just about set to go now and starting this one Kyle Hendris but Chris he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound well I’ll say this every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans in front of the city and you know this guy no different he wants to be more effective here so you know you look at the numbers they haven’t been great at home i’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one here’s the second base Jeremy Pñena fast ball for a strike and we’re off and running from Anaheim [Applause] that one blasted deep to right zolair ranging back on it way back out of here what a start to this one home run number 10 on the year the Astros strike first it’s one- nothing boo his plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later you can’t argue with those results well you got to love a game that brings some action from the jump and at the plate he was looking for a pitch to absolutely drive and you know leadoff hitters aren’t up there anymore just working the count trying to get on they’re looking to make some noise and do some damage isach Paradis stands in now and watches strike one the change up missing ball one with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters that pitch in for a strike one and two bows it back with two strikes that wasn’t an easy pitch to hit it’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was and that one missing low 22 on the ground right side over to first one away that ground ball may have him back on track after the homer now we check out the Astros lineup singi this lineup has the benefit of playing behind a great pitching staff they’ve got a really low ERA yeah and you know with that said there’s not as much pressure on the offense but make no mistake about it players want to hit the ball hard and they want to score runs they want to jog around the bases hitting the ball over the fence so regardless of how dominant the staff can be the attitude is we want to go out there and have some fun with the bat so we’ll see one big inning in this one you know could be all they need but you’d like to have multiple big innings jose Altuve at the plate now that’s ball one and it’s fouled away heart of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they’re definitely looking to do some more damage inside almost got him straighten him up a little bit one down base is empty and that is downstairs three and one slice down the right side one out base is empty knocks that one away and we’ll do it again the other way fair ball makes the turn and heads for second the throw in and he’ll make it safely that’s a double love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there he really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing foul one thing that was great about the approach his head was down all the way through the pitch and that’s how you do it at the plate is the Astros catcher Yiner Diaz that one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one altuve over at second one down line drive he makes the catch and there’s Tina that swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well i know it didn’t produce a hit but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate and now it’s Christian Walker one of the rare guys at first base that you almost think defense first he is that good with the glove you’re talking about top of the list elite defensive first baseman here’s a rocket out to left wakes the play and that’s the third out astros off and running on the solo homer it’s now a one- nothing ball game you’re watching Major League Baseball on the show back in Anaheim today’s starting pitcher Jason Alexander what should we keep an eye on here yeah he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip but he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners put his team in a position to win a ball game so we know he’s prepared we know this guy’s a competitor and we’ll watch how he works in this one zack Nitto leading things off and takes a strike first baseman are involved in just about every single play so when you have somebody so solid over there uh you can breathe a little easier and that’s way high one and one the other thing about an elite defensive first baseman like him it it just instills a ton of confidence in those guys playing third and short that have to make those long tough throws at times and he just handles them so well so he really makes the entire infield better with his glove now the number two hitter Nolan Showell inside just missed you’re not just talking about the ability to pick Chris one of the things about him the range is impressive as he’s able to go to his right and get to those balls in the hole foul ball there remember Mark Katse was a real good defensive outfielder good instincts not great speed and that drops in for a strike yeah and I figured you would get Kat into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night that is true next pitch is downstairs on the ground right side four six three and they turn the double play oh man what a smooth double play that was a thing of beauty from start to finish [Music] here’s Mike Trout in there and it’s on one two out base is empty got him and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three angels held in check still behind by a count of one to nothing new inning getting started and stepping in for the Astros Jake Meyers hris back to work hris a 63 righty more than 100 career wins on the mound he joined the team as a free agent out towards right center field and that will fall had a good start to the inning pitch was in and off the plate so hard to do anything with a pitch in that location but somehow he got the barrel to it and hit it well pretty amazing and now they’ve got some speed on first so we’ll see if they try to get him into motion and the batter now Cam Smith runner there goes the runner and that’s fouled off [Music] [Applause] and now the one swing at a highf fly ball well struck adele going back gone that’s his third home run of the series and they boost their lead it’s 3 nothing already playing with the lead and now they’re celebrating a home run they’re having a great time out there well not every home run is a majestic blast off the bat and even though he hit it pretty well it was anything but a sure thing to get out but today the conditions were right he got just enough of it and I think the backspin really helped that thing carry here’s Mauricio Dubon lined and that’s a base hit well clearly he was ready to hit right there just a cookie down the middle i mean those are the ones you dream about the ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it so a man aboard Cooper Hmel up next for the Astros that’s to third to second pulls him off the bag now that second base Jeremy so the lineup flips over now it’s the second baseman Jeremy Pñena he’s already homered here in this one check swing on the first pitch appeal down to first and yes he offered at it two on nobody out with two runs already in here in the top of the second owen Chu now battling here as he fouls it away and that’s inside ball missed with a change up two and two that one missed and they’re all loaded up take your base man that’s a tough one to take on the full count but I guess he saw it really well it’s a really nice plate appearance so they’re all loaded up isach Paradis the next to hit grounded out his first time off this is again five in a row the opportunity for a huge inning exists right here bases loaded nobody out but as a hitter can’t be over anxious that pitcher is up against the wall make him come to you the pitch and that one just missed off the outside edge pressure’s on right here two count base is loaded you don’t want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in or on he’s got to challenge the hitter right here hendrickx delivers and that misses as well meanwhile activity in the bullpen sam Bachmann appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves this would be his major league debut [Music] pumps in a strike and now three and one the count slides but it gets by it one runs in here’s the throw safe at the plate and the run scores all the way from second it’s 5 nothing well when you fall behind in the count you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make the move to the pen kyle Hendris gives way and this is one he’d like to forget back with a new arm after this sam Bachmann comes on now and with the big deficit on the scoreboard he almost has to just put that out of his mind every outing matters for relievers in their numbers but I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game first and second no outs here’s the former MVP Jose Altuve that one finds the zone strike one [Applause] [Music] swing at a high-fly ball that’s out to center hauls it in for the out now batt and here’s the catcher Yiner Diaz he’s 0 for one in there at the knees well in this situation with runners on you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat nice job right there Diaz jackson swing now it appeal to first he did not go around and that’s outside tough spot right here a couple runners on two ball count you can’t nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it’s going to bring in some runs that one fouled off two and two and there’s a ball got a full count one out runners at first and second he swings and drives one out to deep left field that one’s back and it’s out of here into the home bullpen for a homer a three-run homer it’s their second home run of the inning it’s 8 nothing boo i wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here but it had just enough behind it for the homer what an attempt at the wall though he really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back base is empty one away christian Walker up next for the Astros and that one finds its way through so a man aboard now with one away now batting the center Jake and now here’s a speed threat outfielder Jake Meyers one for one with a single so far and that is out of play that’s a ball in the dirt blocked tag save at second and good hustle to move up that’s a wild pitch you know sometimes it takes a reliever a little time to get comfortable with the mound out there especially when they come in trying to be nasty with every pitch they throw not exactly what they were looking for when they called him in though we’ll see if he can settle down and it’s second line drive caught race to the bag but he’s safe good job to avoid the double play it’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove but you will get some high fives you know when you make great contact you feel like you’ve done everything right but in this game of baseball not everything is in your control smith stands in here leaves that one off the inside boo he never moved cuz he never had time to but that kind of velocity you’d prefer that pitcher work away man on second two down chopped out in front of the plate gets it to first out number three but two round tripers in this inning the long ball was working it’s now an eight nothing game it’s Major League Baseball on the show we head to the bottom of the second here’s the left fielder Taylor Ward oh that got away from him and he’s going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning bad at first jorge Solair the next to hit for the Angels one home run shy of 200 for his career that’s in there that’s strike one 0 and one just outside ball freddy Ferguson doing the umpiring duties behind the plate in this one yeah Freddy is a wellrespected umpire Boo maybe a little bit more of a pitcher umpire he does like to pitch down just below the knees or right about there but most hitters are pretty good at covering that spot these days yeah i mean he’s a guy that has a reputation for being fergalicious yes and you know whatever fergalicious at the plate Logan Ohappy he has as they like to say let me guess boo light tower power that’s right and first offering is fouled off ward stands at first with one out swing and a miss and that’s strike two 0 and two on the ground a second might be two offbalance feed there’s one to first not in time great effort there luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike balls one strike that’s in there perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the wall he’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly two outs just misses with that one really good take especially with two strikes that one just misses it’s two and two two balls two strikes and it’s fouled off they’ll do it again two-2 now on the ground to third paradis fires over to first that ends the frame no runs no base hits no errors and one left on base we head on now to the top of the third it’s the Astros eight and the Angels nothing and welcome back to the ballpark top half of the third inning now it’s the shorts stop mauricio Dubon and the first pitch misses for ball one that one down the line and that’s just foul swaying and a miss and the count one and two clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can’t fault him for his commitment now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes switch through that one it’s a strike out came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front many times if you do it’s a foul ball and you know a lot of pitchers they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter and when they’ve got him up against the ropes got to figure out a way to put them away did a nice job right there hmel in the box here lets that one go for a ball next offering is in for a strike back door with a breaking ball just got the corner there’s nothing you can really do with that he swings and fouls one off hit on the ground to the right side shanowell tosses to the pitcher covering the bag first two batters retired here in the top of the third jeremy so the Houston lineup turns over here’s the Astros leadoff man jeremy Pñena he’s already homered in this game way inside that’s a ball well usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 200 he’s put himself in a really good spot that one’s spoiled and the count now two and one i wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated he just having a hard time catching up swing and a miss and that is strike two he has a tendency to chase out of the zone and that slider that’s down that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss and that’s ball four tried another slider but it missed the plate one of the things about that two-out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it paradis in the box again takes the strike well if he’s going to steal second you want him to go early in the count that way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch come on let’s go runner runner runner on the goal swinging around foul first base side cuts and misses it’s a strikeout so the Astros leave one as the lead holds at 8 to nothing set for the bottom of the third here’s the center fielder Joe Adele joe Adel this ball’s chopped on the ground got him on the offbalance throw leadoff man retired here in the third christian Christian Moore will hit next and that is in for a strike 0 one they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away outside ball and that’s in for a strike off the plate and now it’s three and two [Music] ground ball left side and foul ball fouled off again and it remains three and two one down base is empty swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field meyers squeezes it and there’s two away up next the Angels back to the top of the Angels lineup zack Neto the next to hit for the Angels one for one he let off the bottom of the first with a single bats in there it’s 0 and one this guy is just filling up the strike zone right now don’t want to get yourself in an 02 hole you better be ready to pull the trigger on the first pitch line to second snagged on the bounce on to first that’s the inning and the Angels are gone in order still 8 nothing as we go to the top of the fourth jose Altuve up to hit here and that’s downstairs ball one lined and that’s a base hit so a runner aboard to start the inning now battle Diaz yer Diaz up next for the Astros this to center field and it falls and out to a board hitting is really easy for some guys there’s one thing that I can see already his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time and guys like that they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane and even when you don’t get it great it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder walker up to the plate for the third time as he looks at one down low now a fly ball to right center solair brings it in runner tags at second he makes it to third good base running to move up with only one out jake Myers so next up for Houston Jake Meyers one for two that one’s in there 0 and one and a slider in there for a strike well in this situation with a runner on first less than two outs some say “Hey get the ground ball double play with two strikes.” Some people say get the strike out i think you just execute your pitch make the best pitch you possibly can and let the result be whatever it’s going to be outside low and the count one and two altuve on third diaz over at first with one away fights that one away still one and two slider misses outside this guy’s a fun guy to watch taking at bat he just battles up there he doesn’t take a pitch off at all makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there you could tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away brothers at the corners one away top half of inning number four fights it off he’ll see another still two and two after the foul ball [Music] [Applause] let’s go and he couldn’t hold back he’s run up on strikes and next to hit for Houston Cam Smith we just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap he’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots right through there for a strike [Applause] and that’s in for a strike and the count is 0 and two runners on first and third two away rocketed out towards right center and this one looks like trouble one run is in diaz around third he’ll score two runs are in mauricio and in scoring position with two away and now Mauricio Dub and the first pitch misses for ball one blind drive that’s a base hit into right field coming home the throw in it’s offline the run comes in and they extend their lead now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan sam Bachmann out of the game we’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound jack Kachanowitz taking over on the mound and he’s had three days off since he pitched last so expect him to be totally rested i’m sure he’s itching for this opportunity right now now the left fielder comes through with the RBI loud contact leads to the double i mean you could tell it had extra bases written all over it as it jumped off of his stick so the batting order turns over here’s the second to be aggressive go ahead and pitch to contact let the defense work behind you you’ve got a nice comfortable lead don’t try to be too fine and that one wrapped foul and takes low for ball one good eye right there he’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here i love it cut on and miss struck him out that K is his third of the game he had him out in front which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one here’s Trout struck out looking in his first at bat rip towards third whips it across already two gone here in the home fourth leftielder Taylor Ward two down base is empty and next will be the cleanup hitter Taylor Ward all right Angel and a strike in there he’s gotten into a really good rhythm sat down seven in a row he just wants to get the baseball and deliver it as quickly as possible keep the momentum going that misses now one and two and a breaking ball misses outside two down bottom five jorge Solair come on and that’s the inside edge and that’s ball one you know these Angels to put it bluntly need to put together more competitive at bats and I don’t think they’ve lived up to their own expectations at the plate they really haven’t worked many deep counts or long at bats and that’s fine if you’re having a lot of success but at this point I think it’s time to make an adjustment highfly ball out into left center field puts it away for the out one down that’s just a really nice catch on the run right there he saved extra bases for sure the pitcher’s his friend he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch [Music] that one fouled off the Astros up big in this one last half of inning number five outside and a count even one and one and that’s in the third one next pitch a slider that misses outside here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense 3-1 count be ready to turn on a fast ball inside quarter and that’s called a strike just a really nice slider down and in there he wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement foul ball left side he’ll see another foul we’ll see another payoff pitch good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat now one out to right smith sizing this one up calls it in and there’s two away now batting third base two down base is empty and next for LA Luis Rangifo first time up he grounded to third in there for strike one [Music] next offering misses down and away one ball one strike that one missed late swing foul to the left 2-2 now there’s a swing and a drive that’s got a chance and it’s a one hopper off the wall should be extra bases and that’s a two out double so two down here’s Joe Adell grounded out his first time up that one misses and that is ball one two outs and one in scoring position a swing and a miss and that’s strike one activity in the Houston bullpen ryan Gusto the rookie right-hander is getting loose ball to strike the pitch and there’s a foul ball foul ball still a one and two count man on second two down outside with a breaking ball you got this rangifo at second with two down spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another gets a piece and stays alive five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headto head you can see the crowd they’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet fouls it back with two strikes quite the matchup we’re seeing here six foul balls in this at bat alone really making them work out there got him looking and he didn’t like the call angels strand one hasn’t been their day it’s 12 nothing back in Anaheim and here’s the first baseman Christian Walker misses outside one and0 action in the Angels bullpen brock Burke getting loose out there brogden getting loose as well swaying a miss and one and one well you got to find a way to catch up to that pitch perhaps shorten the swing eliminate the stride that one came in hot but right down the middle you’re saying to yourself “How did I miss that pitch?” Got to make a quick adjustment [Music] swanging a popup needto nabs it one away now back center Jake Myers jake Meyers now at the plate one for three that one finds the zone 0 and one that one the other way moore the throw to first two quick outs to open the top of the six now back number 11 two outs space is empty and now the right fielder Cam Smith you can do it inside quarter for a strike and it’s 0 and one probably the best one we have seen throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate out to short and the Astros put down in order astros are down quietly but they lead it by a count of 12 to nothing astros go to the pen and here comes Ryan Gusto should be a good first match up for him here he’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season they’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up now it’s the second baseman Christian Moore fly to center his first time christian Moore had a foul ball knee high that’s in for a strike the Astros have some action in their pen from Valdez appears to be getting loose brown warming up as well swings through it for the K chase the fastball up the ladder for strike three gosh here it is hit it three pitch strike out all fast balls man he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now Neto up for the third time here watches that one miss the Angels with a lot of ground to make up here in the bottom of the sixth the shorts stop takes a ball this one in the air center fielders pulls that one down two down now batting first base two down base is empty and now the first baseman Nolan Showell and first pitch fast ball is in for a strike late on that fast ball he finds himself in a tough situation early just got to try to simplify it take a knock the other way if you can and now one and two one and two that’s down and in two two still two and two after the foul ball and that’s outside he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he’s walked up the middle dubong on the run sends it over to first what a play inning over nothing across here this half we’re through six full it’s the Astros 12 and the Angels nothing all set for the start of the inning and stepping in for the Astros Mauricio Dubon right through there for a strike that one to first and it goes just foul [Music] [Applause] nice grab throw to first it’s there and that’s a great play left fielder Cooper Hmel digging in is the switch inning outfielder Cooper Hmel he’s been a great free agent sign and a foul ball base is empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven and he grounds one to the right side he’ll do it himself and two away to start the seven up next for the Astros second base Jeremy Pñena and now it’s going to be Jeremy Pñena and he swings and misses at the initial offering he can live up in the zone all game if hitters will chase it that’s just too much velocity hitters got to look down in the zone that one ripped it has the distance gone another homer he’s done it again his second homer of the game and they tack on to their lead it’s 13 nothing two pitches two swings that one for a home run looking to be aggressive all the way and it paid off for him in a big way oh Boo clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now i mean that ball was so close to going foul would have been a long strike but instead batter gets rewarded did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence and now here is Paradis [Music] next pitch is outside swings and hits one in the air out towards right field and it drops in and that keeps the inning going now that the designated hitter Jose Altuve now here’s the Astros designated hitter Jose Altuve there’s the strike 0 and one breaking ball misses down and away paradis leads off first with two down to the inning popped foul out of play off to the right one and two now altuveet waits in the dirt two two on the way knocks that one away and we’ll do it again on the ground to third and that’s a fair ball can’t glove it cleanly ruer puts on the brakes at second so it’s first and second with two out that’s now three hits in a row for the offense turned on it nicely definitely a little out in front of the pitch but he didn’t hook around it too much and was able to keep it fair down the line now it’s going to be Yiner Diaz and that one is inside ball one well he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit and another ball when the skipper calls down to the bullpen he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs so far not getting what he was hoping for two on two outs foul ball line to left ward makes the catch and that is that astros not a run on the solo homer seventh inning stretch time you’re dialed into the show and welcome back to the ballpark bottom the Angels 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout and that one fouled off looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball got to think to yourself you want to stay up the middle that way if you’re a little bit early you hit it out of the ballpark opposite field knock lifted to left and that should do it he pulls it down ball game and the Astros use two pitchers to combine for the shut out the ball for his first career save deserves to be on display at his house i mean it’s kind of like when a restaurant frames its first dollar bill somewhere in a wall you just can’t forget your first save hold it on
