Reacting To Bleacher Report’s Mock Trade For Austin Reaves To The Detroit Pistons?

hey guys what’s going on anthony here with Pistons Talk hope you guys are having a great day so far in today’s video we’re going to be reacting to a bleacherreport.com article revolving around Austin Reeves and some possible teams that could trade for him the Pistons were actually mentioned in this article as a potential trade destination so we’re going to be looking at the trade package bleacher Report did put together their explanation and as always at the end of the video I’ll give you guys my overall thoughts and opinions on one this trade and two if it does make sense uh for the Detroit Pistons so let’s get into today’s video okay so the Pistons were number two out of the top five teams on this trade proposal list for Austin Reeves so their potential trade that they’re proposing is the Pistons would receive Austin Reeves in this mock trade the Lakers would receive Jaylen Duran Simony Fontio and the number 37th pick for him and here’s their explanation why they believe a Austin Region Detroit could be on the table for the Pistons it says “A playoff breakthrough should have the Pistons giddy about their future they might still want to accelerate though given the obvious readiness of all-star Cade Cunningham the lack of an obvious co-star for him a healthy Jade Navy wouldn’t necessarily fill that void and the wide openen nature of the Eastern Conference so one thing right here is I’ve had this conversation with you guys i’ve had this conversation um I feel like all year long we’re like the the Robin talks kade needs a number two option um they did mention you know a healthy Jaden Ivy would necessarily fill that void um you know for what it’s worth Jaden Ivy I know it’s a 30-ame sample i know it’s not a lot of games to go off of this season but he was putting up 17 points a game shooting 40% from three now does he shoot 40% from three for you know playing 70 plus games this season i’m not entirely sure but um I just kind of want to you know tread carefully uh with these you know second option conversations but you know they start off the article talking about getting Cade another two option so they go on to say could they see Reeves as a missing piece of their offensive puzzle they have to at least consider it other than Cunningham they didn’t have anyone average even 16 points in their first round loss to the New York Knicks reeves who’s had a tendency to slow down in the postseason has averaged better than 16 points in all three of his career playoff trips reeves is a good enough shooter to share the floor with Cunningham and a clever enough creator to keep the offense moving without him the fact that Reeves is a plus shooter from distance should look especially appealing to Detroit since they have non-shooters in its young core assar Thompson Ron Holland and the Net Shriders among its free agents Malik Beasley and Tim Hardway Jr only the Lakers know whether Duran qualifies as that impacting big thereafter but they did give him a look before the deadline uh with his bounce and underrated vision he could be a dream pick and roll partner with LA’s creators fontacio struggled this past season but he’s a dead eyee shooter in the 2023 24 season 134 threes at a 40% clip okay so there’s a lot to kind of dissect into this portion of the article so um you know they pointed the question could the Pistons see Austin Reeves as a missing piece to their offensive puzzle and mentioned that not one Piston averaged 16 points a game in the first round playoff series against the New York Knicks so there are three takeaways I have from reading this short article from Bleacher Report the first takeaway is the Jaylen Duran conversation from a Lakers perspective the second takeaway is the Austin Reeve conversation and do the Pistons covet a player like Austin Reeves and do they feel he could be a consistent number two option next to Kate Cunningham and the third takeaway is the process of this trade the trade itself trading away a Jaylen Duran a Simmonium Fantio and the draft pick for Austin Reeves is that fair value for the Detroit Pistons okay so let’s get into these three takeaways let’s start with the Jaylen Duran conversation no secret that the Lakers were trying to get a rim running big they tried to trade for Mark Williams failed his physical they called about Jaylen Duran but there was no real um report of what the Lakers like offered the Pistons i’d assume it was a very short conversation um with Trajan Langden in the the Pistons front office but that is something to keep an eye on that the Lakers are looking for a rim running big now I think if you look at the roster after they did trade for Luca Donic Jaylen Duran is a type of center I believe that they would love to pair with Luca and LeBron um just imagine the loss that Jaylen Duran would be able to you know catch from both of those guys uh I I feel like there’d be so much space for Jaylen Dur to operate because you have uh two ball handlers and Luca and LeBron uh just having so much of the defense’s attention where they wouldn’t really be focused on Jaylen Durren as much i think just from a Lakers perspective I could see why you’re looking at like rim running bigs like a like a Mark Williams uh like a Jaylen Duran uh because they make a lot of sense and they’re on rookie contracts and you you want to kind of you know get a deal uh for these guys uh the only problem with the Duran conversation is he’s extension eligible and he’s probably looking to get paid so don’t really know like what the Lakers would value with Jaylen Duran you know when those negotiations do come up for a new contract so that’s that’s the first takeaway like obviously the Lakers um probably still have interest in a Jaylen Duran okay uh the second takeaway was the secondary option conversation i feel like we’ve had this conversation in YouTube videos on the podcast at Nauseium um and I think my stance has stayed pretty consistent with you guys as of right now as the roster is constructed as the roster is constructed I want to repeat that June 20th before the draft before free agency because who knows man crazy things happen every summer in the NBA jade N Ivy is the number two option as this roster is constructed right now things could change i’m just saying that things can change in a blink of an eye but right now Jaden Ivy is a number two option now he was not available for that first round playoff series as Bleacher Report pointed out that you know the Pistons didn’t have a player average over 16 points a game in the playoffs against the Knicks now the Pistons had Dennis Schroeder play that Jaden Ivy role and he had really big games like really big games in the playoffs for the Pistons i would say he was one of their better you know playoff risers in terms of just the veterans uh that stepped up like Dennis Schroeder was just hitting three after three it was like look at it uh World Cup FIA team Germany Dennis Schroeder he he looked amazing out there uh Tobias Harris had his moments uh Tim Hardaway Jr uh got hot but then he would got like back to his inconsistent ways and you know Malik Beasley as well so the Pistons didn’t have a true you know quote unquote consistent number two option to you know pair next to Kate Cunningham in the playoffs that is uh a fair statement by Bleacher Report and is a good question you know do do they uh look at that and say “Look well maybe an Austin Reeves would make sense for us.” Okay now the final point I want to talk about is the process of this trade looking at this trade as a Piston fan let’s go over it so you’re losing your starting center you’re losing a rotational piece in Simone Pontakio and you’re losing your only draft pick in this year’s draft in 2025 so as a Piston fan if I were to make this trade I would have questions and and the the questions I would have are who’s going to be the new starting center who are you targeting to be that new starting center and two what happens with Jade Ivy long term do you still view Jade Ivy as a starting to guard next to Kate Cunningham do you view Jade Ivy more as a six-man off the bench those would be the questions I would have with a trade like this and to me I think I would rather just kind of roll with Jaden Ivy and Jaylen Duran you know Tech’s got one more year on his deal maybe he can kind of bounce back and have a better season um and who knows what the Pistons could get um with their draft pick this year could they trade up and you know get a guy that they feel uh could really help them i’m really hoping that they do trade up in the first round and maybe target a guy like uh Rashir Fleming uh maybe a Ryan Kulk Brener maybe a Maxine Renault like who knows like I I think there’s a lot of guys um in the later rounds especially like around 20 to like you know 28 um that could really help the Pistons in their front court areas especially at the you know the the power forward position and you know maybe you you carry a third string center to kind of you know learn and grow under um as you have Isaiah Stewart and Jaylen Duran as your main centers um that’s just me though you guys i I I just kind of look at this trade and I I think this would be a trade where it’s kind of a panic move because you you you would feel that you know you don’t really think Jade Ivy could be the same player uh after suffering that injury i I happen to think he he’ll he’ll be fine i I think he could definitely get back to you know playing the what the way he was playing um last season maybe even you know improve you know improve more as a defender improve more um as uh you know a three-point shooter like like if if he comes out and you know he’s shooting you know anywhere from like 37 to 40% from three again and you know they’re playing more uh consistently him and Kate I should say you know putting at least 65 70 games together without any injuries or you know lineup up you know substitutions which I don’t think JB would do um I think I would rather roll with Jaden Ivy as a two guard next to Kate Cunningham in that number two option that’s just me though i know there are some people in the fan base that want to accelerate this uh they don’t want to be left behind because Orlando made a move in the East and they want to kind of keep up in terms of you know adding talent for talent um and not being left behind in the Eastern Conference playoff picture i still think the Pistons um even before we have free agency and even before we have the draft I think just the core that they have they’re still going to be in the playoff picture next year um for a trade like this just the process of the trade I think this favors more of the Los Angeles Lakers than it would actually favor the Detroit Pistons uh because you’re getting a you know a a lob threat a rim running center um for the Lakers for Luca and LeBron who’s going to be I think 22 maybe by by the time the season gets underway uh you’re getting a rotational piece in Simony Fontio that can come off your bench and shoot and you’re getting a a second round pick i think for the Pistons this is just kind of overvaluing maybe a Austin Reeves but let me know in the comment section what you guys think of this proposed trade by Bleacher Report would you make this trade or would you just kind of hold on to the court that you have and let these guys kind of grow for another season and see if they develop and take the steps that we think they can possibly make and you know keep growing and developing together let me know talk to you guys down below in the comments section like always hope you guys are staying safe take care i’ll see you guys in the next video peace [Music] ooh uh-huh [Music]

Today I reacted to a mock trade proposed by Bleacher Report sending Austin Reaves to the Detroit Pistons. I gave my opinions on both sides why I believe the trade favors the Lakers more than the Pistons.

  1. Why in God's name would I trade away Duren for a SF when I already have Thompson and Hollen on rookie contracts still? Why????????? Makes no sense at all!!!!

  2. So on a team with only 1 true big, we trade that big for a position that we’re already good in. Not to mention reeves asked Detroit not to draft him.
Why d all of these mock trades seem to benefit other teams over us?
Trade rumor season is so stupid

  3. Oh hell naw!!! This dude didn’t even want to come to Detroit when he went through the draft undrafted and I’m not giving up Duren for him, we can get shooting from other players while still keeping Duren so this is a hard HELL NO💯…and if we stay at 37 we need to go after Johni Broom out of Auburn he’s a guy who could contribute right away

  4. They need to stop 😂 not Austin “ I’m not going to Detroit “ Reeves 😂, these analysts are rage baiting at this point 😂 one of them today , had suggested that we grab Mayson plumlee for about 4 million and he’s 35. I can get Dwight Howard and boogie cousins for 4 million, and would get a good 12 minutes a piece from both

  5. The trend continues, another trade that the Pistons would lose, so why would we do any of them? Are they all click bait or do people actually think the Pistons would do these ridiculous trades?

  6. Heeeeeelllllllll NO. That’s the punk who told Detroit to not draft him or he’d play overseas. He wanted to play with LeBron so bad, let that punk stay with him.
