[Music] this is the Royals Post Cast your instant game reaction for the Kansas City Royals part of the Locked On Podcast Network your team every day welcome in to the Royals postcast part of the Locked On Network your team every day i’m your host Chance Lebo back in the saddle after Jack was so kind to fill in for me yesterday while I had to tend to other matters with my full-time job but we’re back tonight as it is uh we’re going to get in here we’re going to get in here we’re going to get out of here because uh I’ve been up since 5:30 a.m today and uh I’m pretty tired i’m ready to go to bed and I know that some of you are too uh judging by the viewership right now um I expect this to be one of our uh I expect this to be one of our shorter shows because a lot of people are probably already in bed but they’ll want to see this in the morning and you can always do that in the morning after the fact at night after the shows end you can do that on your podcasts uh wherever you get them on demand Spotify Apple Music uh Amazon podcasts all that jazz that’s where you can find us after the fact but before we get started remember to subscribe to the channel turn on notifications so that you get an alert whenever we go live thanks for joining the show feel free to join the live chat because we have had it popping off tonight uh people getting in here a little bit early we’ve got Brent McKenzie in here we’ve got Jason in here we’ve got Royals fan from Nebraska in here so thank you guys for jumping in it was uh it was a tight one there at the end i I felt myself at very at multiple times feeling like the Royals might lose this one that this one might get uh get sideways but they were able to fight and claw their way to a win they added some insurance late and they pick up a six to four or sorry six to five win against the Padres’s after of course we saw Fernando Tatis Jr or sorry long night long day manny Machado hit a homer in the ninth to make it six to five off Carlos Estz who is now the Major League Baseball leader in saves this season why not so before we dive too deep into it here is what you’ll be talking about this is what you’ll be talking about i think the six outs from the bottom of the seventh when Lucas Ersig was on the mound to the top of the eighth was some of the most crucial uh baseball that we’ve seen from the Royals here recently car Lucas Ersig did not have his best stuff tonight um Slider was not a pitch that he could get in the zone with consistency fast was missing middle they’re fouling off his change up it’s going to happen on occasion so didn’t get the best night from Lucas Ersk i understand that that’s perfectly okay perfectly fine but with the situation the Royals were in Carlos Estz was able to pitch for a third straight day pick up a third straight save steven Cruz was able to go again today it was kind of the Royals bullpen was getting really thin there at the end um Sam Long got recalled today from his rehab assignment so he was available but I don’t think they really trusted him in those late innings and the Padres’s have a lineup that really doesn’t have a whole lot of lefties in it especially lefties that you would probably want a a guy like Sam Long to face because he’s more of a lugie guy lefty one out guy um but yeah this is uh this is an impressive win for the Royals because like I said uh in game uh two of the Rangers Series the last time you guys heard from me Royals very easily could have just sat their hands and said “All right we’re uh we’re done we we we’re going down here early.” And obviously this one was late it wasn’t early but we’re going down we’ve been in this position before we’re just going to bow out and head to tomorrow’s game but the Royals didn’t do that they were able to get some runs there late they got a pair in the eighth that put them in front the middle of the order continues to do the heavy lifting and I think that’s what we’re going to be able to see uh pretty much all season from this team and similar to last season when I know that on the Apple TV broadcast which I’m not exactly a big fan of in general um they were talking about how the big three for the Royals Salvi Vinnie and Bobby uh did a lot of the heavy lifting last year now you got to throw Mikel Garcia into that category as well because he’s been exceptional already this season so the middle of the is going to do a lot of the heavy lifting it got the inning started uh it got the inning started it got things going you got Mike El Garcia uh with an excellent AB to put himself in in a position to score um and then Vinnie is able to put together a quality AB i mean this was this was kind of the Royals at their best because Vinnie put together a good sorry excuse me Vinnie put together a really good AB after Mike Kel did and then Salvi who to a certain extent this season has not really had great Bab luck and he’s able to get just enough of a ball but also not enough of a ball you know Salvi hit that ball if he hits that ball on the screws that drove in Mikel Garcia that ball’s probably caught and there’s one out with two on kind of like Bobby’s today uh earlier in the game but with Sal with Salvi’s hit that got the offense going and then it just continued from there freddy Fine had a really bad AB but then of course Drew Waters picks him up i think that’s the best we’ve seen from Drew that that’s been the best thing we’ve seen from Drew Waters in almost a month he’s been having a really rough go of it there’s a reason he wasn’t in the lineup tonight against a righty when he usually is um it was a pretty all-around impressive performance for the Royals you get to see a Bobby Wit Jr home run um you get to see Jonathan India continue to rake we’ll talk about him in our second segment but I think that this game what you’ll be talking about is the is the heavy hitters the middle of that order michael Garcia is going to be in Atlanta he is he has earned a spot in Atlanta i think that it is pretty certain right now that he’ll be an all-star um and he continues to be just what the doctor ordered in that three-hole it’s kind of been a rotation of sorts this season that entire lineup really has been a rotation at times but putting Mikel Garcia in that threehole putting him in that three hole has really helped him out because it is uh it’s getting the offense going and it’s also getting base cloggers off the bases in front of your base cloggers because Vinnie and Salvi are guys that probably aren’t going first to third on a single uh Mike El Garcia can and he can steal a bag he almost did today if Vinnie doesn’t walk he probably steals that bag pretty clean but I was very impressed by what we saw from the the offense um not a great not a great performance from Kags but I think that after the performance we had from him yesterday I think he deserves a little bit of a okay you can have a a one for four day it’s not going to hurt anybody but I was really happy with what I saw from the Royals offense today um doing just enough padres’s have a solid bullpen pretty average I would say average bullpen but they have some guys back there that can make things hurt jason Adams been really good this season um and Nick Paveta is a guy that when he’s on he’s he’s pretty solid he was missing some spots early and missed one to Jonathan India who is going to be the focal point of our our second segment but I we come away very pleased and very encouraged as to the continuation of this Royals offense finding its rhythm being able to play from behind and uh they continue to make teams uncomfortable on the bases uncomfortable at the plate and I think that’s what the Royals MO is going to be for the rest of the season they’re not going to out slug anybody although they did tonight um but that’s not going to be what they always do so uh I am happy with uh obviously this Royals win they’ve won four in a row they’re now back to 500 as the Royals are uh coming into today they were one and a half games out of the wild card spot um I I haven’t checked the standings yet i’ve been kind of taking care of some other business so I think this was about as good as you could have asked for the Royals on the mound Michael Lorenzan unspectacular but got the job done that’s going to be Michael Lorenzan’s your fivearter guys he’s He’s not going to be the ace five and a third five hits allowed two earned runs i mean you’re going to take that from a fivestar there’s 29 other teams that would take that from their five so I’m I’m okay with what I saw from Lorenzan today um second time through the order sometimes seems to be a challenge but Lorenzan was solid today all right we’re going to hit a break when we come back we’ll talk to you about what I saw from Jonathan India today that really caught my attention that’s coming up next on the Royals Post Cast are you looking for a snack that’s both delicious and bets make every moment more with FanDuel the official sports betting partner of the NBA all right let’s talk Jonathan India i have been on here as the resident Jonathan India defender i said it in the A’s series i said it after the Texas couple first couple of games this offense is different when Jonathan India is in the lineup and I know that the numbers aren’t eyepopping he’s not OPSing really anything above 650 I think right now I think is what he’s at let’s check right now let’s uh go check what he’s at after today 664 i mean that’s pretty unspectacular it’s hovering around league average but he’s a guy that puts together quality uh quality abs he’s he’s a professional hitter he’s done it and he is a nonout in the lineup right now the Royals on their bench they’ve got about you know they’ve got 13 bats on the roster i mean nine of them on any given day are then they’ve got about nine guys that are solid and you can’t play those nine every day but with Jonathan India in the lineup he continues to be a force um he’s starting to tap into that power maybe that shoulder injury he had against uh against the A’s helped him out maybe he rehabed that well or got in the weight room or something but Jonathan India seems to be kind of the straw that stirs the drink that the Royals wanted him to be royals brought in had a you know a clear they had a clear goal of getting a leadoff hitter for this lineup heading into 2025 this off season it was priority number one for JJ Piccolo in this staff and what do they do they went out and got Jonathan India who has been an exceptional leadoff guy throughout his career with the Reds it’s been a little bit of a struggle for him adjusting to left field adjusting to third base also adjusting to a much different ballpark if you compare the uh the dimensions of Kaufman and Great American Ballpark it’s very different and for Jonathan India a guy that you know tapped into a lot of power because he was at a really small ballpark was able to hit 20 home runs in a season in Cincinnati um he kind of probably had to change his approach to plate just a tad because he needed to become more of a line drive hitter than he was uh last season so I continue to be a Jonathan India defender i think he is one of the top five players on this team right now i I think that this team without Jonathan India if you don’t make that Brady Singer trade if you don’t trade Singer for Jonathan India this team is worse this team is not good uh not that I mean I’d say they’re probably five six games under 500 without Jonathan India and today he finally got things going i think this road trip’s been great for him i think that if he is hot this offense will get going and I think that it’s kind of a a push and pull i think it’s it’s kind of Jonathan India’s game he’s going to go hot he’s going to go cold but he’s going to put together damn good plate appearances every time he’s up there and I think that’s the one thing you can rely on with him he’s been solid defensively since moving back to second there was some hiccups a little bit in the first couple games back at second base that obviously everybody was upset about because everybody gets upset about everything nowadays but uh I think Jonathan India is a a an exceptional piece of this Royals team a piece that is invaluable one that I don’t think that you could just move on from because uh if he gets hurt this lineup and the outlook of this offense changes a ton i don’t think it changes that drastically but um I think that you’re if Jonathan India goes down for the season tomorrow I think the Royals immediately have to start looking for a leadoff bat because I don’t think Mike Garcia is a great leadoff bat he’s more suited for the three-hole the five hole the six hole so that’s my take on the situation jonathan India continues to crush uh today at the plate goes three for five a double and a homer his fourth of the season a three-run homer put the Royals in a great position to win a ball game and that’s really all that you can ask for i appreciate you guys all for tuning in i know it’s a late show uh tomorrow they’ve got a 6:15 first pitch so we will not be here that late tomorrow which I know I am uh I’m looking forward to but appreciate you guys for hopping in i appreciate you guys for commenting and uh always being excited to be in the live Way to go Boys , keep on rolling!!!
Q putting in Rave for Vinnie is the kind of fool hardy move we would all hate him for if it didnt pan out- but it did. Q makes a lot of moves like that. We rely on Q finessing with advanced stats and our top guys getting it done. And the failures of this season largely rest on the latter not coming through. But he never loses faith in them. That is a skill in itself. This lineup right now is the peak of what the Royals do in 25
