to really see out Fuentes i like the Marlins to draw four walks here they’re going to have to make this 20-year-old who’s making his debut throw strikes and keep him in the zone aj Ramos hit on in the last segment if the Marlins can get into the bullpen it really sets the tone for the weekend they don’t have their big boys going like Jack said and Chris Sale Spencer Strider and Spencer Swellenbach you’re going to see guys like Grant Holmes and no with all due respect they are not Chris Sale you’re going to see Bryce Elder with all due respect it’s not Spencer Strider so tonight is a good Riley hits third and plays third matt Olsen is the cleanup man he’s at first base marcel Ozuna hits fifth he is tonight’s designated hitter azie Alb hits sixth and plays second base seventh inning catcher is Shawn Murphy batting eighth in center field Michael Harris the second and Nick Allen rounds it out as the nine hitting shortstop again on the hill for Atlanta is the 20-year-old right-hander Ddier Fuentes so again Akuna in right Verdugo in left Riley at third Olsson at first Ozuna the DH Alb’s at second Murphy catching Harris in center and Allen at short with the right-hander fentes on the mound lineup now for your Miami Marlins who are 29 and 44 and managed by Clayton McCulla xavier Edwards leads off and plays second base jesus Sanchez in his 500th career game congrats to him hits second and plays right field otto Lopez hits third he is the shortstop augustine Ramirez bats clean up and does the catching five hitting left fielder is Kyle Starders sixth hitting center fielder is Dane Meyers riding a fivegame hitting streak liam Hicks bats seventh and plays first base connor Norby hits third he is the third baseman batting ninth to designated hitter Bberto Hernandez so again Edwards at second Sanchez in right Lopez at short Ramirez catching Sters in left Meyers in center Hicks at first Norby at third and Hernandez the DH on the hill for the Marlins as they take the field in the alternate black tops with the script marlins across the chest and the home white pants the 29-year-old right-hander from Federalway Washington a Seattle suburb Jansen Junk junk again making his eighth major league start his 21st big league appearance overall he’s got a career 531 ERA this year been different in five long appearances out of the bullpen junk has thrown 22 and 2/3 innings to a 2.78 point erra the most notable number in 22 and 2/3 junk has punched out 20 and walked just two but AJ Ramos the most important pitch of the night might be the first pitch of the night to Ronald Duna Jr yeah you got to make sure you execute it do not give him a cookie i know some starters like to go out there and like “All right let me get my first pitch strike get that out of the way throw it right down the middle groove it.” Akunia is not not that guy he’s not the guy you do that to because he has hit 15 homers first pitch uh homers and uh he’s looking for that so if you’re going to throw that fast ball you got to make sure it’s well placed uh but I would if it was me I know some people some old school guys are against it but I’d start this game off with a a slider or a sweeper whichever one feels better in his hand right now you might see that 5% of the time 10% of the time what has impressed you about Junk in the early going Marlin’s career well just being able to make that transition to the bullpen and because when you’re in the bullpen if you’ve been a starter for most of your career you have your your routine set and a lot of times it takes it it’s a long one you have time to do it but as a as a reliever you have to be ready from pitch one you don’t have time to kind of get you know groove one in there so to speak so uh just how impressive he’s been to be able to handle that role and to be able to to be exactly what the Marlins need whenever they called upon him you ready to call a game in Miami yes I am my first one jansen Junk on the hill he works off the first base side of the rubber from the stretch with nobody on his first pitch of the game at 7:11 p.m is a checked swing and a sky foul ball right side and out of play first pitch slider um that’s that’s what I would have went with too and he saw that swing too akuna was hoping it was a fast ball and just like ah that’s not a fast ball let me just foul that off real quick shut it down akunia has loved hitting this year and in this ballpark over the course of his career another check swing on a sweeper and that a roller foul right side it count quickly nothing and two ronald Duna Jr playing in his 25th game 24 games in he might already be an all-star this year getting 376 with eight homers and 14 driven in OPS on base plus slug just under 1,200 that one missed upstairs for Seamer high at 94 perfect placement that’s where I want those fast balls if I’m him especially when you have a fast ball to give there’s no reason to throw a strike right there that was just outside of the zone and still got like a little bit of a check swing so he can he can uh still do something off that pitch two pitch misses inside 94 and Akuna backs out and then falls into a deep crouch he looks as close to a medieval knight as we have in baseball all that armor he’s got as much armor as anybody in the game he’s got a knee guard two two that one whistled foul right side all right so he took a really good swing on on a slider that was low and away his hot zone is low and away so if you want to go there I that’s why I like that pitch right there that just moved his feet a little bit a fast ball inside moved his feet so they can open up that outside zone for him two pitch augustine setting up outside and he takes off the plate away a sweeper count runs forward see he likes to he likes to extend his hands and reach out over the plate so the more fast balls you throw in on him the more that stops that so then you can throw that sweeper that’s just off the corner of the plate for a strike because if not you have to throw that sweeper off the plate 3-2 pitch that one fouled away right side and Akuna is making junk work you see and right there he took a swing he hit his he Akuna hit his head with his bat cuz he was frustrated cuz that was a pitch he missed usually those balls in that area he he has a high average on so that’s why I’m I was saying it’s important to throw that fast ball inside and move his feet to open up that area again Augustine sets up off the plate away and the 3-2 is cut on and missed a tight turning slider up top but Akuna simply swung underneath it and Jansen Junk has a strike out of Ronald Akuna Jr there’s one away right away that’s a case where I mean I I I can guarantee you he was not looking to throw a slider up in the zone right there uh but it ended up working out for him uh and Akuna hasn’t been striking out that much he’s had like a 5% strikeout rate uh you know so like he’s he’s he’s been seeing the ball well and his and his walk rate has been up as well first pitch here to the lefty batting Alex Verdugo misses up and out for ball one ronald Duna Jr obviously it’s that 2023 season that jumps out he was you know a 4070 player he had 41 homers stole 73 bases 10 pitch aso takes a called strike count is one and one what jumped out about Akuna that year was the strikeout rate plummeted before that he was about a 23 24% strikeout rate guy major league average is about 22% 1-1 to Verdugo check swinging a slider up top he did not go around two-1 in that MVP campaign the K rate dropped from about 23% to 11% when this guy’s putting the ball in play he makes magic happen but he didn’t do it that time two-1 Verdugo want a fast ball on the outside corner a good pitch and the count is two and two well sometimes it takes a weird pitch like a backup slider to strike out somebody who’s been hot like who’s expecting a slider up in the zone right there you know what I mean like all the other ones where they were just off the plate or maybe right on on the on the glove side uh to junk where he was missing it like you can see those frustration from from Akuna because he’s like I usually hit that but that one right there he was like “All right fit my hat because who throws that?” To pitch a little chopper over to second base x has got it in rhythm he picks up the knee high chopper and tosses to first for out number two set the defense for Miami real quick you got Hicks at first for just one of the few times in his career so far edwards at second Lopez at short and Norby at third outfield left to right is Sters Myers Sanchez and Ramirez doing the catching for Junk now Jansen Junk sees Austin Riley who started the year so slowly hot month of May tapered off a little bit in June first pitchy out front a good slider counts nothing and one austin Riley this year closely mimics what happened last year although June was his breakout month in 2024 one pitch just outside one of the safest hitters in Major League Baseball riley’s OPS last year through the first two months of the season was right about 640 and then his OPS in June kicked up to 9101 riley hits that one high in the air foul ground first base side hicks is over near the padded wall liam Hicks watches that get the top the netting on the first base camera well and the count is 1 and two bradley getting just 215 against the Marlins in his career but he’s hitting the ball out of the ballpark against them homers just over 70 games yeah with Riley right now you want to stick away right now he’s he’s able to turn on balls that’s where his comfort is so if you get this fast ball in there two pitch that was pioneer foul right side out a play so the thing that helps Junk is that ride on his fast ball that gives him ability to make mistakes and them not be p him not be punished for it but that all starts with being able to be in the zone as often as he is u that helps for them not to get good swings off one two is cut on and missed a curveball started at the knees drifted low and Junk pulled the string on Riley one two three inning with a pair of punch outs of Akuna and Riley and we go to the bottom it’s a great night for baseball this matchup features some of the best talent in the game a lot of power a lot of marquee names here we go buckle up folks there’s a guy in spot the bats have come up sooner we’re just playing Powerball this place doesn’t know what these teams are entertaining are they the show continues experience gametoame coverage of the night’s biggest moments live and commercial free mlb agent market out of Colombia that was in 2022 and here in 2025 he is the youngest Braves pitcher since 1969 and the youngest in the big league since Julio Urias in the mid2010s ddier Fuentes makes his major league debut the numbers this year in the minor leagues through nine starts a 481 erra that doesn’t really tell the story this guy has a rocket ship fast that made of a rocket ship through the minor leagues you see Xavier Edwards followed by Jesus Sanchez and Otto Lopez in the bottom of the first inning and the Colombian right-hander fires and X takes upstairs that was the fast ball at 94 miles an hour so Shawn Murphy love that about neck high and he tosses that over the first base dugout to get authenticated that will surely go on Videier Quentes’s mantle in the near future next pitch that one misses up and out again two and0 yeah that’s one of the things as if I’m hitting right now or I would tell the hitters is to be very patient be very selective there’s going to be a lot of adrenaline going through this young kid uh probably going to leave some balls arm side so just to be patient go to X he slashes foul side or just rip the next fast ball that is on the top of the zone or go i mean but the here’s the thing like Edwards is one of the best bat to ball contact guys in the league so I mean you you trust whatever he’s swinging at um that if he’s swinging at it it’s a good pitch for him to hit so um yeah but I would still say to stay patient if he’s going to walk you let him walk you are there guys in this lineup that you look at and say “I love the matchup against a guy that throws almost exclusively fast balls.” That was a curveball that just outside no I guess that was a called strike by Lance Parksdale even though about half a ball off the plate down to two and two wow that was way out there two pitches fouled back uh Sanchez I really love Sanchez against a guy that throws primarily fast balls i was looking at Augustine yeah yeah sanchez yeah I like that shot jesus Sanchez in the on deck circle again playing his 500th career game tonight two two so the bouncing ball foul right side couple of curve balls from Dier Fuentes but the book on him 70% fast he he has a sinker and a four seam fast they’re both about 94 95 poentes struggles to land his secondary pitches for strikes it’s going to be fast balls but a good one two two pitch that one hit the air out to left field that’s carrying out to Berdugo and Alex Berdugo makes the catch well he that pitch right there he shook three times to get to the fast ball they were trying to get him to throw something else he’s like “No I’ll throw a fast ball and got the job done.” Yeah fuentes on the seventh pitch of the at bat got X to fly out and just looking at the pitch specs here this is an incredibly low release height major League release height’s about 5’9 he released from 5T flat get nearly 7 ft of extension this pitches Sanchez misses upstairs that was at 98 m an hour too man I his arm his arm action is so quick so I imagine it it jumps on the hitter pitch Sanchez was in on his hands and he sends a liner over to short that’s caught by Allen short stop nick Allen was in the shift he took a step or two to his backhand one of the best defensive short stops in baseball makes the grab on the liner for the second out set the defense for Atlanta real quick he got Olsson at first Alby’s at second Allen at short Riley at third outfield left to right is Verdugo Harris and Akuna and Shawn Murphy doing the catching for Diddier Fuentes first pitch to Otto Lopez takes a spinning slider in for a cold strike nothing and one hitting 230 with six homers and 25 driven in on the year we’re scoreless in the bottom of the first and the 01 pitch is a little chopper over to third base riley’s got it he throws across the dime and Olsen plucked it on the home plate side of first he tried swiping the tag on Otto but he sped by and that will get a base runner on for the Marlins yeah it looked like he missed the tag right there the throw was offline auto was hustling down the line thankfully for that cuz most of the time some guys just take it in riley couldn’t quite get his feet set his momentum was going towards center field and he he kind of side armed it and with that when you’re throwing sidearm like that you have to kind of aim more to the left of first base if you’re looking at first base from third so that it kind of tails back into the bag will that a throwing air on Austin Riley as Augustine Ramirez takes a fast ball yanked outside for ball one and I know that from experience from all the ground balls that I took in BP yeah sure we’re PFPs i was gonna give you some credit oh man pfp i was a PFP champ that was that was my opportunity to show I was an athlete man pitch has to wait they’re over to check on Otto and he’s back in diving safely how often did you do PFPs pitcher fielding practice i when you got to spring training then after that every day in spring training and then after that the next spring training which I thought was crazy like how do you go that long without doing it pitch that one ripped on the ground over to third base Riley has got that he takes all the time he needs to fire it over to first and in the inning it was hit on the screws by Augustine but Diddy Fuentes moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 Smith Clarks one in right down the line it may go crazy folks goes crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three to two on a home run by the Wizards the next open the second inning we’re scoreless between the Marlins and the Braves game one of a three-game weekend series psoning a 20ame on base streak 10 pitch to him floats in for a called strike that was a sweeper one and one vson Junk seeing Olsson the big body lefty hitting first baseman hitting 256 with an 850 OPS1 on a bouncing ball foul first base side and advantage junk one and two i like his approach right now so he’s pitching backwards which I felt like it has to be done uh like you know pitching backwards meaning throwing his breaking pitches first instead of establishing the fast ball like uh you know so like going back and forth with it again switching up your your game plans is important one two is cut on and missed a slider upstairs it might have been a mistake to Akuna was it a mistake to Olen you got to swing a miss though well you know the thing about his his slider it almost plays like a cutter like it it doesn’t have the big horizontal movement uh that one kind of like it backed up on him so it’s almost like that gyro pitch i remember I brought it up to you a while back it has the spin of the slider but doesn’t really move like a slider so I don’t know i mean I’d like to talk to him maybe after the game and see if he’s actually trying to do that pitch to Marcel Ozuna is in a sweeper at the knees for a called strike nothing one junk has gone four up and four down with three punch outs two of which on that elevated spinning slider yeah one to AJ’s former teammate on the way arizona takes upstairs you told me about your uh your hug that you gave the big bear that dude’s just solid muscle it’s it’s crazy every time I give him a hug I’m like I I He doesn’t work out like that lifts one high in the air out to right field sanchez tracking just shy of the warning track he sets up shop and makes the catch round number two he’s one of the most dense people that I’ve ever Not not in the bad way not in the bad way i’m talking about like his body is so dense like his his uh son i remember picking him up one time and he was like three years old i’m like “Oh come here little guy.” I try to pick him up and I’m like “All right I have to use more strength.” I did the old man trying to pick him up cuz there there are some really thick people first pitch to Azie Albies is a spinning curveball that just misses upstairs ball one you don’t lift with your legs not with your back that’s exactly right yeah i thought I was young enough to still lift with my my back nope not when you’re lifting up an Ozuna pitch all these fouls back one and one there are two men gone in the top of the second that were scoreless between the Marlins and the Braves marcelo Zuna listed at 6’1 which I believe he’s not an overwhelmingly tall guy he’s listed at 225 lbs yeah he’s uh he’s like 230 240 one that one popped up pow left side and into the seats out of play one and two 205 working ahead no 225 oh 225 but even then but even then yeah yeah he’s he’s just so thick infield shifting Alb’s to pull in the one-two pitch that one rolled over to second base right at X he’s got it he straightens out throws to first and that ends the inning six up and six down for Jansen Junk through the Atlanta Braves moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said by listening to every game on the MLB app and mlb.com cp Pro refrigerant products that include a hose and a gauge visit your O’Reilly Auto Parts store or O’Reillyauto.com gideier Fuentes back out there for the bottom of the second inning seeing Kyle Sters were scoreless the Marlins and the Braves and the first pitch tower slaps into left center field harrison Verdugo converging and they won’t get there verdugo picks it up on one hop on the warning track in left center and fires an anvil back in and Kyle Sters is aboard with a leadoff double he slapped that ball to left center and Michael Harris cut his pursuit of that way short it almost looked like they were afraid to run into each other or something like that but that was a good piece of hitting by Sters just took that fast ball up and away and just slapped it the other way got some good wood on it what you do with a fast ball like that don’t try to get too big just take it take it uh where it’s pitched get a hit off it or a double and let the VO do the work it came in at 96 it left at 95 it was the same exact thing and that’s the first hit for either side tonight fuentes from the stretch seeing Dane Meyers first pitch is a fast ball that misses outside for ball one i want to walk you through the ascension of Diddier Fuentes and I want to compare it to another Brave starting pitcher two years ago because it is nearly identical 10 pitchers takes a called strike the fast ball gideer Fuentes last year was really good in Lowey 76 and two/3 in it fuentes after spending the entire year in Lowey made three starts this year with HA Rome five starts in double A and a start in triple AAA before his debut on one pitch is fouled back and the count is one and two so again a whole year in low A last year then three starts in high A five starts in double A a start in AAA he’s in the big leagues at 20 years and three days aj Smith Shaver who we saw earlier this year unfortunately a torn UCL he’s out for the year plus large part of next year one-two pitch is fouled back again 97 mph fast the runner at second nobody out in the bottom of the second aj Smith shiver in 2023 the year before that spent the entire year in low A much like Poentes and then to begin the 2023 season three starts in high A two starts in double A two starts in AAA and he debuts in the big leagues at 20 years old one two pitch meyers chase that was a curve ball he got a swing and a miss that’s Gideer Fuentes’s first major league strikeout for a guy that is known for the fast ball and nothing else he went to the curve ball and it was a pretty good curveball there that had some good spin on it it started out where the other two fast balls had ended up and I think he tunnled that pitch so well that Dame Myers that’s why he took he took a swing that it looked like he did not know a curveball was coming really offbalance swing there first pitch here to Liam Hicks on the way and Hicks takes another curveball that one drops in at the knees for a called strike nothing one so Quentes and Smith Shaver both spent the entirety of a season in low and then three starts in high quentes made five starts in double and one start triple smith Shaver two starts at each stop a one pitch misses low and they both debut as a starting pitcher for the Braves at 20 years old smith Shaver he made five starts that year he had a 4-3 ERA fuentes it doesn’t seem like he’s going to factor into the rotation long term this year one-1 pitch hicks slaps one into left center field that will get down in front of Verdugo sters he got the hands up from Blake Lai now he gets the windmill home and Sters comes in with a beat first slide hicks pushes to second on the throw home and an RBI single from Liam makes it one- nothing Marlins here in the bottom of the second yeah Sters looked like he got the the stop go sign right it was kind of confusing but good thing Stard has good enough speed to kind of score right there but yeah it was uh it was confusing at first but good thing St is young and he’s got them good knees to still keep on going so Liam Hicks with the RBI single his 26th run driven in on the year and it’s one- nothing Marlins here as Connor Norby digs in against Ddier Fuentes first pitch from Fuentes on the way and Norby swings and misses underneath that four seam fast that was the first run of the game which is brought to you by ADT the official security partner of the Miami Marlins make your home smart and safe with ADT and Google Nest products that’s trusted security from ADT and the intelligence of Google for a home with no worries a one pitch and a called strike on the outer edge nothing in two go to adt.com/marlins or call 1800750647 Google Nester trademarks of Google LLC one- nothing fish there’s one away in the bottom of the second and the O2 to Norby is fouled back quentes has clearly found the feel for his curve ball which can be a bit of a scary sight but again he’s going to go to that fast ball more often than not but when he throws that curveball it’s a eye level change and a change of speed so it kind of throws you off the fast ball just enough two he went back to the curve ball and Norby fouled one straight down that flipped Murphy so yeah crew chief in the home plate umpire Lance Barkstdale walks in front of the plate to toss the ball to Fuentes himself yeah so that curve ball is at 80 mph and his fast ball is around 96 so that’s a huge difference in in velocity so he’s using that one to get swings and misses but two to kind of set up his fast ball as well how quickly can you tell if you’re the batters box here i know some curve balls will like pop out of a guy’s hand well so the previous video I was watching of him that you were showing me he had hit a huge pop oh two is cut on and missed a curveball spins in and Liam or uh Connor part swings right through it there are two men gone but this curveball that he’s throwing right now is so tight that there’s little to no pop out of the hand i think that’s what some hitters look for when they see a all right when you’re looking at the trajectory machine is there a pop out of it you know and and if there is which where’s my go zone to swing or to lay off it to know it’s going to be down and right now it looks so tight that it’s coming out of the same slot as this fast ball pitch toberto Hernandez is a slider taken off the plate away hernandez did not go around on a check swing the count’s one and0 rbi single from Liam Hicks has made it one- nothing Marlins in the bottom of the second inning what pitches swings and misses that slider off the plate low and away yeah he’s he’s becoming a pitcher right before our eyes isn’t he like we’re talking about oh he’s you know he’s going to lean on his fastball for sure but it looks like they they have a game plan with him to make his fast ball even better by throwing a little more of the off speed stuff and in and in uh you know leverage counts they grow so fast 30th pitch is cut out and miss 97 on the outer black and Hernandez swung underneath it one and two yeah I mean like we we talked about before i mean maybe they see something in them and there there is a a plan uh maybe not stay up here for the full full year for the rest of the year right now but just to give him a taste two 98 just missed the outside corner fuentes nearly locked up Hernandez but it’s a good take and the count is two and two see right there he might go to the curve ball right now after throwing a fast ball glove side that was just off the plate that was perfectly set up to to at the height of his curve ball to get a swing and a miss oh he’s going up two misses up and out he yanked it glove side a little bit the counter runs full with kicks second base top of the order xavier Edwards is on deck yeah he’s he’s gone to the curveball for the strike out but it’s 3-2 count so he’s probably going to go make I mean I would assume with this fast ball payoff that one cut on and missed he went fast ball up top and he got a swing and a miss diddier Fuentes collects three take a hack at guessing which baseball player or man said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning roof at Lone Depot Park lock in your seats today at marlins.com/tick alongside AJ Ramos and Steven Stro i’m Jack McMullen we’re in the top of the third inning jansen Junk has gone six up and six down with three punch outs against the Braves so he gets seven eight and nine shawn Murphy followed by Michael Harris II then Nick Allen the nine hitting shorts stop young his first start as a Marlin fires the first pitch to Murphy and that a slider a called strike on the lower outside corner nothing in one john Murphy on a six-year $73 million contract through the 2028 season all of a sudden has a catching partner a one pitch is popped up right side foul ground could be playable x watches that get into the seats in a play nothing and two you know you pay Murphy a couple of years ago thinking he’s going to be your franchise catcher and be your guy and then you fall head over heels in love with Drake Baldwin who could very well win the National League rookie of the year baldwin getting the night off tonight but we’re chatting with CJ Nitkowski in the Braves TV booth they pretty much flip-flop every day oh two that one popped back and fouled towards us that one just below the home TV booth that was almost to CJ Nikowski who we were just talking about next we got to start bringing more people up i just got to keep saying your name and you might get a foul ball although Steven said one foul ball up here in his three years in the booth at a foul tip held on to by Augustine it was a slider and Shawn Murphy strikes out that’s the fourth punch out for Jansen Junk there’s one away in the top of the third good speaker right there or slider so yeah that I think those pitches that were backups I think they were supposed to be similar to that that slider that’s low in the zone unless he’s throwing that slider up in the zone on purpose like that i can see that him doing that to a lefty but to a righty that’s just very risky because if you don’t get it up those type of pitches go a long way pitcher to Michael Harris is hit on the ground to the dive of the uh shortstop Lopez he rolls a ground ball over to first and that gets Harris great play by Otto otto Lopez dove to his backhand he popped up and he literally threw Liam Hicks a ground ball at first base it rolled to him but it rolled hard enough to beat Harris by half a step that is an amazing play from the New Marlin shortstop that’s a heck of a play that’s a great first step for him to be able to jump off like that just to read the the ball off the bat dive catch it and then he didn’t pop all the way up he threw that from his his right knee and was able to get it over to first with enough steam another great defensive short stop nick Allen lifts one out to left field that is falling quickly ders dives and he makes the catch kyle Sters diving in how about the leather behind Jansen Jung first auto off base is coming in a brand new format join Lauren Gardner and Xavier Scrugs as they explore all the baseball positioned in the shower for a little bit today i asked if everything’s all right seeing no wags in the lineup just a reset yeah just trying to trying to stay nimble from the bottom of the third inning and uh defense got us to the bottom of the third jansen Jung has gone nine up and nine down but last half inning because of a ton of help from Otto Lopez at short Kyle Sters in left field a spinning curveball from Pittier Fuentes in his major league debut misses low and the count is 1 and0 on X move out to left in his first plate appearance against Points how about a curveball on the outside corner a called strike one and one marlins up one- nothing as a Liam Hicks kyle Scour doubled to open the second and Hicks drove him in a single to left center 1-1 that one ripped on the ground pass the dive of the second baseman Alb’s into right for a base hit xavier Edwards continues to swing a hot bat and he is a leadoff base runner here for the Fish in the bottom of the third that’s a fast ball that’s very hard to hit it was up in the zone and it was middle but it was up in the zone and with his fast ball the way it profiles you have to tell your brain to swing above that baseball but that’s so hard to do but Xavier Edwards is showing why he’s one of the best in the game at bat bat ball skills and got a hit right there was that a thing when you were playing you know hitters almost programming themselves first pitch to Jesus Sanchez cut on and missed nothing and one hitters almost programming themselves to swing over the top of a fast ball if they knew that a fast ball had good carry yeah i mean I I remember hearing some guys talk about that they talked about before we had all the numbers of like good vertical and all vertical break all that stuff they’d say he has an invisal fast ball like we don’t know why it just has better carry or ride to it it seems like it’s rising so whenever they would talk about that they felt they said “All right make sure you’re swinging like a ball above where the ball is.” Interesting and I don’t even know how you equate that in your mind when it’s a guest of it right yeah right so like that just shows you how good these guys are trying to swing at a ball that’s going 98 m an hour but swing above where you see the ball like what if you’re not driving right now i mean like pick up some sort of like bat-like object and just swing it a throw over to check on Edwards and he’s back in standing up and just think about like how you have to adjust that on the fly like these guys do i mean you’re swinging at full speed these guys know okay I need to swing maybe two inches above where my typical swing path would take me they only know that because they do this thousands of times a month a one pitch this is outside a ball in a strike on Sanchez with Edwards at first on top of that you are training yourself to put the bat on the ball to meet the ball where it’s at so that’s ingrained in your head so to tell yourself all right swing on top of that that’s even harder to to get your body to do but but Edwards was able to do it there on one pitch that one hit well out to left center field and deep harris is back on the track and Michael Harris makes the catch in left center field for the first out of the inning jesus Sanchez gave that thing a ride but it was out the hardest part of this ballpark to hit it out of and Michael Harris got through the spot so now Otto Lopez trying to do something offensively after surely a top 10 play tomorrow last half inning it’s one- nothing Marlins in the bottom of the third and Fuentes set at the belt with exit first fires and Otto takes a called strike that was a four seamer at 96 on the outer half xavier Edwards is 12 for 18 in the stolen base department it really feels like he hasn’t been off and going at all this year x was shooting for 60 at the outset of the season otto specs one into right center field that gets in for a base hit edwards around second headed to third akuna fires a dart over to third base and X just gets in with a head first dive ahead Lopez pushes to second on the throw but X just beat an amazing throw from Akuna when when he throws that talk about I wonder what his B was on that ball the spin he was getting that throw from Akunia that ball just stayed a steady line from where he released it and got to third base and that was an incredible throw it’s fun to watch guys like that throw especially Akuma aj guess how fast that ball went jack you have the info i know you just looked it up i I haven’t looked i was going to look it up but I would say that was 98 augustine Ramirez hammers a ball left field and gone threerun bomb oh Ramirez his 11th home run of the season and the Marlins blow it open 4 nothing in the bottom of the third so that was a curveball that was left down and in and Augustine punished that i mean there’s a reason why he sticks to his fast balls in these in these counts right there he just left a a curveball that was up in the zone that may have been one of those ones that pops up that you can tell and Augustine didn’t miss that that ball was crushed that was 111 112 off the bat and 436 ft out to left field kyle Sters takes a curveball low and away for ball one he didn’t miss a stitch of that oh man it was like he was expecting that swings and misses maybe a foul tip held on to by the catcher Murphy in the count one and one 4 nothing Marlins in the bottom of the third augustine again his 11th home run of the year rbi’s 24 25 and 26 and we were just talking about Drake Baldwin who could be the favorite for National League Rookie of the Year augustine said “Hold on don’t forget about me fellas.” 1-1 that one misses upstairs at 96 from Quentes atlanta has a rested bullpen i’d be curious how quickly they tap into it 2-1 towers rounds one over to second base that’s routine for Albies he picks it up throws for first in time for out number two so funny we were talking yesterday i can It’s kind of cool to say this on pregame on TV yesterday Jack and we were kind of going back and forth like Augustine Ramirez had 10 home runs what’s our overunder for the season we both kind of agreed on 21 20ish home runs but the point being this guy in the lineup you have to stop what you’re doing i don’t care what he’s hitting as of late first pitch to Dane Meyers 97 misses outside for ball one it is such a luxury to have someone like this in the lineup where you feel like on any given pitch no matter where we are he can send one 430 ft think about that we settled on 2122 homers this year for a kid that wasn’t up for the first month of the year one missed outside of the count is 2 and 0 and I think that’s being conservative i We’re less than halfway home that was Augustine’s 11th this guy could absolutely finish with 25 homers and he’s a threat for 30 next year two pitch to Dane takes a curveball loan away just off the plate the count is 3 and0 and it was funny because his last AB it was a hot shot to I think it was Austin Riley and I looked down during the commercial break to both of you guys and I was like man he’s hitting the ball hard and you said he’s just got to lift it steve pitch misses outside a four pitch free pass to Meyers yeah I I think so when I’ve been watching the games at home even the outs that he’s been I mean I know he’s been getting out a lot lately but some of those balls were were hit pretty hard as well he’s making good contact with like like you said Jack just hitting the ball on the ground but the thing that I’m impressed most about him is is his plate discipline like it it he goes in spurts cuz he’s a young he’s a young kid he’s going to go through where he’s going to try to do too much or just swinging at stuff that he maybe he shouldn’t be but I feel like his plate discipline has gotten better and it’s getting better at the more experience that he has and I mean that’s why you’re seeing him hitting homers like this cuz his plate discipline is is so good dane on the move that pitch missed inside throw to second base is not in time but Dane overslid the bag it was a head first dive the shorts stop allen applied the tag it was late but Dne slid right past it allen ran over to him to get the tag on him before he scampered back to the bag cake McCulla has his hand up saying we might challenge this and Aaron Lenhard says no let the inning end damage done on a three-run home run from Augustine Ramirez and we go to the fourth it’s four nothing fish on the Marlins radio network at Lone Depot we’re big on home home games home teams home field advantage and you better believe it home moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts one to right down the line it may go go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three to two on a home run by the Wizards the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at 13 then it’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and mlb.com special ticket package that includes an exclusive Marlins TeamUSA jersey get your tickets today at marlins.com/usa it’s in Junk is singing Ronald Akuna Jr who lunges at the first pitch but did not swing he took a curve ball low and away in the count one and0 top of the fourth inning it’s 4 nothing Marlins because of the guy in the crouch about a foot behind Akunia augustine Ramirez with a three-run homer pitch to Akuna spins the upper outside corner a called strike one and one maybe he’s doing it on purpose i’m telling you that was another that was another slider but again like I mentioned before it has more of a cutter profile and and when it’s like that I I can see him using it as a weapon up in his own one pitch misses upstairs akuna got his hands out of the way that was a fast ball it was a tight turning slider a cutterish that was on the upper half and he did that to Akuna in his first at bat to punch him out he did it to Matt Olsen as well to one pitch that was fouled back that was a slider center cut that was uh judging on AJ’s reaction a dangerous pitch oo we I start sweating right there it takes me back to the times where I thrown a pitch and right out the hand I’m like “Oh no.” Yeah that is heading into a danger zone uh took me right back to that flashback too was fouled back do you remember like you’ve got a great pitching memory with all this you have a great memory in general we were talking about that before pitch but do do you have a memory of thinking oh no with a pitch off your fingertips and it actually got drilled uh actually most of them I steered clear from is fouled back you just shut out of your memory well no no well I mean I throw like oh no and most of the time they missed it yeah the there’s more times where I threw a pitch and I’m like yeah that’s going to be good and then it gets whacked you’re like what what happened do you have a vivid memory of that like did somebody hit a a shot against you that you’re like I that thing might not have landed that Michael Morris um good name two is reached four and dribbled foul by a Michael Morris my second outing in the big leagues he was with the Nationals and uh I was riding on high because I had my my uh debut I struck out the side so I’m like “Oh yeah I’m on top of the world.” I get a first pitch out and and Michael Morris comes in i I blow him away the fast ball end two pitch a line shot up the middle and through for a base hit 111 off the bat and Dane Meyers picks up the sharp roller that’s a leadoff single for Akunia first hit for the Braves against Jansen Junk that was a a forcing fast ball away and in that zone that low and away zone Okuna hits very well so that’s one of his hot zones um and he was able to put a good swing on that fast ball right there uh but back to the story with with Michael Morris i blew him away first pitch fast ball inside said “Okay.” Then I threw a slider away and uh he swings and misses pitch to Alex Verdugo is fouled back it was a check swing the count was nothing almost knocked somebody’s teeth out over there clay’s got to keep his head on his swivel they had cars got to watch it over there but yeah then I throw a fast ball in thinking I have them beat and this is whenever they’re making a playoff run uh we’re up by one run and Michael Morris somehow gets his hands inside on the fast ball and knocks it out one pitch a line shot into right that’s through for a base hit auna sprints to second and that’s back to backs against junk to open the top of the fourth with the Marlins up four nothing oh I hate to interrupt here AJ and this is stating the obvious but after you score three in that bottom of the third you want to hold momentum i won’t ask for a scoreless fourth here would hope so but you want to be able to at least keep some of that momentum that you created in that third oh yeah you got to you got to bear down right here uh got to make I mean having a shutdown inning is is important for your team to keep that momentum going uh see if he can wiggle out of trouble right here pitch to Austin Riley is cut on a miss to sweeper nothing one riley on the year driven in 37 ground ball would be awesome but unfortunately Riley one of the best at elevating the baseball a one pitch is a ground ball taylor made on to Otto to second for one on to first in time no not in time for the double play augustine immediately points over to the dugout and Clayton McCulla has his hand up aaron Lenhard says “Challenge this.” That should be a 643 double play even before seeing the replay and there will be two men gone with a runner at third yeah go ahead and put them ear mugs on it’s a weird way Liam Hicks caught this ball it looks like it’s catching days oh I got to be honest this is closer yeah it is I initially thought guys oh he’s out ah the call on the field was safe looking at the replay they’re true hicks kind of alligator armed it he he waited for it to get closer to his body to almost pick it like a catcher that’s So as a first baseman your instincts would be to go out there and kind of reach and scoop it up as a catcher you want to bring it into your body and keep it out in front of you and that’s that’s kind of what he did right there instincts that’s what Clayton was talking about the more experience he gets at first base the more his instincts will be more like a first baseman because right now you’re gonna go you’re going to lean towards what you’ve been doing most of your your career which is catching you know I know he he played first base in the minor leagues but his most recent time in the Big East was was catching when auto to X to hits and we’ll see if New York sees anything different another look at this on the big board it does seem like that throw beat Riley by a millisecond but the call on the field is very important here call on the field was safe it would be a six to four fielders choice and runners at corners with one away but the Marlins feel decent about this being a double play here’s Lance Barksdale whenever you’re ready Lance I think Lance is still going over this thing but he is gnawing on that he is disintegrating his gum the big learning lesson here with Hixie is to reach out that left arm extend and create i know he’s not the biggest guy out there but if he does that this isn’t even a debate come on Lance longer this goes the more I’m worried we’re watching him like we’re watching him hold the intercom no the longer this goes the better I feel you think huh because the call on the field was safe after review the call on the field stands under a safe the call stands it was not confirmed so there was no indisputable video evidence to confirm that the runner was out at first base it was close and when in doubt you adhere to the call on the field so it was a fieldielder’s choice six to four and there are runners at the corners for Matt Olsson i could try and speak this one into existence too it’s four nothing Marlins here in the top of the fourth riley wasn’t a guy that put the ball on the ground much olsson pops it up foul left side play olsson one of the best at elevating and celebrating the premier power bats in Major League Baseball yeah I mean it’s tough it’s tough to get him to ground out too because his highest batting averages are balls down in the zone so those end up being line drives and if you’re going to pitch him up in the zone that is more likely to get a popup one is cut on and missed good curve ball bottomed out on Olsen and he swung over the top of it nothing in two so if you keep that curve ball closer on the inside part of the plate his batting average is 100 so if it’s that’s just below the the strike zone but if you get it up if you get it up in the lower part of the zone he is hitting 476 350 and 318 on that lower part of that zone so that’s that’s the tricky part about it so like you want to go low and away but just don’t miss it in that zone cuz he has a good chance of of getting a hit there two from Junk to Olsen on a ground ball foul first base side earners it first and third one man out in the top of the fourth inning it’s 4 nothing Marlins olson really turned it on as of late having a tremendous month of June 02 Olson takes upstairs it’s a good try was 95 just off the upper outside edge and Jung having to work here for a possible shutdown inning after the free-run homer last time one two wilson sprays that foul left side that was stung over towards the direction of Ron Luna who was getting his lead at third base and he hopped to get out of the way working off the first base side of the rubber marlin’s alternate blacks today against the Braves and the Road Braves one two Olson rips that one through the right side of the infield for a base hit akuna pretty much walks home from third base riley pushes to second and Matt Olsen with RBI number 49 on the year he continues his hot month of June it’s an RBI single the Braves on the board it’s 4 to1 Marlins in the top of the fourth that was another curveball that uh didn’t get low enough it was right at the lower part of the zone olsen like I just mentioned before has good batting average in that zone he was able to put enough wood on it to hit it in between second and first right there um still you know you can limit the damage right here by getting a a ground ball for from Ozuna a double play he hits decent amount of ground balls pitch Marcel Ozuna is a slider type turner on the outside corner for a called strike not even one clouna spent five years in a Marlins uniform for one pitch that what a perfect pitch a slider on the lower outside corner nothing in two exactly where you want to stay souna as a Marlin a goat glove award winner he’s a DH now 02 takes blowing away that kicked away from Ramirez just a little bit olsson ventured off the bag but that throw gets into right field olsson kicked his feet up on the dive back into first base augustine tried getting Olsen who was venturing off the first base bag and that ball got past Olsen and the first baseman hicks at rolled into right and a throwing air on the catcher augustine will push Riley from second to third so runners at the corners now in a one-two count with one away probably a throw you don’t want to make right there i mean you can see that if he made a perfect throw and a perfect catch and a perfect tag you would have got him there but that’s just not a throw that you need to make in that situation business decision one two that one a call third strike a slider on the inside corner and he locked up Ozuna a strike out and a big one for Junk there are two men gone that’s one of those sliders that start out that looks like it’s going to be possibly a fast ball in then it starts to break down down in into the strike zone ozuna could not pull the trigger on that even if he did it would have been soft contact now Azie Alb’s switch hitter batting left bounced out to second his first time first pitch with a little dribbler foul right side nothing and one tell you what this game has a really good feel right now exciting game big knocks for both sides the crowd has been into it feels like NL East play oh one pitch albies lifts that one in the air down the right field line sanchez tracking so is X sanchez in foul ground makes the catch up against the padded wall jesus Sanchez just avoided a fan’s glove that was reaching over to do a little Bartman action but let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term next phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means taco a home run hit to the opposite field with an oppo taco his 13th that’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com it’s a great night for baseball this matchup features some of the best talent in the game a lot of power a lot of marquee names here we go buckle up folks there’s a guy want to be in spotlight the bats have come along we’re just playing power ball this place doesn’t know what these teams are entertaining are they the the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com hey Brewers brewers stick around for dazzling postgame fireworks show it all goes down Friday July 4th at 7:10 p.m grab your seats now at margins.com/tick and he sticks the landing golf club for AJ all right and we got the nice from Amed ahmed and his son King back in studio right now big King we’re in the bottom of the fourth inning it’s 4-1 Marlins over the visiting Atlanta Braves game one of a three-game weekend set when we go back to Atlanta five games in four days i think we got that makeup double header that’ll be I think August in Atlanta too no one misses upstairs and they count one and0 on Liam oh man those are the days where I had to rub my hand in the dirt because the sweat from my hands would just make my the ball slip 10 pitch is in for a called strike one and one i’ve heard so much stuff over the last two three years about sweat and rosin creating like the stickiest substance ever was it too much sweat one one misses low and they count two balls of a strike well you got to remember I’m coming in the ninth inning so a bunch of sweaty hands have been touching that rosin oh sure and like it it’s becomes too wet it’s like it doesn’t work two one pitch spins to the bottom of the strike zone a called strike two and two on Liam Hicks have four runs on five hits the Braves run on three hits but unless you add an ingredient like uh sunscreen two misses high and tight the camera runs full it isn’t as sticky that rosin sunscreen that is well you got to protect your skin from the sun and sometimes you put a little bit more on your wrist and then the the bag hits it 3-2 pitch broken bat little flare a soft liner caught by the shortstop Allen he was already in the shift against a lefty bat Hicks and he ventured into shallow center just beyond the edge of the infield dirt almost directly behind the second base back to catch that little flare of a line drive and there’s one away now that brings up Connor Norby who struck out the curveball this first time hey man you’re preaching to the choir i I’m all about the the sweat rosin sunscreen combo yeah that’s it’s fun first pitch misses low in away and the count is one and0 did you ever have any teammates we’re not going to name names did you ever have any teammates that tried to be chemists to find the stickiest attack they could possibly get yeah there was there was some people around the league that had that would make a special stuff that when you went to that clubhouse you would you would get it pitch was a called strike and the one-1 misses low and away two balls in a strike on Connor Nor so I didn’t like my my hands sticky especially my my thumb when my thumb got sticky it was bad one pitch just popped foul right side get the seats out of play two and two cuz I was a guy that tucked my thumb under the fast ball so like the seams would sit on the on the inside part of my thumb and if that got sticky I had control issues two is fouled back to back stop that was a 96 mph fast ball from the Hidear Fentes upstairs remains two and two but someone in the minor leagues brought some uh some spider tac and I mess around with that and I don’t even know how you release a ball from your hand with that like ripping off skin from your fingertips two two that one line down the left field line that’s twisting foul and it one hops its way number two one of the Marlins ball boys wearing the special Flanigans jersey flanigan’s fest tomorrow here at the ballpark special thief Flanigan jersey available with a ticket package 22 is a bouncing ball foul left side were you a Flanigans guy you could probably find a lot of the uh ingredients that go into one of those sticky uh sticky recipes for pitchers at Flanigan that one lined into right field that is in for a base hit connor swing looking sharp right now that’s a one out single and the eight hitter for the Marlins aboard here in the bottom of the fourth yeah I see he’s been putting in a lot of work early work i saw on a few games that they were highlighting that and there’s been a couple balls that he’s hit that were even for outs that were stung pretty good i know Trey Turner he went a Trey Turner was it last night I believe that was that was stung off the bat pretty well I think so and uh I felt like Yeah he’s he’s on the right track uh just has to stay right there not not to get over frustrated whenever that happens to him eberto Hernandez swings and misses underneath a 96 mph fast at the top of the zone counts nothing and one one away in the bottom of the fourth marlins up 4-1 on the Braves yeah for Norby hits in four of his last five games we’ve seen it the last couple of days he’s walking swing looks more comfortable and he talked to both of us Jack and I about being more patient at the plate and he was uh a harsh critic on himself during that conversation one pitch has to wait snap throw over to first base and Norby back in diving safely this is a guy that is going to hold himself to a higher standard than anybody else is going to hold him to so that that’s a great thing but also can be the reason for you not be able to perform as well i mean I I was the same way man oh one pitch hernandez pops it up back and foul behind home that is falling just underneath us into the top of the 100 level the count is nothing and two mentioned Flanigan’s fest tomorrow we’ve got the special ticket package that includes a Marlins featured Flanigan’s jersey but how about a Flanigan Cup or Marlins and Flanigan’s Cup collab and the first 15,000 people here tomorrow 02 a little dribbler foul in front of the plate that kicked off Hernandez I think in his rib kick so he he rubbed that and the count remains 0 and2 hey Marlins fans Major League Baseball is partnering with Crisis Text Line to increase mental health awareness free 247 confidential support in English and Spanish text MLB to 741741 that’s nothing and two on Hernandez with Norby at first diddier Fuentes the 20-year-old writing for Atlanta fires the O2 and Hernandez lifts that one high in the air a mile high in a shallow right akuna breaks in and he makes the catch round number two sends Norby back to first base and the lineup card back top Xavier Edwards for the third time still nobody warming for Atlanta nobody warming for the Marlins either quentes at 69 pitches debut was nice before the three-run home run from Augustine Ramirez the third first pitch from Fentes to X again has to wait for check on Norby he’s back in diving safely new England’s got their first run on an RBI single from Liam Hicks in the second braves played their run last half inning rbi knock from Matt Olson first pitch now to X Edwards takes a breaking ball low for ball one i mean so far I I really like his stuff i like his curve ball really like his fast ball we’re talking about his fast ball like the profile on it and the way it jumps on hitters and the ride on it it’s an elite fast ball um and he seems to be learning how to throw even that slider off that curve ball as well like he’s pitch curve ball and a called strike on the lower outside corner one and one that’s a back door curve ball as well that’s that’s not an easy pitch to to throw um so he’s he’s starting to come along so what’s the next step for a guy like this is being able to recognize the swings off of it be able to to recognize like when to throw which pitch and to throw it consistently one is another curve ball that misses low and in two and one how much can you trust a catcher to guide through that obviously he has first rider or refusal and only rider refusal he can shake until he gets his pitch he can say no I want to throw a fast ball we’ve seen him do that so far today but how much faith do you think a guy like is putting into Shawn Murphy i I think I mean I’d say a lot honestly two-1 misses up and out three balls in the strike i’ve only seen seen him shake once and building off that I’d be curious murphy caught yesterday how much of Brian Snickers’s decision to play Shawn Murphy today was because of a guy making his major league debut instead of a rookie catcher 3-1 that one hit high in the air it was a middle middle fast ball that X got underneath and Michael Harris is there he makes the catch and that ends the inning fly out to center and Dier Fuentes great moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line with go crazy folks goes crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 9/11 your moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com Visit mlbbyshop.com the official source for your Miami Marlin side aj Ramos calling his first game at Lone Depot Park steven Stum not calling his first game at Lone Depot Park jack McMullen we’re in the top of the fifth inning it’s 41 fish over the Atlanta Braves an RBI single from Liam Picks a three-run home run from Augustine Ramirez the run production for Miami 78 and nine du up against Jansen Junk who starts a fifth inning be Murphy Harrison Allen who we set down one two three and third guy to reach against Junk was the lead off manuna second time up pitch to Murphy is rolled foul third base side nothing one he was trying to jump all over that fast ball he didn’t want to strike out again so he’s like let me just put the ball in play right here he’s like if he throws me a fast ball I’m hacking Murphy struck out swinging on that upstairs slider the pitch that Junk has uh been executing today a one pitch that one misses low a slider bottomed out one and one we’re four innings in four innings and two pitches into you sitting in an entirely different part of the ballpark one murphy rolls one sharply over to Otto that ate him up that hit off the leather he knocked it down a little bit but it dribbled into shallow left center field and Murphy aboard on what should surely be scored a single yeah it looked like like Otto was he kind of uh didn’t concentrate and look the ball all the way to his glove right there he was like he was going to catch it and make a move towards first base to throw to throw uh Riley out right there or Murphy out right there um just didn’t finish the play right there hit off his glove now the infield shifting michael Harris is in and that is in for a called strike a fast ball at 94 officially scored a single up out of Shawn Murphy otto gave it a go but it was beyond ordinary effort you came out of that bullpen in left field so many times at this ballpark and you threw on that mount for one pitch is fouled back what’s it like sitting in an entirely different part of this ballpark AJ R uh less stressful uh um no see I was talking to I was uh talking to someone about this earlier you know when I was I was on that mound I didn’t look anywhere else but the plate right I was so hyperfocused on that so being on this perspective two fouled straight down and that rolls back back stop count remains nothing and two on Harris seeing the full game seeing the full field of play is a different perspective than I ever had before obviously so this is really cool to actually learn even more about about the game because I’m focused on everything instead of just pitching the two pitch Harris reached for that he sends a little bouncer just in front of the mound junk picks it up he lofts it to first and that just beat the sprinting Harris in the bag junk got the only out he could get so it functions like a sacrifice but it is a one to three put out junk off the hill in front of it the first baseman hits and with Murphy at second that brings up Nick Allen with one away in the top fifth i think Junk threw that backup slider to first base right there it was somewhere between that and an ephus man that to me I could never toss a ball like that i would throw that in the stands that pitch is in for a called strike to Nick Allen a slider on the inside corner were you one of those guys that threw 90 95 off the mound of the first base bag like you were ready to throw it like you were pitching no it I mean it was just full intent it was never like lobbing it for one pitch this is upstairs one and one it was never like a lob it was setting my feet replacing my feet and giving like a an infielder type throw i wouldn’t like burn it over there but it would be firm enough i think we talked about this didn’t you drop your arm slot a little bit throw over i did 1-1 that one hit out to right center field sanchez got a good break on that he makes the catch and Murphy not going to try at second base sanchez’s throw came back in towards third but the short stop lopez cut it off and there are two away now on that line out to right center sanchez has a good throwing arm as well but it looks a little bit different than Akunia’s arm from out there just a little bit and Akuna can swing it too ronald Akuna Jr is one for two today he hits now with a runner aboard junk set at the belt his first pitch akuna reaches for and he flicks it foul right side that was at his shoe tops and he still managed to get decent wood on that well that tells me he was looking for that pitch he was looking for that that uh slider and he felt like he was going to jump it right there but luckily it was far enough out of the zone our our friends at FanDuel Sports Network just flashed a number on the monitor and it blew my mind junk throws a ball into center field murphy dove back into second base on a pickoff attempt and Jansen Junk he yanked that throw the second baseman Edwards was covering the bag and as it rolled into center Murphy popped up he had no idea that it was in center field and probably best not to test Meyers anyways so it’s all uneventful well and then the big play right there I don’t think he would have advanced anyway but but Edwards was beaking him out by putting act like he was maybe going to put a tag on him to make him think he had the ball and keep him there i don’t think he would have advanced on that anyway but it was still heads up play by Edward one pitch akuna fouls it back the count is nothing and two on the monitor I I saw a number and it’s really hard to fathom granted Akuna’s only played 24 games so far this year but he has a hard hit rate so percentage of batted balls that leave the bat at 95 miles an hour or harder 02 pitch misses low oh and Akunia does a little sodto shuffle after taking that pitch in the dirt akunia has a hard hit rate over 50% on each of the three types of offerings fast balls his hard hit rate’s about 60% breaking balls his hard hit rate is about 50% and off speed like change ups and splitters his hard hit rate is 75% one two is a little dribbler down the third baseline norby plucks it and he puts the throw in his back pocket he pretty much pump faked over to third and that was not hard hit but Ronald Duna Jr is aboard on an infield single he’s two for three and there are runners at the corners with two gone for Alex Verdugo that’s why I mentioned before like you have to change your pattern like you can’t go all right slider slider fast ball if you got him out that’s how you got him out last time you do that same pattern he’s going to get you because he can hit all pitches there so you have to switch zones pitch backwards sometimes pitch traditional some other times and just mix and match so that he doesn’t get because once he gets the feel of the the plan that you’re trying to go against him he’s going to jump you pitch here to Berdugo he swings and misses at a curveball nothing in one when you think best hitters in baseball just by a matchup perspective like I don’t know how to game plan for this guy where is he is he top five he’s top five for sure top five for sure 01 that one missed inside low and in that got away from Augustine who was trying to frame it on the lower inside corner but not far enough away to allow anybody to advance a base so Murphy stays put at third and Akuna is at first other guys that jump out would it be mean like a judge right yeah judge obviously but I still think that there’s a game plan against him that you can execute more often than not with Akuna again you have to spot it differently 1-1 verdugo pops it up left side foul ground could be playable long run for Norby but that’ll get into the seats and out of play one and two you know like facing Luis Arise when there’s a man on on second base that would be tough because you know he’s going to make contact with it so you’re trying to go for weak contact so that’s a guy that’s like “All right man you gota I don’t know how you make your pitches here.” Uh Steven Quan is another guy that’s that’s tough jose Ramirez those are guys that put the bat on the ball um that’d be hard to game plan whenever there’s you know runners in scoring position funny the first three names you mentioned as Akuna is off and running that pitch misses outside and Augustine Pock hits the throw akuna with a head first dive is in with his second stolen base on the year the runners second and third now on the count of two and two on Verdugo the first three guys you mentioned Louisa Rice Steven Quan Ronald Duna Jr one of them has hit 40 homers the other guys are lucky to get five homers yeah well for me I was never afraid to face homer guys that hit homers 22 is fouled back and the count remains two and two with two in scoring position and two out in the top of the fifth because even with like judge their swing and miss if you can throw a slider away yeah if you don’t execute that slider away it’s going to leak towards the that his go zone he’s going to hit it out on you akuna like he’s a guy that can hit a ball that’s out over the zone like that you know 22 verdugo bounces one over to second base a shoulder high hop to X he’s got it and he throws to first to Strand two in scoring position jansen Chunk weasels his way out let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term next phrase is oppo taco do you light with O’Reilly’s Ferris skin the service is free and provides a report with solutions verified by ASC certified master technicians ask for O’Reilly Bariscan today ddier Fuentes back out there for the bottom of the fifth inning he spins a curveball in for a called strike to Jesus Sanchez count nothing in one it’s 4-1 Marlins the bottom of the fifth the big blow in this one a three-run blast to the seats and left from Augustine Ramirez sanchez bounces one of the forehand of the second baseman Albbies he’s got it venturing into shallow right he sets his feet and fires the first in time to get Sanchez there’s one away for Dier Fuentes in the fifth and now he sees Lopez well it looks like Clayton McCulla after Jansen Junk came out gave uh him a firm handshake and said “Great job young man you’re done.” Shoulder rub as well and you see Ronnie Enriquez warming up at the Marlins bullpen so Enriquez will get the sixth otto takes a cold strike from Fuentes nothing and one meanwhile Brian Snitker is letting a guy who turned 20 years old three days ago pitch into the fifth with a fully rested bullpen on his in called strike nothing and two ddier Fuentes just threw his 78th pitch of the night there is action in the Braves bullpen lefty Aaron Bummer is up and Otto pops it foul behind the plate uh Shawn Murphy sheds the mask and he makes the catch behind the dish right in front of the bra right in front of the back stop harden and there are two men gone a little bounce out to second and a pop out to the catcher in foul ground have two quick outs for the 20-year-old Ddier Fuentes and now Fuentes is going to get one final go at Augustine Ramirez pitch augustine takes a call strike 98 on the outer edge foot his knows that this might be his last hitter problem oh one pitch that one misses upstairs yeah that and he’s mad that he gave up a homer to him so I can imagine that he’s definitely wanting to get some payback for that on the thing he’s quote unquote not good at one-1 pitch augustine takes outside he yanked the four seed two and one that ball was in the other batter’s box he’s pitching like a 20-year-old right now he is he is he’s letting it He’s letting the the dog eat right now one pitch a bouncing ball foul i’m stunned he went back to a breaking ball to be honest the count two and two he threw a first pitch curveball that Augustine ambushed his last time up i was expecting full fast ball dosage two two is a fast ball fouled back and the back swing of Augustine just knocked the uh catcher’s mask off of Shawn Murphy back swing got Murphy and Augustine apologizes to his fellow catcher they flashed a smile at each other said “Come on man you don’t got to swing so hard.” And Augustine I guarantee is also saying “Hey keep playing because I want that NL Rookie of the Year award.” Yeah keep holding out of the lineup keep swinging it Sean ball boy having a conversation with going on down there anony’s a good hang two men out base is empty bottom of the fifth and the two-2 ramirez takes a splitter blowing in and the count runs full oh remember I asked I was like it I I read summer he threw a splitter 32 that one fouled back 98 fuentes letting it eat both of these guys are so Fuentes is throwing as hard as he can and Ramirez is swinging as hard as he can knocking catchers masks off this is like two young guys just going at it let’s see who’s going to win this one right here counts full got Kyle Sters waiting on deck payoff that one lined over to Alb’s little bunny hop right into his glove he catches the liner and that is a one two three inning for Diddier Fuentes take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager spent the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i the top of the sixth inning and Ronnie Enriquez is in the ball game for Miami so Jansen Junk is done lake Mapella will rely on the bullpen rest the way got four innings to cover enriquez is seeing Austin Riley first pitch riley takes upstairs for ball one that was a sweeper from Enriquez ronnie happy birthday man 25 years old happy birthday Ronnie Enriquez native of the Dominican Republic his 32nd appearance as Riley pops one into left field that’s hanging up kyle Sters is tracking into left center he makes the catch on his backhand he tracked it down and there’s one away a line out to left off the bat of Riley and now Enriquez sees Matt Olsen it’s an extended on base streak to 21 games enriquez has struggled a little bit in the month of June but we’ve talked about it time and time again there’s closer stuff in his right arm pitch to Olsen is a hard ground ball to the forehand of the second baseman Edwards he’s got it and he flicks it to first quickly throw two away in the top of the sixth yeah when you’re struggling like that you want to get as many outs as fast as possible because a lot of times like things start to overthink things a little bit and you go through go through spurts uh when you’re out there you know just like a hitter goes through a slump pitchers go through slumps as well i’ve been watching him he’s been throwing a little bit too many like balls he isn’t consistent with landing that sweeper slider and his fast ball’s kind of spraying pitch to Marcelo Zuna just misses the top rail of the strike zone at 97 and it counts one and0 so yeah just getting back to his game plan um you know his stuff’s still there he just went through one of those those tough periods during the season pitch that one called strike 97 are you a little surprised as an all-star closer yourself this guy from a velocity and and just stuff perspective as one of the best four seamers in baseball just looking at what he does on one pitch that one is popped up right side foul out of play at one and two are you surprised he doesn’t go to it more no you’re not no do you think mask it the way he does yeah i mean I like the way he pitches until until the league adjusts to that and then that’s when you make it which that’s maybe what what’s happening is the league is adjusting to like all right he’s he’s going to this pitch in this count and two check swinging a pitch low and it was did not go around two and two because you always have that in your back pocket you know what I mean you can always fall back on that and maybe one of the reasons why you know he wasn’t having as much success there for that that spurt was because he wasn’t landing his fast balls for strike consistently two two pitch now on a bouncing ball foul bird face side a slider so the fast ball right now kind of functions as if he’s commanding it like a get out of jail free card because he throws the slider more than he throws the fast everything is good out of his hand he has a lot of movement and everything two two sweeper missed blow and away and the count runs full on Ozuna with Alb’s waiting on deck alb’s a switch hitter you prefer for him to hit left-handed 3-2 that one hit well out to center field in deep meyers is back at the track at the wall he leaps dne pulled it back but it drops it drops in the field of play ozuna has a double but Dane unbelievably just took two bases away from him he took a homer back but he flicked the ball forward back into the outfield brass oh my god so it was like he reached back with every inch of his arm that he had and the ball landed in his glove but then it it almost like Oh my god bounced off the back is is crazy again Dane Meyers in a year with so many ridiculous plays might have made the best one if he held on to that he took a homer away from Ozuna but that ball came out of his glove i was calling the field the ball left in play it’s a crew chief review dane Meyers had that ball in his leather when he pulled it back from beyond the wall and as he was coming down his momentum of the arm swing knocked that ball out of his glove so this will surely be a double that was in and out of DNE’s glove but he took a home run away ozuna standing at second with a double but that is ridiculous and that’s a that’s a tremendous play in its own right yeah that What are they reviewing though guys i guess they wanted to make sure it didn’t hit it didn’t hit any part of side of the fence they want to make sure if his glove was technically over the wall when this ball popped out it would be a home run and it’s close but because and it really looks like on first look and on these replay looks it looks like his glove was back in the field of play when that ball popped out of the leather well after review the call on the field is confirmed the ball is in play the battle runner will remain at second base yeah okay well and then secondly Ozuna was like standing on first base when Dne brought that back i was he like walking did he back flip no he back flipped okay he admired his work and then he and then he sprinted to second base after that oh man that was 406 ft that was a homer but Zane made it a double so Ozuna at second it’s 41 Marlins in the top of the sixth then with two away it’s Alb’s ozie Albz takes 98 upstairs he did not go around on a check swing and the count is one and0 yeah O look at him he’s Ozunu was he was loving it and uh Oh he still didn’t even sprint to second base by the way he’s He’s scurrying he didn’t sprint he scurryed one pitch having a roller foul right side one and one ozuna’s got the stride length of my daughter who is who is three years old they’re like my my little crusty white dog at home yeah or or you know how you run when you have slippers on that you don’t want to fall off short strikes yeah 1-1 that one cut on and missed good sweeper and Alb’s out in front and he swung over the top of a dirt bound breaking ball he counts one and two tell you what if Ozuna doesn’t come in to score this inning Dane Myers is the MVP of the inning enriquez set his one-two pitch is cut on and missed it is a sweeper and Albby swung over the top of it they strand a man at second and a delayed Dane time take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com marlins Radio Network the bottom of the sixth inning it’s 4-1 Marlins and Diddy Fuentes his major league debut has come and gone the line is closed on him the 20-year-old right-hander for Atlanta making his big league debut tonight went five innings he allowed four runs on six hits he punched out three walked just one as a 20-year-old making his big league debut with a big blow a three-run home run off the bat of Augustine Ramirez he makes way for the left-hander Aaron Bummer 31-year-old from Valencia California was a Husker 19th round pick of the White Socks in 2014 out of the University of Nebraska his first pitch to Kyle Sters misses high and tight that was a sinker at 91 bummer this year his 26th appearance got a 2.86 erra lefty Bummer his 10 pitch kyle takes low and away that again was a sinker and the whole deal with Bummer he’s going to roll ground balls as well as any bullpen arm in Major League Baseball well he has that really low arm slot that creates that run for that sinker that will create ground balls two pitch at a called strike sinker at the top of the zone two and one it it it kind of hurts my shoulder just watching him throw he kind of slings it up there man it’s crazy bummer working off the third base side of the rubber it uh it’s kind of close to if you inverse Anthony Bender like it looks a lot like Bender but left hand two-1 pitch that one misses low and away a sinker three and one get Sters Meyers Hicks in the bottom of the sixth kyle so far today has doubled and scored the first run of the game in the second he bounced out to second in the third 3-1 a dribbler foul right side and the count runs full on Sters bummer sinker sweeper the Arsenal in 2021 he put up a ridiculous season in 2021 and this guy at a 35 RA but that’s not the number that stands out 3-2 misses Lowen in a curve ball that’s the lead off walk is shoot to Kyle Sters aaron Bummer in 2021 with the White Socks opponents slugged 250 against him the ground ball rate against him major league average ground ball rate 42% ground ball rate against him that year was 77% in 56 and a3 innings 77% ground ball rate jeez first pitch to Dane Meyers he does not even load and he takes a curveball low i think the Marlins are going to force Bummer to find the strike zone i’m calling this inning the tack on inning sure okay bottom of the six calls for tacking on who’s Baritone do it do it it’s so good one pitch when cutting the miss dane falls to his back knee on a curveball he was way out in front kind of cork screwed himself into the ground thump had to clean the plate for that one d flashing a smile like “Yeah I appreciate you giving me a second.” Yeah thank you you’re getting into your bag right now 4-1 fish in the bottom of the sixth and the 1-1 myers lays off curve ball low and in two balls in a strut back in action tomorrow afternoon late afternoon early evening that’s late afternoon right yuri Perez gets the ball against Grant Holmes sunday in the series finale bryce Helder against Sandy Alro 2-1 spinning curve ball missing outside backto-back free ball counts the fingertips of Karen Bummer you see what Grant Holmes did last outing 15ks you see the final score no I think they lost 10-1 to the Rocky yeah let me pull up that game it’s a good rock team pretty 3-1 pitch misses upstairs ball four back-to-back walks issued to Sters and Meyers here to open the bottom of the sixth and I kind of like Steven’s theory about And look who’s coming up to bat eric Wackman is going to pinch hit it for Liam Hicks here against the lefty Bummer i think that’s the line Vince Scully used for Kirk Gibson so that was uh is good pitching coach Rick Cranets is out to give Bummer the scouting report on Wagaman i know Steven views Kirk Gibson in that situation and Eric Wagaman in this situation pretty similarly uh Grant Holmes his last time out I think you’re right punched out 15 Rockies but I do want to double check that score it was It was a hard game to fathom holmes last time out six and a third three hits three runs he punched out 15 on June 15th for the final score the Rockies won 10-1 rockies put up six in the seventh and three more in the eighth against Inel de los Santos and Jos Ruiz missed inside a sweeper and the count is one and0 on Wagamin with runners first and second and nobody else was that in Colorado no that was in Atlanta what cuz I would understand the crooked number in Colorado but not the case both runners kind of got off and moving sters was ready to take off to start a double steel but Sters made his way about two steps into the steel then shut it down and Bummer just watched him scurry back second base back bummer stepped off and the count is one and0 and the pitchman rolls foul third base side nearly clipped Blake Lai but he got out of the way and that bounced back by the camera well Jeremy Tache flashes a thumbs up like we’re good jeremy filling in for Kelly Sacko on the TV side kelly was with us the last four games against Philadelphia one that one flicked down the left field line that is in for a base hit and that’s rolling all the way to the wall sters jogs in from second meyers sprints in from first and Eric Wagaman with a two-run pinch hit double verdugo in left field is throwing both his hands up right now he’s saying that got stuck in the corner and that will send Meyers back to third base if that is the case it’s still an RBI double for Wagaman but if two runs did come in to score it’s 61 Marlins in the bottom of the sixth inning and that ball got lodged underneath the padded wall verdugo picked it out of the padded wall and then threw his hands up no I I feel like if you throw your hands up you can’t touch the ball correct and if you do then it is playable so he Yeah he picked up the ball then threw up his hands and threw the ball in they’re going to talk about this boys they’re absolutely going to talk about this verdugo can’t do that if he plays the ball like that and picks it out then yeah it’s a live ball that ball was lodged under the padded wall atlanta selling that with the ball was stuck underneath the padding out in left field and and okay that was the crew chief Lance Barksdale here’s the thing it was in the corner in left field it was stuck under the padded wall what Alex Verdugo does there to create a ground rule double and keep Meyers at third base is throw his hands up and not touch the baseball but because he touched the baseball and threw it back in and then threw his hands up that should be a two-run double that should be a live ball yeah i mean I’ve seen guys where the ball wasn’t all the way stuck and they threw their hands up and they had to honor it you know so like right there he stuck his hands up then ran and pulled it out cuz the ball was stuck and he threw it so you normally want to just leave that ball there so Meyers is either at third base if this call is overturned or he scored if it stands assuming it stands it’s 6-1 Marlins in the bottom of the sixth inning if not it’d be 5-1 with runners at second and third how about Steven and his tack on inning shout of course it was Wags that put the exclamation point on it you mean Kirk Gibson yes that was a shot i mean just for Wags obviously didn’t start today coming off the bench in a big time spot against the South Park yeah that’s huge no doubt at the review the was overturned the ball was stuck one run was scored the battle runner runners will be placed at second and third really bunch of malarkey atlanta will retain their I mean I’ll have to dive into the rule book but that’s that’s hard to believe verdugo picked it out well maybe because he did throw his hands up first and then took it out maybe that’s why that they’re honoring it but yeah I mean you just kind of prove that it wasn’t that stuff for you not to be able to play it so it’s an RBI ground rule double and Conor Norby sprays one foul right side and into the seats out of play rbi pinch hit double for Wagman it’s 5-1 Marlins here in the bottom of the sixth inning sters came in to score from second meyers is at third now the infield in a one pitch to Connor is again line foul right side in the end of the seats nothing at two so Wagman at second Meyers at third nor be the hitter connor is one for two today nobody out and this could still very well be a crooked number two from Bummer one misses upstairs it’s 91 miles an hour but feels hotter it looks a lot harder than 91 yeah it’s got to be the arm angle and the way he slings it just seems like it’s a little bit It gets firmer than that two sweeper did Connor check his swing yes he did they count two and two on a pitch the miss inside they need to do like real feel in baseball like real feel outside it could be 92 feels like 97 perceived velocity like uh like we have in Williamsport right a 68 mph fast that was my favorite thing to look at on the score 102 two two pitch that a line diving grab by Riley and his dive took him right to the third base bag as unlucky a double play ball as you will find it was hit well on a line by Norby riley who has gotten better defensively every year in his career dove to grab that ball and again his dive slapped the leather right on the third base bag before Meyers could get back to it that is a line out and a five unassisted double play wagamman still at second but there are two men gone in the bottom of the sixth another hard hit ball by Norby someone needs to go sage his locker maybe sage his bats here’s pitch to Eric Barberto Hernandez a chopping ground ball up the middle ranging to the forehand the shorts stop Allen he throws and that is on target in time to get Hernandez and end the inning nice play by Riley the big hits all the great brats you got to be kidding me and all the swagger relive the day’s biggest plays all in one lightning fast hour oh my goodness show you better believe it quick pitch late nights and early mornings only on MLB Network moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line it may go go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game behind the three-2 on a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or man said to follow i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 9/11 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com bfm HD2 Fort Lauderdale three never sounded so good all right top of the seventh here at Lone Depot Park marlins have a 5-1 lead over the Braves steven Trump Jack McFone AJ Ramos really good game in Philadelphia the Phillies have a 2-1 lead over the New York Mets in the top of the six alonzo did just hit a home run again that game is 2 to one nationals and Dodgers first of three at Dodgers Stadium this is old school vers new school fellas mckenzie Gore takes on Clayton Kershaw kershaw enters Friday’s start just 12 strikeouts away from 3000 and with seven strikeouts Friday night McKenzie Gore can leap frog Garrett Crochet for the strikeout lead thank you very much Stephen they’ve been doing that all season long and that’s actually a pretty cool game from a narrative perspective tyler Phillips is into the contest it’s 5-1 fish in the top of the seventh the sinker at 96 misses inside to Shawn Murphy mckenzie Gore was the third overall pick the San Diego Padres’s out of high school the winning Gatorade National Player of the Year pitch that went a ground ball foul third base side and the count is one and one mckenzie Gore you know was a lefty with a really good slider and that quote unquote Coopertown curveball that Clayton Kershaw has thrown the entirety of his career one-1 pitch that one lifted out to left field pretty deep but playable for Kyle Sters he moves in after drifting back and he makes the catch there’s one away you know it’s an unfair comp but a lot of people were dreaming of Clayton Kershaw light with McKenzie Gore out of high school and it took him a while but now he looks like one of the best strikeout artists in baseball so Gore and Kershaw is a cool one and has to be really cool for Mackenzie Gore tyler Phillips seeing Michael Harris the second and Harris drills the ball out to right field that’s carrying and that hits off the top of the wall stays in play harris barreling towards second base and the throw coming back in is not in time so Michael Harris just missed a homer by 2 in but he’s aboard with a one out double yeah that ball was hit 108 mph off the bat that hit the very corner of the wall to stay in sanchez had a good throw in right there played it perfectly off the wall but Harris speed is is too fast honestly if that was an inch higher that might have bounced o on top of the wall and then over the wall it would have skipped it would have skipped and uh probably would have landed in someone’s lap in the outfield he might have literally missed a homer by an inch he’s at second base and Nick Allen it’s a called strike a sinker got nothing in one harris hot shot double off the top of the wall in right it’s a higher wall in line with the fencing of the Braves bullpen a one pitch from Phillips allen takes low away tyler Phillips comes in after Ronnie Enriquez spun a scoreless six couple of hard hit balls marcelo Zuna nearly had a homer but Dane Meyers made it a double last inning and Al Harris with nearly a homer but it’s a double in the seventh 1-1 allen hits high in the air down the right field line shallow right field sanchez coming on wagman working back eric Wagman reaches out he makes the catch he fires to third base throw offline a little bit harris did tag and push to third but there are two gone on a nice play by Wagaman who remained in the game as the first baseman yeah that’s a tough play because you’re you’re looking up and you’re trying to figure out where the wall is and then on top of that you’re there’s a net right there that makes it even tougher so that if it goes into the crowd you can’t really just reach over and grab it so that’s a great play and also you know I mean we tried to make a throw to third base there but it was a tough play i mean get that out first is is most first and foremost now Tyler Phillips seeing Ronald Akuna Jr it’s 5-1 Fish in the top of the seventh they appeal to second base to see if Harris left early and uh second base umpire tonight John Bacon will have the plate on Sunday says nope so Harris at third two men out marlins up by four the first pitch check swing and a little roller over to second base that is no problem for Xavier Edwards akuno hardly left the batters box before he was tossed out at first to end the inning he’s frustrated but it’s time to stretch tyler Phillips spins a scoreless seventh beaches.com the seventh inning of Island Baseball is being brought to you by Xfinity it’s your powerful seriously reliable Wi-Fi with low lag for a smooth connection xfinity the Wi-Fi is booming low lag big wag come on come on you got the nice from Amed Jordan who’s handling things in studio with King in there as well king’s doing a great job he’s on his like third episode of Spongebob uh Blueie and Blueie my understanding is Blueie episodes are only about six minutes long is your kid a Bluey fan AJ no no not yet not yet first pitch from Aaron Bummer to Xavier Edwards here in the bottom of the seventh misses low and in for ball one it’s 5-1 Marlins in the home half of the seventh top third up against Bummer in his second inning of work x Sanchez Lopez pitch with a sinker low and the count is 2 and0 on X who’s one for three today yeah my understanding is you they’re literally like six minutee long episodes and conflict arises conflict solved episode over ah two pitch Mrs low that sounds a lot like my day every day just real life yeah no my my daughter likes the old school blues blues really she she loves it so much that she makes us buy her striped green shirts that’s awesome she goes by Steve she goes by I swear i swear creo pitch misses outside that’s a four pitch walk issue to open the seventh to Xavier Edwards i’m like “Hey Luna get off of that i’m not Luna i’m Steve.” I’m like “Oh okay your daughter’s two years old she’s going to be three in September.” So I got her right two years old yeah two years old yeah you’re lucky I didn’t give you the months you’re right you’re right she’s uh Yeah she’s 33 months she’s 33 months 33 month old um your daughter goes by Steve nice it’s funny jesus Sanchez in a left on left match up takes low and away for ball one that is fun pal is great yeah she’s Yeah she loves it so like she goes to this little school and they’re like “All right everybody say your name.” And then like “All right.” She gets up she’s like “Oh what’s your name?” And Luna stands up and says “I’m Steve.” And we’re like “No her name is Luna.” Know the pitch to Sanchez is a sinker in there the cult strike at 89 miles an hour so the count is one and one on Sanchez who is 0 for three today and seeing a tough matchup tough customer in Bummer and one rudder on the move that misses low and Murphy just pump fakes behind the plates xavier Edwards to the stolen base lucky number 13 on the year for him in 19 attempts the Marlins have their leadoff man in scoring position looking to tack on another they lead 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh you mentioned earlier that he hasn’t stole that many bases and I I wonder how much of that had to do with his back issue that he was having yeah it seems I mean he got a really good jump right there it seems like it’s maybe feeling better for him two-1 pitch sanchez waited back and he lines the ball into right field akuna makes the catch and X could not tag up ronald Akuna broke back initially but he got to the spot to grab that liner that was a nice piece of hitting by Jesus Sanchez but Akunia took a knock away from him yeah it was hit 105 you stay back on that curveball and back spun it out there that was It’s one of those tough luck things but I as a hitter I mean I maybe they don’t feel this way but I would feel like good making that type of contact consistently like that brian Snicker after that comes out to take the ball from Aaron Bummer so we do have a pitching change we’re in the bottom of the seventh pierce Johnson will enter the ball game and we will step aside 60 seconds for this let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means oppo taco a home run hit to the opposite field boston taco his 13th and it’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards crazy catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com to one drop drives it to right castanos looks up backto back bombs for the Mets first Alonzo now McNeel we are square it is 22 in the top of the six a low screamer into the seats two rows back over the high wall and right for McNeel jeff McNeel with the shot but now Otto Lopez singing game for the Braves pierce Johnson spins and looks Xavier Edwards back the bag at second there’s one away in the bottom of the seventh in our game it’s 5-1 Marlins over the Braves thank you very much Stephen Stum pierce Johnson the former Cub former Rocky the Atlanta Braves fires the first pitch to Otto and that the curveball at 86 that spins the outside corner a called strike nothing and one johnson debuted with the Cubs in 2017 and threw with the Giants went to Japan for the 2019 season came back with the Padres’s a one pitch from Johnson to Lopez check swing did he go answer is yes with a little at first base said Otto chased a curve ball again off the lower outside edge the count is nothing and two here’s Johnson this year 28 appearances of a has a 35 erra punched out 28 and walked seven go to pitch auto laid off the curve ball low and away he started a fire on it he uh literally has a plan of attack Johnson does against Lopez one for three today on air his first time singing and scored in third popped out and foul ground catcher in the fifth Here he is in the seventh next at second ready for the one-two and Lopez smothers one into the ground left side the third baseman Riley charges he throws on the run it is not in time brian Sniter holding his hand up saying “Wait just a minute now.” And Snit will not challenge Otto Lopez it wasn’t hard hit but he has a multi-hit effort yes great hustle down the line right there he’s getting it yeah so Pierce Johnson is Look up the number to make sure he is 69% curveball so he just just throws curve balls up there it’s uh Tommy Canley you know was about 90% change up in the postseason last year for the Yankees first pitch here to Augustine Ramirez from Johnson with runners at the corners this is upstairs a fast ball at 95 oh no that was a called strike maybe a ball ball and a half above the top rail of the strike zone it’s Bartsdale gifts Johnson strike one there’s been two pitches that have been a almost a foot out there’s a phrase about making assumptions shouldn’t make assumptions anymore throw over to check on Otto and he’s back in diving safely at first base here’s Johnson you know if you got a curveball like that just do it all the time that’s what Charlie Morton does as a starting pitcher yeah you throw it till they hit it but one pitch to Augustine is fouled back back to back for Seamers at the top it is interesting though that a guy would be 70% curveball when he throws 96 miles an hour yeah that’s that’s different yeah a little bit should be switched i would think it’s switched but maybe they I mean he obviously has a plan it’s been working for him two Augustine fouls it back now to play well and it’s a hard curveball too it’s It’s 86 87 miles an hour normally curve balls sit at around like 80 81 82 and it’s hard to get that much drop on a pitch that hard but he somehow figured out a way to make that thing tumble quick well he spins it 2800 RPMs 02 that a curveball popped up foul ground first base side olsen towards the dugout railing and he watches that get into the seats not a play that remains nothing and two on Augustine with the Marlins up 51 in the bottom of the seventh action in the Marlins bullpen anthony Bender looking for a bounce back after surrendering an eighth inning homer to Kyle Schwarber last night in a 2-1 loss to the Phillies series finale of that four-game series but Johnson’s O2 is on the way one misses upstairs again grant Holmes and Yuri Perez tomorrow this is Yuri’s first uh start at home since coming back from Tommy John Surrey he made his season debut in Pittsburgh and then threw in Washington some home cooking for him one two Otto on the move that a hard ground ball that eats up Alb’s and dribbles into center field a run comes in to score lopez goes first to third augustine ripped the ball on the ground and he might have himself a four RBI day an RBI single and it’s 6-1 Marlins in the bottom of the seventh yeah that was a that was another curveball and away he was able to stay back on that and sting it up the middle it’s a great piece of hitting right there he’s seen the ball go up christine Ramirez with a multi-hit day and a four RBI day ground ball shot up the gut and that brings up Kyle Starders towers pops a foul left side not a play i like that they give him a single on that because you know Alb’s while it may have been glovable it was not an easy play by any means no cuz he was breaking towards the bag uh because Lopez was was running the the second so it made it a little bit easy or a little bit tough for him to to get a good beat on that ground ball especially when it I mean it was hit decent it was it was 95 off the bat he needed to slam on the brakes yeah oh one pitch that one misses high and tight the cutter at 93 and Sters kind of twirls out of the way and that was Augustine Ramirez’s second four RBI game of his career he did it when AJ Ramos was with us on May 28th in San Diego on a 10-8 victory that’s right nice that was the series finale I think 1-1 towers takes low two balls in a strike augustine with four RBI’s today has his run batted in total up to 27 he leapfrogs Liam Hicks and I’m pulling up the rookie leaderboard in terms of RBI’s right now augustine is near the top who’s leading jacob Wilson a two-1 pitch that one ripped foul right side two and two he’s playing in a minor league park i don’t think he’s sitting 359 it It really is unbelievable what this guy’s doing he’s running away with the rookie of the year honors i saw it first balloting in terms of all-star votes he’s getting more votes than Bobby Whit Jr i saw that i saw that too i saw Whit was second wasn’t he people like this kind of game man kyle Sters with a foul tip held on to by the catcher Murphy and Sters goes down swinging for the second out of the inning so there are runners at the corners and two men gone for Dane Meyers with a fish up 6 to1 jacob Wilson hitting .359 and slugging 510 but Wilson leading all rookies in RBI’s second it’s a tie between Cam Smith of the Astros augustine Ramirez now with 27 actually no coming into play it was a tie first pitch misses outside in sole possession to second place on the rookie leaderboard drum roll please and your National League RBI leader among rookies Wag Attack eric Wagaman leads all National League rookies he’s second among all rookies in Major League Baseball with 28 RBI’s augustine run driven in behind him pitch misses inside augustine tied for third among rookies and tied for second in the National League kim Smith the Houston Astros so has 27 jason Dominguez has 26 liam Hicks has 25 two pitch dane swings and misses good curve ball from Johnson and the count two and one and look who’s warming up in the bullpen guys robinson Pena is getting ready to make his major league debut he is contract selected before the game yesterday pena was a starter with Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp reading for a bullpen appearance 2-1 i went in for a called strike two and two your first three batters Verdugo Riley and Olsen interesting landing two on two gone two two to Dane is cut on and miss good curve ball i understand why he throws at it 70% of the time pierce Johnson spins one on Dane Meyers and he strands two take a hack at guessing which baseball player or maners had the following i really don’t know what to say i’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer we all did i mean it was a great game both teams played incredible it was a great game that’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go ahead home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911 hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith Clarks went into right down the line it may go crazy folks go crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the score of three to two the home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com every game night is a chance to go big with MLB Big Inn inning turn on baseball’s only nightly show that brings you the biggest plays of the night live and commercial free try him out no one stacks more clutch plays into one live show with up the four games on a single screen out of here he is a fire change up game night with baseball’s biggest game changer MLB Big Inning presented by Bet MGM every night all season long on MLB.TV top of the eighth inning for Atlanta a run on seven hits for the Marlins six runs on nine hits and we have a major league debut happening right now robinson Pena had his contract selected yesterday pena gets into the game for the first time as a major league hit 6’5 225 lbs the 26-year-old from San Crystal in the Dominican Republic was a starter with Jacksonville in 57 innings he had a 347 erra pa an exceptional Dominican winter league this winter his first pitch in the major leagues is 92 at the knees for a called strike it’s nothing and one pina the big body 26y old is seeing Verdugo Riley Olsen here in the top of the eighth with a fish up six a one pitch misses low a splitter and the count’s one and one pina was signed as an international free agent by the Angels he debuted in the Dominican Summer League as an 18-year-old in 2017 he was a late debuer in Pro Bowl 1-1 is just low a fast ball at 94 but climbed his way through the Angels system spent last year in the Phillies organization hit 25 starts at a 4-1 ERA for the most part in double A but a little bit in triple two-1 pitch pardon is cut on and missed a fast ball to the count two and two on Verdugo but again after a sensational lead winter season in the Dominican Republic with Estrellas the team in San Pedro de Marice 27 and the third innings for him there he had a 165 erra punched out 27 and walked just three inked a minor league free agent deal with the Marlins 22 is a little dribbler foul that might have deflected off of the new catcher into the game looks like Nick Forez is in doing the catching now is that Forez or is that Augustine forez 40s in yeah Forz is into the ball game the count remains two and two so Augustine done today 40 doing the catching and the 22 to Verdugo is sprayed foul left side again after that sensational Dominican winter league he was good as a jumbo shrimp in 57 innings he punched out 54 walked just 15 and give himself a shot robinson Pena even in the count 2-2 with Verdugo in his pitch is reached for it that a little ground ball over to second x has got it his throw to first in time and on target and that is the first out recorded in the major league career of Robinson Pinion that’s awesome get your first out in the big leagues man it’s It’s nothing it’s a great feeling right there well you said your first was a punch out right yeah it was struck out the side in your major league debut yeah that was uh it was a blackout moment for sure pitch to Austin Riley a slider misses low and away did you feel like you were fighting yourself from an execution perspective in your major league debut were you too amped up um I I was really amped up i just couldn’t feel my body it was weird here it’s a weird out of- body experience one pitch a good sinker off the lower inside corner but Pa gifted a strike and count one and one on Riley well it was so it felt like that when I was running out of the bullpin but once I got on the mound through the first pitch I was like “Okay this is baseball.” And then I I started getting a lot of swings and misses one one that one hammered out to center and deep meer back he’s looking up and that is gone austin Riley drills a baseball for a solo homer 110 off the bat and 430 ft out to the turf in straightaway center it’s 62 Marlins the top of the eighth i was just about to comment on his splitter and how good it looked and that one was just one of those ones that he started too high up in the zone and it broke right into the middle of the plate and honestly that’s when that’s where Olsen does damage a lot of guys do damage but especially Olsen right there uh yeah definitely a pitch he want back it was Riley’s 12th homer on the year and now Olsson takes a called strike and count is nothing one 109.6 off the bat for Austin Riley the next pitch to Olsen is bounced right back to the hill pena fielding his position he throws off the bag at first wagaman hops off the bag the foul side of the first base pillow and then runs it to the bag in time to get Olsen for a one- put out little more adventurous than it should have been but regardless it is out number two wagamin so nimble over there showing the athleticism he did play basketball so he did show off the vert a little bit do what’s his astrological sign do you know all this all this stuff about Wags first pitch to Marcelo Zunam misses outside for ball one did you guys sit down and you were like “Hey I played basketball did you?” And he said “Yeah.” Well I just asked him what he played growing up and it was more hockey in baseball but did play some wreck ball no one misses low and away a slider two and0 eric Wagman played hockey he did there’s a lot to that guy man i think I love him he’s like an artichoke that heartache two pitch oh fouled back that’s the Pink Panther line right you got to do a little digging before you get to the heart in artich choke okay i’ve never heard that yeah yeah no Pink Panther is the first one with Steve Martin really good flick i don’t know if I’ve seen that one two-1 pitch ozuna takes low and away three balls in a strike that song is Yes yeah nailed it aj’s Wow listen to you you put you put a headset on AJ Ramos and he will he’ll surprise you every night man 3-1 pitch ozuna span down the right field line into the corner jesus Sanchez tracking and he makes the catch on the move to end the inning robinson Pas first inning as a big leager is in the books austin 25 MLB draft combine get one-of-a-kind access to over 300 top prospects as we take you in the cage on the field and into the sky during six straight hours of live coverage plus exclusive interviews with the players who could become your team’s next superstar i play kicks for a while um I’ve kind of been flowy with my hands the 2025 MLB Draft Combine coverage continues right here on MLB Network let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term next phrase is oppo taco do you know what it means ao taco a home run hit to the opposite field austin with an oppo taco his 13th and it’s a one-run game expand your vocabulary by listening to every game on the MLB app and MLB.com moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921 smith courts went into right down the line it may go crazy folks so crazy it’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game by the start of three to two and a home run by the Wizards catch the next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com hoping this is the last time they come to the plate today it’s 62 fish over the Braves and a new arm into the ball game but before that AJ’s got another read last of the night for you finish strong summer’s in full swing and so is the action at Lone Depot Park catch the Marlins as they take on the Twins July 1st through the 3rd no rain delays here enjoy a week full of fun matchups and exciting promotions all under one roof get your seats now at marlins.com/tick crushed it yes dylan Dodd the left-hander into the contest for Atlanta and the lefty fires to Eric Wagaman and paints a fast ball for a called strike that was 93 on the outside edge nothing and one against 6-2 Marlins in the bottom of the eighth inning big blow tonight the three-run home run off the bat of Augustine Ramirez in the third one pitch that one misses up and out at 95 dylan Dodd 27year-old from El Grove Illinois debuted as a starter in 2023 with Atlanta one-1 pitch magan takes loan in two and one this year three and two/3 innings across five appearances out of the Braves bullpen this being his sixth he has yet to allow a run punched out three walked one and allowed just one hit three and two/3 two-1 pitch wagaman hits high in the air out to right pretty deep akuna tracking that into the corner ronald Akuna backs up at the last moment and on the track makes the catch over the shoulder for route number one it’s always an adventure out there with Akuna but he’s putting it away tonight i was wondering if he like lost it or something for a second that was weird he was just having fun i guess he got bored he’s bored he wanted to make that more challenging i don’t know if his team’s in a position for him to make it more challenging they’re down by four conor Norby seeing Dylan Dodd now first pitch norby swings and misses was looking at some of the scores around the league obviously Stephen has kept you up to date on the National League East but there’s a match up between the Brewers and the Twins which funny enough for the next two teams that the Marlins welcome in to Lone Depot Park when they come back a one pitch norby hits high in the air out to right that routine for Akuna he’s dancing underneath it and he makes the catch now route number two
