  2. He’s spot on. Breen was amazing for decades but is not bringing it to the same level and a huge reason is lack of chemistry with his cohosts

    More than the individual announcers is the complete fall off in the presentation and production. I don’t know left who behind the scenes but it’s just amateur hour. Adding the Finals trophy logo mid series was just comical.

  8. Cowherd is right here, but also this is just an ESPN problem as a whole. Truly their best annoucing crews are through college football.

  9. Not to mention the 30 second halftime show with 75 commercials. God forbid they throw it to the studio and have some commentary on the first half.

  10. Ok I don’t always agree with Colin but this one I agree with. That broadcast team just sounds awkward and Doris and RJ are always kind of negating what the other one said to try and prove that their own opinion is right. Its just a tough listen, were both JVG and Mark Jackson necessary to cut.

    Pretty sure the JVG cut was ordered by the advertising guru slenderman silver since JVG was always bringing up valid points about things that didn’t make sense within the league.

  16. I know people hate Doris (and I think she’s really gone too “ESPN” after being great at first), but to me Richard Jefferson is absolutely the worst. Doesn’t listen, no chemistry, the NBA vet really needs to have charisma and a comfortable rapport with the other commentators and he has none of that. He wants to shout dumb basic thoughts into the void, and can’t play off anyone else at all.

  17. I mean you have Doris who everyone knows is a terrible broadcaster put in during a finals series which she has business doing. And you give RJ the opportunity who just started broadcasting yesterday. Obviously this broadcasting was going be trash.

  21. The current broadcast genuinely makes me miss JVG and Mark Jackson. They weren’t perfect, but were miles ahead of Doris and RJ.

    Literally 0 chemistry or excitement with the current team, and it seems to be rubbing off on Mike Breen because he sounds unenthusiastic these days too.

  24. When listening to ESPN, you know the crew knows nothing about teams that aren’t the Lakers or players who aren’t LeBron. Like, I don’t need to know Siakam is from Cameroon or that someone has big hands every single game.

  26. The pregame/halftime/postgame show is the worst I’ve ever seen or heard. Really kills any chance at a good product.

    Sure Doris and RJ aren’t great but I feel like it’s magnified by hours of bad studio content before during and after the game

  30. The pregame and halftime shows are pathetic. RJ and Doris are pretty uninspired. So much that they’re literally depressing Mike breen. Get someone like Tim legler in for some actual analysis at half instead of Stephen A looking angry/perk gasping for air. Doris Burke literally has a script where she just glazes one or two players a night. RJ also brings absolutely nothing to the table. At least he used to be edgy and a smartass- now he sounds deflated and uninterested.

    That said, fuck Colin cowherd too

  31. Their on air chemistry in general has decreased- sports center with Neil and Stan, SVP and Russillo’s radio show, Stephen an and skip are annoying but at least had chemistry on air. Say whatever you want about Jemele hill but she worked with Michael smith really well. The ONLY show that remains is PTI. Every other pairing feels kind of forced, whether it is live broadcasts or studio shows

  32. I don’t like it either. I won’t watch it strictly because they suck.

    The espn shows all are ass and they just canceled PTI. So, Colin was wrong there, it affects viewership for a lot of ppl like me.

    Chemistry is one aspect, the lack of respect for the viewers is another. Apathy is another…

    Exec producers and hosts need to be replaced.

    The current hosts predictions are wrong 95% of the time.

    I know you can find fans that have more love and knowledge for the game, with a better prediction of the outcomes than these overpaid bobbleheads.

  35. A ton of comments about the broadcast team but my biggest gripe is the image quality. 720p is unacceptable for your premiere product in this day. NBA should absolutely demand a better image quality for their finals if not for all games.
