absolutely outdefended the White Socks but they also out pitched him and out hit him they beat Shane Smith who was vying to become a all-star in 2025 he’s off to a really good start this year and it was Matthew Liberator with a bounceback start he went six innings giving up just two runs did not walk a batter and struck out four but the Cardinals offense was really the story 12 runs on 13 hits and two of those hits were delivered by the Cardinal designated hitter Ivonne Herrera he drove in four there’s a swing and the ball is hit into short right field it’s going to drop for a hit two runs are going to score it’s a fiveun second inning the Cardinals lead five to one herrera drives in two and has 34 runs batted in here’s Ivon Herrera denied a home run the last time up he swings and lines a hit to left field that’s going to score one with Donovan here comes win and he scores standing a four RBI night for Ivon Herrera the Cardinals lead 8-2 herrera will be in the lineup today he’s up to 315 one of the top hitters in the National League in fact the Cardinals have three hitters over 300 with him and Berles and Donovan who had a big day as well a four hit game for Donovan in game one and we will see him in game two i’ll have the rest of the lineups for you when we come back to Rate Field in Chicago discover a great getaway in historic Union your financial partner for life well let’s go over the lineups here for game one again Oliver Marmal the Cardinal manager we’ll have Mason Win leading off and he will play shortstop ivon Herrera had the four RBI’s in game one he’ll do the catching and bat second and Alec Burles will DH in game one and bat third he’s at 305 wilson Contrarus is the first baseman with Nolan Gorman playing second base and he’s going to be in the fifth spot in front of the other Nolan Nolan Aronado 349 career home runs and he’ll of course play third base lars Dupar is in left field he’ll bat seventh jordan Walker in right and Victor Scott the second who homered off of a uh infielder in game one he will be in center field in bat ninth and the starting lineups are presented by bet 365 and let’s look at the lineup for the Chicago White Sox will Ben Venibal is their manager 42 years old he was a basketball player and a baseball player at Princeton so a very sharp guy and he is uh really come from baseball lineage his father was a longtime big leager as well and here’s his lineup mike Tman will lead off and he will play right field he bats from the left side chase Maid is the shortstop he’ll bat second with Andrew Benendi first time seeing him in this series he’s going to DH and bat third he’s left-handed miguel Vargas their best hitter power-wise so far this year will play third base and eighth cleanup they got him from the Dodgers with Kyle Teal the catcher batting fifth luis Robert Jr will be in center field ryan Nota is the first baseman he bats seventh josh Rojos plays second base and bats eighth and Michael A taylor who’s a very good defender and he showed that in game one and he’ll be in left field and he will bat ninth for the White Sox so it’s Fetty and Burke first pitch inside the clubhouse now the pit and when it’s game time we bring you every single pitch all season long others talk sports live baseball 1041 FM KOX with the Cardinals K eric Betty is going to start today for the Cardinals we’ve got a lot of baseball for you today has just made his way from the bullpen in right center field and he’s going to pitch against his former team from a season ago the Chicago White Socks and with his outing today he will have had the full circuit of facing every team in baseball at least once and he is going to go up against Shawn Burke today the Cardinals dug out is on the first base side they’re wearing their road gray and we’re glad you’re with us for Cardinals baseball here today and as I mentioned we’ve got a lot of it for you a double header today it’s game number 74 first as the Cardinals begin play 38 and 35 the White Socks are 23 and 50 and the White Socks have dropped six straight games cardinals have been well very comfortable and uh used to double headers they’ve had a lot of them this is the sixth double header for the Cardinals they’ve won two of them they’ve split one and they’ve lost one and the White Socks will be playing their first double header today and this is a traditional double header we’ll have kind of a normal time in between games they won’t be uh taking the fans out of the ballpark bringing in new fans this is a straight double header today maybe 30 minutes or so in between games and then we’ll have game two for you here uh right after the game one is completed and again the Cardinals are used to the double headers but they are the third team in the last 40 years to play six double headers by game number 75 that’s unusual they been a ton of DH’s for the uh Cardinals and I don’t mean designated hitters I mean double headers and they will be facing Shawn Burke three and seven here in game one and he is completing his warm-up tosses now as the White Socks have taken the field he’ll deliver our first pitch here today sponsored by Rawlings the official baseball of Major League Baseball and of course today the 19th of June is Junth also known as the Day of Jubilee and that’s uh what they’re promoting it as here at the ballpark here at Rate Field it used to be guaranteed rate field but of course no guarantees anymore no guarantees anymore no and the 19th of June of course very important day that is when the governor of Texas was the final person to say uh that uh we’re going to enforce emancipation proclamation and so this the ending of slavery is marked by the 19th of June 1865 and it became a federal holiday in 2021 the throw goes down to second base we had a nice pregame ceremony here as the crowd is full of Cardinal people here at Rayfield and the ball goes back to the pitcher and he will deliver that first pitch and so will the voice of the Cardinals John Rooney all right Ricky let’s look alive a super duper double dip deep dish Dilly today from the south side of Chicago and Mason W steps in the Cardinals wear their rogue gray uniforms the White Socks the home white penstriped uniforms the pitch to Mason is taken up and in from Shawn Burke and we’re underway 112 76Β° the wind is blowing in from center field at about 6 to 10 mph there’s a high popup going foul on the first base side that’s going to get out of play no play at all for Ryan Nota carlos Torres has the plate here in game one of course you get an extra umpire when you have the uh the uh double header he get the 27th man as well and the Cardinals have Michael McGrevy for that steven Jasinski will be the umpire at first lance Barrett at second and Alonso Marquez the crew chief is at third the next pitch for Mason that’s taken high mason win leading off for the Cardinals two hits in his last 20 at bats he’s four for his last 29 with one run batted in a walk and five runs scored the pitch by Burke a rocket down the left field line foul got past the first ball person but picked by the second ball person that’s why you have a trailer that’s it that’s why they double up there down the lines mason Whim one for five with a double a walk an RBI and he scored two runs in the series opener and the Cardinals won that one going away the pitch outside and win is worked to full count the game brought to you by Budweiser official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball crack open the game with Budweiser enjoy unrivaled flavor and refreshment john Burke 25 years old from Sutton Mass the pitch a swing and there’s a drive down the left field line that’s going foul home run distance on that too mason by the way is hitting .424 in the 10 double header games that he’s played in this season so he kind of likes these double headers right foot near the back line of the batters box looking for another 3-2 pitch from Shawn Burke the kick the right-handers pitch inside mason Works a walk that’s the way our double dip begins here on the south side of Chicago we both noticed before the games going through the stats of their pitcher Shawn Burke that he will walk quite a few batters about about four and a half per nine innings that’s a high high walk rate but you can say the same thing about Eric Betty he’s been up among the National League leaders in walks most of the season 34 walks now to 54 strikeouts in 70 and two/3 for Shawn Burke burke pitching to Ivon Herrera herrera checks his swing and looks at a strike that’s on the inside part of the plate you’d say that Herrera had a pretty good game here on Tuesday i would say so he would have had an even better game had Michael A taylor missed that ball that went over the wall in right field but Taylor caught it and brought it back there’s a smash base hit to left field ivon Herrera’s hit safely in five straight games now with wind stopping at second base first and second nobody out a good start keep it going the White Socks did bring up two relievers for the double header today one of them is the the extra man but they also sent out uh well they didn’t send him out but Adrien Howser is out on paternity leave so they were able to replace him with a pitcher that’s Tyler Gilbert but they also brought up Owen White so a lefty and a righty in their pen so they’re going to be well stocked today and of course the Cardinals as that we mentioned we’ll have Michael McGrevy as the 27th man and he will start game two a mom visit by Kyle Teal where did he go to school i think he went to Virginia he’s coming back behind the plate testing out the pitchcom and it appears to be working you know they sent out Matt Ty who was a catcher they actually traded him to the Rays to bring Teal up and Ty where do you think he went to Virginia what are the odds of that imagine that you’re being very cavalier about those notes i am the pitch on the way berles takes outside ball one alec Burlesen is dhing in game one hitting in the number three spot he’s on a five-game hitting streak how about his month of June 385 with two home runs and seven RBI’s the runners lead at first and second base the pitch by Burke outside took something off that one ball two the thing about Eurles he hits the ball so hard that if he hits it to one of the fielders it’s an easy double play they’re looking for the double play ball alec has grounded into seven of those 26 years old left-handed batter out of East Carolina burke with a double look to second the pitch check swing outside three and0 i have been impressed during this streak of Burley how he is handling the fast ball up it’s incredible how he’s able to stay on top of it and still hit line drives with that pitch if that’s above the letters he can hit that ball hard down the right field line the pitch berles takes ball four outside the bases are loaded nobody out and a walk to win a base hit for Herrera and a free pass for Alec Burles and here’s Wilson Contras contras is 0 for his last seven went 0 for three but two walks a run scored as he stole home and he grounded into a double play in game one of the series on Tuesday night the Cardinals posted a big win against Shane Smith and he’s a good righthander 12-2 was the final the runners lead all the way around now the pitch for Wilson Contreras high for ball one that hole is getting a little bit deeper now for Shawn Burke sure is cardinals are trying to give Eric Fetty a good cushion against his old team the pitch contras takes a hanger of a breaking ball up and in two balls no strikes he has not been throwing quality pitches yet he’s not a big strikeout guy either to be able to get out of it that way now he can get out of it with ground ball double plays but he is not sharp in the early going the two- pitch for Wilson Contrarus with the bases loaded a swing and a miss he didn’t miss by that much in walking Mason win mason worked that walk but he wasn’t close but Burlesen in between Ivon Herrera got a base hit quinn at third Herrera at second Burlesen at first dota plays off the first base bag by a good distance from the stretch burks pitch contras hits that in the air to left field that’s going to be caught by Taylor at third win comes in to score the throw goes to third one- nothing Cardinal wilson Contrus his second sacrifice fly of the season rbi number 46 he got an RBI i think he wanted more than that in that particular at bat but the Cardinals obviously take that happy with it now we’ll see what Nolan Gorman can do he’s been very good lately six out of his last 21 but four runs scored two home runs six RBI’s and he’s been on with four walks compared to five strikeouts that covers his last seven games norman is playing second base batting fifth in game one aronado in the number six spot lars Nar who hit the ball hard but didn’t get any hits on Tuesday is in the number seven spot with two on one out one- nothing Cardinals the pitch slider for a strike corman went 0 for one he got up to the plate once on Tuesday and grounded out batting at 228 28 hits seven doubles a triple four home runs 17 RBI the pitch by Burke a swing and a miss boy I’d like to see the Cardinals get Burke before he figures it out because he is not sharp he’s struggling the slider’s not good the fast ball’s straight i mean he’s not not really at his best right now and the Cardinals should capitalize that on that burke as Gorman 0 and two the pitch to the left-handed batter swung on and missed three pitches and Gorman strikes out so after a walk single and a walk a sacrifice fly a strikeout and or Nolan Aronado will try to get some more out of this for the Cardinals as Nolan is on a sevengame hitting streak nine out of 26 five runs scored a homer four RBI’s over the last seven games he has struck out just once walking two times aronado’s batting 244 398 career doubles 349 career home runs and there’s a drive deep left field and it is caught on the track by Taylor thought for a moment when the ball left the bat that might go but he hit that against the wind the Cardinals manage a run with the White Sox coming to bat in the bottom of the first hi this is Ricky Horton inviting you to travel with Cardinals vac let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field austin taco his 13th and it’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary online and accredited skills-based education learn more at umgc.edu certified to operate in Virginia by SHA cardinals baseball kox eric Fetty came to the Cardinals from the White Socks last year starting against them for the first time in his career his pitch a strike to Mike Tman on the outside part of the plate mike Tachman out of Friend High School in Palatine Illinois in the Chicago area played his college ball at Bradley for the Braves the pitch outside a ball one and one against the Cardinals last year on May the 4th the Cardinals got five earned runs four hits over four and a third they had a homer five walks two strikeouts but Petty did not figure in the decision the pitch high for a ball betty joined the Cardinals at the trade deadline made his first start that was against the Cubs wearing the birds on the bat on August 2nd last year betty’s pitch docman fouls it back to the screen first inning for Eric Betty has been his worst inning he has a RA over seven 7.07 in the first inning we remember several games where he’s kind of gotten off to a bad start and then settled in but be nice for him to put a zero up there quickly and the Cardinals settle into a lead we saw a lot of Tachman with the Chicago Cubs the pitch strike called on the inside corner the third time Tachman has been given the ring up in this series he didn’t like it at all he hasn’t liked any of them i mean he has really not been happy with the umpiring in this series enjoy section taco in the ballpark at section 150 right behind plate locally owned and known around St louis for their west coast style Mexican cuisine as six St louis location check them out at sessiontaco.com strike one to Chase Maid out of San Diego that’s where he played his college ball 23 years old right foot on the back line of the batters box he swings and lines a hit to right played on a hop by Jordan Walker my draft is one out of five in the series now the White Sox have the tying run on Tuesday night the White Sox got the first run and the Cardinals had a fiveun answer that was on the way to a 12-2 win andrew Benendi he was on the AIL May the 5th through the 22nd had a left calf sprain heard against Houston on the fourth batting 235 38 hits nine doubles one triple the pitch to him swung on and miss over the last six games Benendi is three for 20 his three hits double he’s been on with one walk the infield at double play depth that he’s pitched to the left-handed batter that’s a breaking ball low he’s had an interesting career he started off great with Boston that’s where he started five years with them he’s a 269 hitter but one year hit 320 with the Kansas City Royals so he can kind of get streaky seasons and then seasons not so much he’s played with the Royals after Boston then the Yankees now the White Socks the pitch a strike called one ball two strikes on Benendi 30 years old he played college baseball for the Arkansas Razerbacks betty with a runner on takes a look to first a long pause and the pitch benendi gets under this one and a high pop up left side of the infield aronado just down the line from the third base bag makes the catch in fair territory benendi pops out to third nolan just missed hitting home run number 350 didn’t he to end the top of the first inning there two guys on and you know he was vying to become one of a very few people in the game to have 350 career home runs it’s going to come and I I just really thought that might have been it i do think the wind as you mentioned kind of kept that from uh getting out of the ballpark we have the wind blowing in off Lake Michigan today moved to first and just back in safely chase Maid has eight steals in 11 attempts and it would not surprise me to see the Chicago White Socks challenge Betty and the catcher Pereira the Cardinals wanted to look at that pickoff tag and they’re still checking with the video room and play on we do Paris thought they had him and that’s why they looked you know you have to rely on your fielders to to give you a clue is that as to what they see strike out base hit pop out vargas the batters outside for a ball vargas has hit safely in six straight with eight hits over his last 48 games he’s hitting .288 14 doubles a triple 10 home runs and 29 RBI in fact 29 runs with 25 RBI so he has been their best hitter during that stretch a swing and a miss betty took something off that one one ball one strike he He also dropped down a little bit i noticed something sweeper yeah different things in his motion too are a little bit different and he’s swinging a little bit more into his motion to get maybe some velocity but kind of like Miles Michaels a bigger sweeper there and the pitch goes outside for a ball 93 on the fast we’ve seen Miles developed that i think that’s been a good pitch for him i thought Betty was direct going right after batters in Milwaukee on Friday night gave up three runs four hits over five and a third but I like the way he attacked the strike zone the runner goes the pitch is swung on and missed the throw to second one hop and it goes into center field took a hop past Gorman backed up by Mason Win and Maid does not advance gorman whiffed on that one hop throw so Vargas has the tying run in scoring position and he got called again for interference gorman did that what he’s doing is he’s putting his foot inside the bag which they’re calling now and he would have been safe anyway even if the throw would have beaten him midroth off to a lead at second down the stretch betty’s pitch vargas takes outside a ball i believe that happened in Milwaukee last time we saw it and you know that that could be a big deal it isn’t now because he would have been safe anyway vargas hitting safely in six straight betty is being careful with him with the tying run on second the 3-2 pitch vargas swings and just nicked it foul going to the back stop the sun had been peeking behind the clouds shining brightly down on the infield lots of clouds in the area but the sun is peeking through now and Betty didn’t like the baseball thrown into play he gets a new one from the home plate umpire Carlos Corez michael McGrevy against Mike Vassel grievy one and one bassel three and two that’ll take place about 30 35 minutes after game one the pitch outside ball four and Betty wasn’t going to groove one to Vargas with the leadoff single and you can hear the Cardinal fans in the background dude as we have a lot of fans down to our right cardinals dug out again is on the first base side here kind of feels like a home game because of that and also with all of the red that we see in the stands and good for Lars Duke getting that hit franking the 0 for 27 and he hit the ball hard that’s why he got a hit out of it not couldn’t come up with it cleanly jordan Walker is the batter the tall right-handed batter from Georgia takes a swing and misses a first pitch curve ball walker has had safely his last four games five hits in 15 at bats and that covers time before the injured list and then afterward she just returned from the IIL over the weekend in Milwaukee the pitch a swing and a miss 0 and two gorman struck out Victor Scott the second on deck new Bar leaning he’s running the pitch taken for a strike to throw to second a strike him out throw him out double play but stealing two four the second strikeout and Burke will go after Victor Scott the second with nobody on base i kind of like putting the runner in motion there Ricky because it makes the batter bear down yeah unfortunately Jordan took a fast ball basically right down central he must have been looking for an off speed pitch there but he got caught called out on strikes the pitch a swing and a miss by Scott we’ve seen a lot of called third strikes with runners on base on this road trip i mean that was middle middle 94 i mean I’m just not sure what he saw there there’s a ball tapped to the pitcher burke has it underhand the Cardinals are out a single strike them out throw them out double play and a ground out the White Socks come up in the second one- nothing Cardinals here in Missouri we know the important let’s see if we can figure because with the right connection anything is possible that’s life unlimited that’s a spectrum 1041 FM a sweeper strike one called to Luis Robert Jr i was going to say he splits out wide right there’s number 88 like a wide receiver the pitch check swing fast ball up and in he runs one he does last 10 games hitting .265 two doubles a homer and eight runs batted in the pitch to the Chicago center fielder plus right called well the last time Fetty faced one of his old teams he threw a shut out went the distance against the Washington Nationals the pitch outside the sweepers ball to two and two robert Jr the notm and Josh Rojos right-hander against right hand the pitch for Luis Robert Jr swung on and missed got him with a heartbreaking ball that time a cutter or slider one down the second strike out for Egg Fetty and here is Brian Nota this copyrighted broadcast is presented by authority of the St louis Cardinal LLC may not be reproduced or retransmitted in any form and the accounts and descriptions of this game may not be disseminated without the express written consent of the St louis Cardinal brought to you by Brown and Crooppin hey great ball fly ball left field on a half swing by Nota he’s out easily on the play by Nbar remind me never to play Pepper with Ryan cuz all he did was do a little half swing and that ball went 300 ft to left how did that happen here’s Josh Rojas who played with the Seattle Mariners last year he had eight home runs 31 RBI’s it’s a sixth game going headtohead with Betty three out of 12 with a walk and a run batted in left-handed batting infielder Rojos takes a strike and I do like the way Fetty has been attacking the strike zone on the road trip day too it’s been different one- nothing Cardinals we’re in the bottom of the second inning fetty working quickly misses outside one ball one strike for the uninitiated I should explain what Pepper is pepper you’re just hitting a little soft ground ball you’re playing kind of pitch and catch or pitch and hit I should say to a to a batter standing maybe 15 ft away there’s a line drive foul off the screen down the right field line and it’s better to play with several people you have two or three people and you and and so big leaguers don’t ever do that anymore so younger players may not see that i actually think it’s good for hand eye coordination for young players just trying to learn to uh practice that way the one-two pitch outside ball too pepper is also something you use to season your food yeah and you can and I recommend that too i really love pepper so but but I I do think that the the pepper that you play is good for you see the signs around the back stop no pepper game that’s right there’s a high pop up down the left field line long run nar in foul ground makes the catch on the trap rojos fouls out ricky has the third one- nothing Cardinals at the crack of a bat crack open a great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 Baseball trademarks used with permission the woods of the Cardinals 1041 FM cardinal shortstop mason Win is in the leadoff spot here for game one of the double header he leads off the top of the third and takes a strike at the top of the zone he walked in the first inning and scored the game’s only run cardinals with two hits the White Sox with one as the Cardinals will try to add on to that against the right-hander Shawn Burke who had a much better second inning then he misses low to Mason win one and one was able to be uh bailed out a bit although he did strike out Jordan Walker as part of a double play strike him out throw him out as Lars Dupar was thrown out stealing by their catcher Burke into the wind up he’s a big right-hander and it’s fouled off over the Cardinals dug out and out of play very comfortable day today a little on the warm side 76Β° pretty good breeze coming in off the lake though it is and that kept Nolan Aronado from hit his hitting his 350th career home run i think he may say he didn’t hit it on the screws but it looked pretty good so it’s win Herrera and Berles this inning as the pitch is in the dirt blocked on the backhand by catcher Teal so we need a new baseball two balls and two strikes looks like the wind may be shifting a little bit as I look out to Old Glory out center field it seems blowing in from right now kind of more towards uh the left field pole yes the next delivery is taken high so he might walk Mason win again he’s had two walks already and that led to that Cardinal run and the sacrifice fly by Wilson Contrarus rbi number 46 for him next delivery is hit down the right field line that’s got some distance to it backing up is Coachman and he runs out of room and it’s a foul ball only almost home run distance 335 down the right field line here 375 in the right center field gap as well as left center 400 straightaway center and 330 down the left field line and Mason Win almost found the uh seats there beyond the right field wall was sitting here i remember a lot of line drives from our good friend Joe Cy lives in central Missouri going into that bullpen in left field there’s a line drive into the camera well yeah it was good to meet Joe i’d not met him before he was at the ball game last Wednesday in St louis certainly knew of him and you’re going to get a uh unique opportunity coming up here soon we’ll tell everybody about that with the 3-2 delivery coming first and here it is to Mason Win and that’s a called strike three on the outside corner mason not sure about that that’s three strikeouts for Burke but it is the 20th anniversary of the White Socks winning the World Series you’re going to be a part of that celebration coming up here soon and I right before the All-Star game s you’re really looking forward to that they’re playing Arizona and then the Cardinals play Arizona down there after the break i’m looking forward to that party and the one we’re going to have in St louis next year for 06 you get to go to a lot of parties being on those winning teams swinging a foul and that one looks like it caught the home plate umpire what are you looking forward to seeing from that White Sock team for folks that never maybe followed the White Socks much in the American League Cardinal fans maybe but in 2005 who are some guys that from St charles they’re going to unveil a statue of him outside the ballpark on Friday night before the All-Star break but it’s always great to see Mark and to see AJ Pzinski and Paul Kerkco i really enjoyed hanging around with Carl Everett he was their DH that year one strike pitches high so they had a great group and John Garland was an 18game winner they had Cliff B from St louis other St louis dad pitched in the Cardinals organization neil CS one pitch is a little bit high two and one but nobody saw Bobby Jinx coming that closer who had a 100 plus fast ball and about a 94 mph curveball ahead of his time he was to one pitch is fouled back good cut by Herrera and I hear he’s not in good health sorry to hear that just a a wonderful guy some of the coaches I assume will be back azie Gillian and he was manager of that team and I hear that Don Cooper the pitching coach may be coming back for that it’ll be it’ll be a lot of memories and uh the stories well it’s only 20 years ago so they’re probably pretty close to the truth swinging the foul back yeah you hit 30 and 40 and it’s just kind of you can check the video you want to want to look it up so well you’ll have to give my best to Aussie and of course we uh we know the other Aussie very well the the Cardinal Aussie but Azie Guillian was the short stop seems a teammate of yours yeah I do have to give him my bet scott Bednik herrera has a fivegame hitting streak now with his base hit in the first inning a two- two count here and he takes a pitch low and another 3-2 count so the pitch counts getting up for Shawn Burke who works with one out in the top of the third inning strike out of Mason Win to begin the inning berles to bat next but here comes the 3-2 to Herrera and that’s hit in the air in the middle of the infield backing up is the second baseman rojos the former diamond back makes the play and Herrera is retired for route number two 60 Cent Sippers are on at on the run the day after the Cardinal scores six runs swing by on the run to grab your favorite drinks for just 60 cents all season long we’ve got your bases covered it’s on at On the Run we got that drink yesterday after a 12-2 Tuesday night win no six runs yesterday just rained yesterday but the day before we got him there’s a pitch low to Berles who walked on four straight pitches now five straight out of the zone to him hitting 385 as John mentioned in his last 14 games he’s got a fivegame hitting streak of his own next delivery to Burley is a check swing and that’s out of the zone and a 2 and 0 count again cardinals have a very young lineup here today now there’s two guys over 27 years old only two guys over 27 that’s Contrarus and Aronado swinging a foul just off to our left contrarus is 33 and a three-time all-star and Aronado is 34 and a seventime all-star but you’ve got youth beyond that this uh Cardinals team averages 26 years of age this lineup today good young talent on the offensive side as the pitch comes in and popped up by Berles right side this should stay in play dota comes over towards the Cardinals dugout and he makes the play in a one two three inning for Burke and we go to the bottom of the third inning it’s still one- nothing Cardinal off base is coming louis Cardinals based in 1977 and 2024 CY total sales kosman outfielder Michael A taylor leads off the bottom of the third inning against Eric Fetty betty through two innings has allowed just one hit and one walk and he has two strikeouts taylor then the top of the order Tman and Maidra that he goes into the wind and the pitch and that’s a called strike again he seems a little more demonstrative with his wind up to me there’s a little more action going on to uh kind of swing into that windup and get more power behind it he really drives to the plate there’s a bun attempt hopping on it is the catcher Herrera and he throws out Michael A taylor that’s a good play by Ivon Herrera he’s out bunting two three and there’s one out here in the bottom of the third edward Jones is proud to provide big brothers big sisters with unique experiences for mentorship by partnering with the St louis Cardinals edward Jones supporting local communities with a spirit of caring tman struck out looking in the first inning and he takes a strike leading off this at bat he’s hitting 264 coming into play today he averages 4.49 pitches for a bat patient guy then patient with that one not swinging at it in the dirt one and one drop to bat next he has the lone white sock hit Cardinals were just one and two against the white socks last year they’d like to improve on that today outside ball two betty working from the first base side of the rubber delivers that’s a hard hit ground ball right to Gorman who bobbles it picks it up has enough time because it was hit hard and he throws out Cochman for the second out and Maid will bat maidroth was part of that deal for Garrett Crochet with the uh Red Sox and not only getting Maidroth but they also got Kyle Teal in that deal and of course he’s in the lineup today as well fast ball misses high for a ball they also got Braden Montgomery and Wilman Gonzalez from Boston for Crochet i think their main pieces really are the two guys that are in the lineup today teal and Crochet or Maidroth excuse me and Teal and Maidroth has a one andone count the shorts stop today swings and follows one back strike two guy reminds me of uh Brendan Rogers in his swing got kind of the same kind of approach from the right side about the same size of him as him and fouls that one off one and two the count our home plate umpire is Carlos Torres rogers of course playing with the Astros now was with the Rockies for a while and could play going in a foul off to the right just a short compact swing from the right side hydro with two homers and nine RBI looks like a fan messed that one up in the upper row and it came all the way down to the bottom i’m waiting for another foul ball today the one-two delivery is looped into right field that’s going to be a hit took it the other way a little slicing liner off the bat of Myra and he’s two for two and before Ben and Tendy bats for the second time let’s pause for station ID on the Cardinals radio network Contrarus takes the ball high ball one his sacrifice fly back in the first inning is the difference in the game again his RBI was his 46th of the year he leads the Cardinals in that department and he leads off the top of the fourth inning cherish Corman and Aronado next pitch is a called strike from Burke who has settled down unfortunately and that was precisely what I was worried about cardinals had him on the hook in that first inning base is loaded nobody out and he allowed just one run as he now works in the fourth inning and Contraras hits the ball sharply backhanded by Vargas takes a few steps and throws over to Notto very nonchalantly catches that ball at first base for out number one you caught that ball like you played for the Savannah Banana and I hope you have tickets to that by the way at the ballpark at Bush Stadium because that is going to be a blast can’t wait to hear about that from folks I know that are attending that game will be on the road so we won’t see it but it’ll be a show that’s for sure there’s a slider low to Nolan Gorman who struck out in that first inning gorman has four homers 17 RBI’s and has been much shorter to the ball lately much more of a threat I would say the next pitch to him is high for a ball two and0 aronado to bat next lot of baseball ahead today the Cardinals with a one- nothing lead eric Betty’s been good through three against his former team burke the right-hander delivers and that ball is popped foul off to the left and that should get out of play giving chases Vargas and he runs out of room burke from the University of Maryland was a rookie last year and actually did very well at the big league level was 2 and 0 in just four games three of them starts with a 1.42 RA so he has been installed as part of the rotation for the socks next delivery to Gorman is swung on and missed two and two threw that one by him last time out though he wasn’t very good he threw three to two/3 innings gave up seven runs against the Astros orman asked for time and it’s granted next delivery to him is bounce foul to the right side milwaukee has a 5-2 lead over the Cubs that game is in the top of the third inning and that’s right here in Chicago next delivery is a curve ball and it’s strike three as they cut the heart of the plate foreman not looking for that and a strike out for Burke that’s his fourth chile plastering brings your vision to life with expert craftsmanship and attention to detail from flawless interior plastering to stunning cool finishes trust the name that has been proudly serving the St louis area for three generations that is Shilly Plastering well the Cardinals will try to get something going with two outs here in Aronado at the plate slider outside ball one he’ll throw a slider and a curveball we’ve seen that fast ball 94 95 which is well that’s par for the court in 2025 everybody throws that arc next pitch is taken low two pitch is fouled straight back two and one although oh there’s a nice play in the front row of the upper deck moved a little bit to his left had the sunglasses on made a nice play and the fans give him a nice round of applause well done buy that guy a beer two and one on Aronado and the next delivery to him is a little half swing little pepper shot over to the first baseman not who flips to the pitcher and covering that was almost an excuse me swing by Aronado the Cardinals go one two three for the second straight inning we go to the bottom of the fourth inning one- nothing St louis future of baseball takes the field at the 2025 MLB Draft Combine get after 9/11 your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com include autographs photos and so much more don’t miss this once in a-lifetime experience for more information visit cardinals.com/fantasycamp redbird radio eric Betty out for the bottom of the fourth inning trying to keep it one- nothing first pitch is a little bit high I guess ball one to Miguel Vargas who is a threat blocked his first time he has 10 homers 31 RBI’s he is formerly with the Dodgers he was in the trade that Betty came to the Cardinals in as he swings and fouls that one back and the kind of the the general rule of thumb I think on that trade is everybody feels like it worked out for everybody the White Sox are happy to have Vargas and the uh Dodgers are happy to have Tommy Edund and the Cardinals are happy to have Eric Betty so I I feel like generally speaking on a national level people think that was a win-winw win there’s a hard hit ball to left and that’s a win for Vargas a base hit that’s why Betty was playing carefully with Vargas when he walked into the first got a good bat he has really come on after a slow start with the White Socks and he just got the third hit for the White Socks in a game brought to you by Budweiser official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball crack open the game with Budweiser and enjoy unrivaled flavor and refreshment we’ve already told you that tomorrow night’s game starts at 6:15 so make sure you check that have that on your calendar as showing fun and popping foul is Kyle Teal strike one on him and other schedule news for you the game on July 6th here in Chicago has turned into the game of the world so that will not be not be an afternoon game it’ll be an evening game on the That comes at the end of a long three city trip yes and that will be the 6th of July little more travel time for everybody there’s a swing and a line drive to right field that’s going to drop for a hit so Teal showed bunt fouled it off and then decide to get a hit instead so first and second nobody out and now Betty’s got to go to work well Burke has settled in and kept this a one- nothing game since the top of the first inning the White Socks they’ve just been hanging around and here they come he was very off in that first inning with all of his stuff but he’s figured it out and and that’s what you worry about luis Robert Jr struck out his first time tough guy to double up he shows bunt and he bunts it down the third baseline betty has it and he throws him out i’m okay with that i am too the sacrifice one three with Vargas to third and Teal to second although Robert has great power so you know if you’re he’s on your team you want him swinging the bat but he’s also hitting 190 so you can understand why they had him running so he’s going to leave it leave it up to Ryan Not to get the RBI who’s 0 for six as a White Sox looking for his first hit with them he had 16 home runs with the A’s two years ago cardinals playing back with the infielders and there’s a pitch oh a pitch timer violation as the hitter was ready the catcher was ready but the umpire got out of dodge because he was trying to uh go to his watch well it was a ball anyway the pitch he threw but there was no one there to call it so how do we know the one pitch to Nota is swung on and missed one and one boy Betty needs to swing and miss here doesn’t he big time so Nota had that big year with Oakland he’s played with other teams Dodgers Blue Jays all over the place he has but you know he’s capable of hitting the big fly next pitch to him has swung on and missed 0 and2 in his six plate appearances has struck out three times drafted by Toronto traded to the Dodgers the A’s claimed him on waivers so did the Angels then the Angels traded him to Boston May 22nd and claimed off waiverss from Boston on the 13th of June one-two pitch coming up to Nota and there’s a check swing and it’s called inside this missed that inside corner not by much maybe high two and two i’d be tempted to bring the infield in here although the reason you don’t have the infield in is there’s also a runner at second base and if you do that you may be risking two runs instead of one on a ball that gets through a hole the two- two pitch coming up to Nota swung on it and missed he struck him out boy that was an opportunity for the White Socks and Betty came through with a big strikeout nota walks back to the bench and Josh Rojos walks to the plate rohas fly out to left his first time he’s a 244 career hitter played with Seattle but mostly played with the Diamondbacks i thought he was a good player with them first pitch to him is taken high for a ball hitting just 184 this season he’s playing second base today and Betty calls timeout he wants to talk it over with Herrera this is interesting want to make sure they’re going to go after Rojos the right way and Betty has his arm around the catcher usually it’s the other way around is it well it’s still a learning process for Ivon Herrera calling games working with the pitchers he’s not back there that much that that’s a pretty good call there by Fetty I think very smart very smart so they’re get on the same page make sure we remember the scouting reports the same way and Ivonne actually looking at his cheat sheet too which he has on his wrist kind of like the uh quarterback that would have one of those in the NFL the next pitch is high 2 and 0 to Rohan carrera calls for the sign on Pitchcom betty heard it and he agreed and here comes the two- pitch to Rojas and that is lined up the middle owens got it on one hop and a low throw and Curus dig it out rohos is safe and we’re tied at one wind did the hard part getting to the baseball but the throw was low and couldn’t quite dig it out of the dirt and we’ve got a tie ball game p6 plenty of time to get him too and that’s why they’re calling it an E6 the defensive part was good but the throw was low and Rojos would have been out so an unearned run for Eric Betty and now it’s runners at first and third with Michael A taylor rematch of teammates here fast ball swing and a miss they both play together with the Nationals betty and Taylor they were both there for a long time in fact the Rojos reaches on an air he’s a threat to run too not going and the pitch up and in watch out that sweeper didn’t sweep didn’t sweep and he almost hit his former teammate there are times when the ball’s up and in when they mean it and there are times where it’s not it’s a mistake ball that slips out of your hand the grip’s not just quite right one and one the count next delivery to Taylor is swung on and missed rojos very nearly gave the White Socks the lead really good effort by Mason Win to get to the baseball and the throw just a bit low i think C contrarus would like to have another shot at scooping that too he’s been good at doing that but he couldn’t save that run one to one as we play here in the fourth inning taylor at the plate with a one-two pitch coming up and it’s tied two and two and Tman up next well the Cardinals have let the White Socks stay in this game especially their pitcher Shawn Burke next delivery from Fetty is taken high so it’s three and two that means the runner from first will be moving burke has thrown 69 pitches through four innings on the White Sock side and this is pitch number 64 coming up for Fetty the 3-2 pitch is taken high ball four he lost him after being ahead in the count and he’s now loaded the bases for Mike Tman oh that’s a bad spin there cardinals will have the bottom of the order due up in the top of the fifth inning newar Walker and Scott Cardinals bullpen by the way is uh rested of course because they played so well and pitched so well libby did in game one and had the off day yesterday and have the extra man in McGrevy to start game two but the game is well right here at the plate with Tman and a swing and a miss strike one tman has struck out and grounded out and he was trying to do damage with that pitch he does have four homers 13 RBI’s and has hit very well against the Cardinals in his career teal at third Rojos at second Taylor at first Eric Betty facing Tauman the one strike pitch is fouled straight back almost had that line to come up in the booth again well Tachman’s batting 333 against the Cardinals playing in his 21st game he has two homers five doubles eight RBI’s he has walked twice and struck out 10 times betty with the 02 pitch to Tacman here it comes swinging a ground ball to second and Gorman has it he throws wide but Catrus comes off and catches it then goes back and tags the bag well an interesting inning for Contrarus he had to work hard as the White Sox pick up an unearned run off of Eric it’s a great night for baseball this Lars Nbar newbar broke at 0 for 27 with a base hit that was a leadoff hit in the second inning the last base runner the Cardinals have had in this game newbar swings and he sends one foul out of play to our left well we had enough rain yesterday that’s why we’re playing two today that’s some pretty dark clouds out over the lake just beyond the left field wall here on the south side of Chicago nupar swings and he hits a fly ball straightaway center field luis Robert Jr puts up the glove puts it away one out nine straight have been retired by Burke discover the city’s baseball history from minnesota has a 115 lead over the Cincinnati Reds that game’s in the bottom of the eighth inning and the update on the Milwaukee Chicago game on the north side here it’s still 5-2 Milwaukee and how far along are they they are in the bottom of the fourth the pitch outside and low to Jordan Walker but Newar running on a 3-2 pitch walker took a called third strike and then Newar was caught stealing pitch sinks low and in for a ball two and0 on Walker that’s the last action the Cardinals have had nine straight have been retired by Shawn Burke who gave up a walk a single a walk and a sacrifice fly in the first inning there’s a ball that’s driven into left field but over the glove of Taylor taylor lost sight of it walker takes a wide turn at first and goes back to the bag that ball shot out there taylor thought he was going to put up the glove make the catch but he whiffed on it yeah I don’t know if there was a problem with lights or I don’t think it would be the sun from where the angle is for him could be lights as the lights are on here but uh he did whiff on that one we’ll see how they score that one they give it a hit it was blistered off the bat of Jordan Walker that’s for sure boy that shot out there in no time base hit for Walker one out of two and now Victor Scott the second might have been a knuckle ball too that breaks the streak of nine straight batters retired by Burke who works out of the stretch the long pause and the pitch strike one call to Victor scott tapped out to the pitcher his first time up 113 miles an hour off the bat of Jordan Walker that sounded good off the bat too walker takes a lead at first a pitch scott takes strike two and he’s in the hole nothing and two scott has three hits in his last 15 at bats six out of his last 22 with a home run he last night off a position player Vinnie Capra capra pitched the ninth inning or two nights ago was the pitch here by Burke in the dirt one ball two strikes 12 to2 on Tuesday night rain out last night double dip today burke stands behind the rubber a lead over at first for Jordan Walker walker with three steals and five attempts from the stretch a move to first walker just falls back to the bag no tag applied by Ryan not Scott has hitting room in right center field and in the right field corner big gap in between Tman the right fielder and Robert Jr the center fielder the pitch a swing and a miss where Scott has to hit it first the fifth strikeout for Burke love to see and we say this many many many times I’d love to see Victor Scott bunt more but he’s kind of in a bunting slump too the bunting hasn’t been great yet the way this third baseline is manicured here and at the very least he gets Jordan Walker to second base but he’s probably going to get more than that if he just gets the bunt down but he’s just having a hard time doing that mason W 0 for one a walk and a run scored burke with the pitch w takes eye outside ball one thought he had ball four but was called out on strikes in the third and for folks that may be wondering Brendan Donovan not playing game one the idea is he’s just off the injured list didn’t want to play him in both games so he definitely will play in game two the pitch by Burke there’s a big breaking ball the curve catches the inside corner a strike a bit of a hanger if Pahes will catch Michael McGrevy that’s in game two we’re just about to the halfway point of game one a one toone game on the south side here’s Burke with the pitch he offered on a swing on an outside pitch one ball two strikes wind standing deep in the box couldn’t hold up on the expanded breaking ball he’s trying to move Walker off first base burke throws to first and Walker is back safely the Cardinals have three hits singles by Herrera Nbar and Walker now one and two for Mason Win a look to first the kick the pitch swing and a miss win throws the bat away six strikeouts for Shawn Burke halfway through the game tied at one in Chicago raising Canes invites the pitch to Chase Midroth right there strike one maidroth has two of the White Socks four hits vargas and Teal the other two singles an error led to the tying run a pitch taken high but the heat was on with Vargas getting a base hit teal a single a sacrifice bunt and then Josh Rojos put the ball in play he smoked one that Wing got to but he made a low throw for an E6 there’s a drive that’s hit deep to left center field and it’s Newar running it down in front of the wall great route to the ball and Maidroth is denied extra bases i didn’t think Newar was going to get to that one that ball was hit sharply dude had a long way to run because it was absolutely in that gap so he went from his left field position to the gap in deep left center field and caught it running onto the warning track well done i feel a wind shift nice cool breeze blowing in off the lake again here’s the pitch to a left-handed batter and Benendi takes ball one andrew Benendi has been an all-star and a goal glover a pop out to third and a fly ball to center and there’s a fast ball going to the back stop two balls no strikes one down in the fifth cardinals won White Sox one eric Fetty against Shawn Burke in game one petty with pitch number 73 that’s swung on and laced down the right field line going to the corner for extra bases benendi has a double out of it he’s going to go for three and he’s going to make it the throw is too late benenti has four hits in his last 23 at bats three doubles and now a triple his second triple of the year that ball took an odd bounce in the corner as Jordan Walker was trying to run it down allowing Benendi to go from second to third it kind of hit against the side the wall and bounced towards the uh left center field area and then Walker had to run it down so now the Cardinals have to play the infield in here’s Vargas he has one sacrifice fly this year today a walk a single and a run scored the infield is in tight vargas swings and hits a foul ball as we pause first extra base hit of the day off Eric Fetty sets up a go-ahehead run possibility the pitch check swing a little bit high one ball two strikes boy he hit the spot too that’s where Herrera wanted it see if he could get the chase of Vargas he couldn’t really needs a pitch here needs a swing and miss pitch here runner at third with one out the infield in downfield at normal depth new bar off the left field line for Vargas and Fetty uses a disengagement he agreed to the call from Herrera then changed his mind i’m sure that’s what happened as Ivon’s going through with the pitch com again he got the message there now they agree and here we go one ball two strikes on Miguel Vargas the pitch a swing and a shot up the middle a base hit and the White Socks lead two to one vargas is two for two with a walk an RBI number 32 i think Betty wanted to double up on the fast ball and try to fool Vargas and Herrera probably went with the sweeper there and that’s when Betty said “No I want to double up with the fast ball.” And maybe just the the confusion the step off you lost all the momentum with that and unfortunately allowing to go ahead run here here’s Kyle Teal teal is one out of two and the runner breaks for second with a huge jump there’s a fly ball hit another deep center that’s going to be caught by Scott he makes the catch going back to tag second and race to first vargas makes it safely what an enormous jump Vargas had sure did and now Luis Robert Jr is up he’s over one a strikeout and a sacrifice i think he’ll go again vargas with two steals without being caught and Ferris is holding against him robert slightly open stance widespread the pitch ball one outside vargas didn’t run there that doesn’t mean he won’t run now betty takes a look to first base conference holds wide open right side of the infield the pitch robert looks at a strike one and one corman is playing up the middle very deep shortstop for win arnado’s off the line deep at third herrera goes through the signs by way of pitchcom betty out of the stretch so 1-1 pitch here for Robert Jr a swing and a miss an intended with a triple vargas followed with a base hit the White Socks about hit the Cardinals six to3 and lead two to one trying to get even in this series at a game a piece after the Cardinals won Tuesday night 12-2 a big lead for Vargas he’s running huge jump again a ball outside the throw not even close vargas with three steals without being caught robert in the second inning struck out for the 81st time so you can get him to punch out and that’s what Betty needs here with a two- two pick now the White Sox are trying to add on robert with a runner in scoring position vargas a good lead norman’s playing close to the bag the pitch by Fetty outside three balls two strikes on deck ryan Nota betty is at 83 for his pitch count they’re two outs in the fifth inning the 3-2 pitch for Robert Jr strike three call but the White Sox grab the lead we go to the six two to one Chicago 1967 1982 see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field with an oppo taco his 13th run on 1041 FM well it was a tie game and then the White Sox took care of that with a triple and a base hit so the Cardinals are batting in their half of the sixth inning with a timeout taken right before the first pitch by Ivon Herrera and he does that a lot he’s catching today white Sox have a left-hander throwing in their bullpen backing up Shawn Burke burke is at 83 pitches opening up the sixth inning and a strike thrown to Ivon Herrera herrera’s one out of two he popped out to the second baseman Rojos his last time up after a base hit moved Mason Win into scoring position in the first inning cardinals had a golden opportunity to get a bunch of runs in the first boy did they ever there’s a broken bat foul ball on the third baseline he’ll need a new bat that he will more wood for the winter fire right there yeah they could have gotten Burke out in that first inning he was struggling and you know Burke is uh Burke was their number one guy coming out of spring training he made their opening day start and beat the Angels in 2025 burke a 3 and seven record 4.71 ERA here’s the windup the 02 pitch outside one ball two strikes this game in start number 15 for Burke a five and seven major league record 19th game and 16th start the one-two pitch herrera hits it hard into right center that’s a base hit robert over to cut it off holding Herrera to a long leadoff single in the six good start good start now Alec Burles as the Cardinals are trying to answer the Royals scoring in the fourth and the fifth berles is 0 for one with a walk and he fouled out to the first baseman not Alec has hit safely in five straight nine out of his last 23 pulls the bat high out over the plate and Burke with the pitch to the left-handed batter here it comes outside and low ball one turn two with Aussie is back july 21st cardinals fans can turn a double play with Aussie Smith on the field at Bush Stadium go to cardinals.com/ussie where you can learn more and sign up the 10 for Berles in the dirt backhanded by Teal holding on at first base Ivon Herrera i wonder if Ali Marl wouldn’t use Brendan Donovan as a pinch hitter in game one though even though he’s not going to play both games i would I’d love to see him bat if I think he’d be available off the bat yeah I would think so and it kind of a nice weapon to have now a mound visit by Kyle Teal burles went three for five with a home run and two RBI’s in Tuesday night’s game this is not a short mound visit oh from the White Sox catcher Kyle Teal it’s over for now carlos Torres wasn’t hustling out there to break it up either two to one in favor of the Chicago White Socks burles represents the go-ahead run he has hit six home runs driving in 23 burke with the pitch berles and a knee buckler of a curveball right there takes it for a strike now there’s some activity in the Cardinal bullpen the two-1 pitch here for Alec Burles a swing and a miss another curveball he pulled off that one believe that’s Steven Mats for the Cardinals they’ve got a lefty up too they have four left-handers in their bullpen and very soon this will be a bullpen game both starters nearing 90 pitches two and two on Berles the pitch a swing and there’s a high fly ball down the right field line tman on the run by the sidewall he runs out of room no play wind just kept pushing that away from Mike Tman if you’re going to get one out of here today it has to be on a line furles got that one in the air and he is still alive at two balls two strikes herrera let off the six with a base hit he takes his lead over at first the third baseline unguarded here’s Burke from the belt now the pitch a swing and that’s fouled out of play to the left here is on his way back to first after taking off for second getting a lot of breaking balls here in this at bat and you know when you throw a lot of breaking balls in a row we’ve talked about this several times uh over the years you can hang one it’s hard to throw them good four or five times in a row burke checks on first another two- two pitch and Berles hits a foul ball down the left field line out of play another curve ball that breaking ball leaves the ballpark more than any other pitch sure does and it’s the ones you hang when that happens that’s where home runs are thrown according to Brent Brown the Cardinals hitting coach pitch number 95 coming up herrera leads at first draws a throw and no tag he’s nearing his highest total of the season and he did have a game where he threw 97th but he’s at the end of his rope john Burke 25-year-old from Sutton Massachusetts here leads it first another two- two pitch for Alec Burles tap foul pretty good matchup going here between Berles and Burke but to count two balls two strikes the ninth pitch of the at bat coming up burles steps back into the left-handed batters box holds the bat right down on the knob from the stretch the pitch on the way a swing and a foul into our booth that’s the second time I got out of the way too you did a good job of getting out of the way i saw that one coming my goodness gracious thank goodness for doctors Birdie and Brousi we got a magnet on us or something that’s right we got a magnet on us or something hey thanks for the There you go i think Casper bringing the net over here the pitch burles fouls another one back to the screen he said catcher’s interference and it is catcher interference what a break that is so we hadn’t had a foul ball in our booth yet and we’ve had two in this series and we’ve got another game coming up first and second with nobody out berles was pointing at the catcher with that swing a 10 pitch at bat that’s interference and E2 i’m glad your your iPad didn’t get hit or you for that matter mhm or Claves or Ryan or or me we came through just fine here’s Contras a swinging a foul ball back i’m ready now oh good i’m glad you are i thought about protecting it but I just dove to the left instead i saw that but two on nobody out the pitch swing and a miss and Ferris missed a curve ball he’s in the hole no balls two strikes wilson drove in the Cardinal run in the first inning a sacrifice fly scored Mason Win then in the fourth a ground out to third conference in protect mode now with two on nobody out the pitch by Burke a swing and a miss a breaking ball way outside strikes him out that was not one of Wilson’s better at bats seven strikeouts for Burke and that is it we’re going to see the left-hander with Gorman coming up then this pitching change is brought to you by Goodwill give hope give local give goodwill we will be back it’s the final left-handed batter this season in 56 plate appearances gorman’s 0 for two with two strikeouts facing Burke the pitch a strike on the inside corner isert gave up the home run to Alec Burles in game one again they’ve got four lefties in their pen he’s been their best for them the Cardinals have Herrera at second base representing the tying run a check swing and a ball low one ball and one strike on Nolan Gorman a hit for Herrera alec Burlesen reached on catcher’s interference then Contraras struck out the stretch isert the pitch a swing and a ground ball to the first baseman the only play is at first three unassisted on to third herrera but Berles on second for Nolan Aronado that take one of Nolan’s line drive singles we’ve been witnessing lately you bet two to one in favor of the White Socks with the Cardinals batting in the six here’s another mound visit heel the catcher goes out there that’s a long mound visit vargas the third baseman was in on the conversation he gets back to his position maid is playing up the middle rojos he’ll be at the edge of the outfield grass up the middle now Maid is moving over more of a traditional shortstop position playing deep with two outs nolan Aronado has been given an intentional pass to get Delar Newbar and that’s the wise choice but Newbar one out of two today but only two hits in his last 37 at bats and you can afford to do that when you’ve got a guy that has the control that you mentioned he has against the lefty that’s a lefty against lefty matchup yep take your chances with that that Venal wanted so the bases are loaded two outs the pitch to Nbar in the dirt ball one now I mentioned that Isert has not walked a left-handed batter in 56 plate appearances but if there’s anybody he’ll walk it would be this guy it would be Nbar the pitch outside ball two and 0 halfway there boy you’re quick on the draw Arimedes well I did have my calculator open on my phone two and0 on Newar with the bases loaded outside ball three three and0 and Teal requests a new baseball swiping for the ball brandon Iser he leans against the first base side of the rubber but the bases loaded two outs three and 0 on Nbar the kick and the pitch a strike call three and one he missed badly on the first three now on three and one newar is looking for a go pitch here here it is outside ball four we’re tied and that’s the first walk to a left-handed batter this season for Brandon Isert in 57 plate appearances dupar gets an RBI his 29th and he’s been on base two of the three times today now Walker can really put a dent in this game but the base is loaded walker takes strike one right down the middle a change up just floating over the plate one strike the count with the bases full walker swings and misses nothing and two the count furles is the go-ahead run at third aronado at second dard first batters timeout taken by Jordan Walker walker was called out on strikes in the second single to left and left on base in the fifth in the hole here no balls two strikes the runners lead all the way around isert pitches outside a ball one ball two strikes right-handed batter left-handed pitcher from the stretch the one-two pitch walker takes low and away a change up two balls two strikes isert’s 13th pitch coming up here the Cardinals have tied the game they’re looking to take the lead the pitch Walker takes in the dirt and it’s three and two after an 02 count not landing his offspe pitches either the slider to the lefty or the change up to the righty he’s having a hard time throwing him for strikes will he come back with a fast ball here three and two with the bases loaded or stick with that change up that he likes walker took a called third strike with Newar running on three and two in the second the runners go the pitch strike three called again onto the bottom of the six tied at two vacationing is an art and the great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into Sosa who we saw in game one will pinch hit for Ryan Nota who went 0 for two from the left side so now it’s the right-handed batting Lenin Sosa so both managers going to work but the Cardinals going to the bullpen and the White Socks going to the bench a big swing and a foul and that goes out of play off to the right zosa crowding the plate the pitch to him a swing and a miss no balls and two strikes on deck josh Rojos and then Michael A taylor and a batter’s timeout taken when Matz was going into his wind up umpire should not allow that when the pitcher goes into his motion the O2 pitch a swing and a miss as the ball gets away and goes into the stands it went off Herrera and over the screen and Sosa is safe at first base after striking out boy that’s a bad break for the Cardinals as that was an overcooked off speed pitch in the dirt and Herrera did a funny thing trying to block that he really didn’t get his body in front of it he tried to kick it and the ball the ball just ricocheted over his shoulder and over the screen into the seats it was not classic blocking style there by Herrera was not and now the go-ahehead run is at first base and here’s Austin Slater batting for Rojas former San Francisco Giant out of Stanford right-handed batter he swings and taps it foul on a curveball on deck michael A taylor sosa goes back to first base takes a good lead the pitch on the way by Mats and that’s fouled off to the right contras chases that over to the screen gives it a look as that ball’s out of play as we pause for an ID on the Cardinals Network powered by Greybar one Cardinal Way where luxury living meets legacy baseball next level living with worldclass amenities and unparalleled views of Bush Stadium find your new home at 1cardinalway.com koxam St louis ko XFM Hazelwood Mike Claybourne and Ricky Horton i’m John Rooney ryan Schulty is our producer engineer kyle SATA is in the St louis studio there’s another foul off to the right way back in the lower level the count stays nothing and two on pinch hitting Austin Slater rojos went 0 for two reaching on an error by putting the ball in play he was able to tie the game and now it’s Slater batting for Rojos the pitch and that’s strike three call on the inside corner two strikeouts in the inning for Matts yet only one out up on the board because on strike three to Lenin Sosa the ball bounced and went over the screen a wild pitch now we love Ivon Herrera and he’s got a lot of growth ahead of him I’m sure as a catcher as a player he I mean he but he’s great to have around but you can’t allow that to happen with that strike out with a leadoff batter here’s a check swing a strike anyway on the inside corner to Michael A taylor and I say that because as a p from a pitcher’s point of view when you have two strikes you want him to bury that pitch you want him to try to get the swing and miss go to a swing and miss spot he got it done and you trust your catcher to block it the pitch on the way taylor takes a fast ball strike 0 and two the Burke gave up two runs one earned and so did the Cardinal starter Eric Betty the bullpen game now 2-2 bottom of the sixth the pitch low and away a ball one ball two strikes on Michael A taylor taylor was grounded into two double plays he tried to bunt his way on herrera threw him out and the next time up he took a walk the pitch a little bit high not by much that was a strike that was a strike herrera was holding the ball where he caught it through the count matt’s so good at getting that inside corner but he did not get that pitch a look to first the pitch there’s a ball that’s hit well to left field and that ball is gone a two-run homer by Michael A taylor 42 Whiteside that is the second time on this road trip a pitcher for the Cardinals has had strike three followed by a home run and this time it’s against Steven Matz didn’t get the call then made a pitch that Michael Taylor could handle and the Cardinals are going to have to play catchup again now it’s four to two in the bottom of the six with one out the pitch Tman takes a strike tman’s 0 for three twice he is grounded out to Nolan Gorman the Cardinal second baseman the fourth home run of the year for Michael A taylor there’s a swing and a miss 0 and2 on Tman the batter’s timeout taken by the Chicago White Sox right fielders well this is an inning where White Sox are going to get four outs the pitch swing and a miss the third strike out of the inning but only the second out up on the board because Sosa’s strikeout came on a wild pitch and Sosa made first base jace Mroth two hits a stolen base and a fly ball to the warning track in left center field he gets under this one fouling it out of play strike one not very often do you see a four strikeout inning but that could happen here the pitch to Maidroth he fouls that out of play off to the right and he’s 2/3 the way there look at you pick it up on the mat since 1929 Ted Drews has remained steadfast in as Victor Scott couldn’t hold up alonso Marquez deemed that the bat went through the zone so strike one as we play here in the top of the seventh inning it’s 4-2 Chicago next delivery is swung on and missed he just threw that one by Victor and it’s 0 and two vic has had uh two at bats he’s grounded out and struck out the wind and the pitch and he shows bunt and he foul tips it into the catcher’s glove again that’s the third time that that has happened in this week this past week to Victor Scott who’s arguing i think he thinks he may have hit the catcher’s glove but Victor Scott’s going to lose that the Cardinals say “Hold on a minute let us check it.” as Victor still convinced that he did not do that and the Cardinals say play on so Victor is out he was showing bunt and the ball hit his bat and the catcher held on to it greybar is your electrical a dataccom distributor helping the power connector maintain your operation yep Greybar does that first pitch is low ball one to Mason Win first time we’ve seen Taylor in this series he’s a 6-3 right-hander 23 years of age out of LSU they can produce some pitchers swinging a fly ball to right moving over towards the line is Tacman and that’s a quick two outs this inning as Mason Quinn is 0 for three plus a walk today and Ivon Herrera will have to try to get something going with two outs and nobody on just the fifth game for Taylor since his recall and he’s only thrown three in a third innings but he’s getting a pretty important assignment here in the seventh inning of a 4-2 game carrera doing some doctoring on the batting gloves as he approaches home plate must have called timeout to get that extra time kind of supposed to be done with that already by the time you get to that point he’s always just a little late in getting ready to hit herrera does have two hits in this game and he hits that ball hard to straightaway center field backing up is Robert he’s at the wall and makes the catch and bang into the wall herrera almost took that one out to straightaway center but a one two three inning for the Cardinals and we’re going to the seventh inning stretch presented by Spectrum stay in the game with the bottom of the seventh inning steven Max back out for more work swinging a foul off to the left the seventh inning stretch was presented by Spectrum lightning fast speeds and major league reliability so you can stay connected crazy inning for Max last inning where he struck out four batters curveball is a called strike two and you could actually say that of the five batters he faced in a matter of speaking he had them all struck out there was a strikeout wild pitch and a strikeout not called followed by a home run and there’s a line drive to left base hit for Benendi he has hits his last two times up he’s aboard leading off the bottom of the seventh learn in person or online at Mville University they let you decide it’s your education your choice create a personalized learning experience at mville.edu the last time a pitcher in baseball had four strikeouts in an inning was Tyler Glass now and that was on the 7th of July in 2023 well that’s not the last time the last time was Steven Matt’s last inning four strikeouts there’s a off speed pitch high ball one to Miguel Vargas can’t afford to give up any more runs it’s 42 Cardinals the or 4-2 White Sox the Cardinals only have four hits in this game matt set and the pitch to Vargas that’s high both breaking pitches just slipped out of the hand of the Cardinal lefty Mats on deck is Teal the catcher pitch to Vargas is grounded towards third aronado has it to second for one onto first and a double play that was well turned and well played by Aronado to get to it quickly but a good turn at second by Gorman and a big double play for the Cardinals here in the seventh inning 543 so Kyle Teal will bat with two outs and nobody on he’s one for three today the Cardinals will have the middle of the order due up in the eighth inning see if they can get to the White Sox bullpen it’ll be Berles Contrarus and Gorman cardinals running out of chances today as Nats throws strike one to Teal left-handed batting catcher that’s works quickly as he always does the wind and the one strike pitch is outside one and one the Cardinals will be facing a left-hander when they bat in the eighth with a couple lefties do up next pitch is up and in watch out almost hit him and again the Cardinals have Brendan Donovan at their disposal as a pinch hitter that may come into play towards the bottom of the order we’ll see next pitch is taken outside for a ball now it’s three and one mats has had a good season of throwing strikes but he’s behind Teal three and one 3-1 pitch is a called strike three or is that two that’s two he rung him up he rung him up that was strike two let’s Well he rung him up let’s call it three i think he’s just making up for that calling it big last minute top of the zone he called it strike three and it was strike two now it’s 3-2 pitch and now it’s outside and it’s a walk so you go from a guy struck out on a 3-1 pitch mats has had a he’s had some weird stuff happen crazy couple of innings here so to talk about Matts with the strikeouts and walks that is just his fourth walk and he has 38 strikeouts this year so he’s been really good out of the Cardinals pen now facing a righty Luis Robert Jr don’t make a mistake here so the mistake was the change up to Michael A taylor just it just kind of sat there middle of the plate did not reach its intended target which I’m sure was down and away with a little sink to it first pitch to Robert is hit up the middle that’s a base hit so a two out walk followed by a single and the inning’s not over yet sosa will bat for the second time against Steven Mats he struck out the first time and he reached on the wild pitch and will the Cardinals let Matt face the right-handed batting Sosa and I think not ali is asking Herrera to go out and talk with Stephen Matz and talk a long time tell him everything you know about everything von I think that was the sign Ali just gave him because they’re trying to let the right-hander get loose in the Cardinals pen who I think we’ll see and I believe that’s Breno nine hits already for the White Sox and they say he’s ready so Ali is out of the dugout he does not want Sosa to face Matt for a second time so we will have a pitching change is brought to you by Missouri Farmers Care feeding Cardinal fans across the nation we’ll be right back it’s the final days of Ford’s employee right-hander Andre Greno takes over for Steven Mats he’s 25 years old 64 250 from Cal Riverside and he inherits two runners aboard needs to get the man at the plate and that is Lenin Sosa who did not start this game but came in last inning and scored a run first pitch to him is in the dirt and it’s squirts away from Herrera and advancing to third is Teal again a ball that he should have been able to block i’m sure that will go as a wild pitch though to Grineo and now the pressure is on Herrera even more here with a runner at third base 4-2 is the score grine has pitched twice for the Cardinals and has not given up a run yet three and two/3 innings and he’s trying to save these inherited runners for Steven Max was charged with two runs but two runners are still aboard geno delivers the runner goes and that’s in the dirt and it’s blocked by Herrera but a stolen base for Luis Roberts Jr his 22nd and that is the third stolen base of this game for Chicago runners at second and third and Breno just needs to get the batter with Nick Capra up next two pitch is a called strike to Sosa greno had good numbers in Triple A and that’s why he was called up very good numbers needs a pitch here two and one the count and it’s on its way and it’s hit in the air to center field it’s going to stay in the ballpark and it’s going to be out number three if Dick catches it which he does so the White Socks do not score in the seventh we go to the eighth john will have the playbyplay for you as the Cardinals trail this one four to2 let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term game after 911 your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com not only a plea a paycheck but a very important sense of purpose your donations really do change lives give hope give local give goodwill red two of the three batters right out of the gate here in the eighth they’re left-handed hitters so the White Sox go to the bullpen for lefty Cam Booer booer a one and three record of 4.5 burles will face him a walk a foul out burles was on with catcher interference so he’s 0 for one today the Cardinals trail 4-2 batting in the eighth booers pitch a swing and a miss big sweeper on the first pitch from the Chicago lefthander contus on deck and then Nolan Gorman there’s another breaking ball check swing and it’s a strike called by Alonso Marquez that looked like a check swing 0 and2 on Berles lucer with the long pause the pitch and the ball is slapped into center field a base hit on an 02 pitch how about that came back with another sweeper what what a great approach by Alec Burles he kept his hands back and just kind of punched that right through the box well done on an 02 pit that is slugging the first two and then hitting with two strikes that approach well it works a six-game hitting streak for Burles he has 10 hits in his last 24 at bats during the streak now Wilson Contrarus he has a sacrifice fly to his credit today burles leads at first booster gives him a look the left-hander pitch is swung on and a high fly deep left field it’s a goner a goner for Contraos tying the game at four well that didn’t take long here in the eighth did it base hit home run contrarus has three RBI’s today now 48 that was his team leading 10th home run and a huge home run here in the eighth inning contras touch his own plate the White Sox fans boo him to his delight wilson Contrus goes yard nobody out now it’s Gorman Aronado and Nbar against Booer michael A taylor hit a two-run homer to give the White Sox the lead contras has tied it up there’s a pitch outside a fast ball at 96 from Booster ball one to Gorman gorman has struck out twice and grounded out they grounded out facing Isert the last time up check swing sweeper outside well this is going to change what the Cardinals do with their bullpen the last couple innings too now that they’ve gotten even with Chicago and hoping for more the pitch to Gorman a swing and a miss he pulled off the breaking ball believe that’s Mton we can’t quite see through the way the fencing is here but I believe that’s Mton getting loose for the Cardinals two and one on Gorman when he makes contact he packs a wall up the pitch and he taps that one toward the pitcher booster gets to it turns around and throws it away packed up by the second baseman Sosa he just threw a lollipop over there somewhere over the rainbow with Dorothy and Toto and the whole crew oh my goodness i couldn’t believe that i mean he couldn’t have been more than what 20 feet away from the first baseman and literally just lobbed it way over his head i mean you’re talking about a pitcher that throws the ball on a corner but couldn’t just have a lob throw to first base really that’s why pitchers are being taught John to underhand the ball run to the bag and underhand it because there are a lot of times pitchers are better at throwing get up on that front foot let it sail well you can throw hard but throwing soft is a different matter single home run error on what should have been out number one and here’s Nolan Aronado oh you got to make that hurt nolan after his 350th major league home run booster has to be spinning now with that gorman over at first base and Sosa was where he was supposed to be or the runner would have been at second gorman takes his lead aronado looks at strike one oh for a hanger here for Nolan Aronado aronado twirls the bat rocks it back and forth looser the left-hander checks on first and pitches foul ball off the screen above the Cardinal dugout friday night live at Bush Stadium that’s coming up tomorrow night the hottest happy hour in the L joy happy hour price ballpark eats and drinks every Friday night home game throughout the entire game for details visit cardinals.com/fr and it’s a 615 game tomorrow aronado hits one foul into the White Sox dugout want to go back to the four strikeout inning of Steven Matz the last time a Cardinal pitcher struck out four batters in an inning it was Bob Gibson in 1966 that’s 59 years ago he did that on the 7th of June we’re tied at four top of the eighth nobody out runner at first aronado another foul ball over to the camera well next to the White Sox dugout nolan hit a fly ball to the warning track in left field for an out in the first inning grounded out first base to the pitcher covering was given an intentional walk and was left on base when the Cardinals left the bases loaded in the sixth the O2 Aronado pops this one into short center field and that is going to be played by the shortstop maid drop falling off Luis Robert Jr before New Bats let’s pause here for a station ID on the Cardinals network powered by Greybar proficient is a global digital consulting leader and a proud Cardinal partner a true St louis success intentional walk to Arnado to load the bases nupar took a walk to force in a run booster from the stretch the pitch nar looks at a strike unneeded runs have been part of this game each team has one the Cardinals a chance to get another one here with Gorman the runner at first base and that would give them the lead if they could get him across a single by Bernson a home run by Contras and we’re tied at four runner at first one out dorman leads there the pitch outside a check swing by Nbar one ball two strikes a right-hander is warming in the bullpen in fact a righty and a lefty now for the White Socks the Cardinals have a right-hander throwing in their pin booer pitches outside with a breaking ball that was his 17th pitch of the inning i’m sure they will not let Booer face I’m not sure but I don’t think they’ll let him face Jordan Walker if we get to that a lead at first for Gorman looser on two and two for Lars Newbar in the dirt and the ball gets away from the catcher teal down to second the go-ahead run gorman wild pitches catcher interference we’ve had a lot we’ve had a little bit of everything haven’t we yes we have errors the go-ahehead run is Gorman at second base after reaching on a lob throwing error by Cam Booer the 3-2 pitch here for Lars Nukebar and he takes ball four inside two on with one out for Jordan Walker newar at first and Gorman at second walker is coming up walker’s expecting a pitching change here he’s actually looking towards the uh White Sox dugout walker’s going to be facing the lefthander he is because the pitching coach is on his way out there cats comes running out of the dugout how about that we remind the fans that tomorrow night’s game is a 6:15 start there’s a postgame concert so a 615 start going to be a wild fun night at Bush Stadium with the Cardinals returning to play the Cincinnati Reds after the Reds and the Cardinals play three over the weekend the Cubs are in town then the Cardinals go on the road they’ll be playing in Cleveland Pittsburgh and back here in Chicago against the Cubs and they’re so fortunate to be able to play that Sunday night game at the end of the three road trip it’ll be fun oh it will always is on the north side on the at the shrine on the north side i do have a question who’s the right-hander up for if not Jordan Walker walker is up but two on the pitch walker swings and it’s a high fly ball deep left center field and it is caught by the center fielder Robert tagging at second and going to third Nolan Gorman walker came so close to airing that one out i thought that one had a chance off the bat he hit that ball to deep left center field robert good center fielder went a long way to get it caught it right up against the wall and Gorman very alertly going to third base now another wild pitch and we’ve had several of them and the well the right-handed is up for Po joel Poso is going to bat for Victor Scott the second there you go that’s the answer so we are waiting for Will Venibal to make the step up the dugout or will he runners at first and third for the Cardinals in a tie game at four top half of the eighth no move toward the mound by Will Venal he’s still seated next to the screen there in the third base dugout so here is Po batting for Scott who’s 0 for three with two strikeouts today so if you take out the left the reason they don’t want the rightander is because they don’t want to face Donovan i don’t blame him for that here’s Po joel takes all one low well this guy can put the ball in play with authority batting 286 two home runs six RBI’s through 63 at bats he has played in the big leagues with the Rangers and now the Cardinals one more wild pitch please booer with the pitch ozo takes low ball two gorman reached on an air he’s over at third newar is the runner at first 4-4 our score in the eighth now the pitch to Poso check swing ball three high and outside mason Win is on deck ozo all spread out the right-handed batters box looser with the three 0 pitch and here it is for the Cardinal pinch hitter and that’s taken for a strike on the inside corner three and one number 63 Joel Poso booer has thrown 24 pitches this inning number 25 is on the way poso chops it toward third and it’s a foul ball three and two meaning will be running from first base with Gorman looking on with interest over at third a single by Berles and a home run by Wilson Contrarus tied the game here in the top of the eighth then Gorman reached on a throwing error by the pitcher aronado popped out nupar walked walker hit one to the track in left center for a long out the 3-2 pitch with the runner going this is popped up foul out of play down the left field line that’s going to go to the section just to our left up to the mezzanine section joel Poso batting for Victor Scott II looking to straighten one out here against Cam Booer booer from the stretch the runner goes at first the pitch is swung on line to left a base hit and the Cardinals lead the air turns into a run as Gorman crosses the plate on the pinch hit RBI single by Joe Alposo first and second two outs and now venable will make the pitching change as Mason win is coming up this kax Benny Capra leads off for the Chicago White Socks in the bottom of the eighth inning and he takes a strike from Phil Maton monton facing 89 and one in the order but the Cardinals up by a run they got the line moving and had a little help big error by the pitcher and there’s a line drive foul down the left field line that was on the sweeper from Mton it was up and Capra hit it just fouled the Cardinals put up three in the eighth inning two on a home run by Wilson Contrarus and quite an at bat on an 02 pitch for Alec Burlesen to just get the bat head out and single up the middle getting on for Contraras the pitch to Capra he gets under this one and pops it into short right field jordan Walker was playing in to begin with wearing the sunglasses he puts it away one out i’m trying to figure out why Pedro Pahes was in the on deck circle mason Win was at the plate in the eighth inning and Pahes was in the on deck circle i understand why Pahes who was in the game yes would come in for the last couple of innings just for defensive reasons but why would he pinch hit for Herrera unless the Cardinals were just trying to make it seem that that’s what they were going to do i have a feeling that’s what was up and they would have used Donovan instead a foul ball that goes out of play off to the right off the bat of Michael A taylor taylor gave the White Sox a two-run lead with a today he takes outside hey Tom was not going to make a mistake on own two there but three strikes uh wasn’t enough one time in this game no it wasn’t not with Taylor batting then he hit a home run on an offspe pitch a foul ball that goes over the screen for many years after this park opened in the early 90s the screen went from the top of the back stop all the way up to our level here at the broadcast level the pitch a curve ball that doesn’t curve enough and Taylor gets out of the way two and two thought they took that away so the fans could have some more souvenirs good crowd on hand for this one today the first of two on the south side of Chicago the pitch swing and a miss taylor strikes out on the curveball what is it with the rotation on the curve and the sweeper for Monton that gets so many swings and misses well he’s got great spin on it number one but I just think it’s the late break too i mean it’s going across two different planes it’s mostly going horizontally not vertically but guys see it come right at their shoulder it’s his release point too be kind of a little bit lower you know when you drop down just a little bit so it’s coming at your front shoulder and it’s the magnitude of the break but it’s also the lateness of the break ball one goes inside a cut fast ball that time from Phil M to Mike Tachman tachman is 0 for four today 0 for seven in the series striking out four times he’s the leadoff batter today swings and misses a high sweeper boy Mton’s been good hasn’t he he has the strikeouts he maneuvered in the Cardinal win last Saturday in Milwaukee that was at a do or die moment for the Cardinals in that game here’s a swing and a high fly ball left field nar he’s there he has it one two three go the White Sox we go to the ninth game one of our double header with the Cardinals leading 5-4 this is Brennan Donovan i’ve teamed up with Amaran to It’s a great night for baseball this matchup features some of the best talent in the game a lot of power a lot of marquee names here we go buckle up folks there’s a guy you want to be in spot the bats have come alive we’re just playing Powerball this place doesn’t know what these teams are entertaining the show continues experience gametoame coverage of the night’s biggest moments live and commercial free mlb Network Strike Zone Wednesday and Friday nights all season take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the score of three to two and a home run by the Wizards the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com will include a local agent doesn’t actually say can we create a customized plan that fits our needs let’s just call the local shelter agent for insurance that fits just right find a shelter agent near you see shelter agent Brent Brandsteader in Bowling Green dave Keane in Bowwin for Natalie Graham in St louis today the C on 1041 FM pedro Pes he comes out to face Steven Wilson we’re in the ninth inning ice batting in Herrera’s spot the pitch a swing and a miss ice came on to catch replacing Herrera the bottom half of the eighth inning he steps in there against Wilson with Burles to follow and then Contraras the one strike pitch here it is swing and a miss that breaking ball that sweeper had a little more bite to it at the end and Pedro is in the hole no balls two strikes coming in batting 216 with five home runs and 22 RBI’s big college ball at Florida Atlantic pulls the bat down on the knob wilson with the pitch a fouls it back that almost picked off Burlesson watch out Alex he was startled by that wasn’t he now he’s moving over towards the Cardinals dugout yeah he gets away from that on deck circle ellley getting loose for the Cardinals barring a big top of the ninth for the Cardinals we’ll see him in the bottom of the ninth the one- run lead 5-4 Cardinals top of the ninth wilson Tahes upstairs nice grab by Teal leaping to catch it he got out on his front foot on that one and just overcooked it and that makes me think of the essentially one of the plays of the game when their pitcher Cam Boozer got out on his front foot on a throw to first base and airmailed it with Gorman at the plate that’s the difference in the game right now the pitch on the way for Pah swing and a miss a sweeper strikes him out one out in the ninth inning here’s Alec Berles burles has been on with a walk and catcher interference he has fouled out singled and scored one for two in this one he’s four out of seven in the series a home run two runs scored two RBI’s and he’s facing a right-hander and Steven Wilson the pitch to Berles downstairs for a ball wilson is another one of those guys who likes to use up most of the pitch time he’ll wait till it gets down to three two seconds and then start his motion whatever he’s doing is working he’s having a good year for the White Socks the pitch to Burles a swing and a broken bat line drive to right tauman can’t catch it berles takes the turn at first and he’ll hold on coachman tried to make a diving play but the ball went off his glove that’s a two-hit game for Berles that bat had one more hit left there’s more wood for the winter fire now Wilson Contraras the former Cub coming to bat much to the delight of the White Sox fans here on the south side and Wilson savored that trip around the bases after hitting his 10th home run of the year that tied the game in the eighth catch probability on that was 65% yeah I just think he got a bad jump on that i do too and didn’t quite close on it very well either but I think the the awkward swing is the part of the reason why which is hard to really put a number on that wilson with a pitch timer down to three he deals ball one low you can’t always tell that the bat is broken if you’re playing right field we hear it and we hear it on our effects mics and you know you can kind of tell I think but but you know right field’s a long way from home plate and the way Berles was running I think that 65% catch probability is right the pitch taking high ball too i don’t think Berles could have made second oh no no no but he wasn’t in an allout sprint to first base and then he picked it up when he thought I might be able to move up but Tman recovered and kept Purdles at first base goes down as a hit the Cardinals have been out hit 98 but lead 54 in the ninth with one out wilson pitches to Contras that looked like a strike called a ball three and 0 on Wilson Contras facing Steven Wilson we have W I Lo N facing W I L LS O N Contraras Contreres he likes it he’ll cut loose the pitch at his head and he goes down in the box taking ball four a head high fast ball puts Contras on base goes down to second Wilson’s on base for the second time today almost feels like all baseball is throwing at Wilson Contrarus he’s been hit 11 times he has and on a three- 0 pitch he’s he’s thinking I’m going to just air one out on a pitch if it’s down the middle of the plate he’s not thinking about it being under his chin but that’s where it was you talk about a time to put some distance between yourself and your opponent it could happen on one swing here by Nolan Gorman two on one out steven Wilson from the belt the kick the pitch strike one white Sox relievers have not thrown many fast balls sweepers gutters few change ups and an occasional fast ball the one strike pitch the runners oh they were going to take off wilson Contrarus was way off first base i don’t know what happened with Burlesen at second they had the tell on Steven Wilson but Berles stopped about 10 ft away from second base toward third oh they had they had the base stolen they had the double steel in their back pocket wilson Contreros was about halfway to second and had to scramble back when Teal had to scramble for the ball that got away from him about three or four feet one ball one strike a look to second now the pitch swing and a miss gorman pulled off that pitch almost as if Burley didn’t trust it you know he maybe he had the same tell i mean the the lead guy’s got to have the tell first and the other guy follows the lead runner but Contrarus was totally convinced that Burley was going to take off there the one-two pitch with one out here it is for Gorman a swing and there’s a fly ball right center field tauman closing in on this one he slides makes the catch burlesen gets back to second if they had the double steel that would have been a run sure would have but two outs nolan Aronado is up right-hander against right-hander field steps out in front of the plate goes through some signals for the infielders and relays a sign with pitchcom to his pitcher Steven Wilson over at first Wilson Contrus alec Berles is the runner at second two outs the Cardinals lead by one ellie is ready in the Cardinal bullpen for the bottom of the ninth the pitch Arnonado takes outside a sweeper backhanded by Teal the Cardinals scored three in the eighth to go up 5-4 we’re in the ninth inning two on two outs here’s Wilson from the stretch and going back to second base a step off by Wilson eurles gets back there without a throw newar is waiting on deck sosa is trying to move over to shorten the lead of Berles at second base aronado is looking for his first hit today he takes outside two balls no strikes wilson has thrown 19 pitches getting the last out of the eighth inning mason went on a fly out to center and two outs a strike out a fly out with a single and a walk in between the two for Nolan Aronado foul ball out of play to the right when the White Socks bat in the ninth inning Hydroth Benendi Vargas two three and four in the lineup will be up the stretch steven Wilson he looks to second now the pitch Aronado drives that one left field that’s it down the line and it goes foul that’s patented Nolan Aronado foul ball it sure is just out in front of it two balls two strikes two on two outs in the second game of our double header we’re looking at Michael McGrevy one and one against Mike Vassel three and two about 30 minutes in between games matt Bali will have our postgame and the pregame leading to that one the two- two pitch aronado checks a swing a foul ball over to the screen in front of the Cardinal dugout that was up and in on him and in self-defense Aronado fouled the pitch away 5-4 Cardinals two outs two on top half of the night the Cardinals won 12 to2 on Tuesday they’ve come back in this from being 4-2 down the two- two pitch with two on two outs aronado swings fouling it straight back he was on that pitch now Wilson is over 22 pitches he’s at 23 in this stand out of the bullpen sean Burke gave up two runs one earned over five and a third brandon Isert twothirds of an inning coming in in the sixth grant Taylor came in in the seventh booer gave up three runs two earned on two/3 of the eighth inning wilson got the last out and Wilson is pitching the ninth the two- two pitch another one for Nolan Aronado here it comes a swing and a miss the Cardinals ran two let’s hold him and get ready for game two of the double header ryan Helysey is coming in with the White Sox coming up in the bottom of the ninth the Cardinals lead by four feel the magic with you off base is coming in a brand new format join Lauren Gardner and Midroth their number two hitter has two hits and four bats the right-handed batter takes high ball one 97 on the first pitch fast ball pelsley is 3 and 0 3.96 erra his 26th game the right-handers pitch hydra checks his swing taking low and on the appeal it’s a strike steven Jchensky the call up umpire for the double header brings up strike one one and one ellley gets a lot of check swings on the slider the pitch a swing and a foul back to the screen one ball two strikes the Cardinals lead 5-4 even though the White Socks about hit them 98 Cardinals made an error the White Sox have made two and the error in the eighth inning helped produce the go-ahead run cardinals just 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position in this game but still have the lead the pitch by Helley a swing and a miss on a pitch in the dirt and on the appeal he gets the ring up midroth is out the first base umpire raises the right arm one down in the ninth inning and here is veteran Andrew Benendi putting that on the replay very close to whether that was a swing or not maid not happy with either of those calls ben and Tendy the former Boston outfielder the left-handed batter takes pitch one outside he has a triple a run scored and a base hit came up with Boston in 2016 moved to Kansas City in 21 in 22 he played 93 games with Kansas City 33 with the Yankees joined the White Socks in 23 anendi swings and pouls it a half-hearted swing a foul ball over the shoulder of Pahes to the grass behind home plate benendi has been a 269 career hitter with 104 home runs and 516 RBI’s he’s just four at bats away from 4,000 one out nobody on the Cardinals lead by one helley’s pitch a swing and a foul ball that goes out of play that’s in the lower level down the left field line for a souvenir one and two miguel Vargas is on deck between Ben and Tendy and Vargas they own four of the White Socks nine hits here’s the pitch by Helley a swing and a ground ball to the shortstop charging win has it and he throws him out two down the White Socks are down to their last out but they’ve got the guy they want at the plate right now vargas with 10 home runs and 32 runs batted in vargas singled in Ben and Tendi in the fifth inning that gave the White Sox a two to one lead the Cardinals tied it in the sixth the White Sox untied it on a Taylor two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth and then the Cardinals put a three-run eighth inning up and here’s a slider a little bit high to Vargas contrarus with a two-run homer and then an error allowed Gorman to reach first base he scored the go-ahead run on a pinch head single by Joel Po the pitch by Helsley ground ball back to Helsley he has it flips to first redford Bird winner vargas is out three and this ball game has come to an end a comeback win for the Cardinals 54 over the Chicago White Sox and they actually came back twice in this game to be able to take it but it was the three-run eighth inning an error factored into that inning but so did a two-run home run by Wilson Contrarus a nice win for the Cardinals they win this series and they have a chance to uh sweep this series and sweep a double header here coming up short well nice comeback after losing two out of three to the White Socks last year uh season where the White Socks set the record with 121 losses but the Cardinals were down after a two-run homer by Taylor but it didn’t get this team down and really good to see Ryan Helsley actually pick up a save today he’s been struggling lately that’s not Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i now we have yet to get an official start time for game number two the moment we have that we will let you know and we’ll get things back to the voice of the Cardinals John Rooney and Ricky Horton they’ll have uh first pitch of game number two coming up in just a while a couple notable things happening in this game first off congratulations going out to Andre Geneo he gets uh one out and with that one out that he records he picks up his first win of his major league career so obviously a very uh cool moment for him to be able to uh do that and then we had the weird inning where Stephen Matz went out and recorded four strikeouts because there was a strikeout wild pitch in the inning so a four strikeout inning for Steven Mats he becomes just the second Cardinals pitcher in history to do that the first was Bob Gibson on June 7th of 1966 so pretty good when you’re Steven Matt and you can have company with only Bob Gibson on something that has been done in the history of the St louis Cardinals good job by the Cardinals to come back late this was a game that bluntly you were looking at some missed opportunities for the team they did not hit well with runners in scoring position they certainly could have had more runs in the first inning but they continued to put together competitive at bats and finally they were able to break through with the three runs in the eighth inning and they end up winning by that 54 score we’ll talk more about that three-run eighth inning and have our Marriott play of the game that’s up in just a moment as we continue on on the Cardinals Radio of the double header so the uh they’ll look for a series sweep coming up later on we have a first pitch time 4:45 so 30 minutes from this very moment 4:45 is when game number two is going to get underway and we’ll have much more of that coming up uh in just a while but we are continuing to look back at this one for the Cardinals as they do get the victory over the White Socks and this is one where uh they found themselves ahead early scoring a run in the first but then the White Socks would uh chip away at that and they would eventually take a 2 to1 lead when they scored a run in the fifth inning to break a one tie the Cardinals got back even in the sixth inning uh pushing across a run lars Newbar had a bases loaded walk however in the sixth inning the White Sox scored two runs on a Michael A taylor home run uh that was an inning where there was a misplay that certainly hurt the Cardinals in the sense of a wild pitch by Steven Matz on a strikeout that put the first runner on and essentially turned that home run into a two-run home run but the Cardinals they would put together a three-run inning of their own in the eighth in the eighth inning Cam Boozer came on to pitch for the White Socks alec Berles led the inning off with a base hit and then Wilson Contrarus comes up to the plate he hits a home run and that ties the game up 44 nolan Gorman would reach on a throwing air that air would really hurt the White Socks because eventually Joel Poso would come up to the plate as a pinch hitter he would certainly come through as we present it to you our play of the game presented by Marriott St louis Grand book your Grand Slam Cardinals ticket package today booer from the stretch the runner goes at first the pitch is swung online to left a base hit and the Cardinals lead the error turns into a run as Gorman crosses the plate on the pinch hit RBI single by Joe Alposo phil Maton handled the eighth ryan Hley handled the ninth and the Cardinals get the win
