Karl-Anthony Town’s Kentucky coach (John Calipari): “When KAT was getting drafted in 2015, the Lakers wanted him at #2 overall. I said ‘You may wanna be the #2 pick and be in LA’. KAT said ’Nah, I will wear a coat. I wanna be the #1 pick’. And he enjoyed his time in Minnesota”

  1. Sucks the supermax exists, if KAT was making the regular max we would have been more than happy to keep him and build around him and Ant.

His career arc is also very interesting, going from a defensive prospect to probably the 2nd best offensive center in the NBA today and not a good defender. I felt like we really had something working with him at the 4.

  2. Even if we got KAT, Rob probably would’ve traded him with Mozgov’s contract to get rid of cap space. I hate Mitch man

  3. I like KAT but not sure how he would have meshed with Kobe in his final season in 2015/2016 even though the Lakers could have definitely used a talented big man over DLo.

Although everyone wants to be a Laker…between 2013-2017 the Lakers were pretty weak and won no more than 26 games. Even though the Timberwolves were much better they were a statistically better team than the Lakers in those early years after KAT got drafted.

I think not a bad deal KAT went to Minnesota and ended up now in New York which is closer to his hometown anyway.

  4. And we very much enjoyed having him. Maybe the success wasn’t there, but what a positive impact he had on the community.

  5. I have always found KAT to be frustrating. He has the talent to be a top 10 player. He is amazing in the post but refuses to operate there most of the time. Look at his March Madness run he had. Guy had a dominant back to the basket post game
