well good evening good people mark Holmes here and as always I want to say thank you all for watching commenting subscribing and being part of the Joe Boo Sports Report without you guys as well as you ladies you know that this literally does not work hope everybody’s having a great day it’s been uh interesting and it is quiet it is so quiet you can hear a star drop tink you know just right on the ground it is too quiet um but that’s to be expected we are sitting here 76 days 36 minutes and 44 seconds away from kickoff against the Philadelphia Eagles i can’t wait till we get there we’re 31 days away from the start of training camp which we’ll finally have some stuff to talk about on the field as opposed to all of these incredible lists and stories about Dak Prescott and how much he’s a failure yeah okay in the meantime the question is will the Cowboys strike gold now the Cowboys have signed a lot of guys to prove it deals we’re expecting a lot from guys who let’s face it have been kind of disappointments to where they were drafted and we’re relying on those guys to be able to put it together for us to be successful now one of the things the Cowboys typically do and have had quite a lot of success in comparison to other teams is USFL guys they’ve been able to sign some guys that have made some really big differences for our team um you think about Kavon Turpin you know one of the best special teams guys in the NFL that speed that he has is unbelievable and you think man Brandon Alry who thinks he can hit from 72 yards and I believe that he could i think that I we might just actually see the Cowboys line up and try and do that and so the question is have the Cowboys struck gold with Perion Winfrey can he be one of those guys that will be a producer for them from the USFL winfrey who was drafted originally by the Cleveland Browns uh played for them for two years he was a run-stoppping defensive tackle um had some off the- field issues and hasn’t played in the NFL since 23 been playing in the USFL and in the USFL for the B uh Birmingham Stallions now keep in mind he didn’t start the season on the team he came in midway through he was named to the 25 all USFL team recording 25 tackles one sack a force fumble for the Birmingham Stallions um so the question is what do you think about that is this a guy that’s going to translate to the NFL well here’s what you can definitely say is he’s hungry he is very hungry here’s a little piece right here this is Brandon Lure um this is of course going around Twitter right now uh newly signed Cowboys tackle Daren Perion Winfrey already hitting the ground working at the star he said “As soon as I got the code I was into it.” Laugh out loud he has a chance to compete at defensive tackle in training camp now you know looking at him he is 290 pounds he’s a little light um there and you look at him you say there’s not a lot of meat there but that probably means that he can move real well and so he’s getting into shape he’s excited about being here and hopefully he’ll be able to compete for a spot um the one thing that you should be excited about for this season is the fact that we do have so many guys that are in prove it ears this is or get off the toilet time that you know it’s going to be a dog fight at training camp for guys to get starting positions there’s very few positions where you look at and say “Oh that’s locked down.” that you I mean we know CD and uh George Pickkins we know those two spots are locked up okay I don’t think anybody’s taking those two spots right there okay but then when you get behind him you know between Jonathan Mingo who again he’s on a prove it season um after coming the you know being traded for with the fourth round pick last year in the middle of the season um he’s fighting too to try and have relevance on this roster jaylen Tolbert who was the de facto number two wide receiver for most of the season last year probably does not want to drop from being number two to the fourth option he’s going to be fighting hard to try and you know stake his claim and then you got Kavon Turpin who with his speed they’re talking about using him so those guys are all going to be fighting for playing time and so you’re going to see the best of these guys in um camp now the one spot that I think that I wish that there were more competition was for the left tackle that they put somebody there to put pressure on Tyler Gayton but pretty much it seems like he’s locked down but when you start thinking about the edge rushing you know you’ve got so many guys that you look at Jonath uh you look at um Sam Williams coming back from injury the speed that he has and a bit of a disappointment being a second round pick for the Cowboys um who is definitely a guy who is a prove it spot right now he needs to show something to be able to um you know stay on the roster and get that next contract you got Donovan Easy who again another one of those picks that you look at and say this guy’s fast can bend the edge you’ve got um of course uh Dante Fowler you know the veteran who had 10 and a half sacks last year and you got Marshon Neland who was drafted and thought to be the next uh Demarcus Lawrence so you’ve got all of those guys right there fighting to get their playing time and oh don’t forget there’s Micah Parsons that is if we don’t trade him because you know those rumors have started now that the Cowboys can move on from Micah Parsons and um yeah so you look at that and say “Yeah we’ve got a lot going on now we’ve got you know and the same thing in the secondary you know we hope that Diggs comes back and you know sooner than later and that he’s healthy and gets back to where he was about two years ago and then you have Savon Rell who again is another guy who was highly touted unfortunately coming back from an ACL himself as a rookie you know trying to get into there but you’ve got Elim a first round drafted quarterback who gets his opportunity to stake a claim and if he can get out there and you know play really well for us to start with he can make things really interesting for Diggs getting back and maybe take Diggs spot going in the future because Diggs is kind of he’s kind of in a funky spot right now with the Cowboys because of his rehab and the last two seasons the Cowboys paid him the $97 million contract and haven’t gotten much out of him since he signed that contract and it’s kind of fallen out of favor because of him not working out with the organization and them feeling like he hadn’t put in everything that he needed to get back out on the field so we have all of these storylines and of course there’s Joe Milton who could be here to take Dak Prescott’s spot because if you listen to Cam Newton the Cowboys are ready to move on from Dak Prescott you know and unlike other situations where um Brett Favre lost his spot to Aaron Rogers and so on and Aaron Rogers lost his spot to Jordan Love unless Joe Milton shows that he’s ready to step up and be the franchise quarterback and um unless the salary cap jumps up by a whole bunch of money you got Dak Prescott for at least two more seasons so those are the kind of storylines and uh some of the battles we’re going to be seeing here in uh camp and I can’t wait so Perion Winfrey hey bro I hope you are the latest USFL guy that makes
